For anyone who wants a bit of relaxing time, this CD is for you, especially when you're driving! The songs and musical pieces are absolutely beautiful and the vocals are angelic! You are left with a sense of peace and serenity. I recommend this CD to anyone, even to those who only listen to rock! Everyone needs a relaxing CD such as this one.

I've shopped for creative, intriguing and relaxing music for years -- found something occasionally, only to be disappointed when I bought the fiirst or second CD. But not with Secret Garden; I now own four of their albums, plus this excellent collection, and have never been disappointed in a single song. They are terrific musicians; their songs, mostly their own compositions, are uplifting, soothing, or toe-tapping, depending on the song. I can't wait for the next CD!

As further proof that the virtuosity of Jerry Douglas knows no categorical bounds, the biggest surprise on his predominantly instrumental The Best Kept Secret is a revival of the disco-era smash "Back in Love Again," with Alison Krauss supplying as much vocal funk as she can muster. The undisputed master of the shimmering Dobro (and a featured member of Krauss's band Union Station), Douglas also applies his artistry to the jazzy atmospherics of Weather Report's "A Remark You Made," pays homage to Celtic fiddler Aly Bain on the reflective "Sir Aly B," trades licks with guitarist Bill Frisell on the twangy "Lil' Ro Ro," and enlists John Fogerty for guest vocals on "Swing Blues #1." The album additionally showcases Douglas on lap steel, with guitarist Derek Trucks providing rock propulsion on the opening "She Makes Me Want to Sing." A breakdown with banjoist Béla Fleck and mandolinist Sam Bush on "Who's Your Uncle?" finds Douglas on more familiar turf at his bluegrass best. --Don McLeese

I've heard Douglas on various records and liked him quite a bit -- but most of his work has been in the narrow field of bluegrass. I didn't run out to buy this because I saw Sam Bush, Allison Krause and Bela Fleck were on it and thought it'd be another bluegrass mainstream record.

It is not. This is a fusion session; and while it pushes too hard at some points to be one (the version of "A Remark you Made" a classic of
the fusion repetoire, is a good but not great moment) it succeeds completely in others.

"She Makes Me Want to Sing" is a classic of tight fitting rock with a sort of Alabama-Allman Brothers flavor -- but what it reminds me of most is early Quicksilver Messenger Service or possibly the Grateful Dead from before Live/Dead. It is energetic, expressive, tight, and it rocks.

"The Best Kept Secret" opens similarly, but goes off into a Zawinul-influenced meditation before coming back to its roots. At moments it reminds me of Miles Davis, post 'Kind of Blue' but with railroad songs at the root instead of soul riffs.

"Lil' Roro" is a roots rocker with country blues as the taproot. "Swing Blues" is well described elsewhere, but it's also not bluegrass. "Ya Ya etc. is more like Bela Fleck when he's NOT being a bluegrass musician,
i.e., UFO-TOFU style.

Jerry Douglas brings his high energy, bluegrass-influenced, impeccably tasteful style to this, his latest CD, and God bless him for it.

Special surprise--Gabe Witcher, virtuoso fiddler--plays with Jerry on a song that Gabe wrote, "Snow's First Fall," a delicate melodic piece to balance some of the more hard-driving pieces on the CD.

This is one of the best collections of Regine Crespin. Of course, her Berlioz/Ravel set with Ansermet is definitive, but the beauty and soft womanliness of her voice can be heard in all the selections on this disc. The engineers went for her vocal best and they created a fine collection aptly titled "The Best of..." One would be unduly captious to find Crespin "brittle" of tone here.

It is by now, very difficult to imagine anyone singing "Il est doux" with more apt expression of the line than La Crespin. Wagner's Wesendonk lieder is simply sublime from start to finish and the Faure takes on new meaning. That she is comical, melancholy, fun and happy by turns singles her out. This collection captures all her awesome talent. Underneath it all seems to be a very, if I may, sexual energy.

Crespin must be heard to be believed and the miracle lies in that even her softest tones are really enveloping, never thin. All tones are open and this is why there are enough colors in Regine Crespin's delicious voice to paint the world a thousand times, but it may also be why she infamous for being short and edgy on top but I remind, never here is she such. She is a relaxed singer in superb voice, comfortable in her own olive skin and makes the most out of every word those poets wrote.

The whole collection is unique in pace, style, and voice. It is Regine Crespin...in a nutshell fabulous!

Folks, I just received my disc from England today (the cover is different!). This disc is one of the best collections that I've listened to in recent memory. The value is outstanding for what you get! The shortest song on the disk clicks in at 4:04. No "short" songs are on this disc. Now, go forth and get your copy of this disc while you can (before they're gone!) Five stars for this collection...

This is a great album it is loaded with great songs such as: Send
for me, touch a four leaf clover, love me down, when love calls, circles, am I dreaming, silver shadow, if your heart isn't in it and one of their trademark songs secret lovers!!!! I would truly recommend this album to any Atlantic Starr fan I can tell you this they had two great lead female singers Sharon Bryant and Barbara Weathers they both have oustanding voices and they are both beautiful women!!!!

    Imitation is often considered the greatest form of flattery. John Barry's oeuvre has been sampled by dozens of contemporary musical artists, and he is often credited as being the godfather of "trip hop" (check recent albums by Portishead and Mono to hear the Barry influence). The Academy-award winning composer has been producing music for over forty years, but this collection focuses on the artist's most commercially successful period, the 1960's. The instantly recognizable and inimitable Barry style is well documented throughout 23 varied compositions. Selections range from classic to obscure, and include all the title tracks from the early James Bond soundtracks. Barry's film and television music is the defining sound of that era - lush orchestrations, cool jazzy riffs, pure excitement. "Themeology" is an excellent starting point for the novice collector and equally attractive for the long-time admirer.

      Donna De Lory drew inspiration for her enchanting and ethereal pop CD Bliss from a deep well. Having grown up in an intensely creative environment--her father, Al De Lory, is a musician and record producer who has worked with the Beach Boys and Phil Spector, and her mother is a dancer and singer--it's not surprising that she would blossom into an artist in her own right. What is pleasantly surprising, though, is that De Lory should produce such a mature and accomplished work as her debut independent release. Bliss begins with "On and On," a life-affirming song that is right at home both musically and lyrically with Madonna's recent Eastern-influenced music. The best track in the set may be "A Woman's Pride," recalling Kate Bush with its funky, rolling rhythm and intoxicating, vulnerable-yet-strong vocal performance. De Lory and company gently bring us back to earth with the intimate vocal and cello interplay on their interpretation of "Amazing Grace," deftly capturing the sentiment and the essence of this timeless song.       Well-known as one of Madonna's longtime featured vocalist, Donna De Lory has written, produced and independently distributed her newest album, Bliss. Donna and her musical partner cellist, Cameron Stone came from wildly varying backgrounds to forge a common bond in their love of music. For Donna, music was ingrained in her soul literally before her birth in Malibu Canyon, CA. Her grandfather played upright bass and cello for the Warner Bros.Studio Orchestra, her father was a studio musician and producer for people like The Beach Boys,Phil Spector and Glen Campbell, and her mother a singer/dancer. Donna was formerly signed with MCA Records as a solo artist in 1993, where her self-titled debut spawned a number-one hit in Japan and a top 10 song on the Billboard dance charts. In 1994, after finishing a world tour with Madonna, she hooked up with now partner Cameron Stone and created the music for BLISS. BAND_MEMBERS: The current band includes Cameron Stone (Tracy Chapman, Jewel) on cello and guitar, bassist, Mark Browne (Melissa Etheridge), Donna De Lory playing harmonium, werlitzer & percussion and drummers, Jay Bellerose (Paula Cole)and Quinn.

      i first heard Donna De Lory on a movie called Women Of The Night. the movie was ok, but i loved the soundtrack, which was mostly Donna De Lory. she has a nice mellow voice that is easy to relax to. i love the cd, which was hard to find. it's a wonderful cd to relax to, but it still has a few upbeat tracks.

      Listen to this album and you will quickly realise that Donna De Lory is a songwriting talent to take notice of. I defy any serious music lover not to fall in love with the heart-tugging poems set to sweeping musical tracks. The personal topics on this collection seem to cover everything from death to romantic daydreams.

      Donna's voice is instantly recognisable and immensely unforgetable. Anyone with a passing interest in popular culture will know of her Madonna connection of many years. Buy this CD and see how Donna has transcended the Material Girls's world of throw -away pop to create a blissful masterpiece.

      I picked up bliss because the sticker on the outside said Madonna thought her work was worth listening to. She was understateably correct. I am looking forward to another Donna De Lory CD.

      Donna's Album "Bliss" it's simply amazing. I have been a Donna Fan since her 1st Album came out. The voice of this lady it's just touching and emotional. The lyrics of the songs are beautiful and the music makes you travel through all different kinds of emotions. I will really recommend this Album to you and also will suggest you to go see Donna LIVE! it is an experiece you will not forget.       I LOVE THE LYRICS, THE BEAT, AND THE STYLE, THESE BROTHERS BRING TO THEIR SONGS. WHATS IT GONNA BE BROUGHT TEARS TO MY EYES, MANY OF THE TIMES I'VE LISTENED TO IT. IT DESERVES TO BE HEARD NATIONWIDE, NO WORLDWIDE, SO FATHERS AND MOTHERS AND CHILDREN CAN APPRECIATE THE BEAUTY AND MEANING IN THE WORDS. THE BLUES MIXED WITH SWING JUST MAKES ME WANT TO DANCE, AND/OR MOVE IN MY SEAT. ITS ALSO THE KIND OF MUSIC THAT JUST MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD INSIDE.       The Brothers continue to build on the success and quality of their last album, "Let's get Back". From the rocking "Betty Sue" to the emotional closer "Talk to my Friend", they've crafted another collection of the highest quality songwriting.

      Sadly, this kind of music rarely makes the tightly formatted radio playlists. But, fans of tight musicianship, and heartfelt songs with real emotion will find plenty to keep them happy.

      Look for them live playing in Southern California. I've seen them dozens of times and they've never once let me down or given a show that was less than 110%. They are guys who love what they do, and they do it well...Give it a try, I'm sure that you'll love it!

      Emile Pandolfi has some tremendously beautiful piano music. Anyone who has not heard his music must do so, if not they will be missing out on some wonderful music.
