Definitely Worth Buying!!!.......2005-12-10
I've always been a fan of Andy C and when I heard about Nightlife 2, I knew I had to get it. THIS HAS TO BE THE BEST DRUM & BASS CD THAT I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!!!! I thought the first Nightlife cd was really good, and it is, but Nightlife 2 is UNBELIEVABLE! YOU MUST GET THIS CD NOW!!
Massv of all Massv.......2005-08-04
Is this guy a better DJ or producer? From his Ram Trilogy and Origin Unknown stuff, he's composed some of the best D&B trax ever. But his DJ skills are equally impressive, probably one of the best in this genre (not ez muzik to mix--trust me). CD 1 has some absolute bombs on it, and they are mixed to perfection. If I were to nit pick, I wish he let a few of these stormers go a lil' longer ("Together" by Logistics is an all time roller) but in his defense, he's rinsing 29 trax, so I can understand. Disc 2 is some of his best work as a producer w/ Ram and O.U. ("Dred Bass", which he has a remix of on this disc) is one of the 1st trax that turned me on to Jungle--it's an all time classic. Anyway, both of these discs are my 4 shots of espresso on my to work every morning.
SICK DRUM & BASS.......2005-06-02
If you like drum and bass this is the album for you. Even if you dont like drum and bass and your in to other styles like hardcore or Freeform you will LOVE this CD. Number 26 is one of the best songs I have ever heard.
Andy C. at his best.......2005-03-27
I have been a fan of Andy C. for quite some time, getting my hands on every album he's put out. I believe him to be one of the best mixers of drum & bass around. When I heard about this album, I rushed straight to the store to buy it. The first Nightlife album was great, but is no comparison to this one. It starts off with a bang and ends with a bang. Both CDs are jam packed with some of the grittiest drum & bass tunes your ears will ever hear. Some of the intros on these CDs blew me away! I rewind through intros almost every time I listen to these CDs. The bass will make your speakers explode, and I talk from experience. I played a few of the songs from this collection on a friend's stereo and he ended up needing new speakers. When that happens, you know it's good!
You need this album, buy it, don't miss out.
Good ish, good ish...........2005-01-30
Well, I've been a D'n'B listener since about 1999, and when I first started to listen to it i was mostly in to the works of Dieselboy, AK1200, and DJ Dara......I was at the record store the other day and This album caught my eye, because of the track listings and it was priced reasonably well for the amount of songs. I have never heard anything from AndyC before my purchase, and I have to say WOW, this CD is really really good. I mean being accustomed to hearing darker D'n'B (diesely, ak1200), it was a fresh sound out of the ordinary. This D'n'B has some vocals here and there and it has more a of a dance type feel. Also, because of this CD, I purchased NIGHTLIFE (the first one) and also RAM RAIDERS mixed by AndyC. You will not be disappointed with this CD.

This compilation, offered by LA's Urb Magazine, is only deceptively straightforward: it explores the current state of electronica, with dance-floor stalwarts DJ Icey, Uberzone, and Rabbit in the Moon butting heads with neo-pop stars like the Crystal Method, Goldie, and Portishead. One might suspect this to be yet another cash-in "electronica" compilation, a mere licensing scheme intended to separate you from the contents of your wallet. But this ain't no scam: not only is the track selection topnotch and accessible, with an equal dose of well-known hits and underappreciated gems, but the compilation also offers an entertaining education. On disc two, New York's Liquid Todd throws down a set of classics, tracks like Rhythim Is Rhythim's "Strings of Life," Orbital's "Chime," and Dubtribe's "Mother Earth," giving an insight as to what today's electronica stars were hearing whilst in their nappies. As an introduction to the overhyped and confusing world of "electronica," this compilation can't be beat. --Matthew Corwine
Customer Reviews:
Good "past and present" collection........2003-09-08
No collection will ever be perfect, but this does a decent job. The first disc is what's supposed to be hot (in 98). The second is supposed to be some old school classics. Some well known artists are on here like "Prodigy", "Moby", and "Portishead". My favorite thing by far is some of who's sampled on different tracks. Samples from "Bad Brains", "Kate Bush", "The Verve", and the theme from "Twin Peaks". Overall a good comp. The 1st "Urbal Beats" is good too. Pretty much electronica's greatest hits.
This is a pointless review.. for a pointless album.......2001-07-28
First thing about this album that i must mention right off is that the track slection is horrid. If it wasn't trying to be a "definitive guide to electronic music" it probably wouldn't have been so annoying. Really this "urbal beats" series works well if view together, but the track selection seems wrong in the individual sets. This time around the balance is thrown off by adding too much big beats, jungle, and trip hop. Three styles that do come from the same influences. Giving the whole album a lack of diversity. Digital empire 2 does diversity so much better. Another issue is the repetition of the same groups and groups that are seen together all the time.. I mean we have an original prodigy song, a remix of a prodigy song and a song prodigy remixed? is this the "definitve guide to prodigy?" We have a fatboy slim song, and a fat boy slim remix. And the whole first disk breaks down to basically 3 different types of related electronica. giving a very bad "definition" of electronica.
The second disk is a half way decent attempt at mixing alot of classic together, but I am getting somewhat sick of hearing old school electronica thats just doesn't hodl up well over time.
I give the album 4 stars since it does have some decent gems on it. But I highy recomend "digital empire 2" over this compilation if your looking to get schooled on the so called "electronica genre"
A letdown.......2000-06-23
This CD was a big letdown.. it was recommended by the person at the record store, looked good, etc. Basically disc 1 was too jungle for me. There are some tunes that are pretty good, but there are some downright angry-feeling ones as well. Temper-temper gave me a headache and "release YO' Delf"--well, you can figure it.
Disc 2 was much better, but still not enough to compell me to repeat the purchase.
Summary: Disc1 1-2 stars, Disc2 3-4 stars
Disc 2 much better.......2000-06-19
There's another review that sums my sentiments exactly. Disc 1 gets 2-3 stars (kind of like a rap with faster beat) But disc 2 is really good; 5 stars)
Start With The First Volume.......2000-06-01
This set is more uneven than the first Urbal Beats, but it still contains more than a few classics of the genre. The two discs contain a lot of music for a good price--I recommend it as a next step if you like the first volume.

Chill out.......2005-04-25
The second volume of WINTER CHILL is a treat. The first disc has some great tracks from Sarah McLachlan and Delerium, Afterlife, Goldfrapp, Bent, Dusted, Chicane, Thivery Corporation and more. However, I found disc two to be the better of the two. It features great tracks like "Sunrain" by LTJ Bukem, "Move You Run" by Smith and Mighty, and "I Don't Want to Know" by Muki. Great chillout album!
Great lounging music.......2004-11-28
Who are these people who complain about this volume? It's every bit as good as volume 3! It's definitely heavy on female vocals, but I think there's so much more variety here than in, say, a Norah Jones album that I can't complain about the girl-heavy tracks. There's just enough variety between the songs to keep you interested, but not enough to lose the chill-out vibe. I like to have this one on while I'm studying.
Both CDs are equally wonderful.......2003-08-19
I have been listening to CD#1 for 2 years, loving every moment. This weekend, I finally bothered to listen to CD#2 (you have to understand, most 2-CD sets have one CD that's worth it and the other is just filler.....or so I thought!) I am now having trouble deciding which CD is better, but they are both amazing. Beautiful beautiful beautiful music. Sensitive, innovative, melodic, seductive. Some (good) rap, some acapella, good arrangements, dreamy lyrics. If you like HedKandi, this is one of their very best.
Feel the "Chill" of Hed Kandi........2003-02-04
As of this writing, our region has been suffering some exceptionally cold weather. In these times, you feel like staying indoors, curling under a wool blanket while sipping away at a cup of herbal tea. But what's still missing from this picture? Hed Kandi's excellent second volume of their Winter Chill series. Here are two discs of edgy songs featuring plenty of ethereal female vocals, with genres ranging from dark electropop to sprinkles of soulful jazz. In my mind, Mark Doyle (who compiled these CDs) is among the standard-bearers of downtempo comps, and he creates formulas that labels Ministry of Sound and Ultra would later emulate. What's to like? Afterlife's "Makes Me Feel," familiar cuts "Porcelain" by Moby and "Lebanese Blonde" by Thievery Corporation, as well as "Silence" by Delerium all make Disc 1 worth the trip. But Disc 2 covers more ground, with cuts like the soulfully suave "Sunrain" by LTJ Bukem, the reggae touches of the seductive "Move You Run" by Smith and Mighty, and the acoustic guitar-flavored "I Don't Want to Know" by Muki. These tracks do a great job of creating a mellowed out atmosphere, and they bring up images of a frigid January afternoon. Hed Kandi steers away from the predictable and released one of the best downtempo comps I own. A smart purchase for those who'd rather stay in.
Not bad but could have been so much more.......2002-01-23
Anytime you buy a techno (or any of the techno progeny like house, ambient, trance etc.) you are taking a chance. Why? First, because it doesn't take much to make dance music sound weak. Second, because you probably own half the tracks (in a slightly different mix) on other albums. I own about 10 chill out albums of various quality and I have to, honestly, say that Winter Chill 2 is the weakest. Its flow is sludgy (is that sludgy sound the "winter" in winter chill?) and experimental but experimental in a garage noise kind of way.
(their version of "Swollen" sucks, its littered with ambient crap that sounds reminds me of what a 13 year old does when he gets his hand on his first synthesizer. Sometimes people think that any experimentation is good. No. fyi: You probably own a version of "Swollen" it's the one with a woman crooning "The quietest shade of brown...")
Anyway, to make a long story short: I like the idea of Winter Chill, but WC2 is inferior to most of the other chill/trance albums I own.

Volume 2=Second place.......2004-03-12
More male vocals and hip-hop influence on this than "The Acid Jazz Test, Volume 1", so if the previous reviews here appeal to you, you will be even happier with "Vol. 1," which includes better material by some of the same artists: instead of "Do the Right Thing" here, volume 1 has "Set Me Free" by the Bygraves, perhaps their finest tune. Jhelisa's "All I Need" and Karime Kendra's "Never Give Up" are two other standouts on volume 1. All three feature tasty female vocalists over a thick groove. Here the top tracks are Sound Assembly's "Stoned Again" and Brooklyn Funk Essentials' "Stickman"
BUY IT.......2000-02-22
I was turned on to this CD several years ago by a friend who is a musician. I had an old tape of this recording and was so excited to find the CD here on Amazon. This CD is mellow, sexy, funky and political. If you've ever thought of trying acid jazz, try this.
A great dance groove........1998-12-02
I haven't as of yet come across another album with such a wonderfully mellow techno-jazz beat. One of the best music purchases I've ever blindly bought. Especially good for those listeners who enjoy a hauntingly beautiful women's voice laced throughout their beats. Cannot reccomend this album strongly enough!!

Ambient drum and bass heaven!!!.......2005-09-21
This is a cd that brings back some very fond memories. I could listen to it all day and never tire of it. If you are into some smooth chilled out ambient drum and bass, then this is the ticket. With a mixed cd and an unmixed one, they both are excellent. Warning: there is an mc on the mixed cd. I am not much of a fan of mc's in drum and bass in the first place and this guy ain't the best mc anyway, but nevertheless I still love this mix and can't get enough of it!!!
Beautiful.......2001-04-23
I was caught up traversing amazon.com listening to similar types of music when I happened upon this CD. If you are a fan of Progression Sessions and Logical Progessions, you will recognize some familiar tunes and the MC. This CD has a sweeter sound than the above mentioned series. There are no weak tracks on this CD. I guarantee that this CD will help you on your journey to a eurphoric state. If you are not a fan of the jazzier side of drum and bass, keep looking.
HEAVEN.......2001-04-13
heaven...heaven..."heaven" must be the ultimate groove on this hypnotic classical jungle journey. Two cd's one mixed one unmixed. If you're just exploring the large logistic world of jungle, Promised Land will take you there. jacinta@poetic.com
Magia musical.......2000-06-24

Great CD for the early 90's.......2001-05-31
When enlisted in the service in 91, I bought this CD for a pick me up. If you wanted to work out it was music that kept you motivated with that fast paced beat. That's why I am bying another, played the other to pieces. Would stongly reccomend!!!!!!
Back in the day ..........2000-04-14
This used to be the only techo CD I had, back in 1992. I listened in awe for weeks. It has several landmark tracks, particularly Zeroxed and Bombscare. And a version of the revived HAMPSTERDANCE song!
A classic example of early club music.......1999-03-28
A friend of mine gave me this tape and i stoped playing when the tape fell apart its a perfect example of the music we just dont get anymore
a classic cd with classic techno tunes.......1998-12-07
this is a cd full of music at a time when there was not as much seperation and labelling on styles of music ... it was before jungle and happy hardcore were born and therefore has some classic raw choons.

Customer Reviews:
intro.......2002-12-27
Highly recommonded as a perfect introduction to trip hop from some of the true innovators.
A classic collection of the maddest ninjatunes.......2001-06-25
Almost as good as "If Ya Can't Stand Tha Beats, Get Outta Tha Kitchen", this album is an excellent addition to any collection of a NinjaTune headcase.
Ninja Tune at their best.......2000-10-10
This is my favorite triphop compilation, with Mo Wax's Headz 2 coming in a close second. This comp definitely showcases all of the best of Ninja Tune's stables. after owning this one for 4 years, I still find myself popping it in the cd player about once every couple of days. Nice, chilled out, funky and not acid jazz wack.
