WHY USE DENNIS CHAMBERS?...........2007-04-22
well, in response to the "Why Use Dennis Chambers When A Drum Machine will Do?" review, why go to a live show when you already own the CD? Because it's not the same! I have seen Dennis Chambers maybe 8 or 9 times and he puts out to the max every time. He is clearly one of the best (and busiest) drummers on this planet. There is nothing wrong or lacking with his playing on this CD. It may not be the balls-to-the-wall performance that reviewer was looking for but Dennis's playing compliments the music. Some songs simply don't require an all out onslaught from Dennis. Anything wrong with that? This may not be a great CD but it's pretty damn good and worth a go. Take it for what it is, not for what you want it to be.
[...]
How could you even ask?.......2006-12-07
This is mostly in response to the review below asking why to involve Dennis Chambers when a drum machine will do. Upon first reading this my jaw fell to the ground and I let out an audible "gasp". Music is not about ego and always "playing to your fullest"...it's about the music and the song. That's like telling a painter that any and all of their work is no good without more brush strokes or more red.
It's OK to not be moved by this album, that's one's own perogative; but to suggest that Mr. Chambers wasn't trying hard enough to impress you seems a discredit to his musicality and breadth as a player. I feel that he (as always) was playing what was right for each piece within the context of the other musicians around him. Variety is the spice of life, and thank God for that because otherwise we'd all be listening to nothing but sine waves...
Anywho, as far as the album itself, tons of solid grooves exist and the group speaks with one solid, smooth and funky voice. If you want crazy, throw on a Frank Zappa album...
Incredible musicians.......2006-07-04
At first, it all sounded like the soundtrack of a video game. It was a little wacky for my taste. But further listening allowed me to really get into it, and I learned to like this CD very much. For starters, it is actually refreshing to hear great legendary musicians like Jeff Berlin and Dennis Chambers not overplaying, but making music for and with the rest of the ensemble. (Mr. Berlin contributes with a couple of originals, and in one of them he plays a lengthy solo, much like his own works, but that's about it, and Mr. Chambers gets to just groove most of the time).Mr. Fiuczynski and Mr. Lavitz are incredible, and the compositions are very interesting, also.
Highly recommended for fusion fans.
Why Use Dennis Chambers When A Drum Machine will Do?.......2006-04-08
I've been playing drums for a long time, Buddy Rich is my mentor. Anyone who has listened to Buddy knows he played the drums with drive and energy always, right to the end of his career. This album, more than others, prompted me to write this review. Overall, it is a decent CD but, when I buy something with musicians of outstanding talent listed I expect to hear them play to their fullest. I've noticed this with many drummers, the futher along they get in their careers the energy level drops off, or maybe they become complacent. I know when I play I give it my all every time. With Dennis on this CD I can only imagine several situations:
1. The other muscians told him not to over play.
2. They only had enough time or money to reherse the tunes once or twice.
3. Dennis only brought a snare, bass drum, small tom and some cymbals to the session.
4. He recorded the tunes from over the phone.
Don't get me wrong, I think Dennis Chambers is a fantastic drummer, but had I never heard him before this CD I would have not been impressed. It seems everyone else on the CD is playing to the best of their ability. If you've been gifted with special chops and talent, use it. It's not always about the money. It's about the music!
A Decent Modern Fusion Album.......2006-03-25
An all star cast and some great tracks, but like most fusion albums, a bit of padding and "where do we go from here?" type fade-outs, as evidenced by the "I hate the Blues but here's one anyway" some of the later tracks.
D'funk'd is a great opener, with a tasty guitar solo from Dave on (what sounds like) his fretless guitar. In fact he seems to use this all the way through the album. T uses a wide ranging palette of patches and inserts the odd musical joke here and there (witness how he has the bottom drop out of the world just as things start to get grooving in D'funk'd).
4 stars instead of 5 because, like most fusion albums, it suffers a little from the lack of pre-thought out composition. But that's not necessarily what we buy fusion albums for though, is it? And it IS a joy to hear such a fine ensemble jamming.
(If you want to hear what T. can do with more composed material, I highly recommend the Jazz Is Dead albums)

Superb mix for after work.......2007-01-10
Try this one on your day off with a drink before dinner, can't miss, add some Diana Krall and Buble' and enjoy the evening.I found this by just browsing Amazon and listening to the samples really a gem.
Use as directed! Great jazz, perfect for cocktail hour. .......2004-12-11
Another winner in the excellent Jazz Moods collection. Top artists doing upbeat but easygoing music. The always superb Kenny Burrell is indeed smooth on "A Smooth One." All-time great pianist Tommy Flanagan, one of my favorite musicians, shines on "Jeepers Creepers." Jimmy Bruno makes you smile when he does "Witchcraft." The great bass of Ray Brown is right on target on two tracks here. There are no duds on the disc. Don't be deceived by the bargain price -- be happy -- this is NOT bargain bin music. And at the price, it's worth a sixth star for value.
"Are you in the mood for Jazz & a Party?".......2001-12-11
Concord Jazz and Nick Phillips(producer) present "JAZZ MOODS - COCKTAIL PARTY", thirteen tracks sure to make your next party a swingin' success for every guest to fit every mood---a fine instrumental collection of music that's sure to add both a 100-proof spike and a touch of classic and sophistication to that next social gathering.
Step back, here are the stand outs ~ "FLY ME TO THE MOON"(Bart Howard), features Joey DeFrancesco's Goodsfellas groovin' the hippest beat---"SATIN DOLL"(Mercer/Strayhorn/Ellington), Kenny Burrell captures the moment for your party---"INKA-DINKA-DO"(Jimmy Durante/Ben Ryan), Herb Ellis & Ray Brown perform Durante's theme song in a big way---"HOT TODDY"(Hendler/Flanagan), Gene Harris my all-time favorite hard funk blues piano player, puts his signature on this one, perfectly---gotta love it!
Entire album is as essential for your next Cocktail Party as the beverage, snacks and good company---so "Jazz Fans:, spin this CD and let's party!

Customer Reviews:
Why hasn't Michael Franks done a Christmas album?.......2002-04-06
His ironic "I Bought You a Plastic Star For Your Aluminum Tree" is a signature Franks song that happens to be about Christmas. But his "Let It Snow", with a killer piano intro that counterbalances a conventional rendition of the song itself, isn't here--that's on Warner's "Jazz To the World". But I'll be damned if I can find "Island Christmas" or his pensive treatment of Guaraldi's "Christmas Time Is Here" anywhere but the peer share sites. That's 4--count 'em--songs and this dude still ain't done no Exmass album. Elsewhere on this disc, Bela Fleck does an interesting treatment of "White Christmas". All in all, this disc is a really decent Holiday collection when you consider the fact that jazz's improvisational nature can often be at odds with the fact that a Christmas song (even an instrumental) should be played as straight-ahead as possible. So you will notice that a lot of the artists here are from the smooth jazz camp, whose one-foot-in-pop ethic makes it a lot easier.
great christmas jazz cd. all the right moods and tones........1998-12-04
this is the best christmas jazz cd in my collection of over 10. excellent moods and tone for almost any occassion...i have taken it office xmas parties, small dinner parties and just listning at home alone. wounderful addition to seasonal music or any time during the year.

Customer Reviews:
Great!.......2005-03-06
This cd is great. Jon Faddis is screeching some incredibley high notes, and his band is tight. His scating is pretty good as well. Antonio Hart, who's heard of him? He blew me away. He also is on Ernest Ranglin's Gotcha! cd which is also great. The band is tight, and this is uncomparable to even Dizzy's band. In Night In Tunisia, the saxophonist (Antonio Hart) and the trumpeter (Jon Faddis) trade solos for two minutes, and it is probably the greatest trading of solos I've ever heard. Below is a cd I recommend:
1. Gotcha! (Ernest Ranglin) The cd is great, however it is a little bit of reggae. You might want to check it out yourself and listen to some of the tracks before you just buy it. It is all dependent on your musical taste.

Our boys are back!.......2005-12-15
I was very excited to find these albums available! It is well worth the price (I got mine from the marketplace for about $75.00). I was really anticipating the wonder of these recordings, and I was not dissapointed. All four men have beautiful voices all of their own that make up a warm, joyous listen. They are the Cartwrights that everyone remembers, and yet they have still managed to surprise us with a whole new wave of talent!
These fun albums will take you back to not only a time of timeless television, but of a time when actors were people of integrity and were famous not just because they fit/looked the part of a celebrity, but because they posessed real talent. The kind of talent that has withstood the test of time longer than any celebrity of today could get even close to.
Whether you're a Bonanza fan or a fan of one of the indevidual actors, you will love these albums!
It's like being there at the Ponderosa...........2005-11-11
I LOVE CD1 and CD4! CD1 is like being at the Ponderosa, listening to the 'boys' and 'Pa' banter back and forth!
There are TWO party mixes, first: Ben's Surprise Birthday party given by the 'Boys'. Second: The Christmas Party Special, which I was disappointed to hear only ONE song from Adam (Pernell Roberts), "The New Born King"...which he did beautifully!!
The music is good and I was surprised to hear that most of them could sing well. Hoss (Dan Blocker) always seems to be the comic relief person!
CD2 and CD3 are all Lorne Greene. It's nice to hear "Pa's" voice, but I'm sure I won't be listening to those two CD's all that often.
CD4 is my favorite!! Pernell's baritone voice is just wonderful!! I listen to this CD ALL the time! (Is it possible to wear out a compact disc from playing it too much?) His silky, deep masculine voice is just so soothing to listen to! (actually...I'm listening to it right now...)
The expensive price was definately worth it!
I highly reccommend it to anyone who is a Bonanza fan!
Enjoyable .......2005-09-03
Just wanted to say that I listen to the Party CD and Pernell Roberts CD all the time. The music is fun and really does make you feel like your at the Ponderosa. It was worth the price for just those 2 cd's and the book that comes with it-great pictures and stories about the actors. Kind of hard to listen to that much of Lorne greene though as I really don't think he had that great of a voice. I wish Pernell Roberts recorded more songs as his deep voice is very enjoyable to listen to.
Bonanza revisited.......2005-08-24
After waiting quite awhile before purchasing this item, I was richly rewarded. It is wonderfully put together with interesting information on the original tv series and wonderful cast photos. Pernell Roberts and Lorne Greene have wonderful deep voices and Dan Blocker contributions are heartwarming. Michael Landon's infectious giggle can be heard with clarity. The Christmas CD is a joy. Perhaps the most rewarding for me was the cheerful Cartwright chit chat which brings these wonderful characters back to the Ponderosa. Anyone remembering the series with fondness will love it.
A Bonanza Fan Must!.......2004-08-17
If you are a fan of Bonanza, don't pass this up. CD4 which is Pernell Roberts (Adam) singing is absolutely amazing. His voice is so smooth. I find myself listening to that CD more than the others. It makes the whole package worthwhile. Lorne Greene sings Ringo in English and a separate track of Ringo in French. He also does a lot of old west songs as does Dan Blocker on his CD. Michael Landon does a nice version of Shenendoah and Crazy Love.
You will love this collection and the book that comes with it is very informative amd has some nice pictures.

Great Breakbeats.......2000-06-18
This cd is off the hinges. You gotta cop yourself a copy. Especially if your a bboy(breakdancer). They have some massive breakbeats on this album like the *Mexican* and *Last Night Changed It All* that will just make you get down and rock the floor.
