5 out of 5 stars Amazing or what?!?!?!.......2005-11-24

First let me start off with that I first discovered this band and fell in love with them not that long ago... so my love for them is still pretty fresh. Nothing, that you've heard in the media this band is very original and creative. I'm amazed that barely anyone knows about them... They have been around since 1997! Anyways, this sound is crisp and fresh. With lots of (tastefull) screaming and guitars and sometimes even pianos. I don't listen to music like this (emo/hardcore/screamo) but its so good and its not only yelling and screaming like some pople might suspect. I gave them a try and you should too, because after them you'll have a new view of what music really is.

5 out of 5 stars Simply Awsome!.......2005-07-11

I don't know what else to say. That's the best way to describe it.

5 out of 5 stars Blood Brothers Are Everything But Complacent.......2006-03-05

The Blood Brothers will tease you with a bouncing bass line, and then break into a throat wrenching scream. Their unpredictability is evidenced in the catchiest song off the album, the five and a half minute closer "The Shame," builds and builds until it is abruptly cut, at first causing me to inspect my CD player. This is a band that plays with its listener, and you can be certain that Burn, Piano Island, Burn assures a truly involved experience; there is no way you can just put this album in and forget about it.

4 out of 5 stars If you're thoughts are sceptical, read on..........2006-01-19

If you're anything like me, in which case you like when things can be choppy, but flow in this sense, then you probably want to like the blood brothers, but can't get yourself to do so...

If you're like I was, you hate the Blood Brothers, but was told to listen continuously.

Knowing your tastes, you probably wanted to like the Blood Brothers, if you're into things like The Fall of Troy, The Number 12 Looks Like You, Heavy Heavy Low Low, or The Jonbenet, but you just couldn't bring yourself to enjoy it.

And finally, if you're like me, the only reason you couldn't like them is because the singing is just about the worst singing possible, known to any genre...

FEAR NOT! My problem was the same, and yes...Even still, there are songs I just can't enjoy. But, a good month or so of adapting will bring you to like them, at the very least...

The amount of listening required took away from my rating, but my giving them a chance and finding them to be good, boosted it.

It's almost as if this band puts you to the test. Only those who are dedicated to the scene could survive, and press on to own all the albums set out by the group.

All I'm saying is...Give them a chance.

Heck, give them fifty chances.

5 out of 5 stars An elegant, eloquent, drug-induced piece of creation...like the Bible.......2005-08-16

Blood Brothers, as of the moment that I am writing this review, is my favorite band.

There have been numerous bands out their that try to be unique by making unconventional beats and melodies. The vast majority of those bands sound like garbage. The Blood Brothers is one of the few that are talented enough to make beauty out of the ugly. The great thing about these guys is that they know what beats will move you, and each scream is put in just the right spot so its like you want to rock out to them by breaking out in a seizure. The spontaneous-sounding yet highly formulated keyboard melodies also add to the feeling. These guys are beyond comparison to hardcore bands like Converge or Dilingers Escape Plan, and deserve their own category of music.

Also, the lyrics are amazing. For example, the song "USA Nails" is a conversation between a woman in prison and a sex hotline operator. Throughout the song, completely through casual dialogue, the listener learns so much about the psychology of the woman, seeing through her self-denial. Also, while the conversation is dark and morbid, it is also hilarious because of its Aesopian characteristics.

The first seven songs of the CD are orgasmic, but the later half is somewhat lackluster. However, overall, this album is terrific.

5 out of 5 stars Differnt........2005-08-09

This Album is like building a wall blowing up and then putting it backtogeather. This was my First Blood Bros. Album, and let me tell you. I hated it at first. Im saying it right now this album takes some serious getting used to, the singers voice is so terrrible but in an awsome way, the guitar is spastic and choppy, but thats part of the charm. But after your ears are adjusted to the sound, its a toataly kick-ass album, hearing the 30 second clips wont really do it justice either, you have to hear all the songs back to back throughout the entire album to really hold on to its meaning. So if your new to the blood brothers, and dont like them at first, just force yourself to listen to them, i know it sounds weird, but you will apreciate it.

4 out of 5 stars Play it one more time, Sam.......2005-08-08

This review would start by explaining how calling this album "brutal" is a vast understatement, except that a) the word "brutal" is so often thrown around discussing dainty-by-comparison bands like Metallica or System of a Down that it has lost its persuasiveness; and b) "brutal" can't quite convey the feel of "Burn, Piano Island?" as a whole. I need more adjectives. The second that comes to mind is "crazy."

Like a pair of angry, toddler-aged Syd Barretts, Jordan Blilie and Johnny Whitney's disgruntled mental patient vocalizations don't just ring out over the din, they do most of the work to create it. Be prepared for this. The opener, "F*cking's Greatest Hits," manages to be hyperfast, screaming, hardcore punk, while, at the same time, getting funky! This bipolarity sets the stage for the rest of the album and its rabid delivery of what often sounds like the noise inside a madman's head, whether it be a hurricane of howling, gonzo guitars and voices, a more melodic flash flood of near-pop, or moments of ominous, piano-tinged clarity.

The Blood Brothers' three gears get shifted constantly, usually grinding against each other all within the course of a single song. Extreme variety like this might sound like a good thing, but to some it might also sound like a series of bloody car crashes. "Piano Island" is an album that mandates endurance on the part of the listener, since wading through some of the Brothers' tunes can become tedious after the novelty wears off, despite the high tempo and frenzied delivery. Unfortunately, that doesn't take very long. The band can only explode into a frenzy of noise in the middle of a good passage so many times before it starts to piss you off-although, maybe that's all part of the show.

More than anything else, the lyrics on "Piano Island" are what should ultimately win you over listening to it. I'm not one to go around praising lyrical mastery, as my psyche has become so dulled to "stay away from me, I'm dangerous, let's have sex"-type "musings" as to not even care what the band are going on about. The Blood Brothers' lyrics are pure, unadulterated postmodern POETRY which will undoubtedly seem "drug-addled" and "random" to others used to having "My girlfriend broke up with me!" near literally screamed at them.

There is some tasty punk riffage floating around in the soup of sh*t-loud insanity that is "Burn, Piano Island, Burn!," but if you're like me, there's only so much of Blilie's aimless throat-rending that you can take before you feel like YOUR island is going to burn. I mean, these guys make Cedric Bixler sound like a "nice young man" by comparison.

The Brothers at least retain the sensibility and decency not to cookie-cut screaming into an otherwise straight rock album like any number of vaguely angry larynx-shredders like Thursday, but what they DO end up producing is something on the edge of the realm of conventional explanation. Imagine reading a good book that's been conveniently "sectioned" by a Ritalin-deprived brat with a Sharpie and a pair of scissors, and you get an idea of how this album plays. Imagine what it would be like to have a volume knob and a 1/4" jack into your vocal cords at the age of seven, and you'll get an idea of how this album sounds at its loudest. Frightening? Maybe. But Bob Dylan went electric and, appropriately, shocked everyone; Dick Dale and burgeoning hard rock in general forced Fender to streamline their newfangled amplifiers to accommodate the crazies that tried to purposely overdrive the speakers. Now we're going for the throat, literally. Imagine how hard rock could sound in twenty years. Hardcore, dude!

3 out of 5 stars Mostly a decent CD.......2003-10-30

I wonder how many people saw the ad for this CD on TV and ordered it right away without looking further into the contents. Brightman? Bocelli? Pavarotti? Florez? Watson? All Three Tenors? All on one CD? Sounded like a winner in the ad. They don't mention the Main Title from Star Wars. Nor do they mention (even Amazon doesn't show it!), that Anne Sofie Von Otter's performance is actually a duet with Elvis Costello, who simply does not have the chops or vocal gifts that most of the other artists on this CD are blessed with. In fact, that song is positively dreadful, and it's all because of Costello's vocally-strained style. What the hell is he doing on this CD? The rest of this CD is generally fine, but certainly do not expect a CD full of classical music, and be prepared to skip song #2 every time you play the CD.
