4 out of 5 stars Very pleased.......2007-06-10

I wasn't sure what to expect when I bought this CD. True, I could have listened on line before buying but that would have taken the fun out of the purchase. Besides, I really didn't care for the CD the first couple of times I listened but now I really love it. It's not something to listen to all the time but given the right circumstances e.g. a small gathering of friends, it's perfect. If I'd listened to online, I wouldn't have purchased it.

5 out of 5 stars Sumptuous and mellow.......2002-11-28

The six men of the King's Singers present sweet and light-hearted madrigals of such English composers as Morley, Weelkes, Dowland, Wilbye and Byrd. The thirty five selections include "Now is the Month of Maying", "Though Philomela Lost Her Love", "Sing We and Chant It," the celebration of tobacco entitled "Come, Sirrah Jack, Ho!" and a host of other fa-la-la-la-la venues interspersed with wistful laments. I love the rich, sonorous sound of a male vocal ensemble, with countertenors, tenor, baritones and bass, and these six singers do a great job. Occasional instrumental accompaniments by lute and tabor are included, but this group doesn't really need it--I could listen to them for hours all by themselves. Also quite enjoyable, as well as educational, is their earlier release, "The King's Singers' Madrigal History Tour: Italy, England, France, Spain and Germany". For a more risque' take on the vocal music of Renaissance England, you might get a kick out of "The Art of the Bawdy Song" by the Baltimore Consort with the Merry Companions.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best Collections of English Madrigals.......2002-03-27

Any fan of the King's Singers will regret not having this album in their collection.

This album offers a veritable feast of the choicest English madrigals found on any comparable album. From the obligatory "Now is the Month of Maying" and "Fair Phyllis" to the more obscure "Tan ta ra, cries Mars," there is certainly enough on this album to bring a smile to lovers of Renaissance music - and a spark of recognition to anyone who sang traditional madrigals in high school or university. For serious students of early music, this album comes very highly recommended.

Among the more sonorous offerings on this album, Jones' "Farewell, Dear Love" and Dowland's "Come Again," cannot be ignored. Nor can Bennet's immortal "Weep O mine eyes" be matched more musically than here by the King's Singers.

This album has been played again and again for almost 6 years as both serious listening and background working music. And it has yet to lose its delight.

4 out of 5 stars A Delightful Collection of English Madrigal.......2000-08-16

With 35 tracts to enjoy you're sure to find a couple of favorites. I gave this CD 4 of 5 stars compared to 5 stars for the King's Singers World Madrigal Tour CD. If you prefer all your songs in English, this will be your 5 star CD. Tract 32 "Come again" is my favorite due to the surperb tenor lead and melodic development. Compared to many polyphonic early music styles (1300s-1485), this era (1500-1610) provides many memorable melodies.

4 out of 5 stars A wide variety.......2000-04-28

This is an excellent sampling of English madrigals. This presentation, given by an older roster of the Singers, is a nice introduction to the world of the madrigal, and English madrigals in particular.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastically Wonderful Album.......2007-04-20

Singer/songwriter Griffin House provides a fantastic album full of outstanding lyrics and musical sounds. He does not disappoint. Have had this album since it first came out and I never tire of listening, with each listen I find something different that stands out and captures me.

5 out of 5 stars Soothing and funny..........2007-04-11

I bought the CD with some apprehension as my taste of music is very variable. I must say that I was hooked on to the songs immediately. All the songs are gentle and melodious and articulate well. Some of the songs are quite funny.
Would surely recommend it ...

5 out of 5 stars Another album you can pick confidently.......2007-01-25

I bought this album, along with one from Matt Nathanson and Amos Lee by following links here of what people bought when buying other albums in the same genre.
Well, I can say this album is really, really good. Along with Matt Nathanson and Amos Lee, those cds can play in my cd player forever on repeat and after a few hours I just start thinking "hey it's still the same cd in".

Yes it's that good and smooth. No track where you want to skip to the next, they're all good.

(yes I used the same review for Matt since both are in the same genre and as good)

5 out of 5 stars A real gem.......2006-11-07

I have been listening to this cd for almost a year now and finally had a chance to see Griffin perform.
He is awesome.
He has his own style and plays for the music. His lyrics are powerful and moving... I got goosebumps on more than one occassion.
Buy it, listen to it, you'll love it.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD, but kind of an acquired taste...........2006-04-20

I heard of this on CBS Sunday Morning and went out immediately and bought it. I just thought it was OK at first listen. After owning it for a couple months I pulled it out again and the more I listen to it the more appreciation I have for it. It's right up there near the top of my list for favorites.

Give it a listen (or two, maybe three) before you judge it.

The celebratory spirit behind tribute albums doesn't suit every subject. More than a single swaggering rock star has come off as limp and self-loving, and thoughtful chanteuses have gone sappy or sour--which is why saluting the California garage punks of Sublime makes a lot of sense. For one thing, it's nearly impossible to screw up the collapsed band's sunny, to-hell-with-it vibe--its music is a mood encapsulated--and for another, any artist cool enough to take on one of its songs knows instinctively to embrace the ska sensibility and not skimp on energy. What we get with Look at All the Love, is a party with all the right props. No Doubt was an obvious choice and, on the disc's only live track, "DJ's," Gwen Stefani turns in a mid-speed sway-and-bobber; Jack Johnson chills on "Badfish/Boss DJ"; G. Love goes for funk-rock broke with "Greatest Hits"; and the artful Greyboy Allstars send "Doin Time" to jazz school. A single caveat: Hipsters who followed Sublime in its mid-90s heyday and have since had kids should order tiny earplugs with their copies. Fishbone does an admirable job with "Date Rape," but it's still as profane as ever. --Tammy La Gorce

Album Description

"An impressively diverse cast of musicians from a wide range of genres [show] just how much Sublime's music transcends classification ... nothing short of stellar." - ALL MUSIC GUIDE

"Deliciously eclectic." - CMJ

"A tribute to Sublime as big as Bradley Nowell's heart and as expansive as the band's musical vision." - OC WEEKLY

The evening of October 24, 2005 was one very special night in music. The Music Box at Fonda Theater played host to Look at All the Love We Found: A Tribute to Sublime LIVE, a benefit concert to honor and celebrate the legacy of one of most influential bands of the nineties as well as to raise funds for those in need. Artists like Los Lobos, Unwritten Law, Ozomatli, Blackalicious, Fishbone, and The Ziggens came together for one night only to put on a show for the ages. And, to top it off, many of the artists from the evening (as well as some surprise special guests) teamed up to belt out Sublime classics in the ultimate jam session. Now, everyone can relive that magical night with this special CD+DVD combo!

The audio CD contains never-before-heard covers of Sublime hits and fan favorites, from a brand-new studio recording of "Ebin" by The Banned with Chuck D (Public Enemy) to a rockin' live version of Fishbone's "Date Rape." These incredible tracks were not featured on the Look at All the Love We Found CD, and can only be found here!

The DVD features include a performance of "Pawn Shop" with original Sublime member Bud Gaugh on drums, a music video for Fishbone's version of "Date Rape," and backstage interviews with Los Lobos, MURS, Unwritten Law, and more. It also includes an in-depth photo slideshow and a behind-the-scenes look at the all-star jam rehearsal that included Stephen Perkins (Jane's Addiction), Ikey Owens (The Mars Volta), Eric Wilson (Sublime), and many more.

5 out of 5 stars Great mix or Genres.......2007-06-18

This album is great for anyone who loves Sublime, but isn't afraid to hear their songs in a new way. I especially love the remix of "Get Out" and Jack Johnson's version of "Bad Fish".

3 out of 5 stars Nice sentiment - poor execution.......2006-02-25

I bought this album on the recommendation of a friend after we had a conversation about Sublime... we both really liked Sublime's music and he told me how great this CD was, so I picked it up. Unfortunately, I can't agree that the CD is that "great." I enjoyed one or two tracks, and I really laud the effort that went into them - it's never easy to cover another band's hits. But some of the songs are just bad - and with most of them I know I'd rather just hear the actual version. If you like covers and want to hear a bunch of different bands pay tribute to a great band that is no more, pick up this CD. Otherwise, just put in "40 oz. to Freedom" or "Sublime" and listen to the masters at work.

3 out of 5 stars If you are a true sublime you'll want to hear this.......2005-12-21

Obviously no one can do a Sublime song better than Sublime but what I like about this album is how everyone put their own style into each of the songs. They didn't try to sound like Sublime but at the same time, you can still imagine Sublime being involved with the making of these songs. The book insert has a little input from each artist on what Sublime meant to them which I enjoyed reading.

Notable tracks are Jack Johnson's version of Badfish/Boss DJ and Abstract Rude's Waiting for my Ruca. Los Lobos did a great job on Pawn Shop as well.

4 out of 5 stars Decidedly Good.......2005-10-21

I've heard the originals to almost all of these songs many times, so naturally I don't really have the same affinity for these that I do the originals. That being said, I like how diverse the sound is, instead of being true covers, the various artists take liberty to change/add lyrics and create completely different sounding songs than the originals.

The only reason that it's not a 5 is because of the track by No Doubt. Jesus christ I got about 5 seconds into it before I skipped to the next track. What where they thinking?

4 out of 5 stars an albom for the true sublime fans.......2005-10-12

first off, to all the haters: every band on this cd is like perfect. they are all bands that are willing to take a risk, no matter how much the fans whine. bradley would have been proud that such a wide, diverse group of people came together in the name of sublime. im sure he would be estatic to hear great groups like los lobos, spearhead, fishbone, ozomatli, and the one and only Michael F. Watt come to add flavor. new schoolers like filibuster and bargain music are obvious students of the sublime stylee and a smart choice. i am particularly piss'd at those who say avail was a bad choice. BRADLEY LOVED AVAIL!!!!!!!!(check the DVD). it just goes to show how little people actually know about sublime.

to the fans: this is basically an album of interpretations. each artist shows the listener why sublime is cool to them. it is fun to hear the individual spins each band puts on classic sublime joints. i loved pennywise doing "same in the end". also Los Lobos comes hard on "Pawn Shop".G-Love has a very cool take on one of the most underrated sublime songs "greatest hits". jack johnson comes with a typical jack johnson output, which isnt anything bad.the best is the Ziggens cover of "Paddle Out". the ziggens and sublime; 'nuf said.

overall this album isnt for people who want to hear a sublime cd. those people should all go buy "40 oz." and go kill themselves. its for those who want to hear others tell why they love sublime in song, and pay their respects to the masters of eclectic urban music.im sure bradley is smiling down on those who do.

The term Irish tenor may be fraught with as many wrong-headed, anachronistic characterizations as any phrase in music. But Ronan Tynan not only returns here to the PBS airwaves that helped spread his fame as a member of the Irish Tenors trio, but he overturns a few clichés while delivering a live concert (recorded at the Royal Dublin Society in June 2002) that encompasses everything from Broadway and pop chestnuts to Italian operatic repertoire. Tynan rewards Irish traditions old and new (a medley of Brian Kennedy's and U2's "Life, Love & Happiness"/"I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For") and even makes left turns into folkie songstress territory (Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now," Sarah McLachlan's "Angel"). Backed by RTE Orchestra, the unlikely international star invests himself completely in all of it, his strong, crystalline voice playing off the traditions, while forging strong new bonds with the contemporary. --Jerry McCulley

3 out of 5 stars Simply Wonderful.......2005-08-29

This CD is just as great as the more recent "Ronan" CD. I clicked on 3 stars in error. This is a 5++ star album! His voice is sheer perfection, and the songs are wonderful. I also highly recommend the DVD of "The Impossible Dream," even though I didn't care at all for the London Community Choir who sing four songs. Note: The American version of the DVD doesn't have the 25-minute "Dr. Courageous" extra on it that the Irish version does. I saw him in concert last month, and besides having a voice that soars to the rafters, he is warm, funny and endearing.

4 out of 5 stars Music like this could make me a convert.......2005-08-17

I've always been a rock and roll fan since back in the 60's. Listening to this cd could easily convert me into a classical music fan as well. Wow what a voice.

5 out of 5 stars Powerful!.......2003-01-22

Having seen Ronan in person recently in the U.S., I was impressed first and foremost by his singing ability, and second by his stage presence and warmth. He is a special performer and human being. I am proud to be a Ronan Tynan fan.

4 out of 5 stars Tenor terrific.......2003-01-18

I am not a fan of this kind of music, but I bought this after hearing a few sound snippets at amazon and WoW! what a find. Excellent song selection, powerful singing, fine music quality for a live recording. Expand your horizons and enjoy. (get this wayno)

5 out of 5 stars oh molly oh.......2002-12-15

ronan tynan is a great role model for adults and children alike. he was born with a deformity and made a decision he would make something of himself, he had a goal and he surpassed it. no one puts as much of their heart into as he. he puts the audience into his songs, he makes us feel he is singing to each one of us individually. HE IS THE GREATEST IRISH TENOR I HAVE EVER HEARD, INCLUDING JOHN MC CORMAC the great irish tenor of the 30's

For right-minded buyers of the reissued Muppet Christmas Carol soundtrack, the odds of disappointment are about as remote as Miss Piggy's chances with Kermit. If you loved the movie, you will love the loopy mayhem of the Muppet Brass Buskers ("Good King Wenceslas"), the cartoonish malice of the black-hearted misanthropes Marley & Marley ("Marley & Marley"), and the hope-swollen harmonies of Tiny Tim and Family ("Bless Us All"), Muppeted here to hilariously humble effect. If, on the other hand, your interest in this disc has more to do with its inclusion in the way-narrow Christmas-record-for-kids category--if the spirit of the season doesn't extend, for you, to the magic of the Muppets--you may want to keep browsing, as it's a soundtrack first (overture, instrumentals, and all) and a Christmas CD second. That's not to suggest you're stuck with an un-fun disc should it land on your holiday stack without a prior screening, though. Miles Goodman's score sweeps and inspires, and certain tracks--"One More Sleep 'til Christmas" and "Fozziwig's Party"--are future classics. (Note to the right-minded: After a misstep on the original release, Martina McBride's version of "When Love is Gone" is back.) -Tammy La Gorce

If your Christmas isn't complete without listening to this music, this CD is a must buy. The audio quality is excellent despite the age of the film. Michael Cain and Belle come out crystal clear in their solo and ensemble work. The surprise of this album is the inclusion of two tracks (one by Beaker and Bunson and one by Scrogge's primary school teacher) that are not in the film. They are fun but unexpected. I could only ask that the CD last longer with such beautiful traditional music, but alas there is no more music to include. Maybe they could market Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island together in the future?

5 out of 5 stars Good CD.......2007-02-14

My wife has been looking for this soundtrack for years. We were very happy to find it and get it so fast. This has some of the best music ever written for a movie.

5 out of 5 stars the muppet christmas carol cd.......2007-01-19

Amazing the songs are so cleaver and i have bee waiting for this for a long time, it has been out of print great cd and the movie is so awesome!!

4 out of 5 stars Holiday Classic with Kermit , Miss Piggy, and Michael Caine.......2007-01-12

The score from The Muppet Christmas Carol is full of the spirit of Christmas. The familiar story by Dicken's is given new life with the great score (mostly written by Paul Williams). Great energy is relayed to the listener as Scrooge (Michael Caine)is painted in words and as Bob Cratchet (Kermit the Frog) sings with his co-workers 'One More Sleep 'Til Christmas'. The love song duet between Scrooge (Michael Caine) and his fiancee during a ghostly vision brings great pathos to the character. For lovers of the Muppets and or Dickens, there is no better way to enter into the spirit of the season.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2007-01-08

These are some of the most heartwarming songs. I even find myself singing the ones about poor Mr. Scrooge.

On Love, Lost & Found, alto saxophonist Frank Morgan creates a breathy, intimate tone so calm and fluid it seems to be musical breathing. The result is an ultraromantic album that reinforces Morgan's status as one of the great balladeers of jazz history.

The 11 pieces are all vintage standards by the likes of Harold Arlen, Cole Porter, and Vernon Duke, but Morgan makes them extremely personal by turning the melodies into saxophone sighs that seem to confess everything. When he turns a melodic phrase from Hoagy Carmichael's "The Nearness of You" into an extended, legato exhalation, you can hear the ache of a man made dizzy by the proximity of his lover. By contrast, on Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Once I Loved," Morgan's limpid saxophone solos are imbued with the deep melancholy of a man who can still imagine that nearness but realizes it will never return. It's possible there's a better possible rhythm section for such a romantic album than pianist Cedar Walton, bassist Ray Brown, and drummer Billy Higgins, but it's unlikely. --Geoffrey Himes

4 out of 5 stars Ballads of Higher Standards.......1999-05-18

This devoted Charlie Parker disciple seems to have misplaced his hard-bob jacket someplace on his way to the studio. His earlier "Easy Living" and "Yardbird Suite" albums (on Contemporary & OJC) may be considered as his better works by many. Yet, anyone passing up this one is sure to miss the 'other' (read gentle romantic) side of Mr. Morgan. A real gem of a collection of top-notch 'ballad standards'. A warm and imploring horn is backed up here by a cool state-of-the-art rhythm section... class all the way.

A definite must for those candle-lit... late-night... wine sipping... private sessions.

5 out of 5 stars Phenomenal!!!.......2002-07-14

The first time I played this CD, I was in awe. The words, the music, her voice, all spoke to my very soul. It has become one of my all-time favorite CD's and I play it constantly. You can truly feel Spirit coming through on this one and know that it is creativity at its best.

5 out of 5 stars Caring and inspiring.......1999-12-20

Ms. Byars music is a reflection of her deep spiritual beliefs, a great compliment to Michael Beckwith's teachings and talent, also a part of this album. Her music is energizing, sometimes fun, and her voice is rich and strong.

5 out of 5 stars Thank You, Rickie Byars for connecting me with God!.......1999-11-23

I truly did find a "deeper love" for God and for all people listening to this music. Rickie Byars is truly mystical.

5 out of 5 stars Completely captivating from the moment you begin.......1999-07-15

As a liturgical musician, I'm constantly searching for music to use throughtout the year as well as special occasions. Advertised for weddings, these selections can be used throughout the year. They have become even more meaningful having heard both Jeanne & David in concert and perform at workshops. I keep it in my CD changer. Once you listen, you'll want it for your own as well.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent choice for a celebration of love and liturgy........1999-03-09

Very beautiful music from very talented people. I wish this had been available when we were planning our wedding!

2 out of 5 stars Instumental Only.......2002-05-03

INSTRUMENTAL!! Don't expect vocals. Other than that, it is a nice collection.

4 out of 5 stars Enjoyable by itself.......2000-03-30

The music is beautiful just for listening. The first CD could be used in a wedding. The 2nd CD contains instrumental versions of the songs which is soothing and peaceful; it could also be used in a wedding, but not for a reception. I did not buy this to use in a wedding - just for the music and I was not disappointed. It's a nice background for meditation, or remembering your own wedding. I just bought a second one for some friends who are getting married. And the price is right.

2 out of 5 stars Classical CD is great, but the other one is horrible........1999-11-17

The first CD is filled with popular classic wedding songs and is really good, but the last CD is music that would make your guests think they were trapped in an elevator filled with easy listening music. I cannot understand why someone would compile those songs for a wedding!

Stumbled over this CD in the close out sale for the Virgin Megastore in Vegas. What a surprise, it has become my top house mix CD for 2004 and has established itself as an instant classic. Can't wait to see what Blaze has in store for 2005. A must buy for any soulful house fan.

5 out of 5 stars Found love in Blaze.......2004-10-10

I've been a longtime fan of Blaze and this cd being the first dj mix by this duo I've actually managed to find a copy of meets no other. Blaze have kept their finger on the pulse with this one. Its truly a masterpiece without any doubt. If you are into deep house and just feel good music, one listen and you will be hooked until the next offering. There are countless dj mixes on the market, but anything by Blaze will surely be a gem so take my advice and pick up a copy before this classic becomes extint.

I went to Virgin Mega Store on 6/21, where Blaze and various other artists performed some of the songs from this CD, and let me tell you, it was EXCELLANT!!! This CD is a definite must-have! Kevin and Josh totally captured the vibrant energy from their events. LOVE IT!!!
