The club is cookin'; the band is hot and you just walked in--CRAZY !!!.......2007-07-12
Ultra Lounge, Volume 5: Wild Cool & Swingin gives us eighteen swinging tracks to delight your ears and make you dance all through the night! The collection of hits doesn't have a dud in the set; and the diversity of the artists couldn't be broader.
The CD track set begins with Dean Martin's classic interpretation of "Ain't That A Kick In The Head." The Nelson Riddle arrangement relies on the horns and the piano is awesome! Dean's voice is in perfect form--energetic and full of masculine warmth as he sings of his new love. A previously unreleased track of "Dig That Crazy Chick" by Sam Butera & The Witnesses follows; Sam & The Witnesses swing hard. Sam's voice is clear and full of excitement as he describes his new girlfriend. The musicians never miss a beat, either!
Bobby Darin performs "More" with sensitivity and panache; I love that piano arrangement by Richard Wess! Peggy Lee's classic rendition of "Fever" absolutely oozes the feminine desire for a man; the people snapping their fingers along with the beat really add to the number! Peggy's voice is rich and vibrant for "Fever." Excellent!
"Danke Schöen" by Wayne Newton will surpass your expectations if you've never heard this ballad before; Wayne sings this with all his heart. Wayne's interpretation of "Danke Schoen" makes his rendition THE definitive interpretation of "Danke Schöen." Jimmie Haskell's orchestra performs beautifully with a firm emphasis on the horns, percussion and strings.
If you want a more playful number, however, check out "French Poodle" by Sam Butera & The Witnesses. Sam sings this to perfection and the horns sound great on "French Poodle!" "Closer To The Bone" by Louis Prima continues in this vein; I believe that you will enjoy "Closer To The Bone" by Louis Prima.
The CD provides us with still more traditional love ballads. Nat King Cole performs "L-O-V-E" without a superfluous note; love that horn solo in the middle of this number! Moreover, Dean Martin croons "Volare (Nel Blu Di Pinto Di Blu)" with a great musical arrangement; I really like how Dean Martin sings this number in both English and Italian. Great effect!
Julie London delivers "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To" with all the style of a consummate performer; and the CD track set ends well with Bobby Darin crooning a great "Hello, Dolly!" Darin sings "Hello, Dolly!" with great care and sensitivity. "Hello, Dolly" provides a strong ending to the CD track set.
The liner notes include great artwork; and R. J. Smith contributes an essay about lounge singers and the nightlife of the late 1950s and early 1960s especially on the Vegas strip. The song credits and recording dates are there for you; and there are even two drink recipes! Bob Norberg at Capitol Recording Studios did a great job of remastering these tunes.
The very special, golden age of The Vegas Strip with its superstars of the 1950s and 1960s may be behind us but this album does a great job of recreating those special times. I highly recommend this CD for fans of lounge music; and people who enjoy classic pop vocals will cherish this CD for years to come.
Enjoy!
LOVE IT!.......2007-05-13
Love this kind of music - can't get enough - have most all of the CDs. Excellent New Jersey-based company with excellent foresight and retro-understanding for the best party and jazz combos. Excellent choice for any kind of day or evening, party or relaxation time.
I love the Ultra-Lounge series........2006-12-10
The sound quality of the Ultra-Lounge series is excellent, even though the songs were recorded mostly in the 50's and 60's. Capitol Records packs each CD with carefully chosen tracks consistent with the theme of the particular volume in the series. Many of the selections that appear here aren't available elsewhere, either because the original album on which the song appeared is out of print, or because the song was issued as a single and never collected in an album. A few 'previously unreleased' tracks also appear here. This series is a wonderful introduction to the music of a by-gone era, and each album includes detailed notes on each track (artist, writers, date recorded, how released, etc.). I heartily recommend it to anyone who has an interest in this type of music.
Great lounge/cocktail sampler.......2005-10-12
The UltraLounge series definately covers the genre throughly, and this one is about the best in the series. Not every song is well-known, but most are very very enjoyable. This is a good place to start if you are introducing yourself to the genre. I thought Bobby Darin's More was the most lush and enjoyable of the tunes. You'll get a chuckle out of Prima's Closer to the Bone, a song not found on the usual Prima samplers. You certainly get a "you are in old Vegas" feel off of these tunes! Check out their UltraLounge website for a good look at the full series. Definately recommended.
Grab a Gin and Tonic, sit in a booth in the back, and enjoy the show........2005-09-29
This is one of my favorite Ultra Lounge discs, as it combines many of the great live acts of the 50s/60s. If you close your eyes while listening to it, you may think you're sitting in the Copa room of the Sands in Las Vegas. A little Louis Prima, some Dean and some Bobby Darin make the night just right.

Great compilation - and that's just the first half........2005-09-14
I first got this on cassette in the summer of '94 and listened to it every day, drawn by its thematic range and compositional depth. And that was just side-one.
Elfman pioneered the sound that drives today's movie adaptations of comic-books and darker-themed children's stories. Side-One kicks things off with a rollicking, hyper-cartoonish theme from the first Pee-Wee movie - the one where Pee-Wee searches for his beloved bike. Elfman's theme contains layers of different rides - on tightropes, highways, in the middle of a NASCAR rally - which rudely yet melodically crash into each other.
The Batman entry actually contains several pieces - the opening credits, the extended sequence in the cathedral and the climax - which show Batman's darkened extreme at its "Frank Miller" best. (Dir. Tim Burton couldn't sustain the mood in the next sequel, and the franchise took a turn towards the camp of the TV series with the next 2 movies.)
The theme for "Dick Tracy" is perhaps the most romantic on this disc, a quality that surpasses the theme's comic-book origins, but ends on an ironic note that's pure Elfman.
"Beetlejuice" (opening & closing credits) gives Elfman's childish ID a chance to stretch its legs, or in this case, slam-dance.
"Nightbreed" is an enigma wrapped in a dark mystery, and that's just Elfman's score. Elfman's work on this movie is as good as the movie wasn't, having a more powerful narrative than the script - easily the best track on the entire disc, one likely to exceed the movie in its dose of chills.
"Darkman" doesn't quite rise to the occasion, though the score may be hobbled by the movie itself, which seldom surpassed one of the many "Batman" clones of the early 1990's. "Darkman" (the movie, I mean) excelled as a parody of many comicbook staples (the wronged hero, the relentless villain, the scientific breakthrough with just one flaw), but not enough to escape being largely anonymous. Within those constraints, it's still a moving if scary piece.
When is Elfman not like Elfman? When he was in the mid-late `80's and scored "Back to School" (A Rodney Dangerfield vehicle) and "Midnight Run". Horns in "School" bring it closer to Elfman's over-the-top style, while "Run" sounds like a love-theme for the run-down, out-of-the-way parts of America that seldom appear in Elfman-movies. "Run" is a fun score for a fun movie - it's nothing like Elfman's previous work but it perfectly captures the on-the-road-without-a-map craziness of the movie.
To this day, I don't know why I never ventured to Side-two, but it's irrelevant. Even half this disc is worth it
The best of Elfman!!!.......2005-09-05
I was obsessed about getting this CD right from when I heard about it. I found it at the library and was so excited about it, and it didn't let me down. In fact, it was a lot better than I expected. It's a fun and creepy (strange mix, but it really works!) collection of Danny Elfman's film and television soundtracks. The first track, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, is probably my favorite. Also, I really like Batman and Wisdom. Batman is creepy and dark, and Wisdom is just weird, in the best possible way.
I'd recommend this to anyone who likes film music, or everyone who is even the tiniest bit an Elfman fan. It's amazing!
Great Collection, A LIttle Too Eclectic.......2003-08-19
You should be able to tell from the movies and TV shows listed here whether or not you'd be interested in this collection. It's a little too eclectic for my tastes (hence only 4 stars) but better than volume 2. I think thatthe miscellaneous collected ites here along with the previously unreleased stuff should make this worth buying. Especially if you're a fan of Elfman's movie soundtrack work.
What Great Music.......2003-05-11
I fell in love with the music of Danny Elfman when Beetlejuice came out. There was something different about the music that he made. When Edward Scissorhands, and then Nightmare Before Christmas - I knew this man was a musical master. Its the verbal form of surrealism.
super.......2003-04-17
What a great CD. Danny's music is so original and inventive. this CD contains his pre 90's quirky, gothic music. it's all very well written and beautifully orchestrated. batman and darkman contain some really excellent long, dark, gothic cues that really take u away from reality. in my opinion no one, apart from howard shore, is as inventive and original as danny in the world of filmmusic. he far surpasses the repetitive works of williams or horner. buy this, and volume two, and keep supporting one of the greatest film composers of all time.ohh...and buy fellowship of the ring and two towers by howard shore....amazing work!

The back of this two-CD set may say "File under Lounge," but frankly, lounging will be the very last thing on your mind once you put Louis and Keely on. It's simply impossible to stand still while the duo, backed by Sam Butera and the Witnesses, gets going. When Keely sings "Hey boy, I can really cook," there's a tiny chance she's talking about something that takes place in the kitchen, but the galloping bass line behind her says that she really belongs to the dance floor. Whoo-hee! Cole Porter's "Just One of Those Things" is taken at a frenetic pace--do these people ever pause to breathe? The bulk of this collection was recorded between 1957 and 1962, and it makes for an explosive document of a now-gone era when men in sharp suits hung out at the Copa, babes with pointy rocket-launcher breasts at their arms. The sheer effortlessness of it all is still supremely exciting. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
Customer Reviews:
fun swing.......2005-02-12
i just started to appreciate louis prima's band-this remastered double cd offers an excellent listening experience.
Jump, Jive, An' Wail!.......2004-06-17
Songs from Louis Prima and Keely Smith with Sam Butera and the Witnesses. Songs are great. Compilation includes songs from "The Wildest", "The Call of the Wildest" and "The Wildest Show at Tahoe".
Fast, funny, and worth every penny!.......2002-09-09
I was skeptical about buying a compilation CD set for fear it wouldn't be good... but I was wrong! I can't get enough of these CD's. I do Swing dance and Lindy Hop, and I think some of the tempos to these songs are a bit fast for dancing, but excellent for listening to when you just want to be in a good mood! Keely has a great voice, and Louis is just plane hysterical :D
A trip to the Moon on nuclear wings!.......2001-12-08
What a blast!
This was my first introduction to Mr. Prima & Co. What a swingin' treat!
You can tell from each and every cut on this twin CD set that these guys were having fun. Many of the songs have little ad-libs between Louis, Keely Smith, Sam Butera, and the other band members. Louis jumps in between solos to throw out comments, he'll scat, even proto-rap, and is having such a good time he'll try to keep from laughing while he and Sam duel with brass. Only true professional musicians can get away with that sort of thing and make it sound good. Louis & Co. are top-notch pros.
Keely solos on a few cuts to round things out, and basically, you get the feeling of what it must have been like to be kickin' it in Vegas back in the swank era while taking in Louis Prima's act. Maybe tomorrow night, you'll catch Dino at the Sands, and take in Torme on Tuesday. Or, maybe you'll just keep coming back here to see Louis, Keely, Sam, and the Witnesses again and again.
Many of the songs are just plain fun ("Robin Hood/Oh Babe", "Banana Split For My Baby", "Felicia No Capicia", "Greenback Dollar Bill", "There'll Be No Next Time"), and even the old standards take on a wink and a smile when Louis gets ahold of them ("The Music Goes 'Round And Around", "That Old Black Magic", "Just One of Those Things", "Embraceable You")!
Get yourself a martini, sit back and relax, and get ready to be swung back to swanksville. This set is one swingin' good time, whether you're six or sixty!
Fun with the swing masters.......2000-11-09
Louis Prima and Keely Smith with Sam Butera and the Witnesses constitute probably the single greatest influence on today's swing scene. I am not exaggerating. And this double-CD is a great place to start: Over two hours of remastered music, a great production design (neo-retro), and long liner notes. My only problem with the presentation is that the individual musician credits are left out. A must for all swing dancers and jazz musicians! ///// KOBY.

Wild, Cool & Swingin' Too is #1 in my book.......2006-10-10
Don't get me wrong - I've got most of the Ultra-Lounge discs and I love them all - but this one is the best. Each disc focuses on a facet of Lounge music (Bossa Nova, Mambo, Exotica). Most of these are a kick in a "They sure did some crazy music" way, but the two Wild Cool discs focus on the more popular acts of the era.
The disc is hopping starting off with Eydie Gorme in a blistering read of the latin classic "Frenesi". Steve Lawrence follows with a barnstorming take on "Night and Day". I can't even listen to Sinatra's version without falling asleep now. The pace doesn't let up with Bobby Darin's phenomental "Charade" and Nancy Wlson's "A Lot of Livin' To Do".
Dinah Washington contributes the hot jazz classic "Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby" (a.k.a. the song from the Tom & Jerry classic) and the sultry "Destination Moon". Tony Bennet does "Plenty of Money and You" which was featured on the Swingers soundtrack. Mel Torme sings the cheeky and hilarious "Midnight Swinger".
Other standout tracks include everything. No seriously, there isn't a bad track on the disc with one outstanding cut after another. If you want some classic lounge tracks, you've found them. I think this is better than Wild, Cool & Swingin', but it's great, too, so why not buy both of them?
Perfect for the midnight swinger in all of us!.......2006-07-26
This CD is chock full of great songs performed by some of the greatest talents of the 20th century. There is a total of twenty-one (yes, twenty-one) tracks on this CD making it both a lot of fun and a great value. It's also excellent for lounge music lovers and fans of classic pop vocals.
The CD starts off with Eydie Gorme doing a smash "Frenesi." The song is beautifully arranged and Eydie's voice is in excellent form. Her other half, Steve Lawrence, follows up quickly with the beautiful "Night And Day." Awesome!
The songs on this CD are all wonderfully musically arranged and the quality of the sound is excellent. No excess noise here! Bob Norberg at Capitol Recording Studios did an excellent job of digitally remastering these tracks.
I loved Nancy Wilson's electric version of "A Lot Of Livin' To Do;" and Peggy Lee does some hot job of "The Boy From Ipanema." Bobby Darin fans will delight that two of his songs are on this CD: "Charade" and "Call Me Irresponsible." Dinah Washington fans get an equally nice treat; Dinah sings both "Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby" and "Destination Moon" on this album.
Wayne Newton does a particularly good job with "Strangers In The Night" and I also liked the style with which Louis Prima delivers "5 Months, 2 Weeks, 2 Days." One playful number that I really enjoyed was the medley of "Just A Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody" by Louis Prima. A chorus accompanies Louis on this number and the result is thrilling!
The liner notes are very, very good. You get song credits and the dates the songs were recorded by the artists. There's an extensive essay by R. J. Smith--and there are even two drink recipes: one for a "blue blazer" and the other for a "millionaire." Not bad, not bad.
I highly recommend this CD for fans of classic pop vocals, lounge music, and the great vocalists of the 20th century such as Tony Bennett, Dinah Washington, Louis Prima, Dean Martin and Bobby Darin. All these performers and many more can be found attacking their songs with all their might here on this CD! Get this CD, turn down the lights and enjoy your favorite drink--and maybe enjoy a little romance while you do!

Customer Reviews:
Best Darin Ever.......2005-02-22
This is awesome Darin- Richard Wess arranged many of these songs, and his collaborations with Bobby were by far the best. There are other "swing" collections - this one is the best.
Great album, I've been listening to it constantly.......2005-02-18
Even disregarding the rock he began with and the folk he did later in his career, Darin sang a broad range of music. This album features show tunes, standards, at least one of his own songs ("Gyp the Cat", too much a "Mack the Knife" knockoff to be taken too seriously), and current pop. I find his treatment of the last most compelling. The Sixties were a period when the old songwriting lions were beginning to pass from the scene, and when too many pop ballads, their writers striving too hard for relevance or romance, delivered overripe songs not up to the standards of the previous few decades. (All that "I Gotta Be Me" stuff. Yecch. Or songs full of strings no longer leavened by Cole Porter-style wit.) Darin here performs, with few or no strings, songs like "A Taste of Honey" and "More" - saccharine in most singers' hands - with enough punch to make them not only worth listening to but genuinely good. This album features cleaner arrangements than some of his others like "Swingin' the Standards", and these songs are genuine as a result. Every song here, depending on the listener's taste, is good. My favorite cuts include "As Long As I'm Singin' "; "Sunday in New York"; "The Good Life"; "Call Me Irresponsible"; "I Got Rhythm"; and "More." On "Hello, Dolly" - not generally one of my favorite songs - check out his final high note. But really, I like them all. Bobby loves to find new ways to do songs; his swinging version of "This Nearly Was Mine" from "South Pacific" is meritorious. Damn, he's good.
Highly Overlooked Performer.......2004-12-05
This is a great CD. What a performer Bobby Darin was. He had a very distinctive voice and style that really captured the heart of each song. I really like "Sunday In New York" quite a bit. It really swings. I also like his rendition of "A Taste of Honey" very much. The perfect Bobby Darin CD!
You Like Dino? You'll Love Bobby!.......2004-07-11
This collection is a fine showcase of Bobby's talent. Bobby Darin had unparalelled panache to go along with his musical brilliance. The old finger-snapper had more charisma in his two syncopated fingers than today's top ten "artists" have in their collective, overly-exposed bodies. He was cool. He was hip. He was the natural successor to Frank and Dean in the hipster Italian-American pop singing tradition. Indeed, he probably had more natural talent than either of his predecessors (and I am a huge fan of Sinatra and Martin). The only thing Darin lacked was a healthy heart. Otherwise, he might well have been the greatest of them all.
Bobby Darin is swingin' and sounding great!.......2004-06-19
I never knew Bobby Darin sang such great songs. His style and cool swag makes these songs a real treat. Tunes like "sunday in New York" and "a Rainbow 'round my shoulder" are fantastic. Rarely do i listen to an artist or an album and find that each song is better than the last and it just builds. The arrangements on each track is superb, with great horns and strings that seem to envelope Darin. His "hip" inflections during these songs, even though they are covers, make each one his own.If they ever come out with a definitive "soundtrack" for Las Vegas in the 60's and 70's, Darin would be right on top with these cuts. Darin left us way too soon, but his legacy Lives on. If you like the swingin' sounds of "ultra-lounge", You will be more than pleased with this CD. Bobby Darin was "cool" and this album let's us know how great he was , every time you listen.

Customer Reviews:
We love Mrs. Miller!.......2007-07-05
Prior to purchasing this album, I previewed the songs on iTunes and was laughing to the point of tears. When I shared it with my husband, he recognized the voice, and *kind of* recognized the songs and it became an instant classic in our household. (We even played "The Shadow of Your Smile" at our wedding!) I don't know what Mrs. Miller's deal was, but it seems that she took herself pretty seriously which, of course, only makes this album even more funny.
artistic interpretations by punk anti-diva.......2007-06-01
mrs. miller was no william hung. classical, jazz, pop, punk, non-western musical scales, atmospheric interference, champagne with ding dongs, plate techtonics, evisceration, a pop fly with a full count and the bases loaded, plutonium- this lady has it covered. respect.
Perfect if you like Mrs. Miller.......2007-03-19
The campiest album ever made. She forgets words, warbles like crazy and sounds just awful. It's so much fun.
It's Miller Time!!!.......2007-03-09
Good Lord, what was she thinking?!!
Evidently, Mrs. Miller was quite serious about making music. But after hearing this CD featuring her greatest misses - er, uh hits - it's hard for anyone listening to keep a straight face. Play this CD for your friends and watch the expressions on their faces - anything from shock, to confusion, to utter hysterics. Priceless entertainment!
Whether she's warbling her way through songs of the 60s from groups she no doubt ever heard of, or adding her unique take to the classics like Moon River - where she stops singing and starts speaking in French - this woman was one of a kind. Thank God! One of my favorite moments (among many) on this crazy CD is when Mrs. Miller decides to speak the lyrics to Moon River: "We're afff..........FFFFter the same, rainbow's end...". Sheesh! Another great 'Miller Moment' is during an instrumental break in 'Girl From Ipanema' where she riffs: "Daba Daba Da.....Daba Daba Da!" in her wild vibrato that you could drive a semi-truck through.
Mrs. Miller probably had no clue that people would still be listening to her music in the 21st Century. I'm just surprised that this CD is still available. But I'm also very grateful that it is. She may not have appreciated being laughed at, but at least she's still being appreciated for the rare and unique....uh...talent, that she was.
Bravo!.......2007-01-04
Mrs. Miller hits all the right notes so perfectly wrong. May this lovely woman with the bird-like voice rest in peace.

Nothing but hits.......2001-01-31
As with their first collection of label highlights, Hyperion's new two-disc collection provides a broad sampling of their exceptional catalogue and performers. Particularly rewarding are the selections from Beethoven (Scherzo from String Trio in C minor, op 9 no 3, performed by the Leopold Trio) and Thomas Tallis (Salvator mundi I, performed by the Winchester Cathedral Choir), but experienced and novice listeners alike will find much to enjoy on these discs. It's also a good value--more than 2 1/2 hours of music for less than $10.

WONDER WHO INSPIRED DIANA KRALL'S SINGING STYLE? LOOK NO FURTHER..........2007-05-01
... because DK's source of inspiration is the real deal - sexier and more expressive, she's a blast from the past worth checking out.
Julie London Ultra Lounge CD.......2007-01-07
Audio quality of digital re-mix excellent.
EQ especially of voice really tops.
Music must be via a well recorded original studio master, i.e.not a live concert (with inherent remastering problems) All in all a super update. Received airmail in Australia in good condition.
Julie London great.
S-E-X Appeal.......2005-01-11
Yeah, pals and gals, Julie didn't have the range of Ella, but she brought sexiness to the table . . . in double doses. While Doris Day made a career out of being the "eternal virgin," Julie didn't even start recording until after she had kids! Once you hear her sultry, throaty voice on these tunes, you'll never forget it . . . and it will definitely put you "in the mood for love." This particular collection leaves out a few tunes (most notably, her signature "Cry Me A River"), but the inclusion of some little gems like "Nice Girls Don't Stay For Breakfast" makes this collection a winner. So mix a shaker of martinis, put this on your player, turn the lights down and curl up with your sugar!
Never really out of date, these songs and this singer..........2002-02-19
I began to explore "Grown-ups music" ...in 1957. Julie London was not the top-rated "diva" of that era, but she certainly was the most sensuous...The performances are indeed sexy and great. Alas, in this compliation, the cover art is cartoonish and inappropriate. This is probably not the best Julie collection still available, but it ain't bad. There are 22 cuts, and at least half of them are wonderful. The other half are either a bit dull or a bit silly, but still listenable. The CD is certainly worth the price if you like adult women singing sophisticated material in a dreamy, low-key jazzy lounge style...My favorites: "You'd be so Nice to Come Home to"; "Makin' Whoopee";"Blues in the Night"; "You and the Night and the Music"; "Go Slow", and "Love for Sale." Julie London even makes the famous Mickey Mouse Club theme an exercise in arousal. If you like Sinatra's work in the "lonely or unrequited love" genre, you will also dig Julie's. I think "Wild, Cool & Swingin'" to be a bit misleading as a title...the overall tone of this collection is a bit more subdued...but that's not bad. The subtitle "The Artist Collection" is more right on...Julie was an artist. There is a great website devoted to her...find it with a Google search. And buy this one before it goes out of print.
The Absolute best!.......2000-07-21
I just started listening to Julie recently, and let me tell you, she is the best lounge singer there is! It's so unfortunate that she never did any more recording then she did. I am a fan of her and her "Emergency!" co-stars,but I never knew she could sing as she did! By the way--"Emergency!" rocks--don't let anyone tell you otherwise! Anyway, if you are a fan of lounge music, definitely purchase this! It is a complete refresh!

Customer Reviews:
LOVE THIS CD !!!.......2007-03-11
I was looking for a recording of Londonderry Air performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra/Eugene Ormandandy. After listening to several sample clips on this CD, I ordered it. The entire CD is beautiful and relaxing. It's become one of my favorites.

Customer Reviews:
Geriatric"boy singer".......2006-11-17
When Wyane Newton first burst upon the scene some forty years ago, singing"danke Schoen"and"daddy don't you walk so fast" he WAS a boy singer, with a boy's unfinished voice...He still has that same voice today, sounding for all the world like some neutered slouch crooning at the local gaybar...Newton went on to an interesting career as a one-time vegas casino mogul,he played the villian in one of leslie Neilsen's"naked Gun"movies, and currently spends a lot of his time in Branson,Missouri, the poor man's Atlantic City, singing falsetto lounge for retired housewives and other geriatrics...If this is what moderns think "lounge"is all about then they are sadly mistaken...Like Mrs Miller and quite a few other notable goof performers, these acts always were of the"NOVELTY"sort, like Jerry Lewis crooning "Rock a bye your baby with a dixie melody"...Indeed,listening to Lewis ,Newton, and Mrs Miller side by side,I find it hard to tell them apart...
Paul Wall.......2005-03-28
Wayne Newtons album was of the heasy pho sheasy. This man tore it up from track to track...I couldnt get way from his phlow. My custom tens were pounding in the back of my street sweeper while I was ridin on my pho pho's. Wayne's voice was deeper than usual, but still, his flow set off the show fo shizzle. Last weekend I busted into the club and Newt was on and I was like "HHHHHHHEEEEEEAAAAYYYYY, Newt in the house". He really got the club bumpin. Wayne wasnt frontin, he wasnt slumpin, he was keepin it real well into the '05.
Energetic, Yet Wearisome.......2004-03-19
I like to come home after a hard days work at the munitions plant, get a cold drink from the 'fridge, sit in my favorite chair, and listen to Wayne Newton until my microwave dinner is ready. "Toot, Toot, Tootsie, Goodbye" has got to be the best version ever recorded. "Strangers in the Night" puts the listener into a melancholy mood that Frank Sinatra's version fails to achieve. Newton is one of the most expressive male vocalists I have ever heard, but he occasionally sounds more feminine than Barbara Streisand. Hey Wayne, "Danke Schoen".
Weird and Wonderful at the same time.......2003-03-24
After watching the movie Man on the Moon, I fell in love with the song Volare. (even though the guy wasn't serious when he sang it) I looked all over the internet trying to find a version of that song. I heard a clip and fell in love with this version. When I saw that it was Wayne Newton, I kept saying, "No way! this is a woman singing" I couldn't get over it so I bought the CD. Lo and Behold, it really was Wayne Newton. My husband and I love this CD. We are secret listeners because no one would believe that we like this kind of music. Buy the CD, you will be swing dancing in no time. You won't be able to help yourself! It is great
I could almost hear the ice clinking in the glasses.......2002-03-10
Sip it slowly. This cd is near perfect. Relax, and turn the lights low. Because you are about to be entertained like no other swingin cat can entertain!! This cd also is the perfect cocktail music. You'll feel the lush surrounding, you'll smell the smoke, and you'll hear the ice clinking in the glasses. Frank may be the ultimate cat, but let me tell you, if you like good music from an era gone by, then this cd by wayne should be in your top 10. Enjoy. I need to refill my martini.
