Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Dignified techno.......2005-03-10

With few exceptions, I do not care for dance music, electronica, techno, etc. However, I picked this album up because of David Narcizo, the brilliant drummer behind Throwing Muses. Thoughtful harmonies are laced with creative use of vocal sounds (some from Kristin Hersch herself), and the beats are infectious. If you are looking for something compelling in this genre, I promise you Castle of Crime will not disappoint (and spread the word, this album is shamefully ignored).

4 out of 5 stars Best Instrumental album in a long while.......2003-11-22

I haven't heard a great instrumental album along these lines since Trans Am's "Surrender To the Night". Hard driving drumming over nice loops and synth hooks. Almost old-school in it's apporach to the synths, but with actual drumming laid down on top of it. Sounds like background music for a great film.

5 out of 5 stars What a pleasant surprise.......2002-05-19

This CD is a tour de force for one of the most innovative and gifted drummers around. Being a huge Muses fan and one who enjoys dance music (to say nothing of moody instrumental soundtrack-y like stuff), I was predisposed to like this album. That's why it was so much more enjoyable when I found it totally unlike anything I was expecting, and in fact, much better than I'd anticipated. Moody as hell, the CD runs the gamut of emotions, with David's strong rhythmic sense the only constant. Put it on on a hot summer night--or a cold wintry day--and you'll find something new to enjoy about it with each new listen. Nice, nice stuff.

4 out of 5 stars LAKUNA is delightful.......2000-02-27

LAKUNA comes across as completely organic dance music. The hypnotic drum beats and earthy samples make for a nice, interesting soundtrack to films not yet realised. This album is at times sad, contemplative, confused, and happy.

4 out of 5 stars why is this being so overlooked?.......1999-11-02

Lakuna has a rich musical tradition at its core (David Narcizo played drums for Throwing Muses for 12+ years...)and it hones in on a brilliant mix of samples, beats and shards of vocals. This is a great CD, full of sonic twists and turns, and should at least be garnering some dance floor nods. It can't quite hold up for its duration, but it's much better than a lot of the crap littering the radio and dance floors right now....
