1 out of 5 stars Putrid.......2007-06-21

I think this series perpetuates bad music. Observe- If I were in a band, and we somehow got famous, I would be livid if my music somehow wound up on this or on Kidz Bop. Therefore, Musicians (who care about music and fanbase rather than money and sales) are inadvertantly discouraged to make music that sells!

Of course, this is not exactly the case, but I would make sure my record contract included a clause to keep me off of these albums, if that's possible

3 out of 5 stars 1,2,3...22,23,24!.......2007-06-15

It's not the first CD, but the 24th! Now 24 has all of the recent "chart-topping hits"!

The first song is "Fergalicious" from Fergie. I would much rather just skip over that. Then it's Rihanna featuring Sean Paul with "Break it Off". Anyone who loves listening to them separately loves listening to them together. Next, "Say it Right" by Nelly Furtado, a slower song that is forgetable. Singing "Irreplaceable", Beyonce has hit the charts once again. A somewhat slow but catchy song is okay for me. Number five is "My Love" by Justin Timberlake. Again, I would much rather just skip over that. Akon appears with Snoop Dog singing "I Wanna Love You". This song was a very popular song, but gets a little old after a while. Bow Wow, Chris Brown, and Johnta Austin sing "Shortie Like Mine". This song is a very interesting song to listen to. Llyod and Lil Wayne with "You" is just another song. Two thumbs down for me. Song number nine is "Promise". Ciara has also hit the charts, but I don't treasure this song. Omarion appears with "Ice Box". I would definitely skip over that song. Chris Brown reappears singing "Say Goodbye" on track eleven. If you like that style of music, then you might enjoy this song. Corinne Bailey Rae sings "Put Your Records On". A slower song, but does speed up and slow down throughout the song. It could grow on you, though. Lily Allen with "Smile" appears on track thirteen. Knowing whom Lily Allen is and listening to her all of the time, is interesting to know that she made it on the charts (and on this CD) for being a fairly new artist. "Suyddenly I See" by KT Tunstall is a unique song that really stands out on this CD. I love listening to "Here (in Your Arms)" by Hellogoodbye. It is somewhat slow, but is very different. Track number sixteen is "Face Down" by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. This song has a short story beneath the music; I love it! With constantly listening to The Fray, it doesn't surprise me that "How To Save A Life" is on the CD. A very sad and slow song is also amazing at the same time. Another sad but amazing song "If Everyone Cared" by Nickelback, which is absolutely amazing. Song after song, Nickelback is always perfecting them to once again hit the charts. On season five of American Idol, Chris Daughtry sings "It's Not Over" which amazes the "crowd" once again! The All-American Rejects appear on track twenty to end with "It Ends Tonight". It fits in perfectly with the sad and slower songs.

If you enjoy pop music, (or even rock or hip-hop), you would definitely enjoy this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent CD!!!!!.......2007-05-15

If you really need to be updated with the recent hits all around the USA, so you MUST buy this CD: it is an excellent compilation of all kinds of genres: rap, r&b, dance, rock and country. I missed only the hit THAT'S WHY I'M HOT by MISM. I hope it will be included on the next CD Now 25...

3 out of 5 stars Aceptable.......2007-05-13

Es aceptable, aunque no todos los temas son muy buenos. De todos modos, hay que elegir solo lo que a uno le gusta.

4 out of 5 stars great CD for music lovers.......2007-05-13

5 out of 5 stars great cd.......2007-05-07

If you want to hear lots of hits compiled on to one cd, then this is a great buy. I think the NOW cd's are great.

4 out of 5 stars An Excellent CD.......2007-03-30

This is a very good addition to any NOW fans CD collection or anyone's,
in general, as it has a good variety of music. I will do a track-by-track
review:

1. Fergie-London Bridge: Fergie is okay solo. This is not a great track,
by any means, but it is better than "Fergalicious". And it has a good beat. B-

2. Nelly Furtado feat. Timbaland-Promiscuous: Finally, Furtado releases
a decent song. This and "Say It Right" are awesome tracks and I'm glad she
finally showed her dancier side. A

3. Pussycat Dolls feat. Snoop Dogg-Buttons: I hate all Pussycat Dolls
material, and this is no exception. As before, a guest performer always helps add strength to a song by the Dolls. C-(for Snoop Dogg).

4. Justin Timberlake feat. Timbaland-SexyBack: I love this song, even though it was overplayed. It just has an excellent hook and Timbaland is
great, too. This is GREAT. A++

5. Christina Aguilera-Ain't No Other Man: Some funky beats elevate an
otherwise average Aguilera song. So-so. C+

6. Beyonce feat. Jay-Z-Deja Vu: Like Aguilera's addition, some good beats
help this song, as does Jay's rapping. It's an okay song. B

7. Cherish feat. Sean Paul-Do It To It: This song is really annoying, but
now I've got it stuck in my head. Note: It's not the Sean Paul you think.
D

8. Kelis feat. Too Short-Bossy: This song is kind of funny and has a good
hook, so I like it fine. B+

9. Chingy feat. Tyrese-Pullin' Me Back: This is an okay Chingy song, since
he's not as annoying as he usually is, thanks to Tyrese. It has a good
backbeat, albeit a repetitive one. A

10. Lyfe Jennings feat. what's-her-name-S.E.X.: This is an average song,
at best. It's a little too slow for me. C

11. Ne-Yo-Sexy Love: This is an okay ballad, but that's all it is. Nothing
to get excited about. C

12. Rihanna-Unfaithful: This is a bad song, with an annoying chorus and
Rihanna's singing sounds disjointed. Ugh. D-

13. JoJo-Too Little Too Late: It's surprising to find teen pop on NOW again. Not that I really like it. C

14. Nick Lachey-I Can't Hate You Anymore: I don't think this was that big
a hit. It's not as good as "What's Left Of Me", and that song is pretty
bad, too. C-

15. Teddy Geiger-These Walls: I like this. It's heavier than "Confidence"
and Geiger sounds better on vocals this time around. Nice. A-

16. Jessica Simpson-A Public Affair: I like this song because of its
bouncy hook, but Simpson's voice gets annoying at points: A-

17. OK Go-Here It Goes Again: As you probably noticed, I am a rock fan,
and this song is very good. It's a great rock song, overall. A+

18. Hinder-Lips Of An Angel: I usually despise rock ballads, but this is
okay for its guitar solo and because the singer actually sounds sincere.
A

19. Nickelback-Far Away: This is a good ballad, too, even though it is
Nickelback and I usually don't like their stuff. A

20. Keith Urban-Tonight I Wanna Cry: I hate wuss country. F

This is a good NOW CD, even though none of them have been really bad.

4 out of 5 stars Good for your MP3 player.......2007-03-30

I just wanted a few chart songs to add to my MP3 player. This fit the bill. Of course it comes with the standard songs you have no interest in, but that's par for the course with these types of CDs.

4 out of 5 stars Good mix of music.......2007-02-17

This is another great CD in the Now series. Contains a good mix of all types of music and artisits.

4 out of 5 stars a little better.......2007-02-17

This Cd is actually a little better than the last one. But i noticed that a lot of the songs that are on here aren't even that popular, such as jessica simpson, ok go, kelis, beyonce, lyfe jennings, ne-yo, nick lachey, and teddy geiger. i like some of those songs, but why are they on now 23? here is my list of ratings for each song:

1. Fergie- London Bridge: I knew this song was going to be on here, even though she released "fergalicious" about a week before now 23 came out and this song was forgotton. 5/5

2. Nelly Furtado f/ Timbaland- Promiscuous: The sweet nelly furtado has turned promiscuously hip-hop. what a transformation. 5/5

3. Pussycat Dolls f/ Snoop Dogg- Buttons: this is the better version of this song because it has snoop dogg in it. on their album, he is absent from this song. 5/5

4 Justin Timberlake f/ Timbaland- Sexy Back: jt's comeback single. he claims to be "bringing sexy back", but did it ever leave? other than that, good song. great lyrics. 4/5

5. Christina Aguilera- Ain't No Other Man: I love this song, but not this version of it. they blocked out the "a" word and it ruins the song because not only does it block out the word, but it blocks out the entire "oh yeah" that she says in the background, which is sort of disapointing because that word is not supposed to be blocked out. 3/5 otherwise, 5/5

6. Beyonce f/ Jay-Z- Deja Vu: I like this song, but what is it doing on now 23? it isn't popular enough to be on the now 23. but she has a new single called "irreplaceable" that IS popular enough to be on now 24. 5/5

7. Cherish f/ Sean Paul OF THE YUNGBLOODZ, NOT THE JAMACIAN ONE!- Do It To It- I like this song, but they block out the "D" word in it. that's my only complaint. 4/5

8. Kelis f/ Too $hort- Bossy: im going to give this the same rating as "do it to it" for the exact same reason. 4/5

9. Chingy f/ Tyrese- Pulling Me Back: This song is kind of boring. it almost puts me to sleep. 2/5

10. Lyfe Jennings f/ Lala Brown- S.E.X.: what is this? never heard of it.
0/5

11. Ne-Yo- Sexy Love: seriously, how many songs on this cd have the word "sex" in the title? 3/5

12. Rihanna- Unfaithful: NOOOOO! this song is ruined! they blocked out the word "gun"! i hate the now people for that and i will never forgive them! -100/5 otherwise, 5/5

13. JOJO- Too Little Too Late: WOW! this girl is my age (16) and has a great voice. if she would have waited a little longer, she would probably done extremely well on American Idol. the only thing about this song is that it is overplayed, but i'm used to it. 4/5

14. Nick Lachey- I Can't Hate You Anymore: this song is NOT that popular and shouldn't be on the now. he is singing to jessica simpson. he needs to stop singing songs about her. 0/5

15. Teddy Geiger- These Walls: What's this? never heard it before. 0/5

16. Jessica Simpson- A Public Affair: They did this on purpose! they put nick and jessica on the same album to make fun of their divorce. i don't know why they did it, but it's not funny! anyway, great song. my favorite on the album. it kind of reminds me of madonna's "holiday". 5/5

17. OK Go- Here It Goes Again: Once again, another song that isn't popular enough to be on the nows. great video. they are dancing on treadmills. 3/5

18. Hinder- Lips Of An Angel: REALLY hard rock. a song about 2 lovers who broke up, but only halfway moved on. they both found a new lover, but they still love each other. although the tone of the chorus doesn't match what he's talking about, good song. 4/5

19. Nickelback- Far Away: Nickelback's 3rd single from their album "all the right reasons". this song is also overplayed, but i like it when i actually WANT to hear it. 4/5

20. Kenny Chesney- Summertime: What's this? never head of it because i don't listen to country. i hate country music because it's all the same, which makes it boring. the only good thing about this song is the name. i wish it WERE summertime. it's freezing outside! -5/5

Here are some suggestions for now 24:

1. Beyonce- Irreplaceable
2. Fergie- Fergalicious
3. Gwen Stefani f/ Akon- The Sweet Escape
4. Akon f/ Snoop Dogg- I Wanna Love You
5. Rihanna f/ Sean Paul- Break It Off
6. Paula Deanda- Walk Away (Remember Me)
7. Ludacris f/ Mary J Blige- Runaway Love
8. Justin Timberlake f/ T.I.- My Love
9. Ciara- Promise
10. Nelly Furtado- Say It Right
11. Christina Aguilera- Hurt
12. Rob Thomas- Street Corner Symphony
13. The Fray- How To Save A Life
14. Stone Sour- Through Glass
15. John Mayer- Waiting On The World To Change
16. Fall Out Boy-This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race
17. All-American Rejects- It Ends Tonight
18. Daughtry- It's Not Over
19. Nickelback- If Everyone Cared
20. Country Song: Rascal Flatts- What Hurts The Most?
Carrie Underwood- Before He Cheats?

4 out of 5 stars Where it all begins.......2007-04-17

I bought this album when it originally came out in late 1998. Even though it's a good compilation for the most part some of the songs were already over a year old when this album was released. This would be corrected however in later volumes. Some of these artists aren't around anymore and some still are but this is definitely a good sample what was playing on the airwaves back then. By the way, notice how this album is totally devoid of hip hop music.

4 out of 5 stars a great replacement.......2007-03-14

i got this cd, because i misplaced the one i had previously. i love it!!

5 out of 5 stars Now That's What I Call Music Vol. 1.......2006-12-15

I started collecting Now CD's a while back, probably in 1998 or 1999. The reason I started collecting these CD's is because the Now That's What I Call Music series can open doors to new singers you've probably never heard of before. I enjoy listening to new songs and discovering new singers/singing groups, so I figured "well, why not? Maybe I'll start collecting these and see where it goes from there." That's how it all began for me. I still listen to these CD's today. The last Now CD I got was Now That's What I Call Music Volume 17, which has Bowling For Soup's "1985" on it. I used to go in order when it comes to collecting these, but now I only get certain ones for certain songs. Now 17 is an example. So, in conclusion, I highly recommend this CD to anyone who wants to hear new music.

4 out of 5 stars Vol. 1.......2006-07-17

This was the start of an onslaught of yearly 'greatest hits' albums, comp. of every track that's already been overplayed enough on the radio just for the consumer to overplay it even more on their stereo. This is the culprit for starting the revolution. Anyways...the idea wasn't a terrible one. Take the ost popular songs of the 'Top 40' year and throw them on one album, giving the average consumer a chance to score their favorite songs without spending a fortune. There are a few misteps every year, so heres the breakdown of Vol. 1.

When this was released I was a pophead. I was young and loved this kind of music. I listen to much more music now, still listening to Top 40 on occasion because it's mindless and nice to just vibe to with no agenda. Talentwise, pop stars are at the bottom of the food chain mostly because they can't play and or write their own music, but they do serve some sort of entertainment factor as long as you don't have to watch them try to dance.

Janet starts us off with 'Together Again' and she does alright. 'As Long as you Love Me' was one of my favorite Backstreet songs. As I said, I was a huge pophead at the time and loved the Backstreet Boys. Personally, don't much care for them anymore...Nick is too whiney to even be considered a good vocalist, while at least Justin Timberlake (of the much better N'Sync) can sing and dance and thus delivers a well-rounded solo album.

Sorry about that...

Fastball, Harvey Danger, Tonic, Radiohead, Everclear, Lenny Kravitz, Marcy's Playground and Hanson (dear god) deliver our pop/rock tracks and I will admitt that I loved, and still love 'Flagpole Sitta' as well as anything Everclear. Marcy's Playground was probbaly the biggest one hit wonder ever, and 'Sex and Candy' was worth the wonder. Good song, not perfect, a little overrated but overall still memerable.

KC&JoJo, All Saints and even The Spice Girls pull off good tracks. The point of this album is not to be the best music of the year but the most popular and, probably, the funest songs of any given year. These are the songs that will make you bop your head and tap your feet...even if you hate to admitt it.

Probably my favorite track here (and total proof of what I just said) is Barbie Girl by Aqua...I loved that song when it came out because it was a perfect satire and just cracked me up...and I was 12...so now it's even funnier! Great parody. The album is not at the top of my replay list, but it helps me remember younger days, when I was a kid and I remember them with a smile of my face! Not great music but decent and it serves it's purpose. I may not be a pophead anymore, but I can appreciate a good trip down memory lane every once in a while!

2 out of 5 stars Now that's what I call commercial garbage!.......2005-07-04

Maybe half of these songs are still remembered today. Another half of that half is garbage songs. How many people can honestly say they can still enjoy listening to this today? "NOW" compelations are the perfect example of how whats popular today may not be popular tommorow. Hell some of these songs weren't even good back when this was released. My advice, stear clear of this, future NOW compilations, and any other commercial mix cd's.

5 out of 5 stars The style is the man--and the song.......2001-05-02

Many composers have chosen to perform their own material and commit it to discs, with mixed results. Only with Noel Coward do we feel that a good deal of the charm of his numbers lies in the very way he performs them. For proof, we now have the Naxos Nostalgia (8.120529), which dishes up 16 tracks of the ultra-refined son of W. S.Gilbert, giving us six selections from "This Year of Grace," one from "Bittersweet," a medley of treasures from his "Cavalcade," another from his other works, and a few other trifles that are better than most of what is written today.

Add to all this two classical scenes with Coward and co-star Gertrude Lawrence from his "Private Lives," incredibly valuable for those local drama groups who butcher this work in that this CD can teach them the tone and rhythms that are essential in making this classic succeed.

The subtitle of this set is "The Complete Recordings, Volume 1: 1928-1932." So we can look forward to future offerings featuring this fascinating composer-lyricist-performer. Thank you, Naxos, yet again.

4 out of 5 stars Now it could have been better.......2001-08-05

Now 49 had arrived and as usual is better than it's US counterpart Now 7 but is weaker than might have been expected although on the face of it the tracklisting is fairly decent and does include a remarkable 8 UK Number 1's as well as 2 US Number 1's - more than Now 7 contains. Anyway all the songs that were big hits are included although there is one notbale exception in Shaggy's Angel as it is on Universal records who make the Now series and other exceptions are either on Sony, Warner or BMG records and their affiliates and they are not producers of the Now series in the UK. Here's the tracklisting and since there is no picture on amazon.com the cover is yellow/orange and tends to look a little like Now 6 in the US.

    Disc One: 01.Eternity - Robbie Williams (No.1) - nice relaxing ballad 02.Out Of Reach - Gabrielle (No.4) - another ballad and featured in Bridget Jones's Diary 03.Eternal Flame - Atomic Kitten (No.1) - terrible cover of the Bangles classic 04.All Rise - Blue (No.4) - incredibly cathcy pop/rnb song 05.Don't Stop Movin' - S Club 7 (No.1) - dancey pop tune 06.It's Raining Men - Geri Halliwell (No.1) - decent cover 07.Lovin' Each Day - Ronan Keating (No.2) - good rock/pop 08.Have A Nice Day - Stereophonics (No.5) - good one of the UK's top rock groups 09.Teenage Dirtbag - Wheatus (No.2) cathcy if irritating 10.The Rock Show - Blink 182 (No.14) normal blink stuff 11.Elevation (Tomb Raider Mix) - U2 (No.3) U2 at their best 12.Ms Jackson - Outkast (No.2) - US No.1 13.Survivor - Destiny's Child (No.1) - you'll know this 14.The Way To Your Love - Hear' Say (No.1) - UK's Popstars 15.More Than That - Backstreet Boys (No.12) - self explanatory 16.Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know - Britney Spears (No.12) 17.Close To You - Marti Pellow (No.9) Ex Wet Wet Wet frontman with first solo single - decent ballad 18.Thank You - Dido (No.3) - Thank You 19.Destiny - Zero 7 (N/R) - Mercury Music Prize nominees 20.Pyramid Song - Radiohead (No.5) - usual high standard

Disc Two 01.Electric Avenue (Ringback Remix) - Eddy Grant (No.6) - updated for 2001 - as good as ever 02.19-2000 - Gorillaz (No.5) - another great tune from the computer animated band 03.Do You Really Like It? - DJ Pied Piper (No.1) - amazingly catchy garage anthem 04.All I Want - Mis-Teeq (No.2) - garage pop 05.Another Chance - Roger Sanchez (No.1) - dance anthem 06.Romeo - Basement Jaxx (No.6) - has an indian feel to it 07.Da Hool - Meet Her At The Love Parade 2001 (No.12) - Remix of 98 dance classic 08.Castles In The Sky- Ian Van Dahl (No.5) - Excellent dance tune 09.You Are Alive - Fragma (No.4) - Eurodance 10.Here And Now - Steps (No.4) - good fun pop 11.Upside Down - A*Teens (No.10) - see above 12.Perfect Bliss - Bellefire (No.18) - new irish girl group 13.I Don't Want A Lover (2001 Mix) - Texas (No.16) - update of 1989 top ten hit 14.Never Enough - Boris Dlugosch ft Roisin (No.14) - the voice behind Moloko 15.All For You - Janet Jackson (No.3) - you know this 16.Who's That Girl - Eve (No.6) - catchy rnb 17.Ride Wit Me - Nelly ft City Spud (No.3) - good if censored 18.Dance For Me - Sisqo (No.6) - similar to thong song and just as good 19.Ring Ring Ring - Aaron Soul (No.13) - rnb 20.So What If I - Damage (No.12) - same as above 21.Lullaby - Melanie B (No.11) - nice ballad from Scary Spice who has now been dropped by record label.

Full of hits - really good value and better than Now 7

5 out of 5 stars A gerat item for your cd collection!.......2001-07-08

This was my first NOW cd from the series and indeed, it's my favorite! This cd contains music from September 1997 to February 1998, even if it's that old, I still listen to it. CD1 contains a mix of R&B and Acoustic rock ballads while CD2 cocetrates more on the dance scene. I'll mention the stand-out songs contained: CD1: All saints-never ever, Janet jackson-together again, Spice girls-Stop!, Natalie Imbruglia-Torn, Billie Myers-kiss the rain, Robbie Williams-Angels (BY FAR MY FAVORITE TRACK), Leann Rhymes-How do i live, Shania Twain-Youre still the one, Pulp-Hardcore amongst others.

CD2: Robbie Williams-Let me entertain you, Run DMC-Its like that, Sash!-La primavera, Aqua-Barbie girl, Steps-5678, Cumbawamba-Amnesia, DJ Quicksilver-Planet love (INDEED THE MOST OVERPLAYED SONG IN THE LOCAL CLUBS BUT STILL LOVE IT)Backstreet boys-All i have to give, Bamboo-Bamboogie, Lutricia McNeal-Aint that just the way

From these series I own volumes 39-47 but im missing vol. 42 and I have to say this one is by far one of the best ones!

      5 out of 5 stars Nice!.......2000-08-29

      4 out of 5 stars now 41.......1999-12-08

This CD is not bad. You will like it if you like pop music like Billie and Robbie Williams. There are also some club songs that you may enjoy. It is worth buying but it is a bit expensive unless purchased in the UK. Buy it anyway you will not be disappointed.

3 out of 5 stars At least you should have one of this collection.......1999-11-26

NOW series offers a large amount of songs for your enjoyment. I know the 75% of this record. The fact is there's many songs out of the S.American market. There's some who only works in European or Brit markets.

1 out of 5 stars "NOWS..." ARE A GREAT WAY TO HEAR DIFFERENT ARTIST.......1999-10-16

I have beening buying "Nows" for a long time and they always have songs either just out or never released in the US. Hey 40 songs for $40 it's always a great bargain. Much better than the new US versions. It's a must for my collection hands down no doubt about it.

5 out of 5 stars Great compilation featuring the best of European music!!!.......1999-04-01

Fantastic. Wonderful. Superb. Mars Cheese Castleriffic. Heart-stopping. Thunder-booming. Incredible. Touching. Sweet mother-lode of music madness. Splendid. Lovely. Nice.

5 out of 5 stars The Now Collection is the best........1999-03-14

I have been buying the Now Collections for the past 10 years. It is the best in the European Music.

      4 out of 5 stars Essential history.......2007-06-24

Hooray for Pavilion Records and all other organizations collecting early recordings and transferring them to CD for the world to enjoy! Of course since they are EARLY recordings (1917-1927) it has that fizzy wax sound to it and the lyrics get mushy at times. That either makes it endearing or annoying, depending on your perspective. It's lovely to finally hear the Brox Sisters sing again, let John Steel's tenor soar, and to hear what You'd Be Surprised sounded like sung by a girl. The earliest songs of Irving Berlin may not be his best, but are a refreshing glimpse into his 30s. Half of the songs on this disc debuted in Berlin's own Music Box Revue at the theater he built after WWI.
