Apparently there's nothing in Kabbalah that disallows sweaty, head-spinningly good dance music, because here comes a flame-haired Madonna hawking a dozen songs' worth: Confessions on a Dance Floor darts seamlessly from Madge's early days, when she emerged as the genre's enduring darling, through the political, kiddie, and acoustic pap that drove a wedge between her and early adopters of the fingerless glove look. Songs like the pop-leaning "Jump" and first single "Hung Up"--an adrenaline drip on high that, like many of these tracks, will inspire mild shame among those who've thrilled to the much thinner disco-dusted outpourings of younger divas recently--represent both a return to form and an unmistakable march into the future. "Get Together" is a sonic freak-out in the best sense; "Push" traffics in gut-level futuristic trance; and "Forbidden Love" loops in '80s blips and bleeps for a follow-me-into-the-past effect that's both neo and retro. For all the image-affirming innovations here, though, these confessions find Madonna framed in her share of reflective moments too. "Was it all worth it/How did I earn it?" she asks on "How High," a song featuring vocoder. "Nobody's perfect/I guess I deserve it," comes the answer. A later lyrical inquiry is left for the listener to judge: "Does this get any better?" Madonna wants to know. But that opens the door to a dizzying proposition. Few of us would have guessed, after all, that it got this good. --Tammy La Gorce
Album Description
On Confessions of a Dance Floor, Madonna, the most popular and significant female artist in pop music, returns unapologetically to her roots. A stunning blend of musical styles with one foot in early disco and the other pointed toward the future, Confessions On A Dance Floor "is all about having a good time straight through and non-stop," says the Material Mom, who co-wrote and co-produced every track. For Madonna and music fans everywhere, the all-dance, no-ballad Confessions on a Dance Floor is a welcome guilty pleasure.

4 stars for the album, 1 for the attitude.......2007-06-30
I apologize in advance for going against the grain. The album is fine and has a lot of catchy tunes; not quite up there with Ray of Light, but okay. And let me give credit where credit is due (I don't own this album, but my friend Angela and her husband Jon always have it on in the background whenever I visit)---Madonna's vocals sound better than ever; I don't know if it's training or technology, but her voice is clear and resonant. However, I need to vent about the follies of Madonna, not the album.
M's father lives in Northern Michigan, and M deigns to visit him on a fairly regular basis. For a person who claims to be enlightened and in the know regarding spiritual matters, I think Madonna still has a long way to go. I've heard from first-hand accounts that she can treat others unkindly and even rudely (giving people the bird and verbally manhandling the owner of a lakefront house when she rented the place); this maltreatment extends to her own husband (a man who chartered a boat for the couple said she did nothing but talk her husband down the entire time, but Guy apparently took it in stride). In my book, this does not sound like enlightened behavior, much less an elightened or happy person. To those of us who aren't steadfast fans, she can come off as self-righteous, abrasive, and pathologically self-absorbed (in truth, I've had my own days of self-absorption, but at 34, I'm moving beyond that unhealthy frame of mind). She seems to be religiously confused/deluded--conflating and twisting religious symbols and ideologies until they become mumbojumbo (this remark is not against Cabalism, as I don't know enough about it to have an informed opinion). Until she actually IS practicing enlightenment, i.e., treating others with kindness and respect, regardless of who they are (famous or obscure), I wouldn't consider her a spiritual guru, but an entertainer who has a very unique and elaborate way of compensating for underlying low self-esteem.
As much as I dislike Madonna's current mindset, I am appreciative that she's helping children in Africa. That charity is enlightenment---if only she could carry that out in other areas of her life...But I thought it inappropriate for Mad'a to invite an 80-year-old man in frail health (the pope) to see her concert, knowing that the provocative images would be disturbing to him. And then to justify it with the fact that some of the profits go to charity. That's like when the senate tries to pass a bill that has a few reasonable, helpful things on it with several irrational, invasive measures on it, the bad ideas trying to use the coattails of the good ideas.
Sorry, I just needed a venue to vent about this woman. (I recognize that I am in the wrong to speak harshly about another human being, and I also recognize that I may be wrong about Mad's character, especially as I've yet to walk a mile in her Prada shoes.) I believe that Mad'a can find a new, better way to feel a sense of importance, at no one else's expense. I think Dale Carnegie's straightforward book, How to Win Friends and Influence People, can help her a whole lot more than her confusion with mysticism and incomplete enlightenment. Or if she still wants to stick with the spiritual, she can consider Solomon's wisdom: All is vanity; Our souls are restless until they reside in You, O Lord. And another equally brilliant insight from Solomon: Indeed, before You the whole universe is as a grain from a balance or a drop of morning dew come down upon the earth; For You can do all things and overlook the sins of men that they may repent; For You love all things that are, and loathe nothing that You have made, for what You have hated You would not have fashioned, and how could a thing remain had it not been called forth from You? But You spare all things because they are Yours, O Lord and Lover of souls. (My dad was actually brought to tears when I shared this passage from the Book of Wisdom with him, and I also get choked up whenever I repeat it.)
This is a WONDERFUL WONDERFUL album!.......2007-06-27
One of her very best, a true GEM. From start to finish this album has it all and will MAKE you a fan, if you're not.
I wish I could add more stars.
JC.......2007-04-23
OK, honestly, I've never, ever written a review before, but I was compelled to do so with Confessions On The Dance Floor, and Madonna in general. My later teen years were all about the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, and the "rock legends" brewing in the mid-70s. Madonna came a bit later in my early adult years, her early works I found her to be very bubble-gum pop (appealing primarily to 13 year old teenage girls). During her "Like A Virgin" era I found her cute, with catchy music, and I even bought the album, but I never thought she'd amount to anything beyond the "fad of the moment". Ha ha, boy was I wrong!
Today I consider Madonna to be among the greatest Legends in rock/or pop. She's right up there with Elvis and the Beatles, and she deserves her place among them. In many ways, her talent surpasses theirs (I probably be shot with that remark, but I truly believe it to be so).
As an artist Madonna has always been totally involved with every aspect of her own career, so the end results give you nearly 100% MADONNA, as opposed to other end results that are 50% artist/50% producer, if you understand my meaning here. Madonna not only wrote the majority of her songs, but she also co-produced them, and was totally involved with the making of each and every one of her songs ~ And with her enormous output during her 25-plus year career, there aren't too many unlikeable songs.
Confessions On A Dance Floor is no exception. It is another Madonna creation that takes us back to Madonna's earlier "dance" songs. It fits in perfectly with any of her other works. It's a great record. And, unlike most other artists who have aged 20-plus years since their hey-dey, Madonna's voice sounds as lush and beautiful as it ever did ~ She looks just as good, if not better, as well. Madonna definitely has aged well!
Although I was never into Madonna "the person" so much (as I was with some of the Eagles, and most definitely Stevie Nicks), I was, on the other hand, totally into Madonna's music. She has few peers when it comes to the quality and quantity of her professional output (excepting perhaps Elton John, Paul McCartney or Bob Dylan - But each of these artists had at least 15-20 years head start on her).
Madonna has earned, and most definitely deserves her place as the most successful female artist in history, and I cannot imagine her ever losing that title.
It's nice to see her career is still a work-in-progress. I pray we continue to hear more of Madonna in the coming years. Nothing she has put out yet has been disappointing. She definitely knows how to make great records!
Nice collection........2007-04-08
Good mix of dance oriented songs. Madonna is great for keeping up with the current style of music.
Shake your Bitty. I mean, um, Booty.......2007-03-17
Whatever you think of "Confessions"---and this latest one is all about the same funky, bumpy, shake-your-moneymaker glamor-pop, club-strafing stuff that Madonna has brewed up her entire career, no more, no less---whatever you think about the beat, the vocals, the lyrics, you have to admit Madonna is a generous artist.
But wait, before we get to that: when you play this CD backwards (you can only do it with one of those modern, um, thingies, and they're hard to find but well worth it) you'll hear Madonna's confessions. They are:
1) "I'm a Kabbalist! Betcha don't know what that is!"
2) "I have feathery seventies hair! All you girls should get it, it's the latest thing! It makes me wanna shake that thang, shake it shake it shake it shake it SHAKE THAT THANG, SHAKE DAT BOOTY!"
3) "I went to Africa and all Guy Ritchie got was this lousy African child."
4) "Does this leotard make my butt look fat?"
5) "I'm just a squirrel, on the dance floor, lookin' for a Nut, to shake your Butt, to make you SHAKE IT SHAKE IT SHAKE DAT THANG, SHAKE IT ALL NIGHT!"
It's all good, though. As usual, Madonna just rocks it up old school all night long and shakes DAT booty, yo. Word. Straight up.
OK, back to the point: bottom line, Madonna is a generous artist. After all, it was awful nice of her to let her grandma strike a pose on the album cover.

Stunning album that was seriously underrated. .......2007-05-24
A cracking album that shot straight to No 1 in the UK and bursts with Michael's anger and vitriol. His voice is just amazing. Check out Ghosts/Is it Scary, This Time Around and the remixed Scream and see what I mean. Powerful stuff that's also incredibly energising. While I was formerly not a big fan of dance music the reworked tracks are treated in such a brilliant way that I am coverted.Pulsating. Recommended.
Cream always flows to the top !.......2006-08-12
The greatest individual star of all times, if not at last of the last 3 decades, and a other and an other 3 to come, he is just as big as the Beatles if not bigger as he has to do it on his own.
I, along with the court of justice do believe Micheal does not have a bad bone in his body, the fact that he needs kids around him is perfectly natural, because kids are sincere, this is wat he Michael and eveyone else needs to stay in touch with reality.
Thanks Michael for all the happy memories your music has brought us and hopefully will for a long time to come.
Who's Bad ?

Michael Jackson's Dance on The Blooded Floor: 2 stars.......2006-07-18
As Michael Jackson ventured on the second leg of the HIStory World Tour in 1997, the EP Blood On The Dancefloor was released perhaps in order to capitalize on Jackson's success in Europe. His HIStory album had experienced enormous success in Europe, yet America did not embrace the album as warmly as Europe had. Jackson's popularity in Europe was cemented as the first single Blood On The Dancefloor reached no. 1 on the English single chart, while the album enjoyed success in both England and the rest of Europe.
Blood On The Dancefloor is mainly to be regarded as an EP or a remix album, consisting of 5 ordinary songs and 8 remixes. The title track and the first single Blood On The Dancefloor is a funky up-tempo song with a fusion of keyboard and teasing synthesizers. Despite being released as the opening single, the song was hardly among Jackson's finest material. In fact, Blood On The Dancefloor even sounded dated in 1997 and it has certainly not aged very well. I always found that the song bore a resemblance to the Dangerous album in terms of sound. Perhaps the material on the Blood on the Dancefloor album was written for that particular album or during the same time period. However, the gruelling theme continues as the song Morphine reveals a character completely obsessed with the drug. The soft and hunting verses are a contrast to the sturdier choruses, yet surprisingly it works quite well. Superfly Sister is Michael Jackson's attempt to simulate Prince; however the repetitive, dull baseline is an unwelcome addition. Similar to the lead single, Superfly Sister suffers from the syndrome of ¨dated-ness¨. Ghosts and Is It Scary are enjoyable songs; however they are not among Jackson's greatest works. Notably, Is It Scary is a lovely track especially due to the shift between the soft verses and the tougher choruses. I considered it the best song among the 5 ordinary songs on the album. The remaining 8 songs/remixes are a Tour De Force of dance remixes. Generally, I do not like remixes, however the remix of 2 Bad, Scream-Louder and HIStory are not half-bad. Yet the remixes of the remaining songs leave a lot to be desired.
Blood On The Dancefloor is primarily an indulgence for hardcore Michael Jackson fans. The few ordinary songs are pleasant, however they are not on par with Michael Jackson's back-catalogue. If you like remixes in generally, I am positive the remixes on the album would surely appeal to you. If you have recently discovered Michael Jackson's music, I would advise you to purchase Number Ones or The Essential Michael Jackson in order to fully grasp the back-catalogue of Jackson.
Overall Grade: 4.0/10
RED BLOODED MONSTER--JACKO.......2006-07-16
I LIKE JACKSON SINCE THE DAYS OF THRILLER.AT THAT TIME I WAS A KID AND USED TO JUMP OFF MY FEET WHENEVER I GOT CHANCE TO LISTEN TO HIM.
THIS ALBUM DO NOT HAVE QUANTITY BUT THE THING IS THAT THIS HAS QUALITY ONLY ONE SINGLE--BOTDF IS SUFFICIENT TO MAKE THIS ALBUM WORTH A WHILE
GO GET THIS ALBUM AND BE PROUD TO HAVE SUCH COMPILATIONS
great!! .......2005-12-12
Blood on the dance floor is mainly a remix album of Michael Jackson's HIStory songs.
Well, the thing is that I don't like remixes but there is one that's definitely good. That's the remix of track 'HIStory'.
Now on to the new stuff. MJ really did well by choosing 5 new tracks because it convinced me that his every song is different and innovative.
BOTDF, as fans often call it, has the
title track on it: this is an echo-filled, strong, blood-red composition of dance with a bit of techno, soul and rock. This is unique if you believe me.
I enjoyed it through a whole summer when I watched
the video for it every day!
MJ proves that he is a good and.. an even better dancer. A real surprise. Even a friend of mine who is far from being an MJ-fan, told me that he finds MJ a better dancer than he'd done before.
SUPERFLY SISTER is a rap-like but still strangely soulful track with a catchy beat and a great 'east coast' feeling I like very much. It's got a message, listen up!
GHOSTS is a great r&b song that is solid, consistent and you can easily get hooked on the melody. The video is awesome, too. I bet!
IS IT SCARY: brother of the previous one. Jackson's best vocal achievement since 1995's 'Smile' and before 2001's 'Unbreakable'. An r&b-based song that grows to a pop hymn - without a hymnical feature.
MORPHINE: This is I think MJ's most unique song ever, quite the 'Musicology' for him. This is fully composed & ordered by him, he even plays the instruments.
The song mixes an acid and steely beat with innovative vocal elements of metal and even a Jackson-style rap. So a closed composition emerges.
I hated Morphine first. But now I see it as a kind of masterpiece.
OK. Don't buy it. It's mess.
But I bet you still do. Enjoy!

Customer Reviews:
This is such a excellent CD and Fighting Spirit is Great!.......2007-03-22
Don't Listen to the 1 star reviews they just hate Madonna and have not heard the album at all you can tell from their reviews. Nothing about the album but the artist Madonna. Now for a review of each song.
Hung Up: Great song which samples Gimme Gimme Gimme A Man after Midnight the 1979 hit my ABBA. There is one part in this song where it slows down and you can hear 80's sound more pronounced and you hear a clock ticking then going off with another alarm clock going off at the same time, very clever. It smoothly moves into the next song.
Get Together: The beginning sounds like Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper. She sings "Can we get together I really want to be with you" The songs gets a little fast toward the middle with again amazing 80's sounds blended in while she is singing. It ends the same way it beginns.
Sorry: She says Sorry in 5 different languages and you hear in the background "I heard it all before" repeated numerous times with each time it gets louder and she sings "I don't want to hear, I dont want to know, please dont say your sorry". She also sings "don't explain yourself cause talk is cheap" great words. Towards the end she sings forgive in a few different languages then in English. This is one of my favorite tracks and is supposed the second single.
Future Lovers: Very different sound from the whole album. This one was produced by Mirwais Ahmadzai who is credited for producing her Music and American Life album. She sings this songs in a very seductive voice and sings "would you like to try and come with me". She sings "give me evidence of this brilliance" referring to the love. This has a futuristic disco feel to it and the synthesizers they use do wonders for this song. This is also very dancebale track and one of my favorites and I hope it becomes a single too. This type of sound puts you in a trance. The music goes into I love New York and you can hear a little of Ray Of Light while blends into the next tune.
I Love New York: My favorite track. This is by far the most danceable track on this album. The beats are very intense and has a rock feel to it. This song is brilliant. The lyrics are funny. Madonna sings " I don't like cities but I like New York other places make me feel like a dork" At the end you hear cop sirens going off. She sings this song with an attitude and near the end she sings " get off of my street" several times, its just great!!
Let It Will Be: Oddly titled track beginns with the violin and is very similar to the beginning of Papa Don't Preach from the True Blue album. She sings about success and fame. The chorus part is great and I love this song.
Forbidden Love: This is the slowest track on the album but is not a ballad. This title can also be found on Madonna's Bedtime Stories Album but this one is a lot better. The vocoder is used and she sings "forbidden love are we supposed to be together" and then sings it without the vocoder. This song is also very emotional and sad. The ending ends with numbers being count backwards from 5 and during each one a love line is said. This is just a beautiful song. This songs slowly blends into Jump. The way is blends is is pure genious.
Jump: Starts extacly like the beginning of West End Girls by the Pet Shop Boys. This is just a fun song and she sings "Are you Ready to jump, just take my hand get ready to jump. When she sings these lines you seriously want to get up and jump. She also sings "I work and I fight till I find a place of my own" referring back to her early years in the 80's.
How High: The vocoder is used again and it has a robotic sound to it in the beginning. Madonna sings and questions her fame again as she did in Let It Will Be and sings" was it all worth it" and "should I carry on will it matter when I'm gone". This song has grown on me a lot and has a great beat to it. It was also produced by Mirwais and Bloodshy and Avant.
Issac: A masterpiece by itself. It starts of like similar to sounds you would hear in a lullaby story and then you hear a rabbi's chanting in the back. This song is obviously Kabbalah related. Madonna sings "wrestle with your darkness angels call your name can you hear what they are saying will you ever be the same" then you hear the chorus and the chanting again then she sings other versus and the chanting and the chorus follows through again. This songs usues quite a few sounds mixed in well expecially towards the end. There is a pounding sound an a few times near the end it's amazing then the chorus. It ends with a man talking.I find this song brilliant and hope it becomes a single. This track is the longest track a little more than 6 minutes, its brilliant though.
Push: Another genious pop blend from Issac. This song has a good hip hop feeling to it and if you listen to it it does have a little rap in it. Madonna sings "You push me" then in a hip hop rap fashion sings" to go the extra mile" and "when it's difficult to smile". This song she sings to her husband Guy Ritchie. The chorus is the best part and has such a happy feeling to it and is similar to "Don't Tell Me" from her Music Album.
Like It Or Not: A nice song to end this brilliant album. She sings "this is who I am you can like it or not you can love me or leave cause I'm never gonna stop". This song is mid tempo and not really fast. It ends beautifully with the guitars. Overall I give this album an A+. I dont skip any song. I would highly recommend it if you really want to dance hard!! Also don't forget to check out Madonna's American Life album a very underrated album indeed!
Fighting Spirit: On my god, I love this song so much. It has a good message "don't let it get you down" telling people dont ever let things get you down it is a mid tempo song with excellent use of the electronica sound. It would be worth getting this CD just for that song you have got to hear it it's simply amazing.
This Special Edition also includes a pretty journal book which has Madonna's own writing in it from the song Like It Or Not, each part of it is a lyric from that song and is written at the bottom of each page and a few animations are drawn referring back to the song LION ( listen to the song and you will understand what I mean), the rest of the journal is blank so you can write your own confessions, a nice picture book from the COAD period where she also writes her own confessions which is not from any of the songs on COAD or anyone other song at all that she has written, and it gives us the definitions of what the word confession means and a one month trial membership to ICON which I think is great. You can see if you are really interested or if it's worth subscribing to just for a trial period. Overall great package. Fighting Spirit of course is another reason you should buy it because it is not included in the original COAD and as mentioned it is so good and it will help you out especially the lyrics in it if you are feeling down, had a bad day, or just feeling under the weather lately.
A Different Kind of Madonna.......2007-03-12
Madonna deserves a lot of credit for her resilience in the music industry and the ability to reinvent herself in a different style with this CD. "Confessions on a Dance Floor" is saturated with synthesizer technology and pulsing beats; all you need is the disco ball and strobe lights in your living room.
I have listened to this CD repeatedly and each time, the constant electronic groove is entrancing. The music by itself is worth a 5-star rating but some of the lyrics seem to possess a mundane prose. I mean, I wonder if Madonna actually sang these lyrics from "I Love New York" with a straight face:
"I don't like cities but I like New York.
Other places make me feel like a dork".
I know I laughed when I first heard it. In the end, it's all good, though.
I rated this CD at 4.5 stars. The packaging/blank notepad-type booklet that came with the Special Edition didn't seem necessary, because it's really about the music.
My wife is a die-hard Madonna fan and she loves this!.......2007-03-09

disco nigths vol. 8.......2006-01-09
The tracks "Brazil, She Works Hard For The Money, Ain't That Enough for You and Hot Stuff are surprising. Hot Stuff is the 12" version. I was expecting that "Makin' It-by David Naughton would be longer but it's not. Hopefully, a longer version of this can be found in future releases.
some surprises on this volume.......2005-08-09
While this volume lacks a large number of 12" versions as promised, it has a couple of goodies. for starters, Somebody's Watching Me is mislabeled on the case as being the 3:57 radio verion. It's not. It's the full 4:58 12" version!!! Plus, you also get the radio remix of Michael Sembello's Maniac, which sounds very different from both the Flashdance soundtrack version and the original 12" mix by Jellybean (although I believe this mix is by Jellybean also). Track times are:
1. Somebody's Watching Me (4:58)
2. Maniac (4:13) (7" remix)
3 Makin It (3:08) (7")
4. San Francisco (5:27)
5. Brazil (5:12)
6. Bridge Over Troubled Water (3:18) (7")
7. Can't Get Enough of You Love Baby (4:31) (7")
8. Hot Stuff (6:46)
9. Thank God It's Friday (4:32) (7")
10. Take Me Home (3:26) (7")
11. She Works Hard for the Money (5:18) (album length, not 12" extended version)
12. ain't that enough for you (5:55)
review of dance floor hits from josephine yong.......2005-06-10
this cd is worth $4.99 and there is good song you can dance to the tune "MAKIN' IT - David Naughton. but the rest of the songs needs to be replace with ther songs.
Eu quero este CD.......2004-02-23
A música "making it" é um marco em minha vida..preciso dela !
Vcs poderiam dizer se existe em outro CD ???

Dance Floor Hits Disco Nights Vol. 8.......2003-09-16
The cover says, "Extended long play club versions!", but only 5 out of 12 songs are longer than 5 minutes. I've heard the album version of "Makin' It" (the reason why I bought this compilation) and this ain't it. The long version is at least 5 minutes and this is 3:08. This version of "Bridge over Troubled Water" is only 3:18, but the mix I already have is at least 9 minutes.
Save your money if you like long play.

Finally, the U.S. sees a domestic release of Fatboy Slim's On the Floor at the Boutique, hands down one of the most thrilling, addictive DJ mix albums ever released. Recorded live in 1998 at the Big Beat Boutique (epicenter of the mid- to late-'90s big-beat movement), Norman Cook, a.k.a. Fatboy Slim, takes the listener on a fascinating, diverse tour of four-on-the-floor sounds. What's always made Cook so great is the way that he seamlessly blends seemingly incongruous sounds to create righteously cool, shiny new beats; he truly is the trainspotting vinyl freak with an uncanny talent for creating accessible dance-floor shakers built of weird components. Take track 4--who'd have thought a spry blue-beat ska sample, an ELO riff, phat beats, a few stray horn riffs, and a sped-up Jungle Brothers vocal track would be one of the coolest things heard all year? --Mike McGonigal
Customer Reviews:
A Fatboy virgin's first adventure.......2005-11-02
WOW!! This was my first Fatboy CD. I had never even heard of him before buying. I was bored musically and looking for something new, different, and good. Talk about a bullseye.
I consider 'Boutique', to be one of the best CD's I've ever bought. Seamless music melding with infectious beats and glorious upbeat tempo make this a fantastic party album. Buy it, borrow it, download it, whatever it takes to experience this Fatboy masterpiece
Not all good.......2004-02-16
I admit there are some really good tracks on this album (specifically #1, 9, 10, and 15-19), but the rest are just OK/border on annoying. Sadly, I'll probably get 10 million people clicking the No, this review was not helpful button because I don't give every album a 5 star review. Oh well. Bottom Line: Buy this only if you are a diehard Fatboy Slim fan. Otherwise, just download the tracks I listed.
keep dat funk ALIVE!.......2002-01-16
The legendary Big Beat Boutique in Brighton housed some great artists (like Lo Fidelity Allstars, Bentley Rhythm Ace, and of course Fatboy Slim), but in 2000, it was shut down. So Norman Cook a.k.a Fatboy Slim threw together this live mix in retrospective of this great club. On this CD, you will find funky rhythm assaults, bouncing samples, drunken drum loops, and, of course, a LOT of funk. You'll be shakin it up to some of these swelling trax. I thought it really got great from track 6 to 9, where it reaches it's climax of sonic quality, topping off with DJ Tonka's essential "Phunky". Fatboy throws on a variety of records, from hip-hop / trip-hop ("Because I Got It Like That" and "Deaf Mike's Throwdown") to funky classics ("Apache" and "Post Punk Progression") and just plain great songs ("The World's Made Up Of This And That" and "Phun-Ky"). A great CD, be sure to pick it up on the way to a party as it appeals to most people and is great to dance to.
Not what you'd expect..........2001-12-03
When I fist bought this CD and listened to it I was a bit shocked. This was not the Fatboy Slim that I knew. However, after listening to this CD a few times I was completely in love. This is not "You've Come a Long Way, Baby", so don't buy it if that's what you're looking for. However, if you're looking to listen to some incredible music just pop this booty- licious CD in the player. Track 4 is classic. Oh Norman...what can't you do?
a-freaking-mazing.......2001-05-16
This album busts a better move than your mother after her breakdancing lesson. But seriously folks, how this CD rocks! May possibly lead to booty-shaking...

A good collection of club tracks.......2007-02-17
This collection, unlike a lot of others on the market, boasts excellent sound transfers and an intelligent selection of genuine club tracks. It does however try to cover a number of bases in it's musical choices and as a result you may feel, like me, more fondly towards some tracks than others - in my case, I could easily have done without 'Whistle Bump', 'Do Your Dance' and Freddie James' rubbish 'Hollywood'. The other tracks however are very welcome on CD, especially Venus Dodson's little remembered 'Night Rider'. Overall this CD shows that there are some people out there that really care about the music. Well done and let's hope that this is the beginning of a series.
predominantly all extended play versions!!!.......2005-09-04
some rare goodies can be gotten on this disc, and most are the longest versions available, although "Here Comes That Sound Again" is only half its original vinly length. Track times:
1. here comes that sound again (8:52)
2. do your dance (9:17)
3. victim (8:31)
4. i caught your act (4:30)
5. whistle bump (7:43)
6. found a cure (7:02)
7. dancer (8:27)
8. forbidden love (8:23)
9. night rider (6:43)
10. hollywood (8:15)
rare classic disco.......2005-07-07
This collection exemplifies vintage disco, not the disco music
that was big on pop charts, but rather tracks which were most
frequently played at nightclubs where dancing was popular. Some
of the tracks in this wonderful compilation (ie. "Forbidden Love" by Madleen Kane and "Night Rider" by Venus Dodson) only
made the Club Charts, whereas others, such as Ashford and Simpson's "Found A Cure", received airplay on the Pop Charts. Nevertheless, if you are looking for rare, refreshing, danceable, and pure disco from the late 1970s, then this CD is for you!
Very Dissapointed.......2004-08-19
Though the tracks on this CD are fine, I was not happy with the product. Each track has a 2-second delay in between... so the music does not seque into each other. Not at all what I was expecting.
You need this!.......2004-05-12
This is a superb collection of full-length disco classics - none of your disappointing radio edits and definitely none of the usual rubbish that appears on every other second-rate collection. Stunning! Why didn't they make this a series - or would that have been tempting fate?

Any comp with the fabulous Higsons on it is worth the price of admission! Impossible to find their import vinyl and rarely are they mentioned anywhere, anytime. But they were a fun bunch that I had the pleasure of seeing at a club in Queens, NY around 83-84. Buy it for them & then search their stuff on Amazon. Especially their (semi) hit "Run You Down".

Fabulous collection of post-punk neo-romantic sinisterwave music. I love this cd.
I would only say that heaven 17 and human league do not belong here and that the tracks are rare and brilliant - the origins of electropop

my favorite single of the year.......2002-12-20
Sophie rules. You won't find a more catchy, ruthless dance pop record all year. Kylie - get out of the way.
Bring it to America!.......2002-10-10
I also discovered Sophie Ellis Bextor while in Europe this summer (2002). She was all over the radio in the French Riviera, and the MOTD track is super infectious ... I wish they played it on the radio and in clubs here. Oh well.
Not the remix.......2002-07-14
I couldn't wait to get this CD. I saw the video in Germany and fell in love with Sophie. First track: As expected--colorful synthesizers and a great disco beat. Second track: a bit futuristic, which is why some consider her to be "electronica" instead of pop. Third track: The first minute is good. It builds and builds into--nothing. The synthesizers seem to be less prominent in this version. In the middle of the song is a repetitous saxaphone and trumpet lick and a walking beat that doesnt enhance Sophie, but overtakes her. If you dont like that part, you may not like track 3. Fourth track: What I thought would be an audio verion on the video, turned out to be THE VIDEO ON CD ROM!!!!! While I was disappointed with the remix version in track 3, the video version more than makes up for it. It would have been 5 stars if I liked the remix. If you havent seen the video, I would definitely suggest getting this CD. Im thrilled to have a copy of it.
Fun song, great video!.......2002-06-08
I recently became familiar with Sophie Ellis Bextor while travelling in Italy, where "Murder on the Dancefloor" (MOTD) is always on the radio, TV, and being played at the disco. MOTD is witty and memorable...a fine showcase for S.E.B.'s disco diva voice and wry style. The video on this disc is in Quick Time format (self-installing player software included, if you don't have it already), and is the main reason I chose this single. It's a great little video. The concept is a ballroom dance contest that S.E.B. will do anything to win (including murder).
W, O, W!!!.......2002-05-13
This single is the best buy of a lifetime! This is the first time I actually give a single 5 stars, but how well deserved! Everything is perfect, the lyrics of the title track are exquisite, the music is awesome enough to make any composer jaelous, the art direction of the CD is very well done... Sophie Ellis-Bextor has a lovely voice, soft but expressive, and seems to be very strong-headed. The video is one of the best you will ever see, if not the best, you will enjoy watching it over, over and over again, especially if you like dancing and trying new tricks...
The remix of the title track is very interesting, and the B-side "Never Let Me Down" sounds a little bit like a 80's song... Again, very innovative and naive à la Bextor...
Furthermore, the whole "Murder On The Dancefloor" concept is very humoristic, with a touch of class... Sweet, refreshing and perfect...

Red Bull Energy on CD.......2004-12-22
I have been a fan of RHV since "Shut the F*ck Up and Dance." I got a chance to see him live last year in Wisconsin. It is true that his mixes are all high energy. This CD is no different. It's like a Red Bull on CD, it gives you wings.
Although I am partial to his later mixes than early ones, it is easy for me to say this is easily RHV's best album to date. Many other DJs I talk to believe this CD is too "produced." While I agree that it is very produced, you have to look at the purpose of the album. The album is supposed to make you wanna move. Even if you are in your car. If people are looking for a straight live mix they won't find it here. Average listeners who are not DJ's will not be able to tell the difference. It will just sound very precise and complex, which it is. This album breezes through at least 42 different songs split into 30 tracks over the course of 60 minutes. At times there are three or more different tracks going on at once. I give this album five stars because of the production that went into it. There are a few remixes that RHV has credit for along with a few RHV original songs on this album. I think other people should give him more credit for the additional work that went into this mix. He did not just mix a bunch of other people's music here without putting finishing touches on it. There was actually some blood, sweat, and tears before the mix even got started in the studio.
Over all the album does start off a bit slower than his other mixes. I guess that was just his formula this time. He wants to nibble on your ear and get you warmed up a little before he sticks it in. The CD keeps high energy all the way through with massive build ups and incredible intensity.
The drops and mixes are sealed tight. There is a music video which is OK, but that is just extra. There is literally NOT a dull moment on this CD. If you are new to house music I would recommend this CD. If you have never heard of RHV before and listen to house, you have been munching on small potatoes with no gravy and leaving the juicy steak on the stove.
RHV DOES IT AGAIN!!!.......2004-07-19
I would have to say that RHV's brand new mix CD Big Floor Funk is a good CD, but not his best. It's not as good as his other CD's like Shut The F@*& Up And Dance, or Drop That Beat. It's actually just as good as Damn That Dj Made My Day. Richard is known for his quick mixing skills and smooth transition from record to record. Which makes his CD's so wonderful to listen too. This one is some what different, the difference is that Big Floor Funk has more of a live feeling to it. Which makes this CD not as smooth as other mix compilations. A perfect example is the accapellas he mixes with. It actually takes a while to get an over all feel for the CD.It does on the other hand have some great music. Like his latest single Never Let Me Down and the video that goes with it is some what out there. Or M.I.S.T vs High Contrast: 3 am, and Antione Clamarans Classika. This CD is a good one but again if your looking for his best work look to pick up a copy of STFUAD. Believe me this is one great pick to add to your house selection but again don't expect a flawless mix just a good one.
RHV DOES IT AGAIN!!.......2004-07-19
FEEL THE FUNK!!!.......2004-06-11
This CD is truly amazing. It starts you off and doesn't let you go 'till the end!!! Yes, this is a little different from his previous comps but every DJ's style changes over time as their sound matures.
Anyways, "Big Floor Funk" still has all the funk and beats (even a couple of DnB tracks) to get you moving albeit it's not as thumping as his older stuff. Don't get mistaken though - this is still the same RHV you know and he doesn't disappoint with this one. Highly recommended!!!
Looking forward to Love Fest in Hawaii on July 31st........2004-06-04
I've seen Richard three times already. He's a great DJ and fine mother f*cker, hot!!! He never lets the crowd down when he spins live. I was a bit disappointed in this mix because I thought there was a full version of his new single featuring Electrik Children "I Said", but there's only forty seconds of it. I tried looking high and low for that single but can't find it. I listened to the CD three times without skipping. I even used it at the gym. I couldn't get into it. Nothing really captured me to start snapping my fingers or start to break some moves.
I do like that he brought back an old school track from the Jungle brothers "I'll house you" and some new school from Benny Benassai "No matter what you do".
Hey, Richard if you're reading this review. I love your previous stuff and I love watching you spin live. But I wasn't really feeling this one. But you're still the hottest DJ and you always make the people move. Look forward to seeing you @ The Love Fest in Hawaii. Email me at ltorda@hawaii.edu. Take care!!!
