4 out of 5 stars Digitally Remastered From The Original Master Tapes!.......2007-01-09

Like all other Hi-Bias releases this one shines when it comes to the mastering! Just like the 'Retro:Active' releases from Hi-Bias the liner notes state that the music has been "mastered using the 'Aural Submission' process. Any audio imperfections are due to original source masters". The results? Stunning!!! I can't believe how incredible some of these recordings sound, namely the early 80's tracks: "Let It Whip" by The Dazz Band (1982) sounds incredible with it's heavy bass line and full dynamic range. Of course, this track is only one example.

Soft Cell's 12" of "Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go" has never sounded better than on this release. This 12" is readily available on numerous compilations all over the world. I have never heard it sound better than on here! It's incredibly rich, crisp, and heavy sounding for a 1981 recording! It really puts the 2002 Mercury/Universal 'Non-Stop Erotic Caberet' so-called "remaster" to shame! Sorry, but that master sounded flat and thin! It's a real treat finally having an older recording like this in my collection with it's best sound ever.

As one reviewer pointed out the 2-CD set does have it's faults. While the majority of the tracks are the original 12" versions a few LP tracks have found their way here. For example, Bronski Beat's 1984 smash "Smalltown Boy" features in it's original LP version, not the official 12" mix that's listed. The original 12" clocks in over 9 minutes. It clocks in at it's standard 5:01 LP version here. It's really a shame that this was overlooked because I was looking forward to finally having the real 12" version in stunning audio. Nonetheless, this does not disappoint! This is easily the best-sounding version I've heard of the track.

Many of these tracks really don't show their age in terms of sound quality due to the brilliant mastering. I have never heard any of these tracks sound better on any previous releases I own. I highly recommend this release in addition to the other 'Old School Nation' volumes for fans looking for the best-sounding 12" versions out there!

3 out of 5 stars WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE RARETIES???.......2007-02-24

This great series falls flat this time around--there is barely a track on here that hasn't shown up on other CDs, and there are still so many rare 80s 12" singles that need to find their way to CD. The biggest slap in the face is putting Whip It on here, which never had a 12" version. It's an okay start for those who haven't begun collecting 12" version on CD yet, but longtime dedicated collectors will be disappointed.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars The Golden Age of Dance (Pop) Trance.......2005-11-11

Disc one has all the favorites. Classic Ministry of Sound when it actually was cool. Last good disc before the demise of MOS.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good, but not perfect.......2004-03-03

Well to start off, this is the first Trance Nation CD I bought. Well I listen to the sounds of the music, the beat gets to my head. It will make you feel like dancing, the techno beats and rythems are very heart-throbbing. First to couple of songs are amazing, the beat gets into you, and quickly. The rest are pretty much the same, of course there are ups and downs as the songs go by.

Long story short, This is a must pair of CD's. I give this, Trance Nation 4, a 4.5/5. I just can't put the stars 4.5.

5 out of 5 stars fast paced.......2004-02-03

I have to give it a 5 for a pretty good track selection. This is my first of trance nation, I was disapointed with all the TNAs, but this is pretty good. Once comment that's neither for or against it, is that this CD moves really fast. on cd1 only one track is longer than 4:30, and most clock in under 4:00. Like I said, I'm not sure if its bad or good, but it is a lot better than the tracks being drawn out.

5 out of 5 stars Favorite CD's.......2003-02-07

These 2CD's were amazing!!!. The first CD was good. The first four songs were strong followed by the others. You just can't listen to it and not want to dance with the techno beats.

The second CD was even better. I loved the songs by System F lost in motion and the end almost made me cry!!! It changes your mood for the day and encourges you in life. If I didn't have this CD, I might have failed school.

I had a long history with Trance Nation. Anyways, to make a long story short, buy these Cd's and you won't be dissapointed

5 out of 5 stars Ferry Corsten -- can you get any better than this?.......2002-08-13

Trance Nation 4 does not dissapoint MOS and System F fans. Corsten delivers another phenominal mix of some of the best trance music from 2000.

Some of the highlights from this 2 disc set (which comes strong on BOTH CD's, unlike Trance Nation 5) :

Sandstorm makes an appearance here, and it should be since it is one of the top dance hits of the year... Also "Revelation" comes in (a great remix here) at track 9. The first CD is solid, you'll hear some familiar songs here and also some lesser known ones.

The second CD follows up strong, there are some very original remixes along with Corsten's normally seemless beatmatching... the second CD also includes a great remix of the theme from the movie "Platoon" (which almost brought a tear to my eye! ) -- there's actually some points in this set where I can barely notice the tracks changing over...

All in all, a great release from MOS -- Get it if you love trance or are a fan of Ferry Corsten.

5 out of 5 stars 6 stars if i could!.......2006-01-29

This CD is just as good as it's first, Trance Nation vol.1
I'm not sure why it has four stars in the total rating, but it deserves much more than that. The first song is my favorite and it's an opening song...

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding Trance Compilation.......2005-11-22

In my opinion, this is the best compilation Ministry ever put out. They should have had Ferry Corsten oversee all of them. This album is still great and I've had it for several years. Trance music was at it's peak at that time so if you're new to it-this is what you missed, although you'll still hear some of these songs played in clubs because they're so great.
If you're reading the reviews and wondering "should I get it?" the answer is a resounding yes.

5 out of 5 stars This CD is Special to me because I got it by luck!.......2003-11-05

I am so proud of my discovery of Trance Nation. This is how I discovered it. In 2000 June, I borrowed a random CD called Dance Nation at the library. Sadly I had to return it so I wanted to download it. On Napster Music Commnity, I typed Dance Nation on the search and it gave me Trance Nation 3 CD1. It was 109 MB and 75 mins long. woooow I thought, a song this long! So I just randomly downloaded to see how it was like it and didn't even know what that was. Then I heard the song don't give up and I was like, WOW! this song is great! and now I am still listening to this stuff because it is just excellent! I love Trance with all my heart! So you should get this too along with the other CDs From 1-4 and 2001 (would not recomend 2002 and definitely not 2003!) and you find it amazing too!

5 out of 5 stars One of the best Club Trance albums out there.......2001-08-15

So far, this is my favorite entry into the Trance Nation series by Ferry Corsten. This one is filled, back to back, with probably the most great songs I've ever heard on one compilation. I could star naming songs, but I'd just end up putting down most of the album.

Disk1 is my favorite. This is the more vocal of the two, and I generally prefer the vocals (although I know that most hardcore progressive trance fans hate vocal trance). Also Disk1 has a clubbier trance feel, while Disk2 strays more towards a darker progressive beat-driven trance. Although I love Disk1 there is still plenty to like about Disk2. All the songs have great buildups, and Ferry has a knack at picking out great track selections.

One thing that people tend to hate about Corsten is that he has so many tracks on one disk: 20 alone on Disk1. I don't have that prejudice. Although I love to see a DJ take a great song and stretch it out over 8-10 minutes, I also hate it when a DJ lays down lots of filler beats in between tracks. Corsten does no such thing. Song transitions are quick but precise. He's obviously taken a lot of time to plan out the order that the tracks are going to be played in, and each song blends into the next with a natural progression. Each song is around 4-5 minutes long, and that is more than enough time for that song to leave its mark and not over stay its welcome.

All I have left to say is that I love this album. Both disks are excellent and high energy. I predict this collection won't fad away, and will stay right next to my CD player for a long time to come. If you love trance, then this album come highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars awesome.......2001-06-18

this album is one of the best trance cd's i have. The whole first CD and the second half of the second are amazing. The good thing about this album is that you get to like new songs as you listen to this cd so you never get tired of it. Gouryella's walhalla, web's loving times ukw hymnotic are great songs. But so are toca me (instrumental)which i like much more than the original, chicane's don't give up, and almost everyother song on the first cd. So, buy this Cd and u won't be disappointed...

4 out of 5 stars Tranceglobalnation moves to the dark side.......2001-08-09

Each of the TranceGlobalNation cd's has been distinctive from its predecessors, and this one is no exception. DJ Eyal, formerly known for spinning an uplifting brand of trance, has followed the recent trend toward darker, more progressive tracks in this mix; consequently for those (like me) who enjoy this deeper, less melodic style, the mix is attractive, whereas for those who favor uplifting trance, the mood might seem alien and forbidding.

The danger associated with any commercially released mix cd is that too many of the tracks will be the same ones that other dj's have decided to include in their own mixes, and so the potential of the mix for uniqueness will be lost. And indeed, DJ Eyal includes several much-exposed pieces in his mix, including Sasha and Darren Emerson's "Scorchio," Taylor's "Xenophobe," and Cass/Slide's "Perception." However, he also includes several tracks that have not received much exposure, and so the mix retains sufficient distinctiveness to be worth the serious consideration of fans of "progressive."

Given the large number of progressive mixes that have flooded the market during 2000-2001, this disc may get lost in the shuffle. It's a good, well-constructed mix, however, and those who enjoy progressive trance/house should give it a spin.

3 out of 5 stars Mix CD are only as good as the DJ that creates them........2001-07-25

Mix CDs are only as good as the DJ that selects the tracks and creates the mixes. If you like TGN2 check out TGN4 or Crystal Volume 2 (all mixed by DJ Nicholas Bennison). Nicholas has made a name for himself with his incredible track selections and technical mixing abilities. TGN2 was mixed by Nicholas although the track selection was laid out by the TGN lable. TGN4 is a better example Nicholas Bennison's superb style. While your at it, check out Crystal Volume 1 by DJ Plastic, another L.A. based artist that, like Nicholas is taking the world by storm. If your into cutting edge underground music Nicholas is the perfect guide.

4 out of 5 stars A tough and hungry mix.......2001-07-21

I bought this one on the strength of Vol. 2 and 3 of this series (both excellent) and I was equally satisfied with this one (regardless of what others may have said about it). The Trance Global series has excelled at one thing - highlighting the music. While Global Underground spotlights the DJ (and rightly so) Trance Global picks DJs who simply know how to forgo ego for the best that there is in trance and as a result there is very little filler or transition pieces. Instead the mixes are straight-forward, lean and blissful when you just want to hear the music. Sure it is great to hear the best of the best DJs, but I like the fact the Trance Global offers an alternative (not that their DJs aren't good, they are, it is just that you don't notice them over the music if you know what I mean). This mix is especially good. It explores some of the darker territory that Digweed went to with his LA release, but it is beefed up here. Of course the gem is the Sasha/Emerson song (which is my vote for one of the top 10 trance songs ever), but many of the songs here rate including the piece by DJ Eyal, who mixed this one as well. This is a solid mix that not only will not dissapoint but will often thrill.

2 out of 5 stars not what i expected at all, far worse than TGN2.......2001-06-07

The first CD that I owned from the tranceglobalnation series was vol. 2. That CD was absolutely superb. I enjoyed every last song on the disc. Thinking that this CD was just as good, I went to sam goody and bought it. What a waste!! this has the most repetitive loops ive ever heard. Maybe one or two good songs but does not compare to TGN2 at all!

4 out of 5 stars Great mix cd.......2001-04-04

I'm generally not a big fan of these types of discs but this one is quite infectious and addictive. Standout Tracks includ Sun is Shining as well as Track 1. Contains a lot of the tracks that they are playing out there in the clubs right now, mostly with a hard trance beat. Definitly worth it, especially if you are a fan of others in the the series.

5 out of 5 stars The Best I've Heard So Far........2005-01-03

Of all the Trance music I have listened to over the past seven years, I would have to say this is the most memorable that I have had the pleasure of hearing and then later owning. These songs(in my personal opinion and I'm sure some of you will disagree) are the clear defenition of trance. Since I find nearly all of the tracks are enjoyable, I feel it would be easier to list which tracks I don't like; those are:

02 If I Were You [Michael Woods Remix]:
Not a lot of emotion, but still has a powerful beat that you can dance to.

11 C:/Del*. MP3:
I do like this song, but I think I should say that it's first impression makes it out as the emotionless techno stereotype, which is true to a point but doesn't make it any less of a song.

05 Crush [PVD Remix]:
It's a good song, it is just placed in an inapropriate position. After "No One on Earth", it's opening lyrics come off as kind of Conceded. That's my only problem with however, as the vocals are, in fact, top notch.

11 Nothing I Won't Do
&
12 Summer Jam 2004 [DJ F.R.A.N.K.'s Summermix Extended]:
These just don't fit in the album at all in my opinion and seem very lowbrow and immiture for lack of a better description coming after something as beautiful and melodic(in my opinion) as "Now That We Are Free"

As for the tracks I like so much that I can't describe why, I've narrowed down my top five(in track order) to:

01 Beautiful Things [Gabriel & Dresden Unplugged Mix]
03 Turn It Around [Extended Mix]
12 Holding Onto Nothing [Original Mix]
03 Newlife [Original Mix]
10 Now That We Are Free [Extended Mix]

in close second:

07 Another World [Original 12" Mix]
08 Santa Cruz [R.E. Mix]
01 Take Me to the Clouds Above [Flip and Fill Remix]
04 No One on Earth [Gabriel & Dresden Remix]
06 Sahara

Please Note that these opinions have been written after listening to both CDs several times and do not reflect my first impressions on them.

5 out of 5 stars Trance Fan Matt.......2004-08-13

I chose this cd out of a few others that i was debating to buy...and i have no regrets about my choice. This cd is great and captures the definition of trance

5 out of 5 stars lives up to its predecessor.......2004-08-04

Trance Nation America 3 seems to pick up right where Volume 2 left off. Although this one isn't mixed as well as Vol. 2, the tracks are just as good if not better. The first cd is highlighted by Lasgo's "Surrender," Angelli & Nelson's "Holding On To Nothing," and Ashavaa's "Sunlight." Cd 2 features Benny Bennasi with "Love Is Gonna Save Us," and "Sun Is Shining," by DT8 Project. This is a tremendous cd and any trance fan should have this one in their collection.

5 out of 5 stars impulse buy.......2004-07-19

Was at the store and took a risk on this cd since i didnt know whether it was vocals or not. Its really good some are vocals and some arent, but still a great cd.
