He's sold millions of albums, filled arenas, and hobnobbed with George Harrison, Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison, but Tom Petty's driving heartland rock has often been taken for granted by the same critics who hail John Mellencamp as a genius. Greatest Hits is an airtight argument for Petty's own greatness. Starting with "American Girl," the rollicking, Byrds-inspired single from Petty's first album in 1976, this compilation presents a chronological overview of the guitarist-vocalist's career with and without the Heartbreakers, also chronically underrated as one of today's best bands. Every one of the 16 older tracks is a well-crafted gem, full of solid guitar hooks ("Here Comes My Girl"), arresting images ("Don't Come Around Here No More") and simple but poetic lyrics ("The Waiting").
Petty isn't an innovator; he's a talented craftsman with impeccable taste and a strong sense of rock history, internalizing influences ranging from the Beatles' psychedelic masterpiece, Revolver, to the best of '70s punk. (It's interesting to remember that early efforts such as "Refugee" and "Don't Do Me Like That" first won Petty attention as a New Wave artist). With his Dylanesque vocals and chiming 12-string guitars, Petty is more often linked these days with the sounds of the '60s. But recent tunes such as "Learning to Fly" and "Into the Great Wide Open" are as smart, relevant and (dare I say) alternative as anything in MTV's Buzz Bin. --Jim DeRogatis
Customer Reviews:
One of America's best bands..........2007-07-13
Firstly, I suppose I am kicking myself for not being aware of the 2000 Anthology by this band...and that Anthology addresses some of the criticisms I have of this compilation.
One of my criticisms is that this compilation does NOT have Tom Petty's duet with girlfriend of the time, Stevie Nicks, of Fleetwood Mac fame ["Stop dragging my heart around"]. Just btb-I do remember hearing in a short radio series about New Zealand super-group Split Enz [whom I consider to be in the same league as Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers] that when the two groups toured together at one time, Tom Petty was a really big pain to them.
This is a band that continually gets lots of their songs played on commercial FM radio over here in Australia...songs like: Refugee; I won't back down; Runnin' down a dream; Free fallin', and Don't come around here no more.
For me, TP&THB is one of those good bands which don't quite have the large catalogue of good songs of the supergroups like The Beatles or AC/DC or Midnight Oil etc, but they have more good songs than you might give them credit for.
E.g. one of my fave songs of theirs is "Don't come around here no more". It features a Beatle-esque or George Harrison-ish Indian guitar or sitar opening. If you get the chance, you should have a look at the memorable video for this terrific song-it heavily references the book by Lewis Carrol "Alice in Wonderland". The video trickery is wonderful to watch.
I'll write down some of the notes I made for this compilation when I was listening to it [unfortunately I'll have to leave out out some notes which I made too obscure!]:
"Listen to her heart" reminded me of the guitar sound of, I think, Australia's The Ted Mulry Gang [David Hasselhoff murdered a terrific song of theirs called "Jump in in my car"...maybe this is the song that the TP&THB song reminds me of in some ways. Tom Petty also seems to have Elvis Costello style vocals in this song. [er, my notes are confusing here, I THINK that this is the song I was making the note on...not sure if my cd has slightly different track listings-it seems that my comment was for a song called "Anthing that's rock'n'roll"...and I don't see that on this similar looking cd.]
"Listen to her heart"-er [scratching head here]-the guitar intro to this song reminds me of the guitar work for the song "Needles and pins".
"I need to know"-here Petty has Bob Dylan-esque vocals. The same goes for "Refugee". Just by the by, I've never heard a bad song with "Refugee" in the title! Check out the Australian band Cold Chisel's song with this this word in the title. Petty's song has a distinctive keyboard sound to it.
"The waiting"-another good song I like from this band. It has a "Turn, turn, turn" style guitar intro.
"You got lucky"-the synthesiser introduction to this song reminded me of The Police's own synth sound for their song "Spirits in the material world". I reviewed The Police's new compilation today at this site.
"I won't back down"-this song has the feel of an E.L.O. song-and seeing as E.L.O's lead singer Jeff Lynne has production credits for this Petty compilation, it is perhaps Lynne's influence which comes out strongly on this song.
"Running down a dream"-another song that you will hear on Australian commercial FM radio. I made a note that this song features an AC/DC style menacing guitar sound.
"Free falling"-another one of my favourite TP songs. It has nice backing singing and some nice guitar work.
"Mary Jane's last dance"-features harmonica, a Neil Young sound to it and a guitar intro reminiscent, I think, of Young's song "Heart of gold".
Lastly, there is a decent cover of the 60's political song "Something in the air".
Overall, this is an album of accomplished pop/rock which is standing the test of time, judging by the fact that this artist is such an FM staple in Australia.
Tom is a cool dude!.......2007-06-27
Have the cd in our car so can listen to it often! Love it! Has all the good songs on it, any Tom Petty fan should have this one! My favourite cd rite now!
Pettyness Which Plays So Rough................2007-05-19
People. Your supercillous main man Seer is back. And don't be a wise acre and say I'm more cill-y then super. I can deal fine with the barbs. It's the jibes I have a hard time with. Then again, true reflection is an arduous task- not for the meek or faint of heart. And you may not read this review-especially if you have a pacemaker. If you think your Metamorpho has money to pay lawsuits - you are sourly mistaken. There are spirits of the dark (bill collectors) after me as we squawk. But, fortunately for you, I reserve the right to purchase more music for your benefit and live in virtual squalor. Who cares if I have to seek shelter in an abandoned high rise apartment building? You benefit- so stop that whining!
You all know by now how music works. It seeps into your mind. Then, at a later predestined time, you just have to revisit it. It gets into your blood, or synapses, or, into your need to escape and just have fun. And, music should be a pure joy for you as well as something to delve below the surface for. Sometimes we have to do some work too, but if we didn't, it wouldn't be as rich, or rewarding. This is what the whole thing is about. And I've found that I'm allegic to clown wigs. I'm sure the tabloids will have a field day with that.
This album is a testimony for the faithless, an alimony for the penny-less, a contrition for the heartless, and just plain shock treatment for the synapse-less. And, you heard all that first right here from your informative Metamorpho.
I listened to this loud and it shakes and kicks the fibers of your soul into some outer-metaphysical place beyond human comprehension. It is rock, for sure, but such a damn near perfect addicting form of it that it's hard to explain- or comprehend, for that matter. Most of the subject matter centers around relationships - which are nothing new in the rock arena. But, it's what Petty and his fine band of musicians have done with it. They've molded it into generous hooks and alluring melodies that extend beyond the reach of the beautiful and cutesy. This is rough and hard rockin', make no mistake. Petty has never sounded more impassioned than on most of these songs. Listen to his vocals on "The Waiting". Pleading and insistent. But, with his Dylanesque and McGuinnesque influences, he's molded and found his own, unique voice. And swagger. Listen to his warning on "You Got Lucky" and his urgent, gutteral plea on "Refugee". Petty is giving us buckets of his emotions into these songs. The greatness lies in him, and a superbly competent band that knows exactly what to do - time and time again. They are true treasures of rock. It gets my aged Seer's blood flowing once again. Something I haven't felt since the dragon got loose in my castle. It was a good thing I had garlic at my disposal.
Most of these songs are so well written that it makes your favorite Seer's Seer hat do somersaults. It is so incredulous. Everything has a place and a place for everything. No grandstanding here. The band flows - effortlessly - giving us true gems at every turn.
I must admit, I have a certain affection for "Don't Come Around Here No More". The same haberdasher made my Seer's hat as well. But I am not mad.Even if my guides debate that point.
So, the end of this petty tale is that this is certainly a very fine representation of a true, American rocker. Succinct, sonorous, satisfying. Tom Petty has rocked since this offering, but, I feel, never as hard and spectacular as he does here. But he is mega in rock music. Give a listen - then send accolades to me in care of my scottish castle.
Until then.....
I won't back down ---your numbing but happy -Metamorpho
Good one-disc compilation.......2007-03-25
This is the best single-disc compilation of Tom Petty that you can find. It's got all of the hits and no filler. Of course, there are more comprehensive compilations out there, but this does well for a single disc. It is definately a very good overview of Tom Petty and the great artist he is. The sound is also very good. I would definately recommend it.
really fine tunes.......2007-03-09
I love Tom Petty. This a good collection of his music. Particularly nostalgic for a dino rocker like me

Compare this to John Mellencamp's previous hits set, The Best That I Could Do 1978-1988, and it quickly becomes apparent how much the artist formerly known as John Cougar has grown in the second phase of his career. Following a 1994 heart attack, the songwriter transformed from cocky jukebox hero to compassionate everyman, trading in big pop riffs for sublime, politically charged songs that echo the outspoken work of Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young. Spanning 25 years, this 35-track set incorporates most of the last collection along with more recent hits over two discs in nonchronological order. --Aidin Vaziri

review songs.......2007-06-11
There is a whole lot of songs in this album. There were many good signature songs that I enjoyed and got to know but there were a few songs that I did not want to hear again. I think I got more of my money's worth on this album.
John Mellencamp's.......2007-05-03
Excellent, keeps you rockin' & dancing to the beat. Makes a great gift for those who love John Mellencamp's music. Hey we are over 50 & we just love his music!!!
Words Can't Say How Good This Music is!.......2007-03-31
Two CDs, 37 songs and most of them were massive hits this album is great value. There's so many hits on here, you select and listen to the big songs you here all the time on radio and played by cover bands in pubs all the time such as Jack and Dianne and Small Town to name just two, then as the CD moves to the next track you realise this next title whose name you'd forgotten is actually another great song and big hit that you also hear all the time. I never knew Mellencamp had so many hits but this album is more than evidence of his great talent.
You can also get this double album in a version that comes with a DVD (check first which version you are buying as the Amazon one on this page I'm reviewing is just two CDs) but even just the double CD of music is more than worth whatever the price is.
Words & Music/ John Mellencamps greatest hits.......2007-03-09
Excellent album and Music keeps your feet tapping along with a great video
Words and music and much more.......2007-02-14
Nice to see Mellencamp back in the mix and this is as nice a recap of his storied musical career as you are going to find. The two CDs span his prodigious career offering a nice mix of his music, roughly divided into activist songs on volume 1, and romantic yearnings on volume 2, which capture the full range of his work. The set is very nicely packaged and includes a bonus DVD that includes 5 videos. That's 3 discs in all!
Mellencamp always had a message, a bit simplistic at times, but on the money at other times with such wonderful parodies of Small Town America as Pink Houses and Small Town. Many of his early songs were about the devastating agricultural crisis of the 80s, and how bureaucrats and banking institutions had sold out farmers. Mellencamp also sang of more simplistic yearnings such as Jack & Diane and Authority Song, about teenage love and bucking authority. All in all this is a great collection of music, sure to please Mellencamp fans, and at an irresistable price.

huey lewis.......2007-05-19
CD arrived quickly and in excellent condition (new) as indicated in product description. very satisfied.
Has it all (great quanitity of songs and great quality).......2007-03-27
This cd is perfect. It has a large quantity of songs (most of the popular songs) and also the sound quality is superb. If you are looking for a "best of" type cd then I recommend this one.
Sometimes music just makes you feel good.......2007-03-24
Huey Lewis and the News have made as many feel good songs as any other band in popular music. Even when things are going wrong in their songs, like on "If This is It?" you can't help but sing-along and grin mindlessly. From the distinctive combination of roughness and melody of Lewis's vocals to the solid backing of his talented band (Whatever happened to those great sax breaks that were so common in the 80's?) Huey Lewis and The News rarely disappoints. This collection runs from the band's breakthrough second recording to the DUETS soundtrack. A few quibbles...I think they could have thrown in a cut from the debut album when the band was a little less polished and why the songs are not in chronological order just irritates me. (and that's probably just me!) This band won't change your life, but they definitely have the ability to brighten your mood; sometimes that's exactly what music should do.
Huey Luis & the News Greatest Hits.......2007-03-08
Thanks for this hard to find cd. CD in great shape.
K TEL HUEY LEWIS AND THE NEWS GREATEST HITS.......2007-02-26
This remind me of a K-Tel Compact disc. Where they cut most of the songs. It is sad to see this on the disc. The remixes of the following. The Heart Of Rock n' Roll, I Want A New Drug, Power Of Loce, Jacob Ladder are terrible remixes by probably a amateur producer with no ear for music. I would recomend that you buy Time Files instead if you can get a used copy. The reason that I keep it I'm along time fan of Huey and the News and from the North Bay like Mr. Lewis

Customer Reviews:
Same quality as always.......2007-06-27
I always find it interesting when people pan these albums, I mean seriously even if it's not your favorite it should get a minimum of 3 stars just for the quality of the music and honestly how can you know in one day if you are going to like it over all. Good music takes time to settle in and establish itself, if you want disposable pop, you are in the wrong place. 1 star would mean a terrible album and this is not that from any angle, like it or not the musicians are all top notch. That being said, this is exactly like versions 1-8 before it, so chances are if you like them you will grow to like this. You may prefer others, but they are all very similar. This one has some hauntingly beautiful music and some thumping chill burners. It's a very good selection for the buddha bar family. Highly recommended although not at $64, you can download it for much less.
Not any where near the 1st and 2nd.......2007-05-26
I get so excited when the new Buddha Bar CD's come out and rush to get them as fast as possible. This time and the last few hasn't been as deep and strong as the ones in the past. Still a nice collection of unique music but a bit of dissapointment for me.
A weak link in a strong chain.......2007-05-08
The Buddha-bar series is some of the greatest music we enjoy.
I never write reviews, until now.
Sorry to say, buddha bar 9 is the most dissappointing in the series.
Go back to BB8,7,6,4,2,1. Buddha Bar Nature DVD is excellent.
And the tradition continues..........2007-04-20
Ravin continues to amaze me as a DJ starting with his early days on the George V record label. His style continues to evolve from one album to the next and he has delivered yet again. Though Buddha Bar III is still my all time favorite out of the previous 8 albums, I can see myself making this one a close second. Sophisticated mixes with delicate layers laid with artistic flair that only a true artisan can enamor. This series has gathered a lot of fame over the years, and I am really glad that Buddha Bar IX is here to keep that flame alive. Buy this album without an apprehension...pure sonic bliss.

Great songs; Not-so-good audio quality.......2007-03-08
I bought this CD for the song "Tender Years", which has been one of those songs I've had a distant admiration for since I saw this movie back in the 80s. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the audio quality of this cd isn't the best. It sounds like it's been recorded live with some guy with a microphone (without the live crowd noise).
Cruising with Eddie & the Cruisers.......2007-01-19
This is an album of great rock music that I enjoy listening to during my morning jogs or cruising the vast distances of Australia.
Each song is a story supported by wonderful music and strong beat.
It is just a shame that the "Eddie & the Cruisers" movies and music got little or no exposure in Australia.
This is certainly an album to be enjoyed.
Eddie and the Cruisers.......2007-01-10
I bought this for my brother for Christmas and he loved it! Thanks!
Great Music from the Good Old Days.......2007-01-09
I Love this Album I am Young but I have seen the movie Eddie and The Cruisers and Loved the Movie and Music so I had to Get both of Them for me and my Mom....This Was a great Purchase and Others would like it too! Tabbie
Brings back the 80's.......2007-01-09
I'd loved this movie in 80's. But I didn't have the soundtrack then. Now I have both and it makes it so much better. Don't buy one without the other. I had to make two purchases b/c I didn't realize how much I'd want both until I had one of them.

Since co-founding the Nighthawks in 1972, this singer-guitarist's compass has pointed steadily toward the blues, but like 2006's In a Natural State collaboration with the Cate Brothers, this disc veers into roadhouse rock, country, and even jazz. Although it ends with a suite of three soulful instrumentals, including the Wes Montgomery-influenced title track and Jimi Hendrix's rarely covered psychedelic funker "Who Knows," Thackery's concentrated as much on songwriting here as his bruising guitar tones. He trashes the cult of celebrity in "Hit the Big Time" and "Fifteen Minutes," dripping pure acid over riff-based grooves, and "Blue Tears" is melancholy honky-tonk, sold by Thackery's thin, quavering voice and faux-steel-guitar string-bending. The spoken blues "XXX Wife" plays marital collapse for laughs, but Thackery remains most articulate when he's picking. The shuffle "Hobart's Blues" is a stone Texas 12-bar guitar showcase, and the album's beautiful centerpiece is "Daze in May," a Tex-Mex reverie that glides on Thackery's mix of acoustic tones, with a sunny, mellow electric melody and volume swells that conjure clouds floating through a peaceful desert sky. --Ted Drozdowski
Customer Reviews:
Solid Ice.......2007-06-25
This one really is a great record and I say "this one" because in May 9, 2007 after hearing several times the 2006 LP "In The Natural State", I ended up very disappointed with the limp work of Thackery and I posted in Amazon.com a perhaps much too furious criticism (see my review of that record). Now this SOLID ICE in spite of having some I would say inadequate themes, as the "Daze In May" and "Blue Tears" frankly poor and boring instead the good touch of guitar, full of Haitian-Caribbean and Country airs (I do not understand what he is thinking about when he composes these themes), the rest of the LP is frankly very good, Blues and Blues-Rock of high category with magnificient riffs and guitar solos, worthy of Thackery, the whole making it a real festival for all guitar fans. The first four themes are all very good, with an air of rock-and-roll restrospective the first three, and when you listen to the fourth, the mid-tempo "Hobart' s Blues", you begin to realize how good Jimmy is when he tries. I want to highlight "XXX Wife", with some Jazz air, "One Or The Other", good Blues-Pop, "Solid Ice", an instrumental relaxed Blues with Thackery's personal seal and great guitar, and a very good cover, also instrumental, of the great theme "Who Knows" composed by Jimmy Hendrix and released in its marvellous Band Of Gypsys. This one really is a very good record, I recommend it.

Amazon.com essential recording
The most striking thing about this two-disc overview of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers is the powerful case it makes for its creators as the most consistent band of not only their era, but of all time. Think of another rocker who can claim to have created a quarter-century of recordings that, when ranked on a 10-point scale, never dip below a solid 7? Indeed, while disc 1 reflects a marginally more aggressive mindset than disc 2, it wouldn't be difficult to imagine the discs flip-flopped; maturity has yet to induce lethargy for Petty and the boys. Occupying the solid middle ground between the 18-track Greatest Hits and the six-disc Playback box, Anthology serves up 34 selections, nearly every one an FM staple. From 1976's "Breakdown" through the collection's only new offering, 2000's "Surrender," this retrospective never flags. But how could it? --Steven Stolder
Customer Reviews:
Great for "Casual Fans".......2007-06-30
I've been listening to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers ever since they hit the radio airwaves back in the late seventies. I remember going to neighboorhood party's during the summer of 1978 (I was in Junior High) and Refugee was in the Top 40, gettin' blasted through the speakers.
Subsequently, over the years, I have purchased every one of Tom's and the Boy's cd's. I still consider myself just a casual fan. I simply like the hits off each cd, with a few extras thrown in by personal taste. Anyway, the majority of these discs are from the early '90's. Not the best sound quality. And, it takes some time and effort to load each disc in my itunes and pick just the songs that I want. The solution?
Buy this 2-disc Anthology. It's a great price. It's sounds good. And all your favorite Petty tunes are right there, conveniently in one place, uh...or two. I dropped them into my iPod, and haven't looked back since.
Now all I have to do is get The Last DJ and The Highway Companion, and I'm done.
Brings Tears To Your Eyes.......2007-06-08
Since Tom Petty is an icon of my generation, I could not help but enjoy/love this CD. All of his popular songs and even the not so popular songs make this CD an excellent choice for those rockers who want to turn it down a notch but have the great guitar licks coming at you with precision.
Buy this album.......2007-05-28
This album is an essential for any Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers fan. Normally I try to stay away from albums that are compiled with songs that are considered to be the best of, but this album is definitely an exception. It's not the best of, it's Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers at their best. Trust me, this is an excellent addition to any music lovers collection.
Outstanding Petty anthology covering the MCA years.......2007-02-27
THE BAND: Tom Petty (vocals, guitar, keyboards, harmonica), Mike Campbell (lead guitar), Benmont Tench (keyboards), Howie Epstein (bass), Ron Blair (bass), Stan Lynch (drums & percussion). Guest appearances include, George Harrison, Stevie Nicks, Jeff Lynne.
THE DISCS: (2000) 34 tracks on two discs clocking in at approximately 124 minutes (disc-1 with 57:37 minutes, and disc-2 with 66:16). Included with the discs is a 10-page booklet containing song titles/credits, band photos, a 1-page intro from Cameron Crowe, what songs came from which albums and the year released. This compilation follows Petty from his debut in 1976 through this 2000 "Anthology". Digitally remastered sound. Label - UTV Records / MCA.
ALBUM REPRESENTATION: Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers (4 songs), You're Gonna Get It (3), Damn The Torpedoes (4), Hard Promises (2), Long After Dark (3), Southern Accents (3), Pack Up The Plantation (1), Let Me Up - I've Had Enough (2), Full Moon Fever (5), Into The Great Wide Open (3), Greatest Hits (1), Playback (1), Anthology (1), Bella Donna - Stevie Nicks 1981 solo album (1).
COMMENTS: Every music listener needs some Tom Petty in his/her collection. "Damn The Torpedoes" (1979) and "Full Moon Fever" (1989) are essential studio recordings of his. Other albums like his self titled debut, "Long After Dark", "Southern Accents" and "Into The Great Wide Open" are great albums, but I wouldn't classify them as essential Petty necessarily. Petty's "Greatest Hits" (1993) is still a fine representation on one disc, but with this more recent 2-disc "Anthology", the '93 disc is now obsolete. 17 of the 18 songs from his "Greatest Hits" album are here, minus the skippable last track "Something In The Air". THE GOOD: All the staples are here - "Breakdown", "American Girl", "I Need To Know", "Refugee", "Here Comes My Girl", "Don't Do Me Like That", "Even The Losers", "You Got Lucky", "Don't Come Around Here No More", "Free Fallin'", "I Won't Back Down", "Runnin' Down A Dream", "Learning To Fly", "Mary Jane's Last Dance", etc. The minor successes absent from his '93 "Greatest Hits" are here - "Change Of Heart", "A Woman In Love (It's Not Me)", "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around", "So You Want To Be A Rock & Roll Star", "Jammin' Me", "Love Is A Long Road", and "Yer So Bad". There are several deep album cuts (i.e. "Hometown Blues", "The Wild One, Forever", "Too Much Ain't Enough", etc) that are nice inclusions. Chronological order is a bonus here - showcasing Petty's slight changes over the decades. Song selection is top notch. The remastered sound is crisp. THE NOT SO GOOD: Only two things stick out here. First and foremost, there are no tracks from his "Wildflowers" (1994) or "Echos" (1999) albums... most likely due to these 2 albums being on the 'Warner Bros' label (and everything prior on MCA's label). This is a shame because I really feel the songs "You Wreck Me", "Cabin Down Below" and "It's Good To Be King" deserve to be on "Anthology". Perhaps this should've been titled "Anthology - Through The MCA Years". In the same vein, there are no selections from Petty's soundtrack to the movie "She's The One" (1996). Many of Petty's early songs are short (out of the first 8 tracks, the longest song is three-and-a-half minutes), and with that being said why not throw a few more songs on both discs and utilize the free space (22 unused minutes alone on disc-1). OVERALL: A ton of music and all the major hits (despite the 2 omitted albums from Warner Bros). To date, this is the best Tom Petty compilation... period (5 stars).
Great Collection!.......2007-02-12
This is a great collection that spans Mr. Petty's career so far. There is not a bad song here. I put it on and turned it up when it arrived at my house. I am familiar with most of the songs and happy to hear the ones I missed. I recommend head phones and a comfortable couch and give this a good listen. The waiting is the hardest part....

The Best That I Could Do collects the singles that led John Mellencamp into the radio/jukebox pantheon he celebrated in "R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A." and "Cherry Bomb." While albums such as American Fool, Uh Huh, and Scarecrow held Top 10 spots for months, their spinoff hits made this Hoosier disciple of Jagger, J.B., and Iggy into something like a Reagan-era John Fogerty: not only were "Pink Houses," "Paper in Fire," and "Crumblin' Down" wise (and wiseacre) dispatches from an America where it wasn't always morning, they could fill a dance floor and get you pounding the dashboard on the way home. --Rickey Wright

John Mellencamp.......2007-03-27
Teriffic Cd. Always a pleasure looking and ordering from Amazon. I have never had any problems. This place is great. Very pleased. Thank you. I look forward to shopping again.
I had forgotten how much I enjoyed his music..........2007-03-14
until I heard a couple of his '80s hits on my daughter's ipod. So I bought this and wasn't disappointed. All great songs, all great to sing along to. I personally think his '80s stuff was way better than Springsteen's '80s output. Not as bombastic or nostalgic.
Good Collection of Hits.......2007-02-08
Good Collection of Hits but you might want to invest your $$ on Mellencamp's excellent "Words & Music: John Mellencamp's Greatest Hits [LIMITED EDITION]"
Great Collection of Songs.......2006-05-27
Great Collection of Songs
This is another one of those "best of" compilations. If you're new to John or just want to hear the hits (up until 1988), this is a good CD to get. If you'd like to hear what John is really about, I think you should get the individual albums. Although all the songs here are greats, it's almost too skimpy of a collection to fully appreciate John's great music. Still, it's good fun to have all the hits in one place for easy listening convenience, and I do recommend it.
Best Ever - All Classics.......2005-09-21
This will be the fourth time I am purchasing this CD. My daughters have "borrowed" every other copy I had. Just the fact that I would buy this 4 times (so far) should tell you something. And you know what? If I lose this copy, I'll buy it AGAIN!!
If you love John Cougar Mellencamp, this is a CD you must have.

While comparisons to nerd-rock dandies Weezer are probably inevitable for the fabulously named All-American Rejects, discerning listeners will note that where the cheeky lyrics about painfully awkward love end, the group's rhythmic force picks up, positioning the Oklahoma crew more as a geeky Green Day than the above-named preppy pop dabblers. No shame in that--on their major label debut, the All-American Rejects marry punk and pop with a clear sense of purpose and no particular loyalty to either form, cherry-picking the best of each and arriving at a spiky, effervescent middle ground. Singer Tyson Ritter is especially convincing in his role as hapless lover. But on tracks like the muscular "Too Far Gone" and the vaguely orchestral "The Last Song," Ritter's comrades drive the whole shebang home with instrumental freight. And you'd have to be pretty hard-hearted not to find yourself echoing the sing-singy strains of "Swing Swing" and "My Paper Heart." Fans of ironic pop--Box Car Racer, Fountains of Wayne, and their ilk--get crackin'. --Kim Hughes

This album was actually really decent as opposed to the follow up album move along. This album has some decent sounds on it. Overall an ok album for people looking for something these days that doesn't flat out suck!!

This CD is just great to listen to anytime, even if you don't really enjoy the group's more current songs now. It's peppy, energetic, catchy, and just in general a good idea to own.

Not a bad movie, but it didn't have the suspense of the first movie. We enjoyed it a lot. John Cafferty can still ROCK!!!!

I received my CD of Eddie & the Cruisers2: Eddie Lives! in a very timely manner. The CD is in excellant condition, and l just love the CD.
I have to say at first l was very unsure of ordering online.
[...] has been very good in helping me to get over that fear.
Thanks Again
Eddie Lives.......2007-02-17
This is really an under-rated CD...some people don't know they made a 2nd movie. Don't expect it to sound like the 1st soundtrack...this has a strong late 80's sound. It is supposed to be 20 years later.
The only song missing from this I would have liked to see is 'When The World Was Young'...but they put it on part-3...the Unreleased Tapes.
Eddie and the Cruisers.......2007-01-10
