As part of the in-demand Ram Trilogy group, Andy C was so of-the-minute in 1999 that it's tough to remember how long he's been part of the jungle scene--since Day One, when the music was called 'ardkore. This compilation finds him mixing together 20 tracks (only one by him) from the mid '90s, leaving behind jungle's early reggae influences, and developing a serious hip-hop jones. The emphasis here is on the beats: Pure Rollers says the title, and Andy C rolls out "Roll That S***," "Roll On," "Just Roll," "Rolling Number," and "Let's Roll." Get the picture? The style was called hardstep, or maybe jump-up, depending where you draw your line, and the argument made for it here leaves no room for dissension. Literally no room: the beats rolled out by Marvellous Cain, Dream Team, Benny Blanco, et al. are so relentless you're too busy keeping up to even consider opting out. --Jeff Salamon

5 out of 5 stars Dope Rollers!.......2001-12-31

Dont pay any attention to that review above, he obviously knows nothing of the RAW drum n bass sound. This cd was my first taste of D n B, and though it did not click with my ear right way it eventually caught on and I was hooked. This album has furiously deep basslines, some jump up, a hip hop hop edge, flawless mixes (no surprise from Andy C), a dark, yet refined and upbeat overall style. Its very very very rare to hear this kind of D n B spun live, or even produced for that matter, so if you like the new stuff see what was going back in the early 90's. This album does not dissapoint. - ...
