Editorial Reviews
Product Description
Import only compilation features the classic 'White Album', lovingly remastered plus 10 previously unheard takes from the long lost 'Clover Sessions' recorded by the band during the same period, featuring 20 great tracks including the classic 'Pick Up The Pieces', 'Keepin' It To Myself', & 'Work To Do', plus detailed notes, band interviews & rare photos. Their self-effacing name to the contrary, Average White Band was anything but -- one of the few white groups to cross the color line and achieve success and credibility playing funk, with their tight, fiery sound also belying their Scottish heritage, evoking American R&B hotbeds like Detroit, Memphis, and Philadelphia instead. A giant of a collaboration between R & B Titans. Ben E. King on lead vocal adds texture to the great AWB sound. A must for fans of both artists

        Customer Reviews:

        5 out of 5 stars I'm not a rich man.......2003-03-18

Excellent record. I bought it two days ago (the lp) in a really decadent store in Madrid, Spain, for 9 Euros (aprox 9 Dollars) and I want the cd since then. As always the David Foster name on the credits was the only thing I needed to buy it, but I knew "for you, for love" since 1980 and it is a song that I never forgot though I didn't know it's name. If you're a rich man or a rich girl buy it. Why does it have this price, my God?

        5 out of 5 stars a shining westcoast album.......2002-09-18

This is a super album from Average White band. I read about this record at a friend, saw that David Foster had produced it and realised that this must be a fusion thats well worth to listen to. I bought the CD and I was stunned with delight from this albums supreme arrangments, solid funkgrooves, snappy brass and superslick vocals. On top on that you find David Foster's brilliant keyboard contributions and great songwriting. This is a very nice westcoast album and a perfect item to listen to on and on again. Note the wonderful ballad For You, For love with contributions by Bill Champlin of Chicago. Thats as smooth as it gets. A great album.

4 out of 5 stars Not the best AWB, but with some solid grooves.......2001-11-19

AWB was past its prime by the time this album arrived. It begins to show evidence of the self-parody that soon overtook and destroyed the (nearly) original unit. Yet, if you like the band this is still a respectable effort and well worth having. None of the songs are bad and a couple are very solid examples of the groove that only AWB could carve so handsomely. If you are a lover of good funk (and AWB was the very best) or an AWB collector, don't hesitate to pay the freight for this one. Remember, this import costs less than 2 domestic CDs you will probably forget a week after you buy them.
