There's a long tradition of artists banding together for a noble cause, but--needless to say--good intentions are no guarantee of good art. Fortunately, the twain do meet and the project even succeeds with creative flair in this compilation. It kicked off the Red Hot AIDS Benefit series back in 1990 and in fact launched its own sort of minigenre, including theme albums devoted to George Gershwin and Duke Ellington. In fact, this eclectic mix of Cole Porter covers interpreted by a wide swath of contemporary artists unfurls a pretty ambitious agenda in addition to its message of AIDS awareness and compassion. Here, the legacy of this ultra-sophisticated, closeted master of the popular song from the era of the "lost generation" is presented as a source of rejuvenating inspiration. Porter's craft seems validated by the very flexibility of the original songs as they get retrofitted to encompass styles ranging from U2 and Tom Waits to Jungle Brothers. There's an occasional miscalculation (Debbie Harry and Iggy Pop's didactic "updating" of Porter's bon vivant wit doesn't compare well with the original), but moments of stunning fusion abound (Sinéad O'Connor and Annie Lenox contribute especially memorable gems). Instead of getting lost in translation, Red Hot + Blue adds a whole new dimension to the art of swellegance. --Thomas May

4 out of 5 stars red hot and sometimes, not!.......2007-05-14

this is the red hot that started the whole affair. this collection of cole porter covers was recorded as a way to let the world know that the music industry cared about aids awareness and raising money to bring about a cure.

the representation of artists is a cross section of who was hot in 1990 with few exceptions (prince, janet jackson, madonna and cyndi lauper immediately comes to mind--madonna would pay her dues soon though). some of them are gloriously up to doing the cole porter songs justice.

for example, lisa stansfield's 'down in the depths' is elegantly jazzy and a perfect showcase for her sweet honeyed mezzo. and, kd lang can do wrong working her way through 'so in love'. it's brilliant. as is annie lennox's 'ev'ry time we say goodbye'.

others bring their stamp to the songs and make it happen for the pop market. u2's 'night and day' is a great success, david byrne takes 'don't fence me in' on a great romp and fine young cannibals take 'love for sale', which has an unshakeable identity with women from billie holiday to aretha franklin, and makes it a randy boy-toy cruise that porter would have loved!

now, while sinead o'connor and iggy pop made be the last two singers one would expect to take on cole porter, o'connor's whispery boop-a-doop approach to 'you do something to me' is a definite change of pace and pop just says 'so what!?' he and debbie harry give 'well, did you evah?' the punked out once over that again would have tickled porter to no end.

now, if he wouldn't lose his sense of humor on some of the rest, as a listener i do. jody watley has one of the toughest tunes to do in 'after you--who?'. and a sense of humor or a little help from elton john might have saved her. as is her apporach is too studied and careful. and i don't get salif keita's 'begin the beguine'. this is one of the songs that needed to be sung because of its lusicious melody. and i like rap as much as the next person but i have to concede the point that porter's lyrics don't need reconception as raps.

4 out of 5 stars A CD I still listen to regularly after years.......2007-02-19

This collection of Cole Porter songs performed by different contemporary artists came out in the early 90's as a fundraiser to benefit AIDS research.

The artists have different styles, so you'll probably like some tracks much more than others. I think they're uniformly good with some standouts, such as Annie Lennox's Everytime We Say Goodbye.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting tribute developing now it's own classic status........2006-07-18

The beautiful elements of all Porter's work are that the songs he penned are elegant, witty, refreshingly verbose, timeless and can, in effect, be sung by anyone to anyone. They are loving, sexy and sexless at once; which reveals much about the great man's character and genius.
The songs and artists here are a sound spread of genre. Sung in either classic form or as refreshing reworkings. On the whole it works well with a few unfortunate exceptions.
It is well worth adding to a discerning collection. My personal favourites are those which by and large retain their classic quality, Annie Lennox, K D Lang and Lisa Stansfield do beautiful interpretations of their chosen songs. Andy Bell and David Byrne add twists which work to great effect. It is a certainty that the album is developing it's own classic status as time moves on, it was origianlly released in 1990. The perfect tribute at the time and a mark of how far we have come in an effort to fight HIV. The songs howevr in my opinion need little tinkering or adjustment since they were and are beautiful, it is a shame some of the artists chose to rework certain songs so heavily.

4 out of 5 stars FINE YOUNG CANNIBALS THE BEST SONG.......2006-05-21

I BOUGHT THIS CD FOR ONE SONG AND ONE SONG ONLY.
LOVE FOR SALE BY THE FINE YOUNG CANNIBALS. THE CANNIBALS
NOT ONLY DO JUSTICE TO COLE PORTER'S LEGACY, THEIR PERFORMANCE
ILLUSTRATES PORTER'S SONGWRITING BRILLIANCE. ROLAND GIFT NAILS THE SONG'S MOODS AND THE ACCOUSTIC TOUCH IS ON TARGET FOR THIS SONG. IT IS A SHAME THAT THE CANNIBALS ONLY MADE A COUPLE ALBUMS, BUT LOVE FOR SALE IS ARGUABLY THEIR FINEST SONG, AND REASON ENOUGH TO BUY THIS CD.

2 out of 5 stars Ridiculous blended with the sublime.......2006-02-26

I am going to load this CD on my computer so that I can delete half of the tracks. Whoever had the bright idea of having someone rap out Cole Porter songs must've been on drugs. Cole Porter songs are known for their polished lyrics. Having hip-hop artists add what they think of as poetry is a travesty.

Some of the cuts are excellent. Sinead O'Connor needs to do more standards. Annie Lennox can sing anything and I'll love it. Tom Waits, on the other hand, sounds best singing his own music. Song samples listed on the Amazon web page give the best segments of the songs, not a representative sample. So, if you enjoy experimenting, or can afford to buy a whole CD for a few good tracks, get this CD. If you want an album of Porter's standards this is not for you.

4 out of 5 stars Innovative music.......2007-06-03

I have been listening to such contemporary artists as Bond, Yanni, Taleinsin Orchestra,... so I am not a new comer to contemporary fusion classical music. If I had listened to this CD when it first came out almost 10 years ago, I would probably have given it a 5. I am only giving it a four now (maybe a 3.5?) because there are simply other better albums out there - most of the songs here are more classically influenced than its purported to be. Also, while Vanessa-Mae is an accomplished violinist, she is not the most spectacular violnist. At times, she lackes the energy to propell her music to the next level. However, all in all, an enjoyable album, although nothing ground-breaking.

1 out of 5 stars Slop from a slapper.......2005-03-01

This terrible and dull album launched the career of Über-nothing violinist, Vanessa Mae.

It is hard to describe the depth of the level to which this album stoops to be "popular". Low brow? You bet! Exploitative? Oh yeah! Dumbed down Classical Music? Well, that's what we've got here!

Value of this album? Hard to say. I am sure that Vanessa's parents and agent are happy with this prosaic product.

Very dumbed down dumb music - for the legions of philistines and musically naive of the world.

In one word, a "dud".

2 out of 5 stars HO HUM --- REALLY NOT INTERESTING AT ALL.......2003-07-11

As violin technique goes, there is not much here in evidence to get all fired up about. She is an adequete violinist who does just fine with the material she is given, but the only people who are going to think that she is a violinist for the ages are people who don't know anything about violin playing.

That being said, this album had the potential to be interesting, except that the arrangements of Mike Batt are about as flat as one can get. This album seems to be more about Mike Batt's ego than about Vanessa Mae, as Mike perform, conducts, composes & produces practically every piece. This would be fine if the end product was remotely interesting, but of it sounds like it should be background music. The Bach arrangement, with gratuitous techno-pop flourishes thrown in at every opportunity, just bogs down in an effort to be "innovative." Most of Batt's compositions leave no impression whatsoever.

Any lunatic who puts this crossover album in the classical category truly needs to go back to Music Appreciation 101, to be reminded of what classical music is. File this one in the Fluffy Boring Pop category and forget about it.

5 out of 5 stars Classical With a Twist.......2003-07-01

The first notes of Vanessa Mae's The Violin Player sound like a dramatic beginning to a classical composition, but it's not. This album in fact is anything but traditional classical. It's unique, creative, energetic and alive and I give Vanessa props for being brave enough to come out with it. It's hard to be different. The fact that Vanessa did make the music and did it so well says that she's a true artist, something sadly lacking in a world where technical mastery is considered more important than artistic invention. This is a fantastic, fun album that you'll want to listen to again and again, the music hitting something within you and bringing all sorts of energy you didn't know you had bubbling to the surface. If you won't buy it for that reason, then buy it for it's historical significance. It's already plain to me, Vanessa Mae with this album changed the one sided face of classical music forever.

4 out of 5 stars Highly Listenable.......2002-11-13

Let's get this straight upfront: Vanessa Mae is a good violin player, but I've heard plenty better in the classical world today. You buy this CD not for Mae's technique as a violinist (frankly, I'd give her just a 6 or 7 out of 10), but for her innovation - her ground-breaking album that blends the old-style classical music with pop/techno/jazz, and gives that genre of music (which had there for a while even before Mae) the kind of visibility that it did not use to have. This album is novel and upbeat, and is highly listenable both to people who like classical music and those who find it intimdating (or boring). Would especially recommend this to people in their 20s and 30s.

Nicholas Hytner's new musical drama Center Stage focuses on the competitive world of professional dance and, like Fame before it, features plenty of music meant to keep your feet moving. The Red Hot Chili Peppers' cover of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground" and the Stevie Wonder-influenced Jamiroquai's two contributions would've found better company among the classical works of Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev featured in the movie than with the pop product that fills this soundtrack. New teen sensation Mandy Moore bookends the album with "I Wanna Be with You," featured both as straight pop confection and as a slightly techno-ed remix (the Soul Solution Mix). This time, the Diane-Warren-songwriter-for-hire tune is the ballad "If I Was the One," performed perfunctorily by the Baltimore duo Ruff Endz. The rest is the teen quartet P.Y.T., undistinguished stylists such as Ashley Ballard and Cyrena, and a Michael Jackson tune from Bad. Might sound OK during a workout at the gym, but not as serious listening. --Rob O'Connor

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous.......2006-02-25

If you like the movie, you will love the soundtrack! A must have for any "Center Stage" fan!

4 out of 5 stars Center Stage Soundtrack.......2004-06-06

When I first saw the movie, I was skeptical about the music. I was expecting the soundtrack to have all of the classical stuff that had been used for the more mainstream performances. Instead, they included songs like First Kiss and I Wanna Be With You (which I have to say is not my favorite song). All in all, a well-rounded soundtrack. I'm really glad they left Come Baby Come on the soundtrack. 4 stars.
Disappointments: They left "Candy" off the soundtrack, and put on "I Wanna Be With You." Small mistake there.

4 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack.......2004-02-21

The Soundtrack was as good as the movie with a few exceptions.

I could do without the Latino song "Come Baby Come" which not many people like to listen to unless dancing in a Salsa bar. Also one of the better songs I beleive it's called "Candy" is missing from the soundtrack. This would be the song during the warm-up at the dance studio. Why must they cut songs that should be on the soundtracks out of them?

5 out of 5 stars great for a workout at the gym.......2003-05-25

After seeing the film 'center stage' I fell in love with the music and immediantly went out and bought the soundtrack. The cd consists and very dancable tracks that can be played over and over again. Some of the best would have to be those featured at the end of the film, Micheal Jackson's classic 'The way you make me feel', the beautiful ballad 'If I was the one' by ruff endz and the sizzleing dance anthem 'canned heat', performed by Jamiroquai. These would be my pick of the bunch. Special mention should go to Mandy Moore, whose 'I wanna be with you' is a perfect piece of pop ballad heaven and fits nicely into the film. The talented group P.Y.T contribute a couple of songs, the pick of these would have to be 'We're Dancing' which is a wonderful addition to the album with its smooth sound and catchy lyrics. 'Cosmic girl' by Jamiroquai and 'Higher ground' by the red hot chilli peppers are also worth a mention. This album is so good it practically lives in my cd player and is always being borrowed by my friends. Overall this is one heck of a great album!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Dance/Workout/Just chillin' music!.......2003-05-21

The movie was so incredible that it made you want to dance forever...what could be better to dance to than the soundtrack! Granted, not all of the songs are "dancy" (and of course, "Candy" is missing) but the ones that aren't are still awesome background "hanging out" songs.
There's a song for every mood on here....from loving and longing for someone (If I was the One, A Girl Can Dream, First Kiss, I Wanna Be With You).....to ecstatic affection for one's best friend(s) (Friends Forever).....to power-workout music (Higher Ground).....to confidence of one's own sex appeal and/or abilities (Cosmic Girl, Get Used to This, Don't Get Lost in the Crowd)......to dancing for the sheer love of dancing music (Canned Heat, We're Dancing...and the salsa sounds of Come Baby Come).
If you loved the movie, chances are you'll be inspired by this CD!

5 out of 5 stars rhythm music.......2007-06-08

I bought this for a friend after I bought it for myself. Great variety of songs. Wonderful for parties. Would recommend.

5 out of 5 stars red hot and best!.......2007-05-14

of the many red hots i've listened to, this one is the best!

the music, those great catchy samba and bossa nova tunes that became wildly popular during the 1960s, are suited to each of the artists making a guest appearance on the cd.

among the highlights are the trip-hop infused 'corcovado' by everything but the girl, the dance-club happy 'boy from ipanema' by crystal waters--which also contains one of her best vocal performances--, sting's loving, pensive 'how insensitive', maxwell's calming 'security' and caetano veloso's highly erotic 'e preciso perdoar'.

the collection, generally speaking, is a great party cd and each song is treated with a great deal of ingenuity and integrity.

4 out of 5 stars New Takes on Brazilian Pop.......2005-06-30

Now, mind you, I can't tell the samba from the bossa nova from...some other type of music that might be played in Brazil. But I still have an interest in hearing the quasi-tropical cocktail lounge-style pop tunes of this mighty South American giant. They speak Portugese there, you know. And are known to launch at a moment's notice into the lamabada, which is a forbidden dance.

Most of the songs contained herein were written way back in the day by Antonio Carlos Jobim and at least a few should be vaguely familiar: "The Girl From Ipanema", of course, but also "One Note Samba", "Waters Of March", and "Water To Drink". But these aren't the original versions--they're updates in a variety of styles. Some work pretty well, some will make you want to hurl (mainly Sting's take on "How Insensitive", which is droning and pointless).

Notable are: a punched-up synth-heavy "Ipanema" by one-hit-wonder Crystal Waters, jazz group Incognito on "Water To Drink", world-music-loving David Byrne and sultry Marisa Monte on "Waters Of March", the well-known Caetano Veloso and Ryuichi Sakamoto with the lesser-known Cesaria Evora on "E Preciso Perdoar", Stereolab's quirky and strange "One Note Samba", and Bebel Gilberto on "Preciso Dizer Que Te Amo".

The Red Hot series, which started with the Cole Porter tribute "Red Hot + Blue", has always done excellent work and this compilation is no exception. If you'd like to sample Brazilian pop music of a certain era but you're terrified of breaking out your dad's dusty old Jobim LPs, this is a great way to see what's what.

Also the liner notes are extensive and informative, so you really get your money's worth. I'm still not clear on the divide between samba and bossa nova, but I reckon that's my fault.

I enjoyed 1.Used Your Head by Money Mark, 2.Corcovado done by Everything but the Girl, the funkie beats were great, 3.Desafinado done by Astrud Gilberto & George Michael was soothing and relaxing, 4.Non-Fiction Burning was enjoyable 5.Crystal Waters' version of The Boy from Ipenema, LOVED IT!! the music makes your body want to move, it will be favorite, 7.Seguranca (Security) done by MAXWELL with that sultry soft voice of his & the music, this is a favorite, 8.E Preciso Perdoar done by Cesaria Evora & Caetano Veloso w/Ryuichi Sakamoto on the keyboard, Damn I love Cesaria's voice, she got off, this is definetly a favorite, 10.Water to Drink by Incognito w/Omar & Anna Caram was nice, 11.Dancing by Milton Nascimento was enjoyable, 12.How Insensitive done by Antonio Carlos Jobim & Sting, I didn't care for Sting singing this song, I do enjoy Sting's music but not this, he wasn't the man for it. 13.Water of March done by David Byrne & Marisa Monte was okay, but I enjoy Al Jarreau & Oleta Adams rendition on "A Twist of Jobim" better, 15.One Note Samba/Surfboard by Stereolab & Herbie Mann, I didn't care for that techno or computer sounding stuff, it sounded like the music on The Wiz when they were trying to get away from the trash cans, it will get a skip, 17.Black Orpheus Dub by Mad Professor, it had sort of a Rasta, funk, techno flair which was okay, 18.Chico Science & X DJ Soul Slinger, I couldn't get into that either, that will get a skip too, 19.Funk'N Lata's Sambadrome, was short & funky, 20.Giberto Gil's Refazenda, his voice went well with the song, 21.Preciso Dizer Que Te Amo done by Cazuza & Bebel Gilberto was nice, but the sound was off, it sounded like they were singing in a tube. I manly purchased this CD because it had my 2 favorite singers Maxwell and Cesaria Evora & I enjoyed both of their songs immensely. I am totally satisfied with this purchase and it will be one of my favorite CDs which I listen to often.

5 out of 5 stars Great for Jobim Fans.......2002-07-16

If you like Bossa Nova, particularly Antonio Carlos Jobim, you will love this CD. It has covers by many current artists of his songs, as well as some other Brazilian music. I like how the liner has the lyrics in English, but almost all the songs are in Portuguese. The David Byrne Waters of March in an exception, where he sings in English, and a woman is singing in Portuguese, but it works out very well.

An excellent addition. I have most of the songs on the album on at least two other CDs, but the artists have played with the songs enough to complement the originals.

As Red Hot Organization celebrations of composers and genres go, Red Hot & Rhapsody is certainly timely, coming as it does at the 100th anniversary of George Gershwin's birth. Like its predecessors, it's also trendily eclectic. While its "groove" sometimes falls on the wrong side of the divide between sinuous and sleepy--a version of "Summertime" by Morcheeba and lite-jazz flutist Hubert Laws that finds vocalist Sky Edwards carefully pronouncing the "g" that isn't in the word "jumpin'"--and Natalie Merchant and Duncan Sheik are just plain wrong for their material, this is a solid disc that makes a good case for having Bobby Womack, Luscious Jackson, Money Mark, and Clark Terry on the same five inches of plastic and aluminum. --Rickey Wright

4 out of 5 stars gershwin is always good.......2007-05-11

two years ago, i got this idea for a themed concert. i called it the 'the red hot dance concert' and asked the teachers to select songs from the red hot series, red hot and blue, red hot and dance, red hot and rio, red hot and gershwin and any others we could get our red hot hands on were under immediate consideration.

for some odd reason, 'red hot and gershwin' got passed over quite a bit.

i think i know why. the range of songs and treatments are great ambient music. i love davina's raspy vocals on 'i was doing all right'. they are a great compliment to the baaba maal at the end of the disc. and sinead o'connor's breathy, waif sound is a blessing to 'someone to watch over me', considering that linda ronstadt's blare-through is still upon us from some twenty years ago. stereolab's 's'wonderful' is also chic, cosmo-swirling stuff.

but nothing here really gets the foot to tapping. and it really doesn't need to, either. just put it on and shake the martinis!

4 out of 5 stars Groovy Revisit of Classic Tunes.......2005-07-21

A unique re-mix of fantastic tunes. Everytime I play this CD, friends are asking who is singing and where they can get a copy. A great CD with clever adaptations by Finley "Quaye, Natalie Merchant and Bowie (to name a few).

3 out of 5 stars so-so if you ask me.......2001-08-08

If George Gerswhin heard this cd, he'd probably turn over in his grave. It's just an insult to the man's art to cover his songs by just singing over a Casio beat (refer to tracks 1, 4, 10, 12, 13, and 14). But the biggest disappointments came from the big names on the cd-- namely Natalie Merchant. Her version of "But Not for Me" is soooo boring. Even I can sing it better than she can. Sinead O'Conner didn't do much better with "Someone to Watch Over Me". The only standout track was Clark Terry's "Let's Call the Whole Think Off". Maybe it was best to give these classic songs a 90's facelift and add the drum tracks and all that programming/sampling. Smoke City's "They Can't Take That Away From Me"(song #4) and Sarah Cracknell's "The Man I Love" (song #13) are pretty good. This isn't that bad of a cd, but it could be so much better. Seems like many people liked it by all the 5-star reviews. But if you happen to buy this cd and are a little disappointed, don't be because you're still helping out a wonderful cause.

5 out of 5 stars Gershwin With a Beat.......2000-05-23

This album will float you through those sultry summer evenings with its smooth sounds. For the Gershwin lover, for the R&B lover, or for just the lover: it's a purchase you won't regret.

5 out of 5 stars An eclectic collection of sultry sounds and mellow jazz.......2000-05-22

I purchased this CD 2 years ago and it is still my favorite. This CD however is not for the generic jazz music lover. The tone is almost lounge-slow with some of the artists adding their somber interpretation to the songs. Yet the Natalie Merchant version of "But Not for Me" alone makes the album worth buying. Out of all 17 tracks, there is only one song I am not particulary fond of, although it is beginning to grow on me....

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Eerie, disturbing musical soundtrip.......2006-03-11

This is one of the stranger releases in the Red Hot AIDS Benefit series. The album contains a mix of electronica, trip-hop, post-rock, spoken word, and ambient interludes. It forms a uniquely cohesive whole due to interludes that connect the various performances. It also is the gloomiest and darkest work released in the Red Hot series.

While the album as a whole certainly gels smoothly together, nonetheless, much of the album is essentially forgettable background noise (The pieces attributed to My Bloody Valentine are essentially Kevin Shields playing ambient noise in the distance-certainly don't go out of your way to buy this thinking it's some long lost Valentines classic; and Moby's track, while politically charged, is simply a baby crying over incidental laughter).

That said, there is some stunning, haunting music contained within. Laika's 'Looking for the Jackalope' ranks with the best things they've done. The guitar line on Tomandandy's 'Cartridgemusic' will never leave your head. And Soul Coughing and David Byrne both contribute thrilling beat-inspired sound collages.

So, while I find myself putting this album on at times for gloomy, rainy night background music, it is certainly not for all tastes. If you enjoy the work of Portishead, Tricky, or 'Combustication' by MMW, then you should like this.

3 out of 5 stars Madcap for Offbeat.......2002-04-05

Love the jazzy beats. I was expecting a more electronic/dance vibe but was quite pleased to find a smoky chill trip on the beats. Each time I played it - I liked it just that much more. Plus, it benefits a worthwhile cause.

    Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars great music for a good cause.......2007-05-11

the best among these cuts is madonna's 'supernatural'. she was still doing that cheeky combo of latin beats and saucy lyrics. she also still had that tight, closed sound to her vocals that made her voice distinctive. damn that seth riggs for training her out of her style!

because this was a sony release and george michael was a sony contractee, he is the most featured artist on the disc. his contributions, save 'too funky' are not very memorable.

the remixes aren't bad, especially 'change' by lisa stansfield. but there would be more and better suprises with later red hot discs.

3 out of 5 stars George Michael and the Others.......2006-12-29

Usually the entries in the Red Hot series have a high level of quality and a good degree of thematic consistency, and even when they don't quite measure up, they are at least interesting. This second CD (there have since been at least a half dozen more), however, is a bit of a miss. Chalk it up to growing pains.

The organizing principle this time is dance music, and I submit that only half the cuts here would really qualify as tunes that would make you get your groove thang out on the floor. Madonna's offering is subpar, PM Dawn's single hit (sampling from Spandau Ballet's "True") is NOT gonna make you sweat 'til you bleed, the Crystal Waters remix is pointless, and the film scoring duo of tomandandy contribute a droning and depressing little number.

Lisa Stansfield's "Change" is quite good, but again, not exactly something that sets the pulse pounding, and ditto for "Apparently Nothin'" by the Young Disciples. The strongest songs here are the opening trio by George Michael, and particularly the sample-heavy "Too Funky", which rollicks along in the mode of the fairly contemporaneous "I Want Your Sex".

Altogether, it's not a bad album, but it's far from great, and you can probably get a superior George Michael fix elsewhere.

3 out of 5 stars Best description: ADEQUATE.......2003-04-13

As other reviewers have stated, the strongest cuts ARE those contributed by George Michael, an artist whose news-making sexual activities placed him in, what best can be called, "musical leprosy". However, when he was in the limelight, he did shine brightly and the three here exemplify why he was hot.

The other jewel is Todds CD Mix of Sly & The Family Stone's "Thank You (Falettin Me Be Mice elf Agin). Adding a heavier bass line reinvigorates a true classic.

The remainder of the album, however, doesn't cut it. A weak Madonna entry and other lifeless remixes seem to contradict the terms "red, hot, and dance".

4 out of 5 stars George Michael gems.......2001-04-23

The best contributions on this album are George Michael's 'Do You Really Want To Know' and 'Happy'. While 'Too Funky' might have been the big hit with the super-model filled video, it is these other two that are the real gems.

Madonna also contributes a very good track (and I am *not* a fan of Madonna's post-Vogue material) that is well worth the price of admission. The rest of the tracks are "okay" at best, with none really standing out.

But the GM tracks are worth it alone.

5 out of 5 stars I Bought this CD for ONLY one reason - Madonna's song........1999-07-06

This CD is good but what makes it great is Madonna's contribution. "Supernatural" is one of her best songs and worth the price of the whole CD. I can't believe it was never released as a single. Great dance number and Madonna's sense of humor is cherishable in this song. Buy it!

2 out of 5 stars RUPAUL - An old dog with no new tricks - You're Not Cher Honey.......2006-08-04

OK I bought this on a whim after stumbling across it in the USA. I remember buying Supermodel in the early 90's and completely loving it but this, this is nasty. It left a really awful after burn in my ears as I tried to remember the sample from the original artiste. I know the whole idea of Drag is to mime along to someone else's track but the durge that is considered, as original lyrics are truly painful. Only buy this if you are a true must have everything by him Fan..

    4 out of 5 stars A Return to Form!.......2006-01-03

Rupaul goes back to his roots with this album. Remember his debut alnbum and how great it was? This is very reminiscent of that album. Songs with a good beat that you can sing to. Not trancey like what dance music has become. This is a good album. It should have gotten more attention.

    5 out of 5 stars WOW!!.......2005-10-11

This album really is REDHOT:) I was very surprised when i heard the content on this cd. it sounded like any other SUPERSTAR, too bad RuPaul isnt promoted as much as other stars, he could conquer the world:)

5 out of 5 stars MAKES YOU WANT TO DANCE.......2005-10-08

I am a straight male and have never heard anything by RuPaul but came across it from my sisters music collection "who is a lesbian" and was thoroughly impressed. I have it in my car all the time. I just dont understand why her music isnt on the charts. THIS IS TRULY A MUSTHAVE!!!

    5 out of 5 stars HOTT!!!!!!!!.......2005-10-01

I have never bought any of her album's before. But I promised to buy this album. Love from beginning to end. LGFG, is my ultimate song, then Kink/Freaky is next; I love the rap included in it. Then, Are you man enough is a tough lovin's track. Love see no Color, is the ultimate dance club track. My last favorite is, Supeman, which is the best R&B song on RED HOT. I love this album, the party never stops!!!
