As a huge Evanescence fan and as a huge fan of instumental music my thoughts on buying this album were this "what could be better than one of my favorite albums of all time being done with only the piano?" Well let's just say that this album is NOT the answer to that question. What Mr. Sano has done here is turned an incredible, amazing, energetic, moody, collection of songs into something tired, depressing, and very much lackluster. I do appreciate the fact that SOMEONE decided it was a good idea to perform Evanescence's music with only the piano because it really was a good idea. I only wish they had gotten someone else to perform the music.

From the very beginning of the album starting with Going Under which is my favorite song by Evanescence one can already tell the album is already in trouble. The original is so full of energy and emotion and this version has none of that. The melody is extremely slow and disjointed. Not to mention the fact that I think that when Ark Sano arranged this piece he might have tried to make it more intricate but is unable to play those intricate parts in his own arrangement. At times it seems almost like he's stumbling over the notes where as at other times there are these long pauses leaving the listener wondering where the music went.

I wish I could say that the album gets better after the first song but it doesn't. There is no life bringing to Bring Me To Life which is, like the original album, the song that follows Going Under. If anything life has been taking away from what Evanescence had created with Fallen. When listening to the album you have to wonder if the pianist could possibly be familiar with the group he's performing a tribute for because if he was there is no way he would have changed the tempo to the music the way it was changed. It's just so slow it completely throws off the music. Now I understand that when doing a tribute album the goal is to make their music your own so as not to merely be copying the original artist and I'm sure that there is a way to do that but unfortunately this wasn't the way to go.

Now I'm sure many will read this review and think that I'm being extremely harsh but you have look what I am comparing this album to. I am comparing this album to Fallen and Fallen is absolutely brilliant. This is absolutely not. I'm not saying that Mr. Sano is not a very talented pianist I just feel that this project may have been too much. It was gutsy that he would attempt it in the first place seeing as how big this album was for Evanescence and how people are used to hearing it a certain way. It took guts to try and change it up and make it your own. Unfortunately for him it just didn't work out. As for those who buy this album looking for something different from but still just as wonderful as the original, don't. You will be very disappointed.

When first I saw this album, I just had to buy it. I love piano music, I love rock music, and it probably goes without saying that I'm a huge Evanescence Fan. So when I saw a solo piano tribute to Evanescence, I bought it without even hearing a sample, assuming that it must be great.

The songs are arranged and performed by Ark Sano, and the album is released on the Vitamin label who are known for these kind of tribute albums. "Eclipse" is basically a tribute to the "Fallen" CD, and includes all 11 tracks in the same order as the original. This seems to suggest an intention to stay true to the original album, but musically, it does not.

The entire album lacks the energy of the original songs, and even the performances "My Immortal", and "Hello" (which are slow piano based songs to begin with) feel empty and hollow, and way too slow. It can't be easy to express the essence of a great rock band using only a piano, and it's pretty bold and risky thing to attempt! Ark Sano is clearly a very talented pianist and arranger, but it seems he is straying outside his area of expertise in doing this album, and I'm left wondering if he is even a fan of Evanescence' music, or if he was just a "hired gun" to do this recording. Most of the arrangements sound disjointed, and it's hard to follow the songs because the pianist frequently strays from the original melodies and inserts long pauses. He also has slowed the tempo way down on most of the tracks, which only severs to drain the energy from the songs, and fails to create the moodiness you might expect. Maybe he's trying to inject his own artistic interpretation, but in this case, it has a negative effect on the music. The best tracks on the album are "My Last Breath" and "Taking Over Me", as they stay pretty true to the original melody. But even these would sound better if played just a little faster.

I really wanted to like this album, but after listening to it repeatedly hoping it would grow on me, I realize it's a mediocre CD at best. Check out "Rockfluence" by Scott D. Davis, or "Night Divides the Day" by George Winston to hear how great a solo piano rock tribute can actually be. I wish Vitamin Records would have hired one of these guys to do this album.

5 out of 5 stars Really good for those who enjoy a different spin.......2005-09-25

Don't intend to rock out when you buy this album. Infact, don't even intend to have everything go the way the orignal songs do. This album places the tunes in a great rearrangement that will allow you to just mellow out. I have found myself often listening and imagining Amy singing.

If you like a rock tune that has been torn down to it's basic form, then you will really enjoy this.

As a 18 year old male pianist, I can certainly say that I've had my fair share of GOD-AWFUL tribute albums. But, don't get me wrong... This is probably one of the better ones I've heard this year! By the way, I am a DIE-HARD fan of Evanescence, so this CD was a true gem. Now, lets get back on track here... Ark Sano (the pianist) does a wonderful job remaking the Evanescence songs (which coincidently are in the same order as Evanescence's album FALLEN), and this CD even outdoes the STRING QUARTET TRIBUTE TO EVANESCENCE, which was also an incredible remake of the evanescence songs. Although I would have to say that the CD has one obvious flaw. SPEED! Most of the songs are pretty slow - slower then the original versions, might I add - but this just adds on to the beauty of the music. In fact, when I die, I want this WHOLE CD to be played at my funeral. And obviously "pace" isnt enough to take down the rating a whole star. Also, volume is good, because you actually notice when the volume gets louder/softer. I can just see myself now... Relaxing in a hot tub, dim candle-light, and the sweet sounds of this CD playing by my head... So, if you'll excuse me, I think I'll go do that right now! Hope this review helped!

I find this music can be relaxing at night. I don't know if many would consider that a good thing or not. It sounds great. I've heard a lot of bands that have had string tributes done. Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Radio head, Metallica ect. Other than the NIRVANA string tribute this is the best of the POP MUSIC string tribute CDS I've heard. I like the NIRVANA STRING TRIBUTE just a little more than this one but it's really close.

I loved the idea of strings playing Evanescence songs. I love violins and cellos and so I was very excited about getting this cd and hearing my favorite songs being played on my favorite instruments.

It was just...disgusting. It sounded off-key, and I'm nearly positive the quartet threw in extra notes. I wanted to try singing to these instrumental versions, but the extra notes kept throwing me off. I imagined that the instruments would be softer and follow more of how Amy sings rather than the drums and other instruments, but they did go more for the music rather than the singing when interpreting Evanescence's songs. The music was just too harsh. Harsh is good in rock, but not with many violins.

The string playing is absolutely atrocious.
The idea behind the disc is great, but seriously, the group is not dead; do they really need a tribute?
I thought it would be a good investment...stick with the real Evanescence disc's and decent string quartet playing - like the Emerson string quartet.

This CD is ok, some of the songs are in the wrong key (Going Under, and some others), but they tried. I mean, I can picture Evanescence's music being played classically better than most other bands...

Being a musician myself, The String Tribute to Evanescence is an okay cd when you're just in the need for background music. Some songs like "Going Under" are pretty good, while other songs like "Bring Me To Life" are too jarring for the ears used to hearing Paul McCoy belt out his lyrics intertwined with Amy Lee's and getting a messy carchophonic scrawl on an electric violin. Of course, considering the newness of Evanescence, there isn't a whole lot of pieces to choose from unlike, say, Tool. Regardless, the quartet does what it aimed to do, though it does leave you wondering how often have they played the original songs beforehand.

If you are a lover of both jazz and Evanescence, then I bet you will find these solid jazz interpretations right up your tin-pan alley. The work here is done, for the most part, by a highly competent jazz trio and they rework these songs with alot of passion, They seem to have a keen understanding of what made the songs good in the first place. Some of the results are quite stunning and sometimes even beautiful; others fall flat or, at best, seem a bit contrived in origin. Overall though I give this compilation 5 stars. I really like the stripped down, pedal-to-the-metal sax, bass and guitar interludes that make up most of the production. I keep playing this album over and over. G-Cleff hooked me because they rock in a jazzy and very hip way;)

I heard this from Itunes and then i bought it from amazon and I have to say it's brilliant work, and always soothes my mood when I put this on. G-clef is apparently a well-respected sax player and it shows. This album was not at all a parody, but a very well executed attempt to play the music of an entirely over produced rock/pop band by only three acoustic instruments, and whats more it sounds awesome! G-Clef's sax playing sounds much like a voice as he soars through the melodies.

I'm a jazz musician as well as the manager for a female-fronted rock band in Los Angeles. I can understand the direction G-Clef took with this project. Many bands will take material from another genre and adapt it to theirs, a la The Section Quartet, Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies, etc. I've never quite heard a rock album adapted to jazz and I can appreciate what G-Clef has done. It's not easy! I actually enjoy listening to the tracks on this album and as a saxophonist, I can very much appreciate the playing on this album as being excellent. The musicianship is great, although I believe the production is lacking just a bit. Overall, I think music geeks (like myself) and the general public would be able to find something they like about this album.

I would rather say, what a nice idea, but i think their motivation was doing a "parody" and i think thats why they call themselfs "G-Clef" (most of the Evanescence Tunes are written in e-minor -> G-Clef).
In my opinion they are just a view frustrated Musicians, which are "pissed-off" because of these young talented Artists, who selled a view million of the great work called "Fallen", and the G-Clefs didn't.

This CD is terrible! This music makes me cringe! Okay I'll admit it isn't as bad as the string quartet or gothic acoustic but, how could somebody like this crappy tribute. The good tribute is the piano tribute. I mean Evanescence is NOT pop or electronic or dance or whatever. They're a unique rock band! I know they sort of go a little electro sometimes but, it's still rock! It may not be very heavy. But, the best thing is that Amy has strong vocals like Epica, Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil, or even Kamelot. (But, when I say Kamelot I mean they both have good vocals, not the same gender!) And Amy's vocals aren't too opera like Nightwish. (You'll see what I mean if you listen to Nightwish's song "Dark Chest of Wonders") But, DO NOT GET THIS CD!!! You want the PIANO tribute!

This is the WORST thing I have ever heard!!What is the matter with that girl!?Has she no shame!!I just don't understand how they could produce and market this AWFUL thing!I swear to you I truly felt sick just listening to the previews of this cd.I'm telling you I just wanted to smack her!I am telling you this girl has no telant!i'm not even compairing her to Amy Lee!All I have listened to was the previews,and I happy to say I didn't waste my money and buy this cd!

Why do people that are not Gothic try to associate this band with the word. When I came accross this album I was stunned that it was even in a Gothic search. Plain and simple...THEY ARE NOT GOTHIC, NEVER HAVE BEEN NEVER WILL BE. If people think that this is Gothic...then they have no idea what Gothic music really is. So if you don't know than don't label.

I just want to say, that for those of you saying this is awful, well, you're right to an extent. The singer here isn't the best singer, however there are some parts where she sounds almost like Any Lee. And until you go and listen the tribute to Godsmack you're not allowed to bash this!!! Alright this right here is some good stuff compared the Godsmack tribute. Godsmack is my favorite band in the whole world, the guy on that sounds like a bloody deadite from Evil Dead! If you go and listen the Godsmack tribute album and then listen to this again, I think you'll have more appreciation for this album.

I pray ever waking moment that who ever wrote this will be dragged out into the street and shot...sever times. This wasnt even close to Amy Lee's singing. Go and buy the real thing if you Have not done so already. May i suggest Fallen or Anywhere but Home. Even buy a CD-Single but not this. If you do buy this I just might be forced to hurt you. Thank you that is all.

This is the most horrible album I have ever heard in my entire life! AHHHH!!! Just thinking about it makes my head hurt! This chick needs to crawl in a hole and never be seen again. First of all, NOBODY compares to the voice of Amy Lee. Her voice is so powerful and angelic. Who in the hell asked this chick to sing the beautiful sounds of Amy Lee?!?! I could be on crack and I would still tell her she sucks at singing. PERIOD!
Do not get this album. I'm warning you right now. It's a definite waste of money. If you have a pain fetish, then it is a must have for you. I wouldn't be surprised if the devil himself uses this album as a torture device in hell. Every copy should be burned and buried underground forever...

    This CD is not nearly as bad as people make it out to be; folks, get over the fact that the singer is someone other than Amy Lee!

    Static Heaven definitely has some talent here. The songs My Last Breath, Everybody's Fool, and even Bring Me To Life were done better by Static Heaven, in my opinion. However, the songs Whisper, My Immortal, and Taking Over Me sound better by Evanescence. Also, the bonus Electro remix of BringMeToLife is nothing to get excited over...

    All in all, it's a quality cd (and usually cheaper than Fallen).

    I'm not into Evanescence AT ALL and I heard this cd by coincidence. I only thought Imaginary (Origin) was okay. And as if Evanescence didn't cover My Tourniquet badly enough(yeah it's by SOUL EMBRACED actually), this horrid band must make it even WORSE.
    Compared to this, Evanescence is God -and me saying that, says a lot...I kinda dislike Evanescence-..
    Suddenly I feel so much more respect for Evanescence, that they arent as horrid as this band...

    Not great. The singer's voice is weak and whiny compared to Amy Lee's powerful vocals. But I have to give it two stars for the music. The music is great.

    Anyone who loves/worships Evanescence, this cd pretty much kills the band. Do NOT waste your money and by something that really is a more worthy tribute to Evanescence like the string quartet one even.

    I'm sorry that I have to give this album even ONE star. This album is TERRIBLE! I got out of the car after listening to this abomination and felt ripped off. The LAST time I buy a tribute album comprised of a single performer!
