wonderful.......2007-01-19
I like the 80's music. I had one of these same cds but something happened and it wouldn't work anymore. I was happy to see that you had it. Very happy. I am very satisfied - I love listening to it. Thanks!
Another GREAT CD.......2007-01-12
I LOVE 80's music, this is another excellent cd and you will not be sorry for buying it.
Pure 80's.......2007-01-10
This cd has 20 terrific songs from the 80's. Some from 1 hit wonders so it was fantastic to get them on one cd rather than having to buy multiple cds. Also, great to have a cd where I like all 20 songs.
A great 80s CD.......2006-07-12

Just great! Get hooked, you'll be shaking your life out...! Great selection of that Disco time!
Pure Pop Culture..Cashing In On "Disco" Revival Of The 90s.......2007-04-16
This is more or less just another danceable pop hits of the mid - late 70s collection (with a few early 80s thrown in). Folks, lets be honest here...only maybe 2 or 3 tunes actually got heavy play in the actual clubs back when (which is the reason I even give this 2 stars). All these tunes are the same tunes for the most part that are on every other so called "disco" CD compilation. For one, "Grease" is FAR from anything disco or disco related (which im happy to see a few people actually noticed!).
Where's Cerrone "Supernature", Giorgio "From Here To Eternity", Alec R. Costandinos "Romeo & Juliet", Machine "There But For The Grace Of God Go I", Jumbo "Turn On To Love" and could go on and on (probably 90% of the folks reading this right now dont even know what those tunes I mentioned are).
Those tunes I mentioned are basic common club play disco from back when...im not even goin mega deep here, just mentioning a few of the REAL disco bilboard hit basics here. Sure, to promote the pop hits, most of these tunes on this comp were played in the corse of the night in 12" remixed format...but they were not the main attraction as pop culture believes!
If anyone is truely interested to hear what disco was really about and wants to get a small taste of the hard true disco sounds, if you can find it (since its out of print), look up the CD comps The Best Disco In Town vol 3 (whole CD) and The Best Disco In Town vol.2 (75% of this CD is true disco) put out by the now gone Hot Productions...there you'll get a small taste of the REAL disco hits from the 1976 - 1980 era which kept everyone dancin and havin fun (with a few early 80s ones thrown in). Forget this pop culture cash in on what the radio mainstream called disco (and if this is what disco really was, I wouldnt blame em one bit for the whole disco sucks movement...but this IS NOT REAL DISCO!).
Like I said, I DO give em credit for putting a few tracks on here that actually were REAL club hits and not on every pop comp (Gibson Brothers "Cuba" is the main one that stands out). But don't take my word for it, seek out the 2 comps I mentioned above and hear for yourself!
Disco Queen Lives!.......2007-04-02
This is fabulous as it brings me back to my disco queen days! I am the same slinky, sexy dancing goddess of the 80's! Well, it sure feels like it.
The best of the best.......2007-03-17
Great treadmill music. This one covers most of the good stuff from the yesteryear's of disco.
Get on up and Boogie!!!.......2007-02-02
Whether its 'pure disco' is debatable...but this is a first rate compilation of Classic Disco songs...every single one on this disc has 'outlived' the era just listen to Knock On Wood, Dont Leave Me This Way, Dancing Queen and of course I feel Love...fantastic compilation the first in the series.
Worthwhile.

Good selections, good fidelity, original artists. Not the ususal "bottom of the barrel" anthology. Well worth the price
I FINALLY,found"THAT(smoooooooth) song!!.......2007-03-22
I had been,wondering,for years'where,I could get,one of the mellowest,beats',that,I'd EVER,heard!! I'm talking about "Loves Theme". For YEARS(when,I was younger)I would hear it,every now and again,being played on the radio(not having a CLUE,as to what "it" was called,or, WHO,composed it)and,I would always' be TRANSFIXED,by the sheer BEAUTY,of this"mysterious"song...(that always,seemed to spark a bit of melancholy,in my heart)...One time,I thought,that I heard a D.J. mention something about"Loves' Themesong"(which,I thought was a PERFECT,name,for such a beautiful song!!!But,that,"incident" was so LONG,ago(over 15 years')I,was unsure,if(with my CHAOTIC,post-stroke memory)I,actually DID hear that,or,just IMAGINED,hearing that title for it!!But,I saw those,words,on,the tracklisting,for,this,album,and now,I,FINALLY,have this GREAT song!!Can you say:Early 2007 CHRISTMAS?!!?
Disco Dancing - Need to have this one.......2006-11-05
This CD has many of the classics that are not on the other compilations of disco music. It was so great to hear the music again. Definately a good buy
The very best for your money.......2006-09-02
Do yourselves a favor and buy all 3 of these Disco CDs. volume 1, 2, and 3. They are a superb value for the money and represent the very best in Disco Music. Like I said in my review of Disc 1, I use these CDs to work out on the tread mill. They keep me energized and bring back the fondest memories of my younger days when I could really swing to this kind of music. Now I trot to this kind of music on the tread mill and it is still as much fun!!!

memories of the 70's..........2007-06-01
When i was a "chavalo" my mom used to listen to the radio while she cleaned the house. She used to play all the soul and funk of the later 70's. Man i can remember how good the music sounded back then. I'm a second generation DJ with a real love for the older music...when it was really music. For you "chavaloes"( young bucks ) out there ...you'll hear a lot of riffs in the songs that sound familiar because of all the sampling done today. This is one of the best compilation CD's i've ever seen. On a lot of the compilation cd's there are often "fillers"...or tunes that are just kinda thrown in to fill space on the CD...not here! They've put together a SOLID group of some "BAD FUNK" and great cuts from the later Disco/Funk era(the music in the later part of the 70's was still called "disco" but it was funk,R&b dance). From "Brick House" to "Mr. Big Stuff" to "Car Wash" to "Don't stop the music"...this CD hits with every song! This is a must have...5 star CD full of the best of memories from the Golden Age of the 70's/early 80's...BUY THIS ONE!!!
Awesome gift.......2007-02-18
I myself am not a funk fan, but it sure made my boyfriend's week. It has a great selection and has something for everyone.
Great Wedding/Dance Music.......2006-12-03
We used this CD to create a play list for dancing at our wedding. People had a lot of fun!!
Review of Pure Funk.......2006-11-13
As a white Boomer of 51, some of these songs were very familiar to me. But most of the artists were 'one hit wonders.' This is why I ordered the compliation. The one song I really liked was "Kung Fu Fighting." Remarkable that the lyrics in "Shaft" were so very limited. The movie was much better.
Getting Funky.......2006-11-10
This CD has some great funk and disco tunes. Really great for a 70's party, or any party for that matter. You will not be disappointed.

Customer Reviews:
Controversial second effort from the Pure Funk series.......2004-10-12
The second and more controversial disc in the Pure Funk series, Pure Funk Vol. 2 contains many Funk band and Funk artist's slightly lesser known hits plus a few from groups not immediately recognizable as masters of Funk. The songs are a bit slower in tempo and might be a better album to play at the end of the night when the party is winding down -- not when you want to crank things up.
There are a few highlights, however. One can't help but recall the local boys feeble attempts at stripping in the movie "The Full Monty" whenever Hot Chocolate's "You Sexy Thing" begins. While Queen certainly wasn't a Funk band by anyone's stretch of imagination, they did write one excellent, kickin' base line for "Another One Bites The Dust" that's instantly recognizable anywhere and would make any Funk band proud to call their own! Stomp twice on the bleachers and clap! Marvin Gaye's "Got to Give It Up" is always a crowd pleaser and Barry White proves once again in "I'm gonna Love You Just a Little More" that the deep voice gets the girl.
For those not of the `Keep on Truckin'' generation, you'll discover the origin of many samples from your favorite songs (you mean they didn't write that rif themselves?!?!) plus you'll discover what song the Spice Girls ripped off for their album Spice World. Hint: She's a Bad Mama Jama . . . . Just don't tell anyone you think all of this stuff is funk, because it's not. That doesn't mean you won't enjoy the album as much as I did, just know that the first Pure Funk album is a better `Funk primer.'
Like the first Pure Funk album, not everything is from the 70's funk era -- half of the songs in fact. "Let It Whip" by Dazz Band, "Ain't Nobody" from Rufus & Chaka Khan, D Train's "You're The One For Me," The Gap Band's "Outstanding" were all early to mid 80's hits. "Get Down On It" by Kool & The Gang, The Whispers "It's a Love Thing," Rick James' "Give it to Me Baby," Carl Carlton's "She's a Bad Mama Jama," and Junior's "Mama Used to Say" were all released in the year 1981.
Twenty songs for ten bucks -- that's 50 cents a song. If you delete the songs on the album you don't consider "Funk," you're only out a few bucks. Buy this album only after you get the first album first.
I know what I like.......2002-03-20
A lot of the other reviewers have blasted this CD because it is not a true funk compilation. Well, maybe so. I don't know. I'm not a connoisseur of the art form. All I know is that I enjoyed the hell out of these songs (with the exception of Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust," which I could happily live the rest of my life without hearing again). I was exclusively into metal when these songs came around the first time, so it's a pleasure to be exposed to so many great pop songs that I was only dimly aware of, if I had heard them at all.
Soft and commercial.......2001-12-21
Seems like they sold too many of the first volume, and have produced a second just to try to rake in a little more. Hardly any of the tracks on this album are funk, and as for Queen being the opener... it speaks for itself. To me, funk is typified by an active bass line, compelling beat and sharp guitar or brass; any or all of these are lacking on most of the tracks here. What you get instead is a collection of slothful, disparate songs, hardly conducive to dancing. Save your money.
Not FUNK!!!.......2001-11-28
This is, in no way, shape or form, funk!!! I mean, how the hell is "Another One Bites The Dust" funk?! My God!!! This is sure as hell not "Pure Funk", this is soft, white funk!!! (...)
pure non funk 2.......2001-10-10
funk is that kinda vibe you eat hotwings and groove at fish fries funk is when you come out of church's chicken jamming, sorry but half this cd is not funk, d train is bubblegum pop, gap band outstanding is not funky enough, but hits, why is queen on here they was not a funk group, the whispers no way hose, carl carlton's she's a bad mama jama is not a funk classic, i always said these funk compilations does the artists injustice, if you wanna learn what funk is check out the original recordings well i'll list a few, the entire catalog, and entourage of james brown, parliament-funkadelic, sly stone, larry graham, bootsy collins, barkays, ohio players, chaka khan and rufus, cameo, curtis mayfield, mandrill, earth, wind fire, war, the list is endless.

Jamie Foxx's Oscar-winning turn as Ray Charles could only touch on the musical highlights of the American musical legend's career. But for those further intrigued by Charles' savory musical roots, this seven CD/one DVD anthology of Charles' epochal career at Atlantic Records (who purchased the fledgling star's contract from a small L.A. label for $2500) is the ultimate chronicle. While the singer's recorded output for the label was typically shuffled and jumbled across a series of contemporary albums and compilations, this set offers them up chronologically as originally recorded in NYC, New Orleans and elsewhere, a gambit that allows a clearer insight into the musician's artistic growth and burgeoning confidence as a performer in the bargain. Though focused on the `fervent r&b and soul sides he cut before crossing over into country and pop in the `60s, Charles' Atlantic tenure also includes insightful excursions into small jazz combo work that further underscored the range of his incomparable gifts.
The final CD in the set is a treasure trove of unreleased (mostly) solo performances that range from a lengthy 1953 rehearsal tape to a handful of hotel room-recorded arrangement demos for his 1959 Genius of Ray Charles collection. The set's DVD is another welcome bonus, containing the legend's complete performance at the 1960 Newport Jazz Festival (though he'd just left Atlantic, his repertoire and band for the show are rooted in the era), capped with the modern reminisces of Atlantic founder Ahmet Ertegun. Lavishly packaged in a box that replicates a `50's-era 45-player and featuring a hard-bound liner book that includes reprints of the original albums' liner notes, a comprehensive sessionography and an insightful new essay from noted r&b biographer David Ritz, the collection lives up to its billing at every level: Pure genius, indeed. --Jerry McCulley
Album Description
Ray Charles is an American legend beyond compare. A ten-time Grammy-winning superstar who almost single-handedly laid the groundwork for soul music, Charles proved his mastery with countless jazz, country, R&B, and pop masterpieces as well. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the first year they gave the honors ('86), and his extraordinary career spanned seven decades. His remarkable life was celebrated in the 2004 biopic Ray-featuring Jamie Foxx's Oscar-winning performance as the artist-and now Ray Charles' musical genius is spotlighted in this comprehensive box of his seminal Atlantic Records era, 1952-1959. As preeminent music writer David Ritz notes inside, "These are the historic years of his creative explosion, the time when he reinvented himself as a musical revolutionary. These records will live forever."
Customer Reviews:
This Set Gave Me What I Was Looking For & More.......2006-08-02
For my taste, there seems to be three phases of Ray Charles' career... 1. His early Swing Time days (when he sounded more like Nat King Cole than Ray Charles) 2. The Atlantic Years (where the sound was raw, cutting edge, and powerful) 3. The ABC Years & Later (where the craft was more refined, instrumentally and vocally). What I had longed for was a compilation or box set that focused on those Atlantic days and drilled down past the standard Ray songs that are on just about EVERY Ray Charles CD you can find. For that, this set is unmatched. In addition to some of the more popular "live" cuts, there are a good 50 songs on here that I had never heard (I'm talking beyond the songs on "Anthology" or the movie soundtrack) that are fantastic and are every bit as much a part of my Ray Charles i-pod rotation as "I Got a Woman" or "Mess Around".
The real treat (in my opinion), is the 30 or so outtakes and rehearsal cuts. Here, you get to hear what it was like in the recording studio with Ray Charles... there is actually an 8 minute track that covers the recording of "Night Time is the Right Time", which allows you to experience how particular Ray was with the sound HE wanted. Knowing from past readings that multiple takes on a song were a pet peeve of his, one can actually hear his tone change with the band and the guys in the booth as the takes begin to add up... great stuff for any Ray fan who has wondered (as I often have), "How in the world does he do that?"
The only reason this set gets 4 stars from me instead of 5 is that there are many (as in 25 or so) instrumental tracks. Don't get me wrong, they are all solid jazz tunes (as good as any other jazz CD I own) but I would have preferred more of Ray's vocals. Still, my rating may very well not be fair. Afterall, it is the COMPLETE Atlantic Recordings.
It's quite a bit of money to put down and I pondered it for quite some time, but well worth it if you're looking for more than what you can find on a Greatest Hits compilation.
why there aren't more outtakes on this set.......2006-05-11
People complained about there not being more outtakes on this set. This might explain some things, since Ray Charles was an Atlantic recording artist:
"One of the most devastating vault losses in modern industry history occurred in February, 1978 in a fire in a non-air-conditioned Atlantic Records storage facility in Long Branch, N.J.
The warehouse fire destroyed virtually all of Atlantic's unreleased masters, alternate takes and sessions tapes by artists who had recorded for the label and its offshoots throughout its classic 1948-1969 first golden era.
Thousands of performances by nearly a hundred of America's most acclaimed r&b, soul, pop and jazz artists were lost in the fire. According to several sources, between 5,000 to 6,000 reels of tape were destroyed or damaged. Just a handful of the artists names reads like a short-form Who's Who in Mid-Century American Music." [...]
(Bill Holland wrote this for Billboard in 1997. I can't post the website this is taken from because A. won't let me.)
Atlantic probably doesn't have any unreleased RC in its vaults. I think the outtakes on this set were saved by one of RC's producers.
Great Music, reasonable price, stupid people!!.......2006-04-10
This set is great as far as it goes. All of the material is typical RC: wonderful. I was surprised that there weren't more out takes, however. If you have any of the other Atlantic sets there's a fair bit of overlap. (added June 5, 2006: I've since learned that pretty near all the older Atlantic material, including alternate takes, was destroyed by a fire where the material was being stored, which explains the lack of out takes and alternate material.) This set, along with the Rhino Ray Charles country music set makes a pretty darn good overview of Ray's spectacular career.
I was really shocked that so many people don't bother to read the label on the eighth disc, which clearly is marked DVD | Video. Naturally, it won't play on CD players.
Nothing wrong with 8th disc?.......2006-03-10
Um... I don't own this, but I was looking at buying it. Looking at the reviews, I see two people complained that disc 8 won't play in their CD players. Disc 8 is listed as a DVD, so it won't play in a regular CD player (try your computer). I have to assume there it nothing wrong with the product, but rather, the user. Just thought I should point that out to anyone thinking of buying this. I am giving it 5 stars just to offset the bad (mistaken) ratings

Intelligently Done.......2007-05-22
Me'Shell continues to impress me with her work! She is a true artist at hand. I am upset that I didn't know this experience when this album came out. This is more confrontational than her debut project, and I fell in love with her then! Sistah, keep speaking your mind!
Cookie: the anthropological mix tape.......2005-07-28
Meshell Ndegeocello is a once in a lifetime artist. Brilliant piece of work!
Cutting...edge...hip-hop for adults........2005-04-25
I first heard "Barry Farms" first on KCRW in L.A...then ran out and bought the CD. I am now arranging a cover for my band. Will have to have to give it to our male singer for most venues. I wonder if our female singer would do this one?
Bravura lyrics on the theme of Lesbian relationships, (toasted the ears of this middle-aged white male doctor).
Sensual but sophisticated, in no way obscene. Amazing.
esp. "Barry Farms" and "Pocketbook".
Very stylish jazz twists and turns in otherwise raw, throbbing hip-hop rhythms. First rate jazz instrumentalists.
Michelle's voice is the Anita Baker of street-rap. Hip-hop for adults.
Very, very original material and style.
(The righteous political/ghetto rhetoric on some cuts is sincere but has been done before. She should stick to her wry, I-don't-care ironic style when getting into done-before topics.)
At least 6-8 first rate cuts on this long album. Definitely not for kids, in every sense of the word. Worth every penny. Still amazes me a year later.
It's no "Passion"...but it's better than "Bitter".......2005-02-18
A bass player friend of mine turned me onto Meshell back when "Plantation Lullabies" was released in the early 90's.
I enjoyed it immensely. Then I bought "Peace Beyond Passion"
when it came out a few years later and that album placed her in the musical genius category in my mind.
I imagine it must be hard to compete with yourself whenever you release a stunning piece of work like that...particularly when you are allowing the events in your life to dictate the mood, tempo, and (unfortunetely) quality of your releases.
Meshell seems very angry here. There's nothing wrong with being angry, but when you put anger on a CD you have to know whether or not the audience wants to hear your anger. I didn't.
I just want to hear her kick out some nice groovin jams as she did on her first two CD's. The bitterness she exibited in her last release was even harder to listen to...what was it called? Oh yeah..."Bitter"!
There are a few of examples of nice groovin' jams here.,but much of it is overwhelmed with her anger. Being more of a jazz fan I listen to instrumentation first, arrangements second, then maybe lyrics last. Sometimes I don't even care what the artist is singing about as long as I dig the instrumentation and the songs have a nice groove and the album has a seminal flow.
The songs on this CD are too overwhelmed with politics, spoken word interludes, sound bites, etc. to allow you to focus on the music. I really hate when artists do that. Meshell, leave these tactics to Janet Jackson and gangsta rappers...your music is strong enough on it own without resorting to gimmicks.
If you are really into knowing what Me'shell is "feeling", then you will probably enjoy this CD more than I did. Meanwhile I'll just pop "...Passion" back in my car CD changer, crank it up, and enjoy her at her musical best.
Pure Funk.......2004-09-24
Cookie is the FUNKIEST...just the right mix of consciousness and pure musicianship. I bow to her bass. It's like that. "Earth" is the TRUTH...Gregoir's harmonica is almost as stunning as the lyrics on that joint. I'm a fan for life. I'm that fan that will buy her music even if she's singin the Popeye's menu. I'm there.

This immaculately conceived and packaged fundraiser for the AIDS awareness foundation is a sharp tribute to Brazilian pop. David Byrne, Milton Nascimento, PM Dawn, Stereolab, Gilberto Gil, and Crystal Waters (vamping through "The Boy from Ipanema") are among those weighing in with sophisticated tunes that will cross from cocktail hipsters to the leading edge of the mass audience. --Jeff Bateman
Customer Reviews:
rhythm music.......2007-06-08
I bought this for a friend after I bought it for myself. Great variety of songs. Wonderful for parties. Would recommend.
red hot and best!.......2007-05-14
of the many red hots i've listened to, this one is the best!
the music, those great catchy samba and bossa nova tunes that became wildly popular during the 1960s, are suited to each of the artists making a guest appearance on the cd.
among the highlights are the trip-hop infused 'corcovado' by everything but the girl, the dance-club happy 'boy from ipanema' by crystal waters--which also contains one of her best vocal performances--, sting's loving, pensive 'how insensitive', maxwell's calming 'security' and caetano veloso's highly erotic 'e preciso perdoar'.
the collection, generally speaking, is a great party cd and each song is treated with a great deal of ingenuity and integrity.
New Takes on Brazilian Pop.......2005-06-30
Now, mind you, I can't tell the samba from the bossa nova from...some other type of music that might be played in Brazil. But I still have an interest in hearing the quasi-tropical cocktail lounge-style pop tunes of this mighty South American giant. They speak Portugese there, you know. And are known to launch at a moment's notice into the lamabada, which is a forbidden dance.
Most of the songs contained herein were written way back in the day by Antonio Carlos Jobim and at least a few should be vaguely familiar: "The Girl From Ipanema", of course, but also "One Note Samba", "Waters Of March", and "Water To Drink". But these aren't the original versions--they're updates in a variety of styles. Some work pretty well, some will make you want to hurl (mainly Sting's take on "How Insensitive", which is droning and pointless).
Notable are: a punched-up synth-heavy "Ipanema" by one-hit-wonder Crystal Waters, jazz group Incognito on "Water To Drink", world-music-loving David Byrne and sultry Marisa Monte on "Waters Of March", the well-known Caetano Veloso and Ryuichi Sakamoto with the lesser-known Cesaria Evora on "E Preciso Perdoar", Stereolab's quirky and strange "One Note Samba", and Bebel Gilberto on "Preciso Dizer Que Te Amo".
The Red Hot series, which started with the Cole Porter tribute "Red Hot + Blue", has always done excellent work and this compilation is no exception. If you'd like to sample Brazilian pop music of a certain era but you're terrified of breaking out your dad's dusty old Jobim LPs, this is a great way to see what's what.
Also the liner notes are extensive and informative, so you really get your money's worth. I'm still not clear on the divide between samba and bossa nova, but I reckon that's my fault.

I enjoyed 1.Used Your Head by Money Mark, 2.Corcovado done by Everything but the Girl, the funkie beats were great, 3.Desafinado done by Astrud Gilberto & George Michael was soothing and relaxing, 4.Non-Fiction Burning was enjoyable 5.Crystal Waters' version of The Boy from Ipenema, LOVED IT!! the music makes your body want to move, it will be favorite, 7.Seguranca (Security) done by MAXWELL with that sultry soft voice of his & the music, this is a favorite, 8.E Preciso Perdoar done by Cesaria Evora & Caetano Veloso w/Ryuichi Sakamoto on the keyboard, Damn I love Cesaria's voice, she got off, this is definetly a favorite, 10.Water to Drink by Incognito w/Omar & Anna Caram was nice, 11.Dancing by Milton Nascimento was enjoyable, 12.How Insensitive done by Antonio Carlos Jobim & Sting, I didn't care for Sting singing this song, I do enjoy Sting's music but not this, he wasn't the man for it. 13.Water of March done by David Byrne & Marisa Monte was okay, but I enjoy Al Jarreau & Oleta Adams rendition on "A Twist of Jobim" better, 15.One Note Samba/Surfboard by Stereolab & Herbie Mann, I didn't care for that techno or computer sounding stuff, it sounded like the music on The Wiz when they were trying to get away from the trash cans, it will get a skip, 17.Black Orpheus Dub by Mad Professor, it had sort of a Rasta, funk, techno flair which was okay, 18.Chico Science & X DJ Soul Slinger, I couldn't get into that either, that will get a skip too, 19.Funk'N Lata's Sambadrome, was short & funky, 20.Giberto Gil's Refazenda, his voice went well with the song, 21.Preciso Dizer Que Te Amo done by Cazuza & Bebel Gilberto was nice, but the sound was off, it sounded like they were singing in a tube. I manly purchased this CD because it had my 2 favorite singers Maxwell and Cesaria Evora & I enjoyed both of their songs immensely. I am totally satisfied with this purchase and it will be one of my favorite CDs which I listen to often.
Great for Jobim Fans.......2002-07-16
If you like Bossa Nova, particularly Antonio Carlos Jobim, you will love this CD. It has covers by many current artists of his songs, as well as some other Brazilian music. I like how the liner has the lyrics in English, but almost all the songs are in Portuguese. The David Byrne Waters of March in an exception, where he sings in English, and a woman is singing in Portuguese, but it works out very well.
An excellent addition. I have most of the songs on the album on at least two other CDs, but the artists have played with the songs enough to complement the originals.

Album Description
Peaceful relaxation and meditation music performed on the Celtic harp by master harpist Paul Baker. Following in the tradition of The Tranquil Harp, The Ladder of the Soul presents eight improvisations in keys corresponding to the energy centers of the body. The improvisations are designed to ground your body, open and tune your mind, balance your emotions and soothe your spirit. The pure and ancient sound of the harp, sometimes called the ladder between earth and heaven, is ideal for relaxation, meditation and integration. Each track is provided with a suggested meditation.

beautiful music, beautifully played.......2005-03-30
Lovely music, not only played with great skill by Paul Baker, but also music whose heart and sincerity of compassion shines through. Not overly simplistic like some massage music, but rather with real musical interest and beauty.
My Heartfelt Review for "The Ladder of the Soul".......2004-05-23
I am continually amazed by the healing power of music. Especially harp music. As those who know me know, my healing from a debilitating stroke came about in large part due to the improvisational healing harp of one man: Paul Baker.
Mr. Baker is such a talented person. He could have chosen to record albums using his vast knowledge and technique on the large and impressive concert harp, piano, or organ. However, for posterity, he chose to record improvisations for healing on the smaller and more personal celtic harp.
How does one capture the essence of such music in words? His two albums, "The Tranquil Harp" and "The Ladder of the Soul" are groundbreaking in their simplicity and breadth. And each one has its own unique place in my life.
"The Tranquil Harp" helped me most in my physical healing. Its music is very basic, simple, and gentle. It has brought, and continues to bring, growth and strength to every part of my physical being. To play it is to bathe in regeneration and light.
"The Ladder of the Soul" continues this healing on the emotional and spiritual planes. It connects our essence to the divine in such a way that we emerge purer and more aware of our true being and purpose in this life. This is real health. Divine health. What a gift to be brought to us by one man. This album is so aptly named as it proves that the harp truly is "the ladder between earth and heaven," connecting us to the divine safely and lovingly.
Thank you, Mr. Baker, for sharing yourself in such a way that allows all of us to unfold in ourselves and in the world with true happiness and peace.
