New York Memories.......2007-05-19

I enjoy André Rieu DVD Concerts very much. His New York concert was good, but I found it a bit ironic. He said that he enjoyed palying American music and yet a large part of the Broadway music he played was composed by a British composer Andrew Lloyd Webber. I was expecting to hear Irwin Berlin, Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, Copland, or even the Beach Boys. What happened? I miss the performances of Carmen Monarca and the other Sopranos. The The Harlem Gospel Choir was good, but seemed out of place with what André usually plays. I was hoping to hear a tribute to the heroes of 9/11, but did not. Basically in did not match up to his others such as Tuscany.

Wonderful CD. I love all Andre's music and think that he can play any style perfectly. The violin solos are magical, his soloists are at the top of their form and the orchestra is once again magnificent. It's a very varied CD which makes it easy to listen to it again and again. And I do!! Would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys Andre's music or who just enjoys quality orchestral music in general.

A Message of Peace and Love Through a Special Man.......2005-08-07

While many would baulk at trying a hand in fields alien to them, Pope John Paul II was not one of them. He definitely also walked the talk which is probably why he has left behind countless numbers of admirers. His maxim "Do not be afraid" is something that sticks with me after his death in the context that he meant to not be afraid to do the right thing.

Unafraid, the great man has gone and made a cd with prayers and exhortations to do good that I found very soothing and gave me a very peaceful feeling after listening to it. It's definitely an album to be experienced rather than just listened to in the usual sense to of the word.

I notice Sony has decided to classify this as Classical given the Sony Classical label attached to this cd but I suppose the content defies rigid classification. For those who loved the man, this is a good rememberance to keep; for others, this is also a good listening experience with solidly-produced sound as well.

Deeply Moving.......2005-04-11

I purchased this CD several years ago, listened to it once or twice, and then put it away, quite unimpressed. It seemed like a hamhanded attempt to cash in on the New Age music phenomonen.

Whether I have changed in the last few years, or whether the demise of Pope John Paul II made me listen more closely, I don't immediately know. I do know, however, that this is an excellent CD; comforting, inspiring, and far from a New-Age ripoff.

The producers and composers have assembled a fascinating sample of John Paul II's prayers, statements from homilies, etc., and have grafted these atop an eclectic orchestration, weaving in Latin chants, Polish prayers, and African rhythms in a surprisingly effective way.

Of notable impact are the Pater Noster in the song Abba Pater (sung first by John Paul II and then by a male choir), the Inno di Pentecoste segment of Vieni, Santo Spirito, the distorted & strangely clipped Polish Pater Noster in Padre Della Luce, and perhaps most moving, the Marian antiphon interspersed with Latin verse in Madre Di Tutte Le Genti.

John Paul II's voice is heard from 1980 through 1998. At times it is a bit jarring to hear how his voice changed from strong and clear to slurred and aged. But through it all, it is affecting, regardless of the language he speaks in.

A final note - the images contained in the CD jacket and liner notes are tasteful and impressive as well. Overall "Abba Pater" is a wonderful work of art that is particularly poignant today.

unforgettable..........2005-04-07

As a Pole, I've never experienced such a soul gathering as we've had throughout the last week. Commercial radio stations speak through our Holy Father's voice - Appa Pater. "All yours" the Pope used to say. Now he gives us the chance to once again listen to him, and him only... I never thought I would listen to this cd, but now I do, over and over again.

Comfort in Sorrow.......2005-04-05

I purchased this CD about 5 years ago. I enjoyed it then, and now find that it is helping me through the sorrow. When listening to this music, I feel the love that the Holy Father had for all humanity bathe me in peace. His spirit is united with the Holy Spirit, which is very present in this music; this CD is helping heal my broken heart. I know that the Divine Healer will continue to use JPII to change the world, through the hearts of man. I know my sorrow is but for a time, and then I will be able to fully rejoice in the awesome gift that God bestowed upon this earth when He spoke the name of Karol Wojtyla into being. Thank you.

As I listen to this CD, I am reminded that even as the Holy Father leaves us we will be taken care of. The hope and strength in his voice, carried along by the beautiful music gives me strength in the face of losing this Shepard. I am comforted by listening to his voice, and knowing that he will only be watching over us in heaven. He sends us strength in his words.

I first heard Wally Brill track online at Soma FM, and was captivated by the sound. Very neat beat, even my girlfriend who isn't much into the modern electronic music thinks its one of the coolest songs she's ever heard. I'm buying hte album, thats all there is to it.

Guys, this CD is awesome. It has so many different rhythms on just one CD that you can listen to it for dancing, gathering with your friends or just relaxation. It has a little bit of everything from all around the world. i hardly recommend it. It's a great buy.

Nice introduction to artists you might not normally hear.......2000-08-04

This came highly recommended by friends who live in Paris. The 2-CD set comes in "dinner" and "party" sets which led me to believe that one set was faster or more dance-oriented than the other, but they are surprisingly similar. Very soothing and mostly eastern/asian-influenced rhythms that are great as Sunday morning background music as you read the paper, or at an intimate dinner party, or even for background music at a cocktail party. I think it would appeal to a wide range of tastes and ages. I have no idea how this compilation compares to the Buddha-bar I mix.

In many respects, Lily Pons was the Galli-Curci of her generation: a winning combination of good looks, charm, an appealing and non-confrontational timbre, and easy facility in the stratosphere. Those who learned the "Mad Scene" from Lucia di Lammermoor or the "Bell Song" from Lakmé via the original 78s back in the 40s will be bowled over by the vivid detail and lack of background noise in these stunning Sony restorations. First-time listeners will marvel at her effortless passagework and high notes (she often transposed her arias up on records); but may be put off by a slight thinness in the middle register (not evident in her Odeon recordings from the late 20s), sketchy intonation at times, and expedient aspirating in downward scales. Although these selections encompass a gamut of stylistic and emotional contrasts, you'd scarcely know it from the singer's pleasant but characterless interpretations, which tickle the ear without quite racking the brain. --Jed Distler

This could have been recorded yesterday, the sound quality is excellent and without blemish. By far the best recordings of Pons I have, and I would like to have others. She reminds me of Jo, separation of notes, clear, real trills, a range to rival Sumac, flexibility to perfection, and always that today neglected once standard fare of the coloratura, the requisite leap to the top note at the end of an aria. And a pretty sound. I love this album.

Don't bother with the remix.......2006-08-18

I like Safri quite a bit, but for the extra few bucks- it's really not worth the remixes. Their second CD is worth the price- good stuff on the disk (some of their best actually) but the 'bonus CD' is trash. Lots of mindless 'boom, boom boom' nonscense. Save the money for something else and just get the regualr CD version.

I thoguht this CD was kick ass before i heard 3.0 which is much better, it's still good though and it comes wiht an awesome bonus disc with remixes.

Single Disc Edition of 17 Remixed Tracks from Jeff Wayne's 1979 Monumental Concept Album Opus "War of the Worlds", Based on the H.g. Wells Novel. The Original Songs were Performed by the Likes of Justin Hayward, Julie Covington, Phil Lynott, David Essex and Narrated by Richard Burton. When Interest in the Album Reignited in the Early 1990's, the Sony Label Commissioned a Number of Remixers to Update the Backing Tracks for the Dancefloor. Where will it end?.......2006-08-23

Alright, I admit it. I'm a fan. And by that I mean that Jeff Wayne will be able to exploit my enthusiasm for his master-work until the end of time. This time around, it's the not-quite all-new collection of remixes of songs from his 'Musical Version of the War of the Worlds.' There are several new mixes on here, but not enough to comprise a whole CD, so he's padded it with several of the better songs from the previous ULLAdubULLA. At least the price was right.
I won't go into great detail about the new mixes except to say that the first rap mix is terrible in my opinion. Other than that, I quite like what's been done. It helps a LOT that I'm a fan of remixes in general.
With this and the recent box set, I have about $250 invested in this album, so if you're out there Jeff, bring it on!

so far in life, I have owned the tapes, the cds, the sacds, and now the remix album..... so I might be a bit bias... but this is an excellent remix album, you must enjoy techno house beats with your music... with 17 tracks there are 2 I am not a fan of.... but they are still listenable

One of the very best soundtracks around! Awesome!.......2004-04-21

Listening to this music from the wonderful movie brings me back to that happier time in my life, 1989, with fewer cares, etc. It helps me relive that first time watching it in the theaters. That is, when I'm not actually watching the DVD at home. But there is something about the music in this CD. It really is awesome! My favorites are "On Our Own" (of course!), "We're Back", "Flip City" and "Higher and Higher." This is truly some of the best music for any movie, any time, IMO. If you are still a Ghostbusters fan (as I continue to be and always will), then you really must get this CD for your collection. It is well worth the money spent, however you can get it, wherever you can find it (the CD, that is). Who ya gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS! :)

This CD really rocks - like no other soundtrack. As I listen to each song, I am taken back in memory to the theater as I watched the movie for the very first time. I purchased Ghostbusters 1 and Ghostbusters 2 on DVD, replacing the VHS versions. Now, I did the same with the soundtrack, from cassettes (remember those? hehe) to the CD versions. I've not been disappointed with any of them. Excellent sound quality and convenience - to play B. Brown's "On Our Own" in Repeat mode ;) I could - and often do - listen to that one track over and over, along with "We're Back" and "Higher and Higher" and, of course, "Flip City" but they really are all good -- well worth the money, whatever it costs you! No Ghostbusters fan's library or shelf is complete without at least this CD, but you really have to get all of them.

Not bad........2004-02-16

This CD is decent enough. My personal favorite tracks on the album are "On Our Own", "We're Back", "Spirit", "Ghostbusters", "Flip City", and "Higher and Higher". The rest, while not bad, is, with the exception of "Flesh & Blood", just filler that has nothing to do with the movie in any way. If only they would have rounded out the CD with some samples of the excellent score for the film, it could have been much better. Overall though, it is not a bad album.

The ghostbusters 2 soundtrack is better than the movie. But still, who pays 35 dollars for a CD when I got mine for 7 dollars at a yardsale?

The soundtrack isn't too bad, but it isn't even a shadow to the soundtrack AND the first movie. That one had story, depth, great character representations, but most importantly: Humour. The ghostbusters 2 movie is more meant for kids, since the humour is more kiddie humour. So, uhm, uuuh, I never buy a soundtrack if I don't think the movie is good, so you have to be a real fan of the SECOND movie to enjoy this CD.

That's part of the Ghostbusters song by Run-DMC. It may even be better than the original by Ray Parker Jr. In fact, the reason I bought this soundtrack was for the Run-DMC version. Although the other songs aren't without their charms. To summarize, this is a great CD. I highly recommend it, especially to any ghosthead.

The Performance and musics are superb,but i think i recieved a
very poor video quality or maybe just the product itself.The
pictures seems hazy,gets blurry till ends of the program.Seems
i'm watching through an opaques window.I cannot enjoy watching.
I cleaned my player but no avail.

After reading the reviews of this DVD (the USA version)no wonder
fans are unhappy..the sub titles do make a big difference..if you are going to purchase this DVD make sure it's the one of him in the biplane..Tuscany was our favorite until this one..something for everyone on this DVD..B U T now that we have New Years Eve Punch..this one tops them all..
