Back to Basics, Christina Aguilera's first disc in four years, refines and clarifies the--let's call it "sexy"--aura surrounding this platinum firebrand. Here, the best belter in a class that counts Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears on its roll call has turned her attention to love songs: the supercharged and ubiquitous first single "Ain't No Other Man," for one, and the hushed stunner "Save Me from Myself" for another. That doesn't mean she's foresworn being nasty, though. Dive deep into this set, past the gorgeous crackle that frames the old-school jazz-, blues-, and soul-inspired tracks on the first disc, and you'll reach a playful and familiar raunch; "Candyman" celebrates a "one-stop shop" who "makes the panties drop" to a boogie-woogie beat, and "Nasty Naughty Boy" sends out a heated, big-beated invitation to "sip on my champagne/Cause I'm gonna give you a little taste/Of the sugar below my waist." Thoughtful listeners should snap out of their fascination with Xtina's undiminished yet newly un-tramp-like sexuality, though, because what they'll really want to focus on throughout these 22 tracks is the honest-to-God artistry. While the rock producer Linda Perry helps disc two pop in interesting and unexpected ways (check the muffled blues number "I Got Trouble" and "Mercy on Me," an obvious nod to Fiona Apple), DJ Premier, a mainstay on Jay-Z and Nas projects, pipes a batch of aural high-fives into the nostalgia-bitten first disc (the deep-down funk of "Back in the Day," the strut-strut early hip-hop sound of "Still Dirrty"). Their nudges aside, though, Back to Basics is all Aguilera's baby--she executive-produced, and she's found herself artistically. Nobody would argue, in fact, if she swiveled around the chorus to "Ain't No Other Man," written for her husband, and aimed it at herself: "You got soul, you got class/You got style, you're bada--." --Tammy La Gorce

4 out of 5 stars Back to Basics.......2007-07-11

Great CD. Love most of the songs. Some are OK, and real different.

4 out of 5 stars Unexpected pleasure.......2007-07-05

I never thought I'd like any of these bubble-gum-pop stars, but I found myself really enjoying the songs on this CD. And I was pleasantly surprised by Aguilera's voice -- much better than the rest of the mouseketeer pack.

5 out of 5 stars One of the greastest singers of all time.......2007-06-14

This album is fantastic. She is truley and talented musician and really sets herself apart form all of the rest. Keep on doing what your doing!

5 out of 5 stars Christina is on Fire!.......2007-06-01

I've always been a fan of Christina Aguilera...She never "over does" her music. I think she decide to change her look and sound due to the ridiculous criticism she recived for the "Stripped/2002" album. I though that album was musically geinus. So that brings me to "Back to Basics/2006". I love this album, though it would have done her better to release it as a single album and the drop of two songs. I can listen to Disc 1 all day long, with songs like: Ain't No Other Man, Oh Mother, F.U.S.S. (which by the way means F**k You Scott Storch), On Our Way ect... She has definatley progressed as an artist and can't wait until her next album!

Favorite songs:

1. On Our Way
2. Without You
3. Still Dirrty
4. Oh Mother
5. F.U.S.S.
6. Ain't No Other Man

4 out of 5 stars Does Xtina (or Baby Jane) steal a little? CD more suited for Alicia Keys.......2007-05-21

First of all, this is a very good cd(s). I love that she uses "old, old skool" samples in most of her songs. It is also very clear that she has talent and has taken control of her career(since "Stripped"). The slight problem I have is there is a lot to be said about white artists "taking" from the black experience when they have absolutely no relations within the black community. For example, on "Back In The Day," Xtina makes a reference to "Soul Train"-why? It's not like she could relate to thousands of black folk watching the program in question in the 70's. Also in that song (and on the album in general, one could tell she was heavily influenced by black artists of the day-"the innovators"[exclusively mentioned, i.e. Billie Holiday (Lady Day),(John)Coltrane, Etta James)]. In "Makes Me Wanna Pray" sounds of the black church experience are sampled onto that song with the gospel "call and responses." It's seems she tries so hard to imitate this, especially when she ridiculously calls out, "Thank you father!" Furthermore, many of Xtina's fans know that she was "home trained" in terms of her singing. This is also a copy of the great African-American singers (Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Patti Labelle) that were "home-trained" in the church (black folks couldn't afford private/otherwise singing lessons).
Overall, even though I believe this album is exceptional in alot of ways, Xtina should try to fine her own unique voice-this will truly make her an original.

Underneath all Christine Aguilera's coy affectations and vocal gymnastics lurks a rare talent. With her second album, Aguilera allows it to flower by abandoning all pretense at courting the teenage market. Stripped is a seemingly effortless move into weightier adult territory. Using her extraordinary voice as a much subtler instrument, Aguilera sings movingly and with grit and anger about the disintegration of a relationship; she's ultimately stronger for the pain. But that's not her whole agenda. Aguilera also extols the power of women on "Can't Hold Us Down," which features Lil' Kim. Other guests include Dave Navarro, Redman, and Alicia Keys. Aguilera cowrote most of the songs on the disc and produced one cut. She also partnered with former 4 Non Blondes leader and Pink collaborator Linda Perry on four songs, which gives Aguilera a rock edge that she has never before displayed. --Jaan Uhelszki

5 out of 5 stars inspirational and addicting.......2007-06-12

there are alot of songs on this cd...thank god...because the are all, except for one, amazingly wonderful. Great lyrics...that mean alot. I cry, i laugh, i smile, I dance depending on the tune. Christina knows what shes doing and she works it well. She is strong and smart and her voice is incredible. As much as i love to dance to her songs, the ballads are even more amazing as she stirs your emotions with the combination of insightful lyrics and perfect vocal delivery. I don't think I have ever played a cd so many times in such a short amount of time. I am addicted

4 out of 5 stars Wow, Christina bares it........2007-04-05

I was surprised at just how Xtina bared it. The cover was mature,
and she had grown out of the bottle. I like the tracks dirrty, fighter and beautiful.

2 out of 5 stars Should have bought the single.......2007-03-23

I ususally like Aguilera and I need a song to practice for dance so I bought this one for "No Other Man" figuring I would like the other songs as well. I was so wrong. I hate the rest of them.

5 out of 5 stars The Goddess Returns!.......2007-03-09

Christina Aquilera has gone from being a genie in a bottle telling us what a girl wants to being a sexed-up dirrty vixen in this c.d. Christina is amazing. Stripped has heart, and is very powerful. Stripped has to be my favorite c.d. that Christina Aquilera has ever done, and I think that it is because everything that someone could possibly go though is on this one c.d. If you are thinking about purchasing this c.d.-DO! See Christina Aquilera live in her Back To Basics Tour 2007...amazing live show! SHE IS THE BEST!

4 out of 5 stars Different image, but similar style of songs.......2007-03-02

I think I enjoyed this album from all of Christina's other albums. For some odd reason, and embarrassing as it sounds, "The Voice Within" was my favorite track on here. That certainly doesn't make me sound all that manly, since the song is about giving a young girl some boost to her self esteem, but the rhythm and lyrics were compelling to me. "Beautiful" was a radio hit for a long time, and I still enjoy hearing it once in a while. Christina's whole "Dirrty" image portrayed in this album seems to be more of a hoax than substance, but you can't knock the girl for trying to spice up her image. Even with her attempts at changing her image to a bad girl, she still does her best in the powerful and gripping ballads. Her dance tracks are decent, but if you enjoy her ballads, some of her best are on this album.

4 out of 5 stars Pure soul.......2007-07-09

When I first heard her voice, I was stunned. She shouldnt be compared to the talent-less Brittney Spears, Christina's voice is pure soul and r&b.
This album is one of my favorites. The best songs, in my opinion, had an R&B flavor b/c that ultimately does her voice the most justice.
So Emotional 10/10, Somebody's Somebody 9/10, Genie In a Bottle 7/10, Obvious 9/10, When you put your hands on me 9/10 and Reflectino 7/10 to me are the best tracks. Great buy!

4 out of 5 stars Agreeable Aguilera.......2007-05-26

This was a very good debut album for Christina. It's an enjoyable pop/dance album [shades more toward the pop and ballads]. "Genie in a Bottle" "What a Girl Wants" and "Come on Over" are a lot of und in particular. Unlike a number of the blonde singers who popped up in the later 90s, Christina undeniably has a very strong and good voice. She uses it well here, and the music compliments it. This album was made before she became trampy. She's married now and seems to be recovering class. That's good. Keep it up Christina.

4 out of 5 stars BETTER OF THE CHRISTINA CDS.......2007-04-12

I THINK GENIE IN THE BOTTLE IS ONE OF CHRISTINAS BETTER CDS. SINCE THIS IS HER FIRST CD AND SHE WAS VERY YOUNG I FEEL THAT SHE EXPRESSED HER TRUE TALENT. HER VOICE IS SO POWERFUL. THERES LOTS OF GOOD SONGS ON THIS ALBUM. MY FAVORITE IS "I TURN TO YOU". THIS SONG HAS A WAY OF MAKING SOMEONES BAD DAY TURN INTO A GOOD DAY. AND NO MATTER HOW MUCH I LOVE BRITNEY SPEARS I THINK CHRISTINA WILL ALWAYS BE BETTER. THIS IS A GREAT CD. YOU SHOULD GET IT.

5 out of 5 stars Christina is the Geinie!.......2007-03-09

Christina Aquilera. This is the c.d. where it all started. A must have for all who have c.d. collections. A great c.d. to play when you are driving in the car with your friends having a merry good old fashion time with the pop music blaring, windows down and everyone screaming out the lyrics to a good portion of the songs on the c.d. all the while laughing. If you are thinking about purchasing this c.d.-DO! See Christina Aquilera live in her Back To Basics Tour 2007! The live show is nothing but pure awesomeness!

5 out of 5 stars x-tina timeline.......2007-01-02

Here is a timeline of X-tina (Christina) Aguilera's talent:

*Christina Aguilera- Okay, u gotta admit, she was really rockin da house when her first album in 1999 came out. She actually had talent when she first started! She truly was a pop princess in 1999. I loved everything on dat album.

*Stripped- Uh-oh. Her talent started to drop. Wuzzup wit dat? What was with her! She was horrible when Stripped came out! Plus, she had audiences of many different ages, and dis was not one of her best talents yet. She was really in her dirrrty days.

*Back to Basics- Oh. My. Gawd. Her. Talent. Went. Up. By. Alot. !!! She was DEFINITELY past her dirrrty days. "Aint No Other Man" "Hurt" "Candy Man" and more...WOW!! She truly and really has an unique and amazing voice here!!

So, that is a timeline of X-tina or Christina Aguilera's talent of good and bad. She now shines like a beyootiful star. She should win LOADS of Grammy's. Keep on rockin, X-tina!!!

You go, girl! Riding on the coattails of the Latin explosion, teen sensation Christina Aguilera decided to tap into her Ecuadorian roots (on her father's side) and brush up on her Spanish. With her newfound tongue, she translates five tracks of her multiplatinum self-titled debut. "Genie in a Bottle" becomes "Genie Atrapado," "Come On Over" becomes "Ven Conmigo," and her other major hits get code-switched and granted the added value of Spanish guitar and dizzied-up Latin disco beats. Fans, especially those who understand the language, should rush to pick up this album. In the year since Aguilera released her self-titled debut, she's honed her chops and figured out what kind of artist she wants to be: namely, an R&B heavy-hitter, not a pop princess. To prove her staying power and worth, she does serious vocal acrobatics with so much confidence and clarity on Mi Reflejo, you'll forget that five of these songs are old, that all are translated into a language other than her native tongue, and that she's a modest 19 years old. --Heidi Sherman

    5 out of 5 stars Beautiful.......2007-06-26

Christina Aguilera's Mi Reflejo is Christina's debut as a Spanish singer, and being a big Christina fan I was super excited when this CD was released, and I instantly brought it. I was not disappointed! Christina sings each song beautifully, and it even sounds like she even knows Spanish fluently. Most of the songs on this CD are ballads, and it includes Spanish re-makes of: "Genie in a Bottle", "Come On Over", "I Turn To You", "What A Girl Wants", and "Refections". This CD is enhanced and includes 2 music videos. This is one Christina's greatest achievements, and deserves all the good reviews it can get.

5 out of 5 stars SIMPLEMENTE INOLVIDABLE ..........2007-05-05

SIMPLEMENTE INOLVIDABLE.

5 out of 5 stars Great latin pop album!.......2005-09-17

This album contains the five singles from the debut translated in to spanish, and it sounds even better than the original versions! All, and I mean all,the other songs are really good, it's mostly ballads and some more up-tempo latino-inspired tracks, that could've easily been hit singles.
The no.1. thing that makes this album so great is of course Christina's amazing voice, and guess what, it sounds even better in spanish! I would recommend this album to anybody, great buy!

2 out of 5 stars WHY ARE YOU REMIXING "HURT"?.......2007-04-04

That is the question I wondered when I saw this in the store! With the punch "Ain't No Other Man" packed and it to not make it out on a US released cd single but yet "Hurt" is a mystery!

"Hurt" is a heart-felt sad ballad full of grief and regret - hardly something to go dancing over. I suppose if the remixes possibly could retain the intensity of the sadness contained in the lyrics of this song, they could give creedance to the 80's new wave song "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes"! I heard one version playing and it did not work, it was just a remix for the sake of being such, and with so much other material available that lends itself well to a remix, "Hurt" should have not been messed with as it becomes lost in the shuffle and will hardly be a memorable remix. Now having said that regarding making this song into a dance version, there is a remix that works somewhat - thus earning this single a 2-star rating; It is a chill-out version with is still in ballad form but with more ambient flair. The feel is still intact to an extent but it can not match the original in conveying the heart-wrenching lyrics' song of grief over losing someone over foolishness. Perhaps the most tear-jerking part of this song is the bridge and chorus but in the chill-out version that quality is diminshed.

Perhaps a "double A-side" cd single with the original, the chill-out remix
and the remixes for "Ain't No Other Man" would have been a better deal thus giving us the remixes to a highly energetic song with "remix" written all over it.

    5 out of 5 stars Great remixes!!!.......2007-04-01

Fabuloso maxi single de Christina Aguilera, Hurt es una cancion que me extremecio desde el primer momento que la escuche los remixes recuerdan bastante a su otro single Beautiful pero para quien le gusten no sera defraudado por la diva.

    4 out of 5 stars still WOW!.......2007-01-30

I love this song & Christina has just an incredible voice. I was disappointed that the original radio version was not on this single (ALL remixes), but you still get so much range from Christina that you have to love it anyway. This is right up there with "Beautiful" & Christina will continue to shine. Peace & love. Tonya S.

Like Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera never met a melissmatic phrase (that gospel-like elongation of syllables) that she couldn't love. And she deploys more than her share throughout this 11-song holiday disc. Her excessive style is best-suited to "Merry Christmas, Baby"--complete with a surprise cameo by Dr. John. When she isn't blowing out her chords with embarrassing emoting, at times, Aguilera sounds like she's shouting. Still, you know that if you don't get this for your teenaged fan, it's you who will get that lump of coal in your stocking. --Martin Keller

    5 out of 5 stars A Must-Have for True Fans!.......2007-03-08

Christina's light comes shining through right from the first few bars. If you're thinking about getting this, you KNOW you LOVE her and you know she LOVES you and you also know she's an angel from heaven in a little human body so who better to liven up your Christmastime? She's not gonna bore you with flat old arrangements off the shelf. No! The songs and charts are well-chosen and, as always, the ultimate style-perfectionist with the dynamic pipes that is Christina hits the center of the target on every cut. What else would you expect from our girl? It will last you a lifetime of very cool Decembers! Get it.

    5 out of 5 stars A Great Christmas Album.......2006-12-28

Christina Aguilera is probably one of the best singers ever. When I heard that she made a Christmas album,I was skeptical about buying it after I saw all of the bad reviews. Now,I think it is one of the best Christmas albums.Out of the whole album, there are 4 songs that are annoying, but the most is Xtina's Xmas. Here are the songs I would recommend:
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
Angels We Have Heard On High
    Merry Christmas,Baby
    Oh Holy Night
    This Christmas
    The Christmas Song
    The Christmas Song (Holiday Remix)

1 out of 5 stars BOGUS CD. NOT ORGINAL.......2006-12-24

The cd is obviously not real. I used to own the exact same cd and it was completely different. The cover was printed on a cheap printer. DON'T GET SUCKERED LIKE I DID!

    5 out of 5 stars Christina rocks!!!!.......2006-12-19

To anyone out there who bashed her singing talents on this cd all I have to is, Are you kidding me????. As far as I'm concerned, she has the best singing voice of ANY female recording artist out there, period. She'll still be putting out great music while Britney Spears keeps on getting the bad press. This cd is excellent!!!.

1 out of 5 stars 0 STARS! XMAS? REALLY?!? .......2006-12-18

The most horrible Xmas album I've ever bought! Doesn't even make you think of Xmas AT ALL. Felt like I was in a Speakeasy listening to a lounge singer. She should be ashamed to even put the word Christmas on this album. All the good reviews here MUST be from DIE-HARD Christina fans - or they've been drinking. Try Mariah's album, it's not a 'classic' as some say, but it's much better and actually has REAL Xmas music!!

4 out of 5 stars Oh I'm sorry for blaming you!.......2007-07-12

"Hurt" is a great power ballad from Christina Aguilera. I only heard this once or twice on the radio and I think it deserved more radio airplay. The lyrics are great and her singing is top notch. I think this is one of Christina's best songs and it shows her growth as an artist. She's come a long way since "What A Girl Wants" and "Genie In A Bottle." I downloaded this song on my computer and I love listening to it. Thumbs up for Christina!

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST VOCAL OF THE PAST YEAR!!!.......2006-12-24

Why this is not a huge Number 1 hit is beyond me! The single greatest song that has been released this year! And that is saying alot! We have had tons of great songs this year (some better than others)..but nothing comes close to the sheer brilliance of this song! The vocals are second to none! The emotions in this song...is..OMG!!

I haven't heard this song in forever, and I just came across it in my cd collection.
Ricky and Christina made an awesome team and they should've done more songs together.
This song used to be one of my favorite songs ever.
Now I've got myself listening to it 24/7 like I used to.

5 out of 5 stars very, very good and catchy!.......2005-07-22

I just recently started listening to this song, and I was pleasantly surprised how well Christina's and Ricky's voices blend together. The hook is very catchy, and the song is both romantic and powerful. I am surprised that it didn't get more airplay. This made me like both of them, as vocalists, which I couldn't say before.......
