Electronic guru Culprit One makes broken beats and orchestrated hip-hop-sampling-symphonies that have been mugged in some darkened alleyway. This single on the My Kung Fu label is backed with 'Aliga'& 'Electric State'. 2005.

It was a tough act to beat when Irish group The Cranberries released the follow-up to their debut disc Everybody Else Is Doing It So Why Can't We, an interesting and intimate album highlighted by the memorable hit "Linger." Critics chided that Everybody was timid in nature both musically and lyrically, but No Need to Argue quickly changed all that. The 1994-released effort was decidedly more confrontational, instantly evident by the lyrics, inspired by the Irish conflict, in their hit "Zombie." In her trademark sharp alto, frontwoman Delores O'Riordan sings, "In your head they are fighting/With their tanks and their bombs/and their bombs and their guns." Since anger is more difficult to embrace than love, many fans were initially disappointed with the tougher stuff, but those who stayed discovered a much more emotionally layered effort. --Denise Sheppard
Customer Reviews:
Epic.......2007-04-02
This is seriously a great album.
it's epically good. It's in my top ten favorites of all time.
Every song on here is awesome.
On top of it being an excellent CD everytime i hear it all I think about is the 90's...
and the 90's were awesome, especially for music.
twister: intensely irish emotion.......2007-03-09
Delores O'Riordian has a voice like no other, perfectly suited for the upfront Irish anger of this 1994 album. Single digits ahead of the St Valentine's Day accord and its imperfect afterlife, O'Riordian and the Cranberries lament--this *is* the dominant tone--the things that are wrong with families, fathers, lovers, and the hatred that has made 'the Troubles' so linkable an expression with Northern Ireland.
The front lady's severe, alto and usually unaccompanied voice drives each song forward with self-propelled force. You either love it or hate it. Not too many simply liked this album. It was one of those musical offerings that invoked strong response from across the spectrum of listeners.
I mark the album's release date (1994) as the year I arrived in England to study. It represented one of my first moments of exposure to European (sort of ) pop music and the edge that often distinguishes it from its cross-Atlantic counterpart. A decade and change later, I can still remember where I was when I first heard several of these tracks.
The album is well constructed. The first track begins with O'Riordian's famous a capella 'Doo .... doo doo doo .... Doo ... doo doo doo' entrance to the spooky 'Ode to my Family. The CD ends with the eerily gripping organ intro to 'No Need to Argue'. In between comes a lineup of tunes that together comprise the kind of album that is often called 'honest', a descriptor that often means the postponement of the kind of self restraint that works in the rest of life but is not always the domain of artistry in its awful naked truth.
If this kind of transparency is a virtue--and arguably it is--then No Need to Argue represents a kind of moral pinnacle. What carries the attempt through a dozen and one titles is O'Riordian's 'I'm-not-done-yet' persistence in emoting with that beguilingly odd voice and the Irish turn of a syllable that drives it from theme to theme. She is, after all, the only vocal thing the Cranberries have got goin'. She makes the most of a monopoly.
Meanwhile, the boys in back lay down a pretty spare groove that showcases the singer up front. This is true both on the raucous/metal end of the continuum ('Zombie') as on the violin-accompanied love song side ('Dreaming my Dreams').
All this considered, I place NO NEED TO ARGUE in the category of those landmarks albums that don't necessarily wear well by keening to the common core of changing musical tastes. Rather, it comes as an archived witness to a new and slightly revolutionary sound that gripped us momentarily and for a year or two in the mid-1990s. That's no small feat.
A step forward for O'Riordan and crew.......2006-02-11
Dolores O'Riordan undoubtedly has a beautiful voice and the band write (and play) some gorgeous melodies for her to float it atop. But the band's strength on its debut EVERYBODY ELSE IS DOING IT, SO WHY CAN'T WE? was also its biggest weakness: a wispy etherealness that overcame the album as a whole, smooshing it into 1 long daydream. There simply wasn't enough musical and emotional variety...all longing, no passion.
On this one, the band haul out some numbers with tempo and unveil a broader emotional palette. The result is a more satisfying album than EEIDISWWW was.
HIGHLIGHTS:
"Ode to my Family" is somewhat of a guilty pleasure. Its wonderful melody and alienation sentiment allow it to overcome my objections to its somewhat laughable lyrics. ("My father, my father/He liked me, oh, he liked me/Does anyone care?") "I Can't Be With You" is probably as close as the band gets to straight-ahead pop but it's a darn fine tune as O'Riordan pines after her long-gone lover ("I wanted to be the mother of your child/And now it's just farewell...") It bounces on a percussive acoustic guitar groove that soars into orbit when Noel Hogan's Nuggets-style fuzz guitar solo kicks in to close things out. "Zombie" addressed the wartorn condition of the band's native Ireland as O'Riordan took on the persona of the architects of battle, imagining how they must rationalize war to themselves. ("But you see, it's not me, it's not my family/In your head, in your head they are fighting...") It's all set to a crunchy guitar sound that would be the heaviest the band had put to disc at that point. "The Icicle Melts" finds O'Riordan lamenting the death of a young child and trying to offer hope to the grieving mother. (And she will hold him in her arms sometime/'Cause nine months is too long, too long, too long...") "Dreaming my Dreams" is poignant in its simplicity. ("If you want me I'll be here/I'll be dreaming my dreams with you..") Understated violin adds just the right touch to the song musically without veering into pathos. The title track closes things on a high note, a funeral organ the perfect accompaniment for the dead love affair dirge. It could just as well be titled "Requiem" as O'Riordan reverently recalls the love she lost.
BOTTOM LINE:
I'm not still not apt to call this one "great" as so many others are doing. But it does have enough standout tracks to say this one is worth owning since many of the best tunes did not make it onto the STARS best of compilation.
3 1/2 stars
random words/phrases, but otherwise great!.......2006-01-01
A bit creepy in my opinion! Sounds like they just threw in a bunch of words just to make it all rhyme and fit together. Take 21 for example: "You took my thoughts from me. Now I want nothing more. And did you think you. Could just take it all away. I don't think it's happening. This is what I say. Leave me alone." And then later: "Twenty One. Today. Twenty One." What's the number 21 got to do with leaving someone alone? But that's only a minor problem. Other than that, my favourite Cranberries songs are all on this CD: tracks 4, 1, 2, 3 (in that order).
Classy, Sophisticated Sophomore Effort.......2005-12-12
The Cranberries were surprise superstars when they released their debut and they cemented their success with their sophomore album No Need To Argue. This album is a mish-mash of emotions and styles, the whole album has Dolores O'Riordan's signature Irish vocals but the songs aren't folky and highland-ish. Rock is the main agenda. I was pretty surprised with the quality of this album, it is phenomenal. You could say at the moment I am expanding my tastes!! The Cranberries are truly original unlike U2 who sound so commercial and American it defies belief, The Cranberries are more true to their roots and incorporate their Irish flair within their songs.
No Need To Argue flows well and isn't interuppted with any filler tracks or interludes. All the songs keep the album coheisive. The vocals of O'Riordan are really a feature of this album, they swoop and sway softly along with the music, her alto tone is special. Now, let's not forget the others, the rest of The Cranberries.
Noel Hogan, Mike Hogan and Feargal Lawler are superb additions to this band, however like Evanescence the female lead singer is the most well known of the group. I can see why this music connects with such a wide audience. Their music is firstly original, never copying anyone else and secondly it's lyrics and subject matters are things people can relate with.
The first track on this album is Ode To My Family, this track sounds really Irish with the phrasing and pronounciation. The 'do do do do's' are quite effective as well. The theme is about loving your family and memories of childhood. I Can't Be With You is a sophisticated rock track, no screaming and grungy guitars just upper-class rock. Twenty One is the first dark track on the album, very gloomy indeed. I like this track for two reasons. One, because 21 is my favourite number and secondly the stark honesty of the song is riveting.
If I had to pick a favourite song from this album Zombie would be it. Zombie is a gorgeous track, even if it's mood is serious and angry. This song is one of their most successfull songs and has memorable themes, lyrics and a catchy guitar riff that is chilling to the bone. Empty is on the other hand the complete opposite to Zombie, it starts with a bright piano riff that almost sounds like a celesta. Very cunning. Everything I Said starts off in the same vein as The Cranberries' like to start in, haunting yet simplistic. This track is just that and O'Riordan's voice is ghostly.
The Icicle Melts is an extremely up-beat and vibrant song. It's lyrics question alot, the chorus is great and overall the arrangement is super. Disappointment is again sombre yet classy, I wonder why Dolores' voice is so strong on every track? This is just as consistent as any other track on the album. Ridiculous Thoughts starts with an electric and acoustic guitar harmonising and a voice swimming between. This song sounds like the closest thing you'll ever get to Irish country-western music.
Dreaming My Dreams is a nice ballad dedicated to Dolores' lover. Really sweet. Next, comes a short track by the name of Yeat's Grave. Yeat's Grave is experimental and has a good hook, this is the track where the band seems to gel the best. A definite favourite. Daffodil Lament is static like to start off with and is a really long track, it sounds like Disappointment. No Need To Argue is the last track, isn't it? No, there is a hidden track but we will get to that later. It is another ballad where Dolores features heavily. The hidden track comes up on i-tunes as being called "Data", I'm not sure what it is called but I like it.
Overall, this album is classy and simply stunning. It is written I think for simple Irish people, which is what this band does well. Instead of trying to please the upper-class Americans like U2 do, The Cranberries are reaching out further and spreading their musical message to the common folk of Ireland. I really love this album and I think it deserves a place in any record collection.

Thomas and Alex Wright, the brothers who formed Electric Soft Parade are unmistakably fond of guitars and keyboards braiding melodies in crafty twists, as they do throughout No Need to be Downhearted. Acoustic guitars, bells, and keys open "Shore Song Surfacing," while the brothers harmonize languorously, capturing a mix of pop and art not unlike the Beta Band and Super Furry Animals. Melodies emerge from shadows throughout Downhearted, from the plugged-in, clipped-riffs of "Life in the Backseat" to the lo-fi acoustic latticework of "Secrets," which sports this beaten-down lyric: "Keep your feelings well hid / They'll only get trodden on." Perhaps the subtle emergence of tunes is super-intentional, meant to mirror the band's lyrical fixation on isolation and alienation ("I wanna get rid of this feeling / I wanna be a part of everything / Like the way it all should be," goes the opening of "Cold World Starry Nite #1"). With the band's expert harmonies and crisp, economical use of guitar distortion along with keyboards, the cumulative impact is otherwise delightful, leading to head nods even while the Wrights sing from the fringes, from which they're trying to step forward. --Andrew Bartlett
Album Description
Their highly-anticipated full-length is epic and adventurous while retaining its pop shimmer. It follows their 2002 debut "Holes In The Wall", the 2003 release of "The American Adventure", and "The Human Body" EP, the latter of which was a perfect mid-point between their previous efforts and a teaser of greater things to come. With this new record they're at it again, this time as space-age power-balladeers and digital terrorist rockers.

Focused........2007-06-07
Die hard fans, annoying little buggers, are going to whine that they've lost alot of their 'edge'. But Electric Soft Parade have finally decided to drop the whole "Hey...Try and enjoy this average music listener" and adopt a more listener friendly sound.
They have crafted a lush and melody heavy pop record. Fantastically instrumented and played. It even takes a few turns into ambient noise pop. But really it's just another in a growing line of stubborn indie bands looking at pop music and saying "I can do better than that!" And then "GASP!" actually delivering. Get it, enjoy it. Your girlfriend will love it.
Wonderful, Upbeat, Unpredictable Brit-Pop.......2007-05-13
Having heard the band name, but having never heard their music I had no idea what to expect upon popping in the 3rd release [First one released in the US] from ESP. After a somber opener, this album explodes in one of the best, funnest tracks I've heard this year, if not the last 5 years. "Living In The Backseat" with its awesome chord progressions, fuzzy guitars and superb buildup, this track could absolutely own alternative radio and I have no idea why its not getting any exposure.
Living In The Backseat sets the tone for the rest of album. This band really sets themselves apart from the pack because they have amazing songwriting ability. Only a couple of the tracks sound like processed manufactured pop, the rest of the album is a surprise, a burst of sunshine in a mostly dull music year. If I had to compare the band to anyone, it would be Electric Light Orchestra. I'd guess they're a pretty big influence for ESP, particularly tracks like "Mr. Blue Sky"
but if you're a fan of dreamy, bouncy, psychadelic brit pop, you will LOVE this album. From the dreamy "Woken By A Kiss" to the spacey "If That's The Case, Then I Don't Know" this is maybe the album of the year thus far.

Great For Newcomers.......2005-04-13
As an 18 year old univeristy student i would have to rate "The Only Classical Cd You'll Ever Need" as excellent. I dont know much about classical music but i was able to recognize almost every song and able to appreciate the music. Classical music is excellent to study to when i am up late for an exam and amazing to calm down to will i am simply resting. For anyone who has never been interested in classical music i would recomend this CD as a great start to an appreciation for an amazing genre of music.
Classical for Complete Beginners.......2004-07-17
If you're totally and completely new to the genre, this is a fairly good cd, strictly for the purpose of getting to know the popular and familiar classics that everyone knows, but can't place. However.
I found the recording of some of the tracks to be of pretty poor quality, especially the Swan Lake waltz. It sounds as though it were recorded during dinner - lots of talking, clatterinig dishes, and overall movement in the background that's very distracting. I also found the Air on the G string, track two, to be what I would call an okay performance. You can definitely find better recordings of these and a few other tracks.
Also, if you really want to delve wholly into classical music, not just listen to the popular few, try a cd that also encompasses opera, and more "modern" classical music, such as Gershwin.
So, as I've said, for the absolute beginner it's alright, but try to find these same tracks and a few additions on another cd with better quality, and it would be your money better spent.
There's a much better "The Only ...." album . . . ........2004-01-24
When you assert a title like the above you should deliver. Another almost identically titled album does much better. I offer details about that recording below, revised from my review on the Amazon.uk web site of "The Only Classical Album You'll Ever Need", by Slatkin and others, on the Classics label.
"I'm a classical music activist and an advocate for imaginative ways to reverse classical's decline. From this standpoint 'The Only Classical Album . . .' demonstrates first-rate creative showmanship and sophistication on the part of its producers. The album does more than just stimulate impulse purchase. The outrageously inspired title was obviously designed to attract newcomers to classical. Having lured the uninitiated, a wrong start on the first track could be the last heard. The inspired choice of Orff's primal rhythms in Carmina Burana as an opener probably breaks stereotypes people may have about classical. Luscious, delicate ballet music by Delibes creates an abrupt but artful change of pace. Then follow all-meat-and-no-potatoes romantic masterpieces in the Dvorak 9th Symphony (appropriately performed by a Czech orchestra) and the Grieg Peer Gynt Suite. The album includes popular classic hits like the Pachelbel Canon and Albinoni Adagio, but embraces diverse styles and less common classics such as the Spartacus Suite by Khatchaturian, and Bizet's the Pearl Fishers (opera). Toward the end come full and unchopped performances of core classical repertory like the Bach instrumental suites and Vivaldi violin concerti (in resonant living-tradition style, led by James Galway). This is a superb present for musically-inclined newcomers to classical. More experienced listeners can relax and enjoy masterly programming and fine performances of great classics."
Well not exactly but great for newcomers............2003-08-31
This CD is excellent for introducing classical music to those unfamiliar with the genre. This is a collection of the most popular classical tunes that you have heard everwhere but don't recognize by name. Use this CD for what it is...a stepping stone.
No, the title lies a viscious lie........2003-02-18
It has some very decent stuff, though mainly just the most popluar things. Get it if your starting out listening to classical. Otherwise, youll own all the songs anyway most likely.

Customer Reviews:
The Price Club.......2005-04-28
"I am here," said Leontyne Price when interviewed as she opened the new Metropolitan Opera with Samuel Barber's underrated ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA, "and you will know that I am the best and will hear me. The color of my skin or the kink of my hair or the spread of my mouth has nothing to do with what you are listening to." Back in the 1960s Price was one of the greatest divas in all of opera, and it wasn't just her voice but her magnificent stage presence, combined with her social activism. All of the above come into play in this collection of secular songs and ditties, some of them traditional plantation chanties and others, art songs and a scattering of pop music. And some of them, like Gershwin's "Summertime," cross the ever-permeable boundaries between Broadway and classical. These recordings were made at different times in Price's career, and her voice, while always angelic, has different shadings and reaches a different range of timbre in each separate recording date, but there is no question that, as time goes by, she is able to impart a richness of life experience noticeably absent from some of her earlier work.
"Ave Maria" sounds heavenly no matter which way you slice it, and as for "I Wonder As I Wander," it brings tears to your eyes. If you have a heart that's beating you will be moved by this rendition. "Ein feste Burg" is pretty strong, but Price seems more comfortable with the traditional spirituals, though perhaps it is the slightly off-kilter sounds of the Ambrosian Singers (what a name) who back her up on many of these tracks, that detract slightly from the experience. Compare "Lead Kindly Light" for a clear sense of what constitutes authority vs. what is a wee bit overproduced. If you had this compilation, and perhaps one of Leontyne Price's Christmas albums, you could attain nirvana any time you wanted to, just flip a switch and close your eyes, let her lift you up on wings of song.
A living legend.......2005-03-10
Leontyne Price (still alive) and already passing into immortality amongst vocal artists, both classical and popular. Leontyne Price stands at the pinnacle of her classical art, but those who only know her work in La Forza del destino or the Verdi Requiem are in for a heart rending treat with this album where Leontyne Price goes home to her roots in Mississippi and gives an unabashed account of the classic spirituals she sang as a young woman. Like John Mc Cormacks rendering of Irish songs there is a personal longing and devotion expressed here that reveals a side of the artist not known in the bulk of their "classical" repetoire. A sense of going home like Citizen Kane's rosebud, or as Dorothy Gale observes at the end of the Wizard of Oz "everything I could ever have wanted was right in my own backyard "
not your daddy's old timey spiritual.......2004-06-23
Agreed this is a good cd for a beautiful voice, but this is not, repeat not, for someone who wants to hear that old-timey religious fervor that you think of when you've been to a Black Baptist hand-clapping, standing, swaying, and singing service.
Immaculate Vocals of Leontyne Price.......2003-12-31
IMMACULATE, SUPERB vocal range and style! There's no other words that can complement Miss Leontyne Price's vocal arrangements. Miss Price's voice is strong, and shrills very nicely to the instruments played on many songs listed on this double CD which is a joy to treasure; every song listed are songs I was raised to hearing and singing. Miss Price is the reason why many of these songs remain in popularity and presently used. Miss Leontyne Price has been incredible in many of her past performances. This is my fourth CD of Miss Price and I am glad to own this particular CD forever and ever. Many thanks to the executors who found this remarkable album and upgraded it to a CD format! **Angi**
Great Gospel Stuff.......2001-04-12
This is a great CD. The only problem I have with it is that on some of the selections there is a boy's choir screaming in the background, and this takes away (a bit) from her performance. That said, her best selections are those that are either unaccompanied or those where her voice is not buried. Songs that strike me are - His Name So Sweet, He's Got The Whole World, Were You There, I Wonder as I Wander, Lift Every Voice and Sing, and my all time favourite Summertime. Enough said.

Customer Reviews:
How can you call these "Hymns".......2006-08-05
Not to harp on anyone here, but it's obvious that none of you grew up in a church or environment that had a good choir. I know, a Hymn is a genre of music, but a recording of a hymn isn't one if it doesn't contain HARMONY. If they're a "choir," then why don't the tenors sing a different note than the sopranos, altos, and basses? The organist is quite good, I'll admit, but you're wasting your time if you're looking for a good recording of these beautiful songs that were COMPOSED with harmony, not unison. If they want to sing in unison like this, they need to be stripped of their "choir" status and simply be called a "group."
wonderful collection of magnificent music.......2006-01-18
Most everything on this CD is very well done. The recording environment might have been less than perfect, but that shouldn't dimish one's enjoyment very much. Most of the arrangements are very traditional, with the notable exception of Amazing Grace, which though it isn't terrible, it isn't very good either. Some songs had verses removed, which is understandable, though it was poorly done in Eternal Father, Strong to Save -- they did verse 1 ("Eternal Father"), then they skipped(!!!) verse 2 ("O Christ, the Lord") and went on to the final verses ("Holy Spirit" and "O Trinity") -- which is skipping Someone important! However, outside of that, it was excellent.
If you like sacred music, or hymns, then you'll thoroughly enjoy this CD. If you're a Christian, you should enjoy this as well, no matter your taste in music (and you might just learn to like hymns as well!). It is a well-chosen set of some of the most magnificent, God-honoring music of all time, done is a mostly very traditional manner, and it was done well.
Flawed but enjoyable.......2005-04-15
The huge size and reverberating acoustics of Washington National Cathedral make it difficult to hear any kind of live choral performance clearly, even if you're sitting in the front rows in the nave. The Cathedral Choral Society is handicapped by having to record in this acoustically mushy space, and it shows in this CD, often creating an uneven balance between the organ and the chorus as noted by other reviewers. The repertoire is well-chosen, but the quality of the arrangements is uneven. Too often, the chorus seems to be singing in unison right out of the Hymnal, like any parish church choir at an ordinary Sunday service. Certain pieces do suggest the heights which the Society is capable of attaining. But the group never achieves the splendor that the Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys displays every Sunday morning. Just when the Society seems to be getting there, the conductor pulls them back. And the shrill folk arrangement of "Amazing Grace" will have you covering your ears as the sopranos shriek clumsily, confusing volume with fervor.
Hymns through the Centuries.......2002-03-18
This is not a review. I just have a question. Does "Hymns through the Centuries" contain the hymn "It is Well with my Soul?" Thanks.
A must own for classic church music lovers.......2002-02-16
I purchased this CD just based on the titles and am very glad I did. There are only two downsides to the album. First is the fact that there isn't a companion CD with 26 more hymns! Second is picky, but I do agree with another rater that the organ could have been a little louder related to the singing. Hope you enjoy listening!

Love the Cranberries!!.......2005-08-31
I was very happy to finally get my favourite album of the Cranberries, and even more thrilled to find the 5 extra tracks. They are all very great songs, as I knew they would be. The Cranberries are one of the few musical performers that I have found not to dislike a single song I've heard of theirs. If you are a true lover of music, I'm sure you'll love the Cranberries.
so sweet.......2004-07-29
This cd is sooooo soothing and relaxing. This music is well produced and the vocals are emotional and original.
CRANBERRY JUICE FOR YOUR HANY..........2004-05-07
I don't care that much for special edition CD's there just too much time wasted in muzik, The Cranberries sophomore albu it'0s their pick moment, none will they repeat it, well who am I to know?, Cher cameback with a vengeance, Paula Abdul got a second chance as a judge, so maybe The Cranberries will record another timeless masterpiece like this, ZOMBIE it's such rock classic, ODE TO MY FAMILY is so depressing and sad that it's an anthem for uncomprenhended people, DAFFODIL LAMENT wow! this is what music it's all about, giving you the chills, NO NEED TO ARGUE slow, sad, uplifting, this record should be in your shelves and in your grandmas, so shut up about it and click on ADD TO CART, Dolores Oriordian has a privilage voice, just as Nelly Furtado, Macy Gray and yes! yes! Paula Abdul....it's all about gettin' the rhythm!
timeless and beautiful.......2003-07-28
Something I find so unique about the Cranberries is that no matter what bands seem to grace the stage and the radiostations of our time (and there is a lot of empty engineered music out there at the moment)their music always prevails, with moving , emotive and powerful music such as that on NNTA - music that I can connect to emotionally. It's so nice at the end of the day, to vent my frustration with an angst ridden chorus or be soothed by Dolores' angelic vocals. I love all these tracks but my personal favourites are Ode to My Family, I Can't Be With You, Zombie and No Need to Argue. Needless to say, if you buy this CD, it will be money well spent.
There is "no need to argue", buy this CD!!!.......2003-07-14
I have been a fan of the Cranberries for a very long time, and although I love each and every one of their cd's, this one is by far the best. Dolores writes and sings with such passion you too can not help but feel the exact emotion she felt in every song. Every song on here is marvelous and will just blow you away. From the up beat "Can't be with you," the anger driven "Zombie," to the moody "Daffodil Lament", you will find yourself lost and mesmorized by this cd. Do yourself a favor and forsake all the heartless POP music that is out now, and grab a copy of this CD, or any of their CD' for that matter. You will be happy you did and disappointed that you didn't sooner.

Almost Perfect!.......2007-03-06
I find this CD so frustrating! The Lord's Prayer was the first LP I ever purchased, and it's impact and beauty have never left me. I had all but given-up every seeing it on CD until this reissue came along. Both LPs on one CD, how can you go wrong? You can't actually UNLESS you want the complete first LP. They left out ONE SELECTION ("O, My Father") - probaby a time consideration. In any event, two great LPs, the remastering isn't much. It pales against the original LPs, but its great to have most of the albums.
Re-released at Last!!!.......1999-02-01
I have been waiting to find this on CD for years, and am so happy to have found it. One of the best albums of religious music ever. The interpretations are simple and exquisite, the phrasing clear, and each choice harmonious and moving.
Now if you'd just offer the sequel, "The Lord's Prayer II"...
probably the best of the MTC recordings - A REAL CLASSIC.......1999-01-16
I have been listening to this recording in both its vinal and cd form since about 1966. I think it is the best of the MTC recordings of religious music with a good cross section of both Mormon and Mainline music.

Excellent.......2007-05-09
The best "Sacred Harp" or "Shape Note" type singing that I've heard. The various renditons are clear and harmonious.
None of that tuning up, barking, la-la's or other cacophonous sounds here.
Brilliant.......2003-09-22
I couldn't recommend a CD more highly. As a musician I was amazed at the variety of the music here and the truly exceptional performances. It's seems we can always rely on Albany to put out the most interesting and highest quality recordings.

From Broadway to Hollywood........2007-02-12
Tibbett had the talent and the way to express it. Would that I had been around to have enjoyed it in person. Who is out there today????????
One of the greatest singing artists of all time !.......2006-01-29
The baritone Lawrence Tibbett was one of the first American artists (with Rosa Ponselle) to gain international fame and acknowledgement in opera. This disc documents his great artistry very well, although it does lack represantation of his great operatic roles.
Tibbett gives every song and aria his whole heart and mind. He may not always sing perfect techniquely, but the truthfulness and drama Tibbett brings to being is superb and has in my opinion never quite been equaled.
This record encompasses all Porgy and Bess recordings he made as well as some very impressive portrayals of ballads and songs. I would recomend this disc not only to the collector but to all who can tolerate a bit of surface noise inorder to hear one of the greatest singers of all time :
