Album Description
The Hush Sound offer something different than the monotony of today's oversaturated music scene. This indie-folk-pop-rock band spurts out songs full of catchy guitar riffs, uplifting piano parts, and layered male/female vocals. Their style is hard to pinpoint, but it's original and imaginative. Influences range from Paul Simon to The Shins to The Format, and many more. "Like Vines" was produced by Sean O'Keefe (Fall Out Boy, Motion City Soundtrack) and Fall Out Boy vocalist Patrick Stump.
Customer Reviews:
GREAT CD!.......2007-05-09
I love the hush sound. Wine Red is my favorite song on this whole cd. But there are plently of other great ones on here. Like Sweet Tangerine. That's an awesome song. If you're a fan of One Tree Hill and like the music on there such as 8mm, and Shiny Toy Guns. Then you'll love the Hush sound.
Music, lyrics and the subject fused together perfectly! .......2007-05-08
I usually hesitate to read the lyrics because a lot of times the lyric is either not well written or not what I expected (causes most of the time I can't totally hear what they were talking about exactly when they sing, you know~) and ruins the song I used to like, but this album, it just goes the other way round. Reading the lyrics makes me like it even more.
I haven't really read all the lyrics yet, but I just can't help it to comment on the last song "You Are the Moon". It's so beautiful. The music and the lyrics fuse together perfectly to reflect what it's describing. The calmness of the piano sounds just like that of the night and the melody as beautiful as the glow of the moon...and Greta's charming voice singing softly. It just brings up the vision. So nice, so well done! Can't stop listening to it again and again.
Rest of the album is good too. You won't really have to skip any song. The whole album is pretty good when I listened to it initially. The "Lighthouse" was especially catchy among them. At first it was because of her voice and the piano, and its kinda up and down but calm melody. But then when I read the lyrics, it's even better than I thought! The story is a haunting one and the lyrics has a slight effect for that as well -- the witty trap at the end is a nice twist.
I'm sure you can read details in a lot other reviews or just totally get the CD and listen to it yourself, so I'll save it for now~
Outstandingly Refreshing.......2007-04-18
Unlike much of the music out there, the fresh sound of The Hush Sound is so incredibly winning to the ears. "The Lion's Roar" never fails to bring a smile to my face, the sound, the lyrics, song, the band, and the album have it all. A diverse sound that captures the ear.
Amazing and Unbelievable.......2007-04-10
I just bought this CD today as a kind of last minute thing because the Best Buy I went to didn't have the CD I was looking for. I remembered that I wanted to check this band out, as I have heard and read many great reviews about them and I like Fall Out Boy and Panic! at the Disco, who are similar bands. Honesty, I wasn't expecting too much out of this CD, just another group of wannabe rock stars, but I was wrong and pleasantly surprised and how good this CD actually is. I am very picky with my music and a harsh critic. I rarely give a CD 5 stars, but this band is deserving of them. It is not everday that I hear a CD where I like every single song I hear on it, but that's how it is with the Hush Sound.
The album starts out with the song "We Intertwined", which is vocalized by Bob Morris. This is definitely a good opener song and it features the line "like vines we intertwined", which is where the CD title comes from. Then comes track two, "A Dark Congregation", which totally blew me away. The sheer beauty and clarity of Greta Salpeter's voice is amazing and that alone could make you fall in love with the song and any other song with her voice. Then comes "Sweet Tangerine" featuring Bob Morris' voice and it is definitely a strong song for the album. Then we have "Lions Roar", which is a pretty short song and it doesn't really have a chorus, but that's what makes it great. It is fun and has good lyrics and music and makes you want to keep listening. Then comes "Lighthouse", Greta's next song. It is truly amazing and you can definitely hear the emotion in the lyrics and you get a total mental picture of what is going on. Then comes "Don't Wake Me Up", a fun and catchy song that features vocals from Greta and Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy. Then we have "Where We Went Wrong", a Bob song, that uses nautical metaphors to describe a relationship gone awry. Next is "Magnolia", a Greta song that is very good has great lyrics, and is very catchy. After that we have the famous "Wine Red", which is the first song I ever heard from this band. I liked it when I first heard it and I still do. There are dual vocals between Bob and Greta and it definitely a perfect sound. Then comes "Out Through the Curtain", the last song that Bob sings on the album. It is definitely a good closing for him, which just brings us to the last song on the album, sung by Greta, which is "You Are the Moon". A very nice song if I do say so myself and you will definitely fall in love with it.
If you are even considering this band, I say go for it 100%, and and I promise you that, given you like alternative music, you will not be disappointed.
Very strong album from start to finish!!!.......2007-03-15
Though the band has striking similarities to Panic! At The Disco, The Housh Sound continues to explore a more unique sound in their sophmore effort Like Vines. The result is a more polished work in comparison with their earlier album So Sudden. The band continues to use a pletohora of instruments to create a sound that obviously stands out among their peers. Like Vines, which now features Greta Salpeter in several tracks, utilizes classical instruments such as the piano with an indie rock sound that is both catchy and easy on the ears; Wine Red is a solid example of the band's revamped sound. Nevertheless, if you enjoy Panic! At The Disco, you'll find this album worth listening to!

The Hush Sound is an awesome band!.......2007-02-22
The Hush Sound has put out two great albums. They are a very talented group and I highly recommend them. I have both of their cds and they are *so* good. The songs are catchy and well written. You won't be disappointed!
The Hush Sound--So Sudden.......2007-01-26
I loved The Hush Sound the moment I found them online. Their song, "Wine Red" from the second album hooked me immediatly. I bought both the first and the second CD at the same time. "So Sudden" is very good considering they are not a well known band. Some songs don't have as good recording quality as others but each song is unique and different from the rest of the songs on the album. What I like best in the fact that in each song they switch from male lead vocals to female vocals. It gives it variation so that each song doesn't sound the same. I'd recommended this CD as well as their second "Like Vines."
One of my favorites..........2006-06-12
The Hush sound are appealing because they are truly unique. When pressed, I cannot think of a single band to really compare their sound to. The one comparison I can make is to early U2. The music of the two bands is not alike, but the combination of vibrant youthful energy and rapidly emerging talent are apparent in both "So Sudden" and U2's debut, "Boy". I also see the same glimmer of future greatness. The same anticipation, the feeling that these four on on the brink of something bigger than they can imagine. In the coming years, as they learn to focus this energy, I know that worldwide success will follow.
"So Sudden" is best described as a wholly enjoyable album. While the themes of the songs can be sad or sullen, the music itself is catchy and delightful. Even the most bashful will catch themselves singing along with the lyrics, humming the tunes long after the stereo has been shut off.
While I have affection for all the tracks, I am very paritial to Greta's songs. Her voice, lyrics, and piano work take us on a journey through her soul. "Elieen" is particularly interesting because of the contrast between the mourning lyrics and the soaring music.
I also love "The Market". It is sweet and strange and the most original and unique song I've heard in a long time. It makes me smile without fail.
So Sudden...So Incredible.......2006-06-06
I cannot begin to describe how much I love The Hush Sound. This CD establishes THS as an extremely talented group, and I must say that their new CD, Like Vines, is even better (I preordered it straight from FBR's online store so it shipped early). But this album is amazing nonetheless. Every track is beautiful, both musically and lyrically (the only track of which I'm not too fond is "Unsafe Safe"). Not only that, but BOTH vocalists (Bob and Greta) have clear, pristine voices that convey the emotions for which their songs call. And what's more is that the sound of their voices together (like on "The Artist") has to be heard to be believed. These guys are simply the best and are probably THE group to watch. Their indie-rock sound may not be for everyone, but if you can appreciate good (alternative) music, then you are in for a real treat. Get this album and decide whether or not you like them; if you do, get your hands on Like Vines ASAP. =)
Simply put...I am blown away!!!.......2006-05-11
I had the wonderful experience of seeing this band live for the first time ever at the Bamboozled Tour this past weekend. I had never heard of them before, and they were by far the best band I'd seen in a long, long time. I immediately purchased their debut album "So Sudden" and I am now an instant fan.
Believe all the hype you read about them, everything is true. I will be shocked if they do not become a huge success. They are FANTASTIC!!! An all-original sound, great catchy tunes, diverse vocals...this band has it all. Every song on the album is AWESOME!! And they are great with their fans. They held a meet & greet after the show and signed hundreds of autographs, talked with everyone & you can tell that they all are genuinely great people.
I wish them all the success in the world, they deserve it. And I cannot wait until June 6th for their second album release!!!
Thanks for renewing my faith in current music!!

Patti Page is always gentle on my mind.......2007-02-24
This two-fer CD contains all the tracks of two of Patti Page's strong albums from the 1960s entitled Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte and Gentle On My Mind. Patti's voice remains as rich, warm, and vibrant as ever. I agree with the reviewer who writes that when Patti sang these songs she caressed them while holding each song gently in her arms.
The CD starts with the eleven tracks from Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte. After singing the title track with a musical arrangement that makes excellent use of the strings section, Patti performs "Try To Remember" from The Fantasticks. The background vocalists sing sweetly to enhance the beauty of the song; and Patti delivers this with all her might and passion. The musical arrangement complements the vocals perfectly.
"Jamaica Farewell" is a famous ballad written by Lord Burgess aka Irving Burgie. It sounds as if Patti's voice has been superimposed a second time onto the master tapes for this number to give her voice a very slight echo quality. I love it! The Latin beat of the musical arrangement shows forethought and the percussion shines, too. "Croce Di Oro" explores the story of about two lovers who must part; apparently Patti's man is going off to be a sailor. Patti sings of a cross of gold, a "Croce Di Oro" that she gives to her lover so that he may return safely to her arms. The Latin beat of this song enhances the romantic feel of the song.
"Danny Boy" boasts a beautiful musical arrangement as Patti sings this so passionately. Patti closes this first half of the two-fer CD with two unforgettable numbers entitled "Can't Help Falling In Love" and "Scarlet Ribbons (For Her Hair)." "Can't Help Falling In Love" works wonders as a romantic number that makes you want to slow dance with your sweetheart. In addition, "Scarlet Ribbons (For Her Hair)" touches you with its singularly beautiful lyrics which also leave you with an unexpected, unsolved mystery.
The next eleven tracks come from Patti's 1968 LP entitled Gentle On My Mind. On this second part of the two-fer CD we see Patti beginning to gradually cross over from pop to country--excellent! The song "Gentle On My Mind" has a distinctly 1960s pop beat to it; and "Little Green Apples" makes great use of the guitar while Patti sings this with great sensitivity. "Have A Little Faith" has an intro that could best be described as a mixture of pop and country. The piano playing makes the song lean toward country; and when Patti sings "Have A Little Faith" you can tell that crossing over to country from pop is no challenge for a woman of her remarkable talent.
"This House" shows Patti doing some pop music again; the upbeat melody stands in sharp contrast to the lyrics of this song about a love gone awry. "Skip A Rope" goes back to a mix of pop and country; Patti's versatility astounds me!
The two-fer CD ends with the classic romance ballad entitled "Release Me." The backup vocalists sing wonderfully and Patti sings this to perfection. The outstanding melody also makes this song a fine conclusion to this album.
The liner notes include the cover art for both LPs when they were originally released and the song credits are provided as well. Mark Marymont contributes an essay about Patti's career and the making of her numerous LPs including the two on this CD.
I highly recommend this CD as an excellent value and delight for Patti Page fans. People who enjoy classic pop vocals and country vocals will enjoy this two-fer CD as well.
TWO OF PATTI'S 60'S BEST AND BIGGEST SELLERS.......2004-09-01
Patti not only sings these songs but she caresses them. Patti's recording of HUSH HUSH SWEET CHARLOTTE was a Top 10 Billboard hit and the album followed it into the Top 30. Patti's readings of TRY TO REMEMBER, SCARLETT RIBBONS, CROCE DE ORO, DANNY BOY and CAN'T HELP FALLING IN LOVE rank with the best recordings of these songs. The GENTLE ON MY MIND album followed the success of the single which peaking in the TOP 10 of Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart and stayed on Billboard's HOT 100 for 16 weeks. The majority of the songs were monster country hits which were "popped" by Patti bringing them to a whole new audience. It's great to finally have these two lps on one cd. If you are a Patti fan or simply like quality "easy listening" vocal music, this cd would add some ambience to your listening. When you combine this CD with Collectibles' releases containing 4 more of her great Columbia 60s recordings, you have the majority of her 60s output: (SAY WONDERFUL THINGS/LOVE AFTER MIDNIGHT (Collectables 7598 and TODAY MY WAY/HONEY COME BACK Colletables 7597).
patti page--hush hush sweet charlote.......2001-11-11
WAS VERY DISAPOINTED IN THE SOUND QUALITY OF THIS DISC--IT EVIDENTLY WAS NOT REMASTERED, AND THEREFORE THE FIDELITY IS VERY FLAT!! I AM SORRY THAT I PURCHASED IT.
Deep and Rich Voice on Columbia Records.......2000-11-26
When Patti Page left Mercury Records and went to Columbia, it's like if her voice got deeper and richer. Don't know if it was the recording studio and Columbia's 360 degree sound of if Miss Page's voice had changed that much. According to Miss Page, her voice had not changed at that time. Nevertheless, these two albums are great. The song selections and arrangements are both songs of yesteryears (prior to the 1960s) and the 60s. Patti Page delivers on these 2 albums like she did so many times on her Mercury albums. Even in the year 2000, I recently saw her in concert and she sang a couple of tunes from this CD. Still great today.
Hush-a-bye Patti.......1999-12-12
Patti Page, once coined "the singing rage" couldn't be father off the mark than with these two insomnia curing albums. By the early and late 60s, Page's restrained vocal stylings certainly seemed out of date. These two albums are testament to this. The first, HUSH, HUSH SWEET CHARLOTTE was obviously an attempt by Columbia Records to capitalize on her smash single of the time. None of the other songs are similar in theme, but similar in arrangement. The arrangements are painfully slow and lulling. Its as if Dreamland were but a listen away. Such pedestrian numbers as "Try to Remember" and "Scarlet Ribbons" seem to be lost to Patti's bland, understated vocals. The second half of this twofer is 1968's GENTLE ON MY MIND. This album, though not nearly as lifeless as the previous, suffers from chilly background singers and uninspired song selection. Everyone was recording these songs at the time. Do we really believe Patti Page would understand the sentiments of "Take Me to Your World"? Luckily, this album somehow redeems this compilation, but not entirely. Recommended only to the die-hard Page fans. All others try her more interesting Mercury recordings.

Excellent ... hard-to-find stuff.......2007-03-28
This is an excellent CD with some hard to find stuff. You can't deny the quality of these bands.
I don't know what the other guy is complaining about. This is a rare item, dude! You can't find it at the store. It's great that you got a free copy at a concert once...that doesn't mean the item is worth any less to the rest of us! (unless you want to send me your copy for free???)
Doesn't make any sense. 5-stars from me.
FBR Sampler.......2006-09-23
I got this SAMPLER at a Fall Out Boy show for free last October. It's a sampler, not a compilation. Yes, it's a good sampler, but not worth $10.

Customer Reviews:
The unsurpassable exemplar.......2000-07-28
It was many years ago that I first heard Kathleen Ferrier. I was staying with a friend not far from where she used to live. I can recall, because it remains very vivid in my mind, the evening when we were sitting before a window and peering out onto a Winter orchard, sparsely lit by a few gas lamps and an ancient flicker from places far away. My friend asked me to listen to what he described as, "A woman's voice," which would, he said, "Hold on to my heart-strings and then glide with me upon the promontory before emotional oblivion." Further, "That her very breathing was worth infinitely more than the singing careers of most divas." Well, I listened to Kathleen Ferrier sing JS. Bach, and my very first thought was that she was singing about herself that which could only have been written for her and I really did listen while holding back a tugging response and an entrancement which I hadn't ever felt before. In my opinion, all of her repertoire carries with it and makes in the listener this same extremity of feeling but like that ancient flicker which was apparent that evening upon the trees, there comes something else, I could call it a haunting, 'supernatural' vigor, but I won't, rather, I shall let the words of Handel's Rodelinda, (which appears on this CD), do it for me; "Art thou troubled?...Music will calm thee...Art thou weary?...Rest, child divine...Rest, child divine." I bear a consideration in my mind too, that for my having heard Kathleen Ferrier, I can't bear listening to anyone else sing the same as did she, because my friend was absolutely correct, that, save for Maria Callas, there might be 'other voices,' but that is all they are. 'Have Mercy Lord On Me,' from JS. Bach's St. Matthew Passion, illustrates this point so very, very well as there are other 'renditions' now and therefore, this CD, (which is better with enhancement turned off), contains along with other extracts, the unsurpassable exemplar.
