Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars good house music at its best.......2000-06-27

each and every one of the tracks on this cd is a monster from the off we bounce through bingo bango from basement jaxx, slip into some very sexy maloko and before you know it there is a huge slice of miami vice all cuban rhythyms with no don johnson and not a versace shirt in site but smothered in all that's nice. this is truely a great great cd for people who love to dance it has some wonderful deeper percussive vibes that tingle the spine and wont let go - if you have a party at home or on the beach this summer pop this little belter on and watch peoples faces as they funk. good grooves all round

5 out of 5 stars "Azuli captures the Musical Magic of Miami!".......2000-06-06

Finally a Miami compilation worth listening to! Forget all the free CD's and singles packed into your Miami Music Conference gift bag. Azuli quickly and cleverly assembled this wonderful 18 track compendium of soulful slamming tunes for your ears. Forget also all the albums released throughout the summer claiming to be summer anthems, this is where it all begins.

For those that don't know, each year in March, Miami is ground central for the house music mafia: the producers, DJ's, vocalists and their hangers on looking to both make and break records. The week long festival of sun, song and sin champions a handful of "songs of the conference", anthems that serve as the soundtrack of the Miami experience. Songs catchy, clever and captivating enough that they are heard time and time again at the bar, at the club, at the lounge, by the pool and at the beach. Songs that rise above the fray destined to go on to become summer anthems. Past chart toppers includes hits by Ultra Nate, RESCUE ME by the Sun Kids and SING IT BACK/BRING IT BACK by Moloko, just to name a few.

Enough about the background, lets get on to the music. First up, Azuli and Lenny hit us with the dynamic duo, the Basement Jaxx and the original mix of BINGO BANGO. This upfront floor stomper will get everyone jumpin'. Listen for the spanish influenced melody, listen for the horn and that wonderful, wonderful chant:

"Bing, bing, bing, bing, bing, bing, bing, Bangooooooo!"

Moloko's soothing voice prevails again with THE TIME IS NOW (Francois K Vocal Mix). Next upJoey Negro teams up with Taka Boom yet again on the club mix of MUST BE THE MUSIC. This masterfully produced powerful song prevails with buildups, breakdowns and the dominating vocals of Taka Boom, as only she can!

MOCA's disco inflused HIGHER (with David Morales & fam on production) follows. Madison Ave's DON'T CALL ME BABY imports the groove from AINT NO STOPPING US NOW, with a nasal vocal style a la Crystal Waters, will have the crowd singing

"I belong to me so don't call me baby!"

One of my personal favorites Artful Dodger's Vocal Mix of Barbara Tucker featuring Daryl D'Bonneau, STOP PLAYING WITH MY MIND (Produced by Whiplash & Turner). The intro is simply marvelous! The 4/4 rhythm pumps while Barbara's vocal filters in slowly and KABOOM, Daryl comes in

"Woooooooo Time after time, Time after time . . . I ain't goin' no where!"

Barbara coos:

"You've got to love me Or leave me! Stop playin' with my mind Stop wastin' my time!"

This album is simply too good to be true! Track 7 kicks of with Ministers De La Funk featuring Jocelyn Brown BELIEVE. Who can forget that guitar riff intro. 'Nuff said!

If for no other reason, cop this album for track 8, Afro Medusa's PASILDA. Wow! Produced by Nick Bennett, Patrick Cole and Isabel Fructuoso, PASILDA will infect you with the groove. Listen for the breakdown at 3minutes 30 seconds into the song, the buildup is un-believeable! Then the beat drops! Guaranteed to rock any crowd!

Romain and Danny Krivit (resident NYC's Body & Soul) douse us with the delightful PHILLY GROOVE on track 10. Lenny Fontana seamelessly blends PHILLY GROOVE into another intrumental delight originally heard on Tony Humphries Net Mixes, SUNDAY SHOUTIN' by Johnny Corporate.

This album simply contains too much good music! DOWN DOWN DOWN by the Gambafreaks, RISE by the SOUL PROVIDERS and a song canned at NYC's Body & Soul and Louie Vega's DANCE RITUAL club nights JAGUAR by DJ Rolando aka the AZTEC MYSTIC.

Azuli presents Miami 2000, THE compilation album of the summer!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Michael Mcdonald \ Motown distant lover.......2003-11-05

Michael McDonald has proved himself on this song. His own touch just made the song so moving and in many ways better than the original by Marvin Gaye. I have always loved his music from way back with the Doobies. Michael has really out done himself on this entire cd. With the sexy sax, strong bass, his smooth and soft touches of the piano and his raspy yet sexy voice really makes this motown cd his very own. He has proved that he has the voice to sing any type of music and make it a hit....

4 out of 5 stars Good comeback CD for Michael McDonald.......2003-07-18

Although I can think of other Motown songs that I would have substituted for some of the songs on this CD, the more I listen to this the more I appreciate what Michael McD has done. "I Heard it Through the Grapevine", "I Believe (When I Fall in Love)", "All in Love is Fair", "I Want You" and "Distant Lover" are excellent versions that Mike has given his own special touch. The gem of the CD though is "Too High" (only found on the import CD as a bonus track). This is far and away the best track on the disc. It's a very good CD and will bring back many fond memories of these great songs of yesteryear. I hope that it's very successful and that Mike decides to do Motown #2 and include: I Can't Help Myself; I'll Be Doggone; Hitch Hike; Pretty Little Baby; Come See About Me; When the Lovelight Starts Shining...; What's Going On; Shake Me, Wake Me (When it's over..) and others.... This CD is worth your money!

5 out of 5 stars Michael McDonald is phenomenal on Motown.......2003-06-25

Please don't believe that "a music fan" would know better than McDonald himself which songs he should chose to sing. This is a really wonderful, beautiful cd! NPR's Bob Edwards recently did an interview with McDonald on Motown (broadcasted on 6/24). Check out ...
to read up and listen to McDonald playing away some of the Motown songs in the NPR studio. It's fantastic stuff. Michael McDonald has one of the most beautiful voices of all time. This is a great cd to chill out with and musically spoken it is absolutely sound. Of course everything depends on personal taste, but people who like soul/jazz (and maybe have never heard Michael before), give it a try! You will not be disappointed.

3 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Set.......2003-06-12

Michael Mcdonald still has the Chops at knocking out Songs. His Voice works well with most of the songs here.He adds His Own touch to many of the tracks here.He has never gotten that One Solo Album to Fully Showcase His whole Range.but this Album comes pretty close at sealing the Deal.He still has One of the Baddest Flows in the Whole Industry still to me.

5 out of 5 stars Right On!!.......2003-05-30

The man did it again!! He captures Motown like no other. I only wish this could have been a two-disc collaboration. McD just gets better as the years pass.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A true collector's item........2003-07-30

This CD is by no means a greatest hits collection of Jean's work but rather a compilation of her duets and collaborations with others. It covers almost her entire career and as such is very much a collector's item.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Greats.......2003-04-30

This album solidifies her status as one of the greatest all-time interpreters of rhythm & blues and jazz. These magnificent pairings are a must have for any serious music collector and show exactly why she is one of the most sought after vocalists in jazz and r & b circles.

5 out of 5 stars I've been looking for this one for the longest........2007-05-26

I'm so glad to have finally gotten a hold of these remixes, particulary "Shake your body down to the ground". I couldn't find that remix anywhere. "Blame it on the boogie" was slammin' as well. I think the Jackson's made their best music during this time period. That's just me personally.

5 out of 5 stars Greatest music i have ever heard........2004-05-04

Yes,this is my personal opinion but this cd has some of the best music i have ever heard. The last track TORTURE is so good that it leaves me shaking with happiness.Amazing talent amazing group,i wish i could have more of there music especially from Japan.

3 out of 5 stars Wow!.......2002-08-04

Jacksons are cool, but I swear "Torture" is the album version... well, there's "Blame It on the Boogie" that saves the day.

3 out of 5 stars Pretty Good but when is their gonna be a Best of?.......2000-08-24

The Jacksons had alot of great jams.just from Destiny&triumph alone not to mention classics like show you the way to go.this set is alright I Liked The Blame it on the Boogie remixe but I want a True Greatest Hits Compilations of this Group.the Mixes are so/so in spots.Heartbreak Hotel is still one of the baddest jAMS THAT Michael ever did.

2 out of 5 stars Not what I expected.......2000-07-10

When I bought the CD I thought that it provided remixes for all the tracks listed. It turns out that it's only 2 of the six tracks. The other 4 are from the album version. The 2 that were remixed were "Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)" and "Blame it on the Boogie." While "Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)" was pretty good, "Blame it on the Boogie" is one of the best remixes out there.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Bobby & Steve Are The Real Deal.......2002-08-10

I've seen these guys spin many times while I was in England and they really know what they are doing. Anyone who has visited their residencies at Ministry of Sound and Bar Rumba knows what I mean. This cd comp is on point! Excellent mixing and great sequencing. Disc One is my favorite of the two, but just by a narrow margin. Favorite tracks include "Special Kind Of Love", "The Music Is Everywhere" and "The Best Of Me". Pick up your copy today!

3 out of 5 stars i was expecting better.......2002-08-10

i love garage music and after having bought "garage city" (outstanding)from bobby and steve i was expecting much better. the rithim goes up but without the necessary classy melody and sounds that a garage compilation should be made of. I purchased many cd from the "ministry of sound"....my house is full of them but i still got to find "the one". I had the luck to go there few times...and what you hear on the dance floor is totally different from what they sell....over there is a dream!!!
anyway overall decent. whould be great is bobby and steve would come out with "garage city 2 "...that'll be a buy to make.

5 out of 5 stars Funky Beats, making your feets really wanna move!!.......2001-07-11

This compilation is simply outstanding...This is REAL house music with soul. Perfect party starter for every foreplay. Dance the night away guys...cause there nothing else to do, when putting this CD on.... :))

4 out of 5 stars Heaven of dancers.......2001-06-01

Actually, I'm not that much in dance music and related stuff, but I was completely stunned by this release. Albeit the beat remains essentially the same throughout the album, this really makes you want to move on the dance floor. Amazing voices combined to ultra-efficient bass parts as well as to unexpected breaks are the best qualities of all tracks. Finally, Soul Heaven could be dedicated to all the 70's disco fans who wants to reconcile with y2k's dance fashion.

4 out of 5 stars Working On Your Case - The O'Jays.......2007-01-03

Finally a collection of the early stuff. Good compilation.

      5 out of 5 stars the mighty O'JAYS - A FANTASTIC COLLECTION !!.......2006-06-15

This is classic O'jays at their best!!Those of us from Ohio and the Midwest have known about the O'Jays for a long time before the rest of the country and those of us from Cleveland and Canton consider this "our hometown group". They had hits for many years before "Back Stabbers"&" Love Train", and this album captures their best early national and regional hits . What a lot of the rest of you also don't know is that in those days, the late William Powell was also a featured lead singer in the group just as much as Eddie Levert and Walter Williams were . Why Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff didn't let him lead under their productions for Philidelphia International Records is a mystery ,because most critics at the time considered him one of the best first tenor lead singers in the country - right up there with The Miracles' Smokey Robinson, the Temptations' Eddie Kendricks, The Impressions' Curtis Mayfield, and the Imperials' Little Anthony Gourdine. You can hear William on two songs in this collection-"Let It All Out" and "Working On Your Case" Other collections have William's lead voice on The O'jays" early hit "Oh How You Hurt Me " and a partial lead on their Philidelphia International album "Survival" on the song "How Time Flies" This is a fantastic collection of their greatest early hits and an absolute MUST for any O'JAYS fan ,featuring all five original members: EDDIE LEVERT (love the hair!) WALTER WILLIAMS, (when he still had hair) , WILLIAM POWELL,(Sadly, no longer with us } BOBBY MASSEY,(Who could probably kick himself-- he left the group JUST before they hit it big } and BILL ISLES.(Why didn't he get inducted with the rest of the group into the RRHOF ? } Want to know why they're in the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME ? Get this CD !! P.S....It's true...EDDIE LEVERT didn't wan't to sing lead on "LIPSTICK TRACES...so he actually didn't! The lead vocals on the O'JAY'S mid 60's hit "LIPSTICK TRACES" were actually done by WALTER WILLIAMS. I know... I've got the video of them singing it on SHIVAREE !

5 out of 5 stars This is the real O'Jays.......2003-02-27

This CD features the original O'Jays line up from Canton, Ohio.
Eddie Lavert and Walter Williams never sounded better (even though Lavert never liked singing Lipstick Traces - it still sounds fantastic). If you are a true O'jays fan you will remember the famous album cover for "Soul Sounds" The live version of "Stand In For Love" grows on you, but I would have preferred the original (what a great song). This is just low tech singing and harmony at it's best - from some hungry guys trying to get started in the music business. Thank you U.K. - do this for The Intruders are Together album.
