4 out of 5 stars A great idea, but incomplete.......2000-10-26

Erich Kunzel plays the Bond themes? What a great idea! In addition, there are a few more selections in the same vein, like the cops-n-robbers TV medley, music from The Untouchables, Lethal Weapon, Beverly Hills Cop, etc.

Sometimes, you want to listen to the 007 music in instrumental only, and Kunzel and the Cincinatti Pops do a good job with the arrangements. But where are the rest of the songs? Missing are three of my all-time favorites, You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever, and Moonraker. I think the album would be better with 'more Bond, less other.' We certainly don't need TWO selections from Dick Tracy. And the theme from Darkman is stylistically quite similar to Dick Tracy; nothing is gained by playing both. Don't get me wrong; I like Danny Elfman (check out his "Beetlejuice" theme on Kunzel's 'Great Fantasy Adventure Album'). I just wanted to hear all my fave Bond pieces on the one CD.

Still, it's a keeper.

    5 out of 5 stars CD6: Go On Tour!.......2006-09-30

The liner notes on this CD tell us rightly that punk is dead. But like all real elegies this one announces a new birth as it proclaims death. I like to think that the manifest references to human sacrifice on the disc (Xipe Totec) might be thinking along these lines. And the new life here is first and foremost musical. You probably know that Chuck Dukowski was the bass anchor (and much more besides) for Black Flag in its early years. Amazing that Black Flag produced more than one of the most interesting bass players in independent music (check out what Kira Roessler has done if you don't already know). Both Dukowski and Roessler have gone on to do a lot of great work in many other contexts. The strange Black Flag/SST diaspora is still pushing musical boundaries everywhere: on this recording for example. "Eat My Life" has a contained but furious punk energy, exceeding minimal structures into free-form chaos and thrash noise, but always coming to ground in the shifting tectonic plates of Dukowski's bass. The band also has horns (bass and clarinet) which adds an unusual and welcome texture -- shades of Beefheart and the Mothers of Invention, as well as other punk/jazz experiments such as Greg Ginn's Mojack and of course Saccharine Trust. But in this Sextet Lora Norton's ferocious voice twists "jazz" beyond all reason. The voice sounds powerful, untrained and direct: a real rock n roll voice. The version of "My War" on here totally rips. "My War" with horns??!! F**king genuius man! This was a Dukowski song for Black Flag, and here it sounds even more furious than the Flag version, which is saying A LOT. But I don't want to wallow in nostalgia: this album is not just a blast from the past, as the funky cover graphics will tell you.. Punk is dead: long live punk. Or whatever we're gonna call it from now...

I love this album...I'm agree with the other reviews that the most talented musician in Jane's Addiction is the most obscured,Eric Avery...
I'm playing this album every day since almost a year.If you can,try to look for the "Chewingum E.P." too,it's even most awesome!!!
A strange thing:now Avery is playing for Alanis Morrisette(?!).

3 out of 5 stars Where is the sonic massacre?.......2004-09-03

This proof by Eric Avery contains very good tracks...as Lick,Friday,Sharkeye,Farm,Zulu...But where are the typical heavy sounds of Deconstruction and Chewing gum E.P.?The charm of this kind of music was quiet notes before a sonic massacre...Where is John Curry?Where is Thomas Von Wendt? The previous E.P. was another stuff...ingenious...what this is not.

5 out of 5 stars get this album.......2004-06-28

i bought this album online from iuma in '99 and it has been in constant rotation in my playlist for the last 5 years. it is the best post-JA album i have heard, and after listening to this album i realized that eric avery was a much larger contributor to the JA's sound than i had ever thought before.

5 out of 5 stars Opus of the Bear, I wish I found you sooner.......2004-03-14

I heard parts of this album over the last two years and I always thought it was a rightful successor to JA. When I received it in the mail and poped it in my CD player it blew me away. This is one of the best albums ever recorded and does truly show who helped to create the atmospheric feel in JA and Deconstructions. As one reviewer stated that this is a "beautiful record" and I fully agree. Better than STRAYS and richer than any ferrel/pyro/janes album to date. I really hope something new comes out of the Polarbear's creative force. Thanks to eric and the guys of Polarbear!

      5 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!!.......2004-02-27

Having had this cd for over a year (previous release through PB website) I can honestly say it STILL hasen't left my cd player. Just like the other reviewers said (and rightfully so) that Eric A. ws the true creative force behind Jane's Addiction. I have so much respect for him especially after he turned down Perry's offer to do a reunion tour. He stays true to his artistic vision therfore creating a BEAUTIFUL CD. They actually broke up a while ago but one can only hope (with the re-release of this cd) they get back together and tour. GREAT job ERIC keep it up!!!

      Album Description

As the former lead singer/songwriter for the Maverick Records recording artist "Summer Camp", Tim Cullen saw success with his album "Pure Juice" with the hit song Drawer. Since the demise of the band, Tim has been busy putting together his first solo project working with legendary producer Thom Flowers (Sugarcult, The Ataris, Toad the Wet Sprocket). After a very successful and highly visible tour in Japan with Sugarcult this past summer, Tim is ready to release his first solo CD here in North America.

5 out of 5 stars Tim Cullen Solo Effort Does Not Disappoint.......2004-10-12

Tim Cullen writes pop songs better than most. Heartfelt, catchy, and witty lyrics backed by a signature voice, driving guitars, and incredible drumming. This album is perfect for long drives with the windows down and moments alone with the stereo blasting. "All" is my favorite track. Tim, it's so good to have you back!

5 out of 5 stars the new Paul Westerberg.......2004-10-11

when I first heard this cd i was blown away. it was like listening to Paul Westerberg or Alex Chilton. very reminenscent of the Replacements and even Cheap Trick. then i heard the song Halfway Home on the radio and realized that i was finally a head of the crowd for once. if you like Jason Mraz or John Mayer then this is the cd for you. i have already bought a couple of copies for christmas gifts.

From begining to end this has got to be one of the greatest punk records in a long time. Lately I've grown sick and tired of this wave of Bubblegum "pop punk" trying to pass itself off as PUNK. It's refreshing to have an album like this come out and rekindle my love and passion for the music scene. DOOMTREE is punk/metal in it's purest form. It'll make you headbang till your ears bleed. Just make sure you play it excruciatingly loud like GOD intended it to be heard. Go out and get this record. You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Best Punk cd of the year?.......2005-08-06

The sound bites on this page don`t do this album justice; where this cd shines is on the choruses. Steve Zing`s voice is somewhere between Joey Ramone`s (Ramones) and Michael Graves` (newer Misfits), and it fits the music perfectly. This is Punk Rock, not hardcore or thrash, so speed isn`t the main focus and neither is aggression (although there are shots of both); this album focuses on songwriting, and it pays off in a big way. I can`t recommend this highly enough.
