Small choice.......2005-12-17

A very narrow delve in the great history of gay-aimed dance music, this seems to have been chosen by someone with a penchant for the Record Shack label which produced most of the worst Hi-NRG of the era. Or maybe they just had the cheapest licensing fees. The Carol Jiani and Paul Parker tracks are pretty good, but this doesn't make me want to dance as much as other 80's compilations you can buy. I still say that the best Eurodisco hits are from Europe (especially Italy) and were always better than the Uk or US contenders. At any rate, this is a far too blinkered presentation of what passes for a "gay classic".

Gay Classics, Vol 1: Riding The Rainbow.......2005-09-30

All that I can say is this cd is awsome. It has some hard to find classics in longer versions, like Eariene Bentley's "The Boys Come to Town". This is a must have for anyone who loves dance music.

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT CD TO OWN. I SEARCHED FOR THIS FOR YEARS. TRACK 4 IS THE BEST, IT BLENDS A PORN SOUND TRACK WITH CUTTING EDGE HARD HITTING BEATS. NO COLLECTIONS IS COMPLETE WITH OUT THIS.

Decent collection.......2005-07-28

If you have been looking for a copy of Apotheosis "O Fortuna" then you will get highlights of it from this mix of "Obumbratta." I know the ecstacy crowd will gripe at me (if they are not still high) for revealing this but why hide a good secret. The stupid single is too hard to find because of the hubris of some stupid conductor or engineer. Everyone needs a copy of the the quintessential rave tune. This might be easier to find than the single or the "Rave 'tile Dawn" original issue. There are a few other tunes the 90s nostalgiac might find worth owning.

Epitome of summer of 92--mislabeled, but includes O'FORTUNA!!!.......2005-01-12

For some reason, the CD insert on this disc says that this disc includes "O'Bumbratta" by Apotheosis--but when you play your disc, you will be shocked to discover that the included track by Apotheosis is their first classic, O'FORTUNA, the favorite with the chanting satanic voices--in its 5 minute extended form. Rare on CD, this is a must have. Not to mention, this volume in the series is loaded with the biggest techno tracks of that long hot summer of 92.

Mostly original hinrg mixes continue the series..........2005-08-26

Hot Productions does a good job once again of assembling many hard to get 12" versions on CD. Breakdown here:

1. Cruisin the Streets (6:24)
2. Stay With Me (5:23) (no, it's not the female singer of the 90s and today, this is a male vocalist from the 80s)
3. stormy weather (7:39)
4. I Like You (7:04)
5. Native Love (5:13) (this is the ORIGINAL hinrg mix, not that clunky breakbeat remix found on some Divine compilations)
6. action (5:09)
7. eat you up (5:45)
8. he's number one (5:36)
9. passion (9:02) (one of many mixes of this song, this version is very slow)
10. she has a way (5:53)
11. they say it's gonna rain (6:37) (the big disappointment here, this is a rerecording, not the original Stock Aitken Waterman production--the reason this disc gets 4 stars)
12. West End Girls (7:52) (this is the original Bobby O production, before the Boys had a record deal with EMI)

NICE SELECTION BUT AN UNEVEN MIX.......2003-04-19

I ordered this CD due to the fact that I danced to these tunes in the 80's and they were great songs.As I listened to the selections I had no problems with tracks one through four. The "Native Love" (#5) track sounded different than I was use to but I chalked that up to the fact that I had a different remix on a 12" single. Then came tracks #6,7, and 11. Where did these versions come from??? The compiler should have stuck with the original 12" mixes that people are familiar with from the Dance Clubs. The "They Say It's Gonna Rain" track is obviously from Hazell Dean's 'updated' CD (Hazell...what were you thinking???). If you are looking for the original Dance/12" versions of those particular tunes then pass this one by. If 'updated' versions of classic dance hits don't bother you then by all means reach for this CD.

this is when techno started going downhill..........2005-04-15

The summer of 1992 couldn't last forever...and this type of techno was the result of it ending. After the techno scene became oversaturated, technoheads tried to make the music progress, and it quickly lost that unique sound as they edged towards harder, faster beats, and skimped on originality--and good riffs! speed hardcore techno just had no personality, and sounded like a bunch of noise. And that's pretty much what you get in this final volume of the x-static series. Perhaps they should have stopped at volume 6, before techno had lost it's appeal.
