Vitamin C took a leaf from the Sugar Ray playbook, calling in dance-hall royalty (in this case Lady Saw) to add some spice to the single "Smile." Colleen Fitzpatrick, formerly of modern rockers Eve's Plum, makes sure we know her smarts didn't run out there; her Madonna-influenced album also has room for a canny dance-pop version of Split Enz's "I Got You," a Feminism 101 essay assignment for junior-high students ("Girls Against Boys"), and a Clash sample on "Fear of Flying." Unfortunately, these good ideas are failed by their execution--most of the songwriting and tracks are catchy but not enough to truly lift the record off the ground--and Fitzpatrick's slight air of superiority to the radio-driven marketplace she's courting makes the record ultimately unfun. A lesson in sincere manipulation wouldn't hurt; a few listens to Best of Blondie might help. --Rickey Wright

5 out of 5 stars Vitamin C [ENHANCED CD].......2006-10-06

This is one of the best CD's that I have ever heard. My favorite song on this CD is Graduation Day (Friends Forever). That song was played at my graduation from High School.

5 out of 5 stars Pop perfection.......2006-05-07

Vitamin C, despite having broken out with chart hits "Smile" and "Graduation (Friends Forever)" still was overlooked by many many pop artists back in the day. Still, on her self-titled debut, Vitamin C managed to make a record that probably is an overlooked pop gem!

This is pure pop perfection at it's finest. You've got a wide variety of all kinds of genres rolled into one...some more catchier than others.

"Me Myself & I" is a fun tune that pokes fun at making it on one's own.

"Not That Kind of Girl" has a rock-tinged Vitamin C going all out.

"Do What You Wanna Do" samples some Digital Underground with some success, with Vitamin C crooning about how her fella doesn't need to be perfect to win her over.

"Girls Against Boys" is a fun, slightly random tune about waging war with the sexes. A great beat coupled with some somewhat out-of-place Japanese jibberish and you got a funky track.

"I Got You" is full of energy, with Vitamin C slowing down during the parts leading up to the chorus, where the song just comes alive with a strong beat.

A good CD to have to your pop collection.

Since this CD has been reviewed to death (143 reviews as of this writing), I'll just make this short and simple, only adding what little information I can.

Two of the songs have minor cuts at the end.

Track 6 - "Do What You Want To Do" - cuts off at the end as the next track starts.

Track 10 - About Last Night" - end of song fades into track 11 "Fear of Flying."

There's a bonus song which isn't listed in the track listing on the back of the CD case. However, if you buy the CD factory-sealed, there should be an orange sticker on the front with white and yellow-orange text which reads: "Includes the anthem for all friends, for all times Graduation [Friends Forever] and the hits Me, Myself And I and Smile. Bonus Features! Graduation [Friends Forever] (The Student Interview Mix); video and interview footage for your CD-Rom (Enhanced CD)."

So, Track 13 is "Graduation [Friends Forever] (The Student Interview Mix)" (that's the official title).

The Enhanced CD video and interview footage mentioned on the label is for "Smile," though there is one brief clip of Vitamin C singing "Gradution" in a studio with the choir.

4 out of 5 stars Vitamin C - Good Vocal and Unique Music.......2005-04-18

Although Vitamin C's music is quite catchy, I don't think it belongs to the mainstream American pop cultural music. Her interpretation of these songs are unqie and the production of this albumn is very good. I really like her voice. It's sweet but not oversweetened, firm but not rigid. It's very pleasant to the ear.

The overal quality of this albumn is high, with each song contributing similar tone to the albumn. However, it does seem that the last song "graduation" is forcibly put on this albumn just to add some pop flavor to it. It was obvious because this song was one of the hit singles from the albumn, and the theme of this song just didn't go well with the entire albumn

I'd say that if there wasn't this useless effort of adding a hit song at the end, I'd definitely rate this albumn 5 stars. Unfortunately I have to give it 4 stars. I believe that this albumn would sell as well as it did if it didn't have that graduation song.

5 out of 5 stars brings back memories..........2004-11-06

i dunno about the rest of the album, but the song "Graduation Friends forever" really brings back memories of my graduation in 2000. that was the year it came out so we were the first class for which the song was really an anthem. they probably played it 6 times at our graduation dance and i remember it really brought a tear to the eye.

As if to remind us that radio pop isn't just for kids, Colleen "Vitamin C" Fitzpatrick turns up the grown-up sassiness on her second album. Its percolating opening cut, "The Itch," celebrates not just carnal urges, but also the other pleasures of serial monogamy--such as moving on. Similarly, "I Can't Say No" and "Dangerous Girl" speak up for giving way to sensation. Well-made like its predecessor, More shows Fitzpatrick moving closer to pop perfection without quite reaching it. (A cutesy cover of the Waitresses' postpunk classic "I Know What Boys Like" is the only full-fledged loser among these dozen cuts.) Smart production and conception--"That Was Then, This Is Now" borrows the acoustic-guitar gloss of Madonna's Music, while "As Long As You're Loving Me" ends the disc on a genuinely sweet (not saccharine) note--make More a winning answer to current formulas. 4 out of 5 stars A Little Hit-and-Miss, But Where It Suceeds, It Goes Beyond Pop.......2006-07-29

I love cleaning up my DVDs and CDs, remembering all the past times I played a certain disc, how much younger and innocent I seemed. Then, when I grew, I adjusted my ear to a more tune-full style of music, leaving my childhood fancies to gather dust in forgotten boxes.
"Vitamin C" a.k.a. Collen Fitzpatrick fell under this category for quite some time. However, as I have matured, I can now look back on my past loves and enjoy them for what they are: I've reached the age where I can appreciate what I crazed with at younger years.
Popping "More" into my CD player, a bit curious to what exactly it contained, I found myself . . . frankly: stunned! Some of the songs ("The Itch", "I Know What Boys Like") were not the cream-of-the-crop, but what really floored me was her grouping of electronic-influenced dance/pop music! Only in the world of Pop can so many different flavourings of various styles be accumulated under one artist, and this CD really does prove it.
I reveled in the beauty of "She Talks About Love", "Busted", "I Can't Say No" . . . they were all masterpieces of an era, plain and simple. I can definately see how this album wouldn't fly off the charts, but it definately made my day and has changed my somewhat biased opinion of Vitamin C forever.
She really seemed to enjoy herself, and this album is a perfect time-capsule into a specific portion of the 90's, with a feel of music that I can now adore and appreciate with all the other artists I've learned from since giving up on Colleen.
Amber vonTassle has done it again!

[3 Stars For The Music, 0 Stars For The Outdated & Crippled Enhanced CD Portion]

Vitamin C's "More" was originally released in 2000 by Elektra Entertainment Group (a division of Warner Music Group). "The Itch" music video on the CD-ROM portion of the disc ("Enhanced CD") is crippled using HyperCD technology. (HyperCD is the brand name for a way of removing a small slice of meta-data from a digital file such that the file is made unreadable. This process is called "encrippling." Only when the "encrippled" file on a computer is linked with the piece of meta-data on a web site can the user view the content.) Unfortunately, the video will NEVER be playable because the website was taken down a long time ago.

HyperCD technology absolutely sucks and gives me a good reason NOT to buy anymore CDs.

Let's see, where should I begin...

1. Running HYPERCD.EXE from the main/root directory of the CD installs files to C:\HYPERCD and puts an icon on my desktop without telling me it's doing this, and for no real reason anyway. This is the first instance of my hatred for HyperCD technology. Spyware does this kind of behavior. (I'll let it slide that this menu exe doesn't contain any real content, and is really pointless to have anyway.)

2. "The Itch" music video is located on the CD here: \content\Vc01.hlk. However the "content" directory is set to be hidden by Windows. There's no reason to hide the file like that. People who bought the CD don't have to be treated like pirates, though that's the basic premise for HyperCD technology when used in a manner like this.

3. The HyperCD browser plugin installer is located on the CD here: \SETUP\SETUP.EXE. However, the program runs in an endless loop on my computer. When it starts to run the second time, I quit it.

4. The plugin gets installed for IE (C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\PLUGINS\nphcd32.dll), but not for Mozilla. I had to manually copy/move the plugin to my Mozilla plugins directory. (The installer gives no indication of what the plugin is named or how many files it installs. The HyperCD.com website gave me the file name.)

5. Since I had to manually quit the install program, this of course means that my default browser (Mozilla - which the plugin was not automatically installed to) won't be launched, and I won't be taken to the site through which I can view the video. Thankfully, I found the URL of the website in this file \SETUP\HCDSETUP.INI on the CD. The website is: http://elektra.broadbridge.net/vitamin_c_001/index.html

6. If I try to go to that site, I get a "server not found" error message as that server, much less that page, was taken down long ago. This is why the internet should not be relied upon to provide exclusive content for a physical item. For example, the Jurassic Park DVDs gave you an exclusive "weblink" to online content on the making of the then in-production Jurassic Park 3. Needless to say, that "bonus feature" is non-existent now. Of course, that case is drastically different from this one. In the case of any CD using HyperCD technology, the content actually exists in the CD itself, but is crippled unless viewed from within an online webpage. It's one thing to have a link to content that can't be viewed, it's quite another to have the content itself but not be able to view/hear it.

7. Using the Internet Archive, I was able to get a copy of the files on that page: index.html, all images, and MOST IMPORTANTLY VitaminC_Vc01.hlq (which contains the missing portion of the video file already on the CD itself). Unfortunately, VitaminC_Vc01.hlq is set to *only* work if it's on the original web server (elektra.broadbridge.net). So even having an archived copy on another website or on my own computer won't work (Mozilla reports: "Error in server identifiers(008)").

Thanks to HyperCD technology, it looks like I'm going to be forced to buy the DVD for the movie "Get Over It!" which contains "The Itch" music video as a bonus feature. I shouldn't be forced to buy an additional product, at a cost of $10 more, for something that was advertised as a "bonus feature" of a product I already bought. That is just plain wrong!

By the way, the other content on the Enhanced CD are outdated copies of Java Environment (JRE13I), Netscape 6 (N6SETUP, N6UNINST, SETUP), Real Player 8 (NSRP8), Direct-X 6 (\SETUP\ DXM6PTCH, DXMEDIA), Spinner internet radio service (\SETUP\INSTALL SPINNER FREE), WinAmp music player - with Vitamin C skin (SETUP\INSTALL WINAMP FREE), ICQ Plus 2.05 instant messenger (SETUP\IPLUS205), and AOL 5 (\SETUP\AOL\).

5 out of 5 stars More - Ode to the Most Under-rated Singer!.......2005-04-30

It is an known fact that every new singer's second albumn always falls somewhat short of expecation. But when I bought Vitamin C's second albumn "More", I was totally blown away. I was already in love with her first albumn, completely enjoying her unique style and sweet voice, but I still didn't expect her second albumn to exceed her first.

The songs on this albumn are more hip-hopish than the ones in the first albumn, however, they still retain much of the "Vitamin C" style. I especially enjoy "The Itch" and "As long as you are loving me". I have to point out that "as long as you are loving me" is such a sweet and wonderful song that deserved more praises that it got.

With two great songs opening and closing the albumn, this production is definitely a success. I think Vitamin C might be the most under-rated singer right now, and I hope she keeps it up and produces more great songs.

With all that said, what are you waiting for? Buy it today!

4 out of 5 stars Great album.......2005-04-26

Way better than her last-there's no stunning material here-it's almost overly vanilla, but some tracks are irresistibly fun ("The Itch," "Dangerous Girl"). "Graduation (Friends Forever)," which to this day is Vitamin C's biggest hit, is a great song but it is so emotional, I really have to be in the right mood to listen to it. I'm going to graduate soon, so it at times makes me very sad. Anyways, this album is more for the frequent listens, it's lighter and more fun than her heavy previous hit.

2 out of 5 stars What happened to her?!?.......2004-11-16

She was kinda cutesy back in the day with "Smile", then she sassed up for her appearance in the movie "Get Over It". Did anyone else see her on MadTV? She was dressed up in a short little top and matching short little blue faux snakeskin outfit. Her vocals? They sound like Britney Spears, with not nearly as much of her own singing as there should have been. There's a difference between being sexy and having side slits on your miniskirt that go all the way up your thighs. Now, I'll admit, I've worn sexy clothes before. I'm not a 35 year old mom with kids who blames Britney Spears for my little girl wanting to dress like a 25 year old stripper. Basically, here's my thing. If you're going to come out and be sweet and pretty and melodic and PG-13, stay that way. If you're going to be sleazy and use your scantily clad body to sell albums, then do it. But don't come out sweet and then turn into a tart.

Import version of the album features the smash hits "Smile," "Graduation," "Me, Myself And I" plus the added track not available elsewhere - the upbeat, "The Only One."

My favorite tracks are "I Got You," "Graduation," "Not That Kind Of Girl," "Turn Me On" and "Smile."

"Do What You Wanna Do" was the theme song to the WB network for quite some time, and as we all know, "Graduation" was the graduation theme to an entire generation. It was a huge #1 hit. The album also features many girl power zingers.

This debut-album by Vitamin C is not as good as I thought it would be. When I listened to the singles 'Smile', 'Me,Myself&I' and 'Graduation (Friends Forever)', I thought that the album would contain more of these sort of songs, but it didn't. The songs aren't that bad, but it is not worth it to spend your money on this import, not even for the bonustrack 'The Only One'. If you want to get an idea of how this song sounds, go to the circus because you might hear it at some sort of clowns-act, it is really that weird (it sounds a bit like her song Vacation, from the Pokemon soundtrack). I think Vitamin C is pretty cool, but I only give her CD 3 stars because of the 3 singles, so think about it before you buy this import-CD!!!

5 out of 5 stars The Best Song All Around.......2000-06-13

Listening to this song gave me the chills. I think everyone can identify with this song. The lyrics are powerful but the artist makes it happen! I would recommend this great song to everyone I know.

5 out of 5 stars Oh... my... god.......2006-06-19

This is an amazing album, and Friends Forever is the most emotional song ever. At my middle school graduation this year they played it, and on the last day of school during a slide show of the year they played it - and it truly is one of the main reasons I cried. It has lyrics that make you think through you're entire school experiences (or year), and remember all the moments, all the jokes, all the heartache and drama - everything. Just listening to that song got me sad enough to hug the people who had annoyed me all year, and those who I hated - and even my teachers. It made me think, "I'm going to high school. Half my friends are going to a different one, and it will be hard to keep in touch. 4 more years until I have to face the real world. Oh my god."

This is a touching, thought invoking song that, although sad, brings back so many amazing memories it is well worth listening to. :D

Let me advise you, if you have children you should want them
to hear, see, and do positive things. Vitamin C two songs -
Smile & Graduation our tops -

We need positive thinking and we should be aware of the music
        our children listen to.

        5 out of 5 stars Good song!.......2004-07-30

Vitamin C's biggest hit. Ever. The theme to an entire generation of people, making this our generation's biggest graduation/going on theme to this point. There has been no song surpassing it in recent times, and it even makes lists as one of the greatest pop songs. The song was a huge #1 gold-selling smash stateside and sold millions worldwide. The lyrics are very emotional and poignant, complete with all the sadness of going away and yet it somehow makes you feel okay about it with a charming side. Truly Miss C at her best.

        5 out of 5 stars I CRY WHEN I HEAR IT.......2004-06-18

I love this song. Every time hear i hear it cry. The words express the way i feel right now. Even though it is just a middle school graduation some of my close friends are going to different high schools. It's maby not your friends you'll miss because most of them are going to the same high school but it is the school it's self i will miss. I was so happy a week ago that summer vaction was coming. Now i wish i would say in middle school. I just relized i have not talked about the song but about myself. sorry i just had to let it out. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

        1 out of 5 stars WOOF!!!.......2004-06-09

This song is now a fairly "oldy," but it NOT all a goody. The only place for this song is in the Trash Compactor. This song is like half a decade old, and I think we should move on and forget about it! It's not a song that will ever stand the test of time. It is WAY over-rated and I can't stand to hear it. Everytime someone plays it I insist them to turn it off, I HATE this song. It is now dead to me, and when I came out whenever it was played around me, I either changed the channel or station or muted it. There is so much good "real" music out there. I am a real music fan and I have an appreciation for all sorts of music, but this one is just nothing but spoiled dog food!

        5 out of 5 stars 2 great songs........2004-07-30

On this single, you get 2 great hits:

The Itch: this song was such a great dance song for the time it was released when there wasn't much like it. It still holds up well, too.

Graduation: The theme of an entire generation of people, making this our generation's biggest graduation/going on theme to this point. There has been no song surpassing it in recent times

1 out of 5 stars this is a cover song.......2001-05-01

i had heard the origanial of this song in '88! this is a cover song ok,go on cdnow and READ who wrote this "song" NO credit is there! that's because it's a cover song! this song is HIGHLY overrated in it'self! "friends forver" is a dillisional song about having a marge show up and saying "as we go on we remeber all the times we spent together as we go on from whatever we'll always be friends forever" this song itself gives a FALUSE sense of what REALLY happens after gradutaion! you will NEVER be missed after you leave. hell some schools are so packed your lucky enough if you get in the picture! this song just avoid it it's NOT worth listening to! it's so shallow and arrogant!

5 out of 5 stars Best Song in the world.......2001-01-22

Vitamin C's the itch is the best song i ever heard. The lyrics are really really catchy and the background music is very very cool. I give it two thumbs up. I extremely reccommend that you buy this single. It is the bomb. You will get hooked to the song and listen to it everytime.

5 out of 5 stars Is You Be Fellin' "The Itch" Again!!!.......2001-01-20

Vitamin C is a great singer and some people don't apreciate the meaning to "THE ITCH". Everyone took the thought of the song literally and were thinking of masquito bite, ect. The meaning of the song is cool and makes me love the song even more, and it flows more to the fact that someone is needing something or want something they had before and wan't back. The big heart stealer of this single is that is has a Remix of "THE ITCH".

        Track Listings:

1.) The Itch (Radio Edit) = This version is just like that of the original except the fact the it is cut short by about 30 seconds.

2.) The Itch (Original Version) = This is the version most of us are familiar with and that we have seen the video to on MTV.

3.) Graduation (Friends Forever) = This is Vitamin C' strong hit and by the looks of it, off her upcoming album "MORE" I'm sure she'll have at least a couple strong hits hopfully toping this one.

4.) The Itch (DJ Scribbles Club Mix) = This remix is just great being that it is the only remix that Vitamin C put out for The Itch. The beats to this are pretty funky, yet it doesn't sound anything similar to the original.

Peeps, you don't know what your missing out on, hurry up and buy this single, its well worth your money. Infact any remix is well worth the money. This single won't do you wrong, you will "LOVE IT LONG TIME"

        2 out of 5 stars A Mess.......2006-08-25

There was huge potential in this project, but it's really not been realised.

They dogmatically attempt to reproduce notes and harmonies from the songs 'as is' rather than rework creatively to achieve an overall flow. Songs are also over-complicated rather than seeking a purity of sound and harmony. This really jars, as this is where Massive Attack excel. It also feels over-produced (trying to make up for poor composition?).

I was hoping for something intelligently re-worked to fit the instruments used, such as Christopher O'Riley did superbly with Radiohead. Instead, this seems to be cashing in on the name rather than getting to the heart of the music.

        3 out of 5 stars Nice, although it's not Massive's way..........2005-10-09

The intention is good, but it is clear that Massive Attack has not been involved in this project. They are all good covers of Massive Attack, but I miss their style in the songs...
