True to it's name.......2007-05-25
They can't match Nile's incredibly _________ awesome atmosphere, but Behemoth are a ________ behemoth. This is what death metal should be. I love this!
Easily, the vocals are the weakest point, but they are pretty __________ cool, but sometimes, they take a bit of a dip. On the plus side, the lyrics of are so much better than the gore stuff. CC are the masters of that, so trying to topple them is kind of pointless. I saw live footage, and the atmosphere and the fact that the lead singer puts on one hell of a show makes me respect this guy lots.
The music is what makes the rest come together. Inferno drums like a raging fire, his name makes you feel like your blasting through hell. His blast beats aren't as fast as Flo, but the inferno is excellent. The guitarists are there, and they do what's best. Finally, a bunch of different instruments (horns, acoustic) add onto it, and the result? A ________ behemoth!!!!!!!!
2005 had great albums amonsgt all the worthless _____. It's not as good as Hefty Fine (Bloodhound Gang. Yes, go ________ yourself) as far as 2005 albums go, but 2005 was a good year for real death metal!
9.0/10
Vocals Need Work.......2007-02-09
I love this album in just about every aspect. Except, the vocals. It's way too layered, and because of this the clarity in Nergal's voice is highly obscured. Understanding his lyrics are at times very difficult. If you can get past the sub-par vocals, then you will discover that this is an insanely good piece of death metal. Make sure to see them live too, because they put on an amazing show.

Awesome Death Metal.......2007-01-17
What is it about polish bands??They're almost too good at their craft.I have to hand it to Nergal and co this is a powerful and mighty assault on the senses, the playing is unreal.Behemoth has very much it's own sound and vibe, but there are also traces of Morbid Angel and Nile to be found in the mix(which can only be a positive thing)words don't really do the vibe behind the music justice so check it out for yourself. In short this album rips your head off and sh**s down your neck and you're OK about it!
ZZzzzzzz.......2006-11-10
zzzzzzz..i fell asleep listening to this, its boring. the voice is boring and theres nothing is really oustanding here.

i know why u are here for, u wanna check , ehmmmm is this album worth my dollars ?, the answer is YES people. Just buy and u'll get one of the happiest moment in ur life if u really fan of death metal, in everytime u listen to this album.

best behemoth album.......2006-07-19
nothing compares to this album. a true epic. i bought the historica box set which came with sventevith, grom, the forest dream, and pandemonic incantations. all are great, but sventevith is the best. if you have "demigod" or "zos" and want to get more behemoth, i am warning you, it is definately different. WAY more black metal as opposed to the death metal demigod. on the contrary, if you like satanica or than you will definately LOVE this. more explosive. production is alittle lacking (to be expected) but the music is so good, it doesn't even matter. the production is an important element in the over all emotion in the listen. if is was any better, the cd would be different. it is hard to find in stores, so if you want it order it here. well worth to money and the wait. also, check out the limited edition box set. i own it and love it. check out my review for that as well.
just for the record, i'm not one of those "true black metal" a** h*les who won't lister to anything but underground black metal. i like cradle and dimmu.

Customer Reviews:
Blackened Death Metal.......2006-08-12
Largely considered to be a breakthrough album, Zos Kia Cultus is a monster of a release. The behemoth is noted in the biblical book of Job as one of the mightiest creatures that God created to roam the earth. Poland's Behemoth live up their massive name with this 2002 release by Olympic/Century Media records.
The blasphemous opener 'Horns of Baphomet' takes the listener by storm with this ultra groovy metal assault. There are also great acoustic middle eastern chords at the end of the song. Lead vocalist Nergal gives his harsh screams throughout the album and drummer Inferno makes his voice heard well on 'Modern Iconoclasts' and 'No Sympathy for Fools.' 'Blackest of the Black' is an evil onslaught of blackened death metal.
Along with Vader, Behemoth are leaders in the Polish death metal scene. They have toured relentlessly and made a big name for themselves in the past couple of years, especially after the release of 'Demigod.' Zos Kia Cultus is regarded as many to be their best release and it does make a good case for that. The lyrics are not really regarded as great, as they are unoriginal and blatently anti-Christian. Do not let the lyrics keep you from getting this album. It is great! Crank it in front of your preppy rap/pop friends!! I have seen Behemoth live twice, and they put on a killer show, complete with spikes and face paint. Great polish blackened death metal.
(Drooling like Homer Simpson).......2006-02-16
Death metal is a staff of life, and one of the only things that could possibly be more heavenly than brutal metal is brutal metal which is equally as technical. And if that's what you look for in great metal, Behemoth are a godsend. The members of this band are clearly much more mature and better musicians on this, their sixth full length album, than they were five or ten years ago. In fact, the guitarists (Nergal & Frost) and drummer (Ravenlock) almost deserve their own, separate review. The riffs are ultra precise and heavy, and the drum work is head spinning, mind jumbling and complex. To top it all off, Nergal's vocals fluctuate. But whether sounding somewhat high pitched (as in the first track), or low, and unintelligible, his barking is always very violent and mean. Songs like "Blackest Ov The Black," "Harlot Ov The Saints," and "Typhonian Soul Zodiack" are driven by absolutely ridiculous drumming, and "Here and Beyond" is backed by an insanely fast and skilled blast beat. Other highlights are the jackhammer guitars and machine gun drumming on "As Above So Below," the punching, almost thunderous riffs on "Hekau 718," the title track, which has catchy, pounding riffs and more great drumming, and (my personal favorite) the album opener, "Horns Ov Baphomet." Here, the guitarists play rhythmic, heavy chugging, cascading riffs over a blast beat and Nergal's shrieking vocals, and the song ends with a brief acoustic breakdown. All things considered, this is a great album. If you like death metal (even a little bit), make sure you pick this up and enjoy one of the finer things in life. Cryptopsy, Nile, Necrophagist, and Behemoth's 2005 album, "Demigod," are also highly recommended.
Better then demigod and the rest..........2005-10-08
While i did enjoy behemoth's laters work demigod and i think their previous albums are quite good? None of them impressed me more then behemoth's "zos kia cultus" for the simple fact that behemoth's production is truly good and their drummer & guitars are oustanding and makes me proud to support such great musicians... Highly recommended.
Damn, this is AWESOME!!!! Brutal Death/Black Metal!!!!.......2005-06-25
Wow, this record is awesome!!! What a totally unique, aggressive, and powerful record! Dang, this cd starts with a bang and never lets up. I love the first song "Horns of Baphomet". It starts with a brutal Morbid Angel/Slayer chug that just hits you in the gut and the record never lets up. I love the middle eastern style lead work on this record, very catchy and totally epic.
Alot of people are comparing these guys to Nile, but i dont think they sound anything like Nile. Where Nile just give you a huge wall of super distorted riffs at hyper speed, Behemoth give you alot more space and clarity at a more controlled plodding speed.
The Drums are brutal, more tribal sounding. They kind of remind me of Lamb of God's newest record, very natural sounding.
The guitars are very thick, but really dry and not overly distored. The bass is there, but doesnt stand out at all, just fits right in with the guitars. The Vocals are brutal low shouts, very aggressive and in your face.
I really have no complaints about this record, everything is awesome about this record. The lyrics seem to be satanic, anti religion themed, but they dont bother me. You cant really understand what he is saying anyways.
If you like older Morbid Angel, the slower "Raining Blood" Slayer riffs, Epic Death Metal, and Arise/Chaos AD style Sepultura, than you have to buy this recod now!!!!!!!
Very good.......2004-11-20
I saw the As Above So Below video and thought the band kicked ass. I just went and bought it and i'm only through the first 7 songs and i must say it's been kicking my ass since the first song. The music scene needs more bands that fall into this vein of metal. Not many bands are on the same level as Morbid Angel, Cryptopsy, and Vital Remains which makes this band such a good listen. Original, technical, and very very heavy. Great cd.

great death metal in a sea of false contenders!.......2005-12-28
Behemoth are one of the most brutal death/black metal bands out there, to have survived as long as the average death metal life span has the misfortune not to. Not only have they survived in record releases, but have kept the releases fresh; pummeling you all the while!
This release continues along that road.
What I like most about this release is that at this point in their career they've chosen to adopt a style remeniscent of the best of both Emperor and Morbid Angel. Other bands have done the same, but with no where near the same technical proficiency and creativity, while still keeping it brutal (brutal! brutal!)
If you like this, you'll love "Kia Zos Cultus" and "Demigod".
More Experimental then their later works........2005-02-20
I love Demigod to no end with all the middle eastern folk intros experimented on it but if you want to really hear Behemoth experimenting check out this album. Nergal even puts some surprising hidden easter eggs on this album which I will get to later. First of all is the industrial effects Nergal puts into some of the songs. Chains, spoken word stuff, wind, and just good mesh of everything. Just to hear the production by this band is a surprise to itself. That is if you have never heard the production from fellow Polish thrashers Vader. There is something about Polish bands wanting to give their best to their fans. Anyway getting to the easter eggs we find 3 hidden songs. The first is some weird chant that just scares the bejeezus out of you when it blasts on. Next is my favorite. It's a ripping cover of (get this) Queensryche. Yes I said Queensryche. Deathmetal sure knows how to honor the classic bands. Behemoth covers a edited track of Sister Mary from Operation Mindcrime. Man and I thought their cover of Wish from Nine Inch Nails on Conjuration was well enough this blows me away even more. Nergal even does some gothic singing though would have Geoff Tate banging away too. I tell you this band never ceases to surprise me. Check them out get this first and then Demigod then Zos Kia Cultus. Actually you should grab conjuration first since it's a limited EP if you really want to hear how they cover Nine Inch Nails. Then get the rest. Also if you want grab historica which is a box set of all their black metal ep's even from when Poland was still soviet bloc state. Too bad Nergal goes to no end putting himself down over those releases.
PURE EVIL.......2003-03-23
"We believe the majority of mankind should be killed because it is not worthy. It is not worthy of the gift of life". This album starts out with that quote, and the second you hear that you know this will be one undeniably evil experience. This album is fast, brutal and technical and any death metal fan should enjoy this as well as any other album from Behemoth. All songs are good but I believe the standout track would be the opener "Antichristian Phenomenon". If you like satanic death metal you can't go wrong with this CD or with this band.
outstanding.......2001-07-23
I'm defintely not a die-hard death metal fan, not even that much into metal to begin with. That much said, I have to say that Behemoth's 'Thelema.6' blew me away, it's intensity and raw sound make it stand out from the rest of the crowd. Which is what I can't stand about most of their contemporaries - they just play the same generic stuff, taking themselves way to serious. Behemoth seem to really enjoy what their doing and their enthusiasm shows: this album does not have one filler song, each one could stand on its own and all show a solid understanding of actual song writing. The drumming is superb and underscores the band's super tight structures. The vocals are your usual 'Cookie Monster' style but very raw, angry and yet never dull.
I would put them on a level with Nile: take a genre, use the traditional ingredients but bring out something that is genuinly new and surprisingly fresh. I guess Death Metal is not dead yet.
Even for people who like Mr Bungle better than Marduk a perfect buy.

Customer Reviews:
Behemoth's first great album, but definitely not their last.......2006-07-05
Only when Behemoth's fourth disc was released did blackened death metal truly start to take form. 2000's "Satanica" is ripe with blinding energy, intensity, conviction and astounding musicianship. This disc, which is Behemoth's first real death metal influenced release, is top-shelf blackened/technical death metal. These songs' punishing, ultra muscular rhythms ooze with nimble, blazing riffs, vocals which alternate between growls and high-pitched barks, deliciously evil lyrics, and almost constant, frenetic death metal blasts (which are seemingly played with virtuosic ease from one of the best, fastest, and most technically proficient skinsmen in the business, Inferno). The result is a monster, "Satanica", which is completely devastating, ferocious, and genuinely tight and brutal. These songs are stripped of excess fat, making every powerful, punishing track full of frantic, engaging energy and painstaking technicality. "Decade Of Therion" begins the disc on a strong note by underpinning jackhammer insistence of walloping bass drums with searing guitar riffs. (Track six, "Star Spawn", is also this way.) The thunderous second track, "LAM", is one of the best songs of this bunch, because it's backed by chunky power chords and catchy, slamming, lightning fast blast beats which anchor the song. A few other killer songs are the scorching "Of Sephirotic Transformation and Carnality", "The Sermon to the Hypocrites" (which features a deft, driving beat, huge, crushing riffs, and Nergal's retching, black metal-esque yelps which are designed to make the listener's skin crawl), the mostly instrumental and mid-tempo "The Alchemist's Dream", and the album closer (an untitled bonus track), which is slower but equally as bludgeoning and features demonic, monstrous bellows. "Satanica" is Behemoth's first truly great record, and, luckily, the band didn't stop here; they did (and are doing) what all iconic metal bands do: continuing to grow and perfect their sound. They produced another superb album, "Zos Kia Cultus", in 2002, and eventually dropped the godly "Demigod" in 2005. Newcomers are advised to start with that career-defining album, but "Satanica" is still a great, truly inspiring album and a highly recommended pick up for all fans of this band and genre.
Best of Behemoth's Death Metal Days.......2006-03-21
After being let down with behemoths recent album "Demigod", I figured there had to be more to this band than just the sound that I heard from Demigod. And I was right, Satanica is a vicious album from start to finish.
I enjoyed Nergal's unpolished vocals ten times more then the lack-luster enhanced vocals found on Demigod. They sound much more angry, and passionate in the sense that it seems like nergal is giving it his all throughout the record. There is also a stronger sent of behemoths black metal past on Satanica, Don't get me wrong Satanica is still death metal to the bone, its just the riffs sound more black then those found on Demigod. Or maybe its just the lower production value...
This is what Death metal should be, stuff that requires all your willpower just to prevent you jumping up and headbanging all over the place. In other words its very engaging music that will give you that great metal rush that makes you feel like going nuts. It has alot of power to it most of which comes from Inferno's killer drumming and Nergal's colossal riffs and solo's. I can honestly recomend "Satanica" to anyone who is into death metal. Actually, out of all of Behemoth's (death metal) albums this may be my favorite. Although I have yet to hear "Zos Kia Cultus".
Standout tracks are:
.: Decade of therion :. This is one of behemoth's best songs ever in my book. listen to it and know its glory!
.: Ceremony Of Shiva :. Great drum beats on this track, very original sounding track.
.: Of Sephirotic Transformation And Carnality :. An annoying name but amazing song. It never lets up just like Decade of therion.
.: Chant For Eschaton 2000 :. This is a pretty strange track with main lyrics sung in a chant followed by power metal esque vocals ( 0_0 ! ) it had me grin when I first heard it. Its a catchy track although you will have no idea what Nergal is saying until you look at the lyrics sheet. It also ends the album very triumphantly with brass horns blazing through your speakers.
The Best of Behemoth's Last 4 Releases.......2006-01-08
Man, Behemoth used to be an innovative and extremely good death metal as Satanica shows.
If you're into death metal, this is a must-have. Nergal's voice is so vicious and vengeful on this album your stereo will almost start spewing acid. The guitar parts are well-written, yet at the same time absolutely crushing (something death metal needs more of).
Probably the highlight of Behemoth's career.
Behemoth (a fitting name).......2005-07-26
This is the type of metal album that makes you damn proud to be a metalhead, seriously, this is amazing, this is what metal is.
Suicide on a platter.......2004-01-09
Damn, probably the most brutal and deadly release by these masters of the extreme, they have redifined bash your face into a windshield while chugging a gallon of blood. They pillage, destroy, and masticate with jaws of death. They are one of the most brutal bands alongside Anaal Nathrakh, Nile, and Origin (namely their "informis Infinitas Inhumantas" release). Check them out too, if you like Behemoth, I assure you, you won't be dissipointed with these other guys!
