Like Aimee Mann, Jill Sobule had a hit early (1995's "I Kissed a Girl") and then was dropped by her major label. Now that the dust has settled, one can only hope that, like Mann, Sobule will reap the artistic and commercial recognition she deserves. Though no slouch in the melody department, Sobule really shines as a deft lyricist. On songs that act as many self-contained vignettes, she captures life's little miseries and epiphanies with economy and understated humor. Though she isn't afraid to tackle wide topics ("Heroes" reveals our icons' feet of clay with lines such as "Heard Babe Ruth was full of malice / Lewis Carroll I'm sure did Alice"), Sobule's specialty is to focus on individuals in a way that's both sharp-witted and compassionate. In the end, Pink Pearl's greatest accomplishment is showing that there are as many good song subjects as there are people around us--you only need to pay attention. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

I had to submit a review to counteract all the illegitimate fawning reviews. Her voice is totally annoying. More important, her tunes are just awful. The worst! People may think they like her but they are simply deluding themselves.

You must buy this CD for the first and last tracks at least! But I loved nearly everything on the CD. Jill is the kind of artist I never tire of listening to. I can listen to all of these songs over and over and never get tired of them. What's up with the CD being out of stock? Ah well. If you want this CD, I suggest you hie over to www.jillsobule.com and buy it directly from her. Then buy all of her other CDs, they're amazing!

Jill Sobule writes pop music with intelligence, heart, sarcasm and wit. In other words, she's just too good to ever be famous.
Still a great songwriter.......2002-05-30
Jill sobule has always been able to write wonderful songs. Little character sketches and plot twists, like a Borges or Roald Dahl short story in song form, pepper her albums. I'm really happy that while gaining backup musicians and studio production values, she hasn't sacrificed all the qualities that I liked in her previous efforts. The last album was headed out of the "girl-with-a-guitar" territory that she had done so well with her second album, but still hadn't quite left it. I admit I was pretty worried about where it would go, but it seems my fears were unfounded. A good album, and a great relief!

After hearing "One Of These Days" one time on the radio, I waited anxiously for this album to be released. I realized immediately that I was not a big Jill Sobule fan. Her talent is obvious, it's just not really my cup of tea. One Of These Days is really a terrific song...the lyrics made me literally laugh out loud, especially "one of these days/I'm going to touch the sky/like that awful song/'I believe I can fly.'" I identified with the lyrics especially since I hated that song, but most of the rest of the album left me cold...it was just a bit too quirky for me.

A Good CD.......2006-01-25
I'm 15 years old and I still think this CD is cool. If you think I'm weird, that's great for you, I don't care. I remember when I was younger I would turn it on and start singing and dancing to it. I loved it! My favorite song was 'Boys Will Be Boys' because, growing up with two older brothers, I could agree with everything Barbie, Teresa, and Christie sang. But now I'm older and I listen to other things. But I will never get tired of listening to this CD. Never.

Barbie sucks. ENd of story. LIsten to better music than this. Even kids should hate this. Listen to system of a down. I bet the 6 year olds would like that! hehe
Great dance cd.......2005-04-24
We have had this cd for a couple of years now and it never gets old. The songs on this album have a high energy beat that kids love. The songs are so well written that they could have been chart toppers for any of you teen pop stars. I was amazed that not only my daughter loves this cd and never gets tired of it but also my 11 year old son and I enjoy it. I would recomend it for any girl over the age of 4 up through teen who likes pop/dance music.

it's SUPER cool!I don't have it on CD,
but I have it on cassette.My most fave
song is "WonderLand",which is sung by
everyone's fave girl,Barbie.I like
ALL the songs.But on my opignion
"WonderLand" is the best.
I always play it in my cassette player.
I also think that Mattel,should make
another Barbie album.

I can say only one thing: They are the BOMB.
It's like, FINALLY! A teen pop band that isn't cookie-cutter pop! They write most of their own stuff, and what they DO write, is written cleverly. The band, as the last reviewer stated, play their own instruments.
Personally my favorite songs are the upbeat "Run Away" and "Through the Rain".
I'm sorta disappointed because on this page there isn't the list of songs...or sound clips...because these girls are great. You seriously get hooked from the fist note. In this world where teen pop comes and goes, mostly not impressing, untalented singers, Rubyblue really stands out. You listen to the first note, and you think, "oh, they sound original," and you listen to the whole song and KABOOM! You are mesmerized.
They are positive role models for teen girls, unlike the image that Britney Spears puts out.
I hope you take a chance on them!

these are mah girls!!!!! All of 'em have amazing voices!!!! Their songs all have a pop/rock mix and they're not your average prepy girl band. They are average teens like u and me except they make amazing music!

This is a great CD.......2000-06-19
This is a really cool CD. It works on my CD player. And just because its Barbie doesn't make it for little kids. It has some really great tracks.
A girl from Washington State, this C.D.'s great........1999-01-10
It's a pretty great C.D. It doesn't work on my boom box but I listen to it on my computer. I don't play with Barbies anymore but I totally think this C.D. is great. My favorite songs are #2 Boys will be boys, #4 One Love, true Love, and #8 Girl of Today. The other songs are great too.
