VERY GOOD CD.......2005-07-19
I FIRST PURCHED THIS ON CASSET WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT. I PLAYED IT UNTIL THE CASSET BROKE. I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD EVER GET IT AGAIN. BUT I JUST KNEW IN MY HEART OF HEARTS THAT IT MUST BE SOME WAY THAT I COULD GET IT. THEN I WAS TOLD ABOUT AMAZON.COM FOR A PREVIOUS PURCHASE. SO I THOUGHT WHAT COULD I LOOSE IF I CHECKED THERE AND LOW AND BEHOLD THERE IT WAS. I THOUGHT THIS IS FANTASTIC. NOW I AM ON IT ALMOST EVERY DAY.
Been looking for this for over 10 years!!.......2003-09-09
I have to agree with the other reviewer. I used to listen to this tape all the time in my pre-teens and I have been looking for this for YEARS!! The songs are priceless and provide ultimate strength and encouragement for day to day life. I couldn't remember which Mass Choir is was and had to search them all before finding this gem. If you love gospel music, don't pass this one up!
More music less congregation noise.......2003-04-23
The ambient noises of the congregation totally distracts from the music. Can appreciate the joy and 'spirit' gospel music brings to a live audience, but on this CD, it is totally overwhelming . Compare this to the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir and it's like night and day. BTC allows you to hear and concentrate on the music, melody and harmony.. LA might want to consider doing more 'in studio' and less 'live' (or mixed) joyous noises.
The Best.......2002-01-17
I would just like to say that I am 23 years old, and this has been one of my favorite Cds since I was 11 years old. Well let me say cassette. Once you hear these songs, you will never forget them. If you like this album, then I truly reccommend, "Storm is over" by Bishop Jeff Banks. That album came out around the same time this one did and I still say these will always be my two favorites. These two albums have gotten me through alot of rough times.
If you can find this CD..........2001-07-17
...buy it!! There are only 8 cuts on this album, but all of them are gems that will really make you think about the goodness of God. This was the last of LA Mass Choir's albums that had the recognizable enthusiasm and sound that made them truly unique at the time, and this recording STILL sounds brand new. The production is really that good, and so are the songs. Because it's become a worn-out phrase, I hesitate to say that this album had the anointing of the Holy Spirit...but I'll say it anyway, because it is the absolute truth.
It's impossible for me to list highlights, because every song is truly remarkable. "Can't Hold Back" is one of the best investments you'll ever make; a rare and precious treasure indeed! (Also recommended: their "Best Of" package. Not as good as this one, but still worthy of 4 stars.)

Excellent Release by a Legendary Rocker...........2007-05-02
Even though I didn't purchase this CD from Amazon (I actually bought my current copy of it back in 1992), this is DEFINITELY one of Eddie Money's greatest albums of all time. Just about every song on this CD deserved to be a smash hit -- especially "One Chance", where he drives the vocal tracks straight home with absolute heart-felt emotion and finesse. He also paired up with Mr. Mister's Richard Page and Steve George on this one, who had provided the background harmony vocals. I especially like the ending of "One Chance", where the full band is faded out and Richard and Steve's vocal tracks finish the ballad with "Can't let it go on this way...(CLAP!!) Gotta get out of the rain..." Each and every time I hear those lines at the end of "One Chance", the hair stands up on the back of my neck and it sends a quivering chill up and down my spine!
Aside from "One Chance", pretty much most of the other tracks here are classic songs by the Money Man. My favorite track of the hit list here is "Take Me Home Tonight", which is almost as hard-hitting as "Walk On Water" from 1988's Nothing to Lose release. The latter is also a good album to pick up, and I have a copy of it as well.
Anyway, if any of you are into that hard-driving, 1980s-style, power-ballad rock style of music then I would highly reccommend this album for your media collection. Besides, after getting to hear "One Chance" for the very first time back in 1989 (after getting my first cassette copy of this album), I once had this short-lived inner desire to meet Mr. Eddie Money. But that, of course, is nothing more than wishful thinking.
Until next time, rock on....
Much more than the well-known Top 40 Songs released.......2005-12-14
Eddie Money's career got off to a solid start with his 1977 self-titled debut album, "Eddie Money". That album would produce two Top 40 hits that would become forever synonymous with Money's career - "Two Tickets to Paradise" and "Baby Hold On". Many attribute Money's success to his collaboration with guitarist Jimmy Lyon who would play a key role in the songwriting on that album. Following that album, Money's career would begin to go into a commercial tailspin as his follow-up albums "Life for the Talking" and "Playing for Keeps" would not follow the success of that debut album. Eventually, the partnership with Lyon would disintegrate. As the 1980's progressed, Money would release two more albums with little fanfare. Many would begin to think that Money would be one of those artists who would have his moment in the sun. So when Money would release his sixth studio album, "Can't Hold Back" - there was little hoopla surrounding the release of this album. When the first single from this album, "Take Me Home Tonight" began to ascend into the Top 10 and become his most successful single, it was considered a major surprise. The result would make "Can't Hold Back" Eddie Money's most successful album as it would produce another Top 40 single in "I Wanna Go Back". Overall, while it might be the success of the two singles that made "Can't Hold Back" Money's most commercially successful album, this album is also complete with a lot good music and is worth considering well beyond the two singles.
Eddie Money is a very good and talented vocalist. He has a very distinctive voice and that is a great part of his appeal. However, one thing I feel is a weakness on Money's voice is he doesn't have great diversity in his ranges. I don't feel this is necessarily a knock on Money, but it is just a fact. There are ten songs on "Can't Hold Back" - each of ten songs make good use of fitting Money's unique vocals on them. As for the songs, co-producers Money and Richie Zito deserve the credit for assembling a portfolio of songs that seem to work best. For each of the songs, outside songwriters were brought in. These songwriters might not be the biggest names, but there is some very good music and lyrics that come from them. I also think its valuable that Money contributes to the songwriting of 6 of the 10 tracks - even though he doesn't contribute to the two big hits from the album "I Wanna Go Back" and "Take Me Home Tonight". As mentioned, there is a lot of good music beyond these two singles - and it's a shame that many of these other songs were not released as singles.
Overall I'd classify this album as "Classic 80s" music (the sound of the early 1980s). I hesitate on putting this in the category of Synth Pop because I do feel there is a significant Guitar presence on this album that is prevalent on this album even though there are a lot of use of synthesizers. There are also several places where the use of the saxophone is incorporated into the music. In a lot of ways, Money can attribute a lot of the success of this album due to the fact that the "Classic 80s" sound was still popular during 1986 when this album was released. Following this album, the "Classic 80s" sound would give way to a much more natural sound focused around the guitar. Money would release a 1988 follow-up album called "Nothing to Lose" that despite sounding very similar to "Can't Hold Back" would not be as successful. I believe much of the reason is because by 1988, the music landscape was no longer receptive to that "Classic 80s" sound. I firmly believe that if "Can't Hold Back" would have been released two years later (in 1988) that it probably would have struggled commercially as well.
As mentioned the two big hits from this album are "Take Me Home Tonight" and "I Wanna Go Back". I believe "I Wanna Go Back" is the better of the two songs. "Take Me Home Tonight" is a nice song and Money's vocals are rock-solid, but I don't find it a very deep song. I also think that Ronnie Spector's small contribution "Be my little baby" was blown way out of proportion and is overrated. "I Wanna Go Back" has almost a "St. Elmo's Fire" feel to it. It's a very good song both lyrically and musically. I saw that another reviewer claimed that these are lyrics that many people can relate to - I couldn't agree more. This is exemplified in "What's been done has been done; What's been said has been said"
There are also many other standout tracks. These tracks include: "One Love", "Endless Nights", "One Chance", "We Should Be Sleeping", "Bring on the Rain", and "Stranger in a Strange Land". "We Should Be Sleeping" is probably the best song on the album. It has a great Rock/guitar edge and Money's vocals are right on target. However the best part of the song is the catchy chorus "Don't say bye bye bye baby bye bye" that will have you singing along. "One Chance" has less of a Rock edge and more of a Synth sound, but Money again delivers carrying the song with his most unique vocals and making the lyrics seem real. Overall, there are no bad songs on this album. I'd probably put the title track, "I Wanna Go Back" as the weakest, but even this isn't bad.
The liner notes include all of the lyrics and all of the songwriting credits. The lineup of musicians participating on each song is also listed. There is also a listed of production credits in the liner notes. Overall, this is a very good album - and one that is worth checking out whether you are a serious or casual Eddie Money fan.
An Excellent Moment of Mid-80's.......2003-12-14
Eddie Money's 1986 album including his largest hit TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT is also one of all time favorite albums. It is a nice album to explore Eddie Money music further than his compilation. I bought this album when Take Me home Tonight just reached top 5 of the Billboard single chart. Now I like this album a lot more than I did in 1986 probably because this sort of well-crafted pop rock is hard to come by these days. Other than Take Me..., I like hard-edged WE SHOULD BE SLEEPING, power ballads such as I WANNA HOLD BACK and ENDLESS NIGHTS. It is recommended for mid 80's pop rock fans that love Survivor, Heart,Starship and John Cafferty.
Great CD.......2003-02-21
I think this is a great CD by Eddie Money. My favorite song is Calm before the Storm. He has a great voice.
Eddie goes more pop with a great album!.......2002-06-07
This was one of the first tapes I ever bought. I've been a fan ever since hearing "Take Me Home Tonight" on the radio when I was about 5. (I'm feeling old now!)
1) His biggest hit and an a rock classic. Very pop, but buried beneath the vocals, it still rocks. Should be the Designated Driver theme! 2) Lyrically simple mid-tempo album track with saxophone use. I like this now, but coming between my 2 favorite songs, I used to think it was boring. 3) The next best song, sax driven, but more upbeat. One of those 'stuck in your head' tunes. 4) Another minor pop/rock hit, like #3, but a little more ballad-ish. 5) I can't get into this, sounds uninspired. Very slow, but not a love song.
6) Hardest rocking song on the album, not the most original lyrics, but who cares. Sounds like it could've been on "No Control," but still fits in here. 7) A song about weather, again mid to slow tempo with no "excitement," what was Ed thinking? 8) Part rock, part power ballad; should've been released. 9) Rocking beat, but again not real guitar driven. Not great, but good. 10) Mid-tempo sorta love song, good album closer.
(I hope I haven't taken up anyone's full lunch break by this time) This is one of those CDs that have such good hits that the other songs tend to be overlooked. There's 5 killer songs, 3 pretty good, and only "One Chance" and "Bring On the Rain" are like elevator music (well, not quite).
Eddie's next album "Nothing to Lose" sounds alot like this one, even though it only had 2 hits, it was strong overall, a little more soft pop/rock based, but with a couple harder songs.

VINCE GILL COMES ON BOARD.......2005-10-01
PPL's first release with a very young Vince Gill showcases his vocal prowess. While a valiant effort was made to retain some of the classic prairie sound, it was very obvious that the band was moving to a slicker more radio friendly sound starting with this album. Actually Pure Prairie League had become stale without Craig Fuller and was overdue for a fresh invigoration. To some degree Can't Hold Back is that breath of fresh air however it contains a few too many forgettable fillers to rank much higher than a 3 star.
The next two PPL releases with Vince further developed the new sound and contain stronger songs. And the guys were rewarded with 3 hits too.

Loved it. Like A Funkier Donald Fagen Project.......2004-03-26
Georg manages to mix R&B structures with contemporary sounds and instrumentation along with Steely Dan-esque horns and yes, guitar solos. Love the chords he uses for the tunes. A few downtempo tunes, so not entirely correct to label this "Dance", but they are all pretty pleasant.
"Mrs. Superficial" is the only one I don't like. Doesn't fit with the rest of the set. Otherwise, it would have 5 stars from me.
Georg Levin debut cd.......2003-10-25
The cd on a whole was pretty well rounded...it has a few standout cuts like "In my car and the smash hit "somebody new".,bu there werent any other uptempo dance joints such as "Somebody New"(which also features Clara Hill on vocals.)I hope that the cd gets some shine as well as some remixes done soon. The vocals are smooth & might remind you a little bit of Vikter Duplaix. What makes this CD a worthy purchase is the tightness of the instruments.

One of the better albums of the early days of gangsta rap.......2003-04-19
I bought this album (cassette tape) on a hunch back in the late 80's (or early 90's, can't remember exactly when), back when I was into gangsta rap. I was looking for new artists and took a gamble on this album. It ended up being one of my favorite albums of all. The words are witty and I really liked his rapping style. It's a meld of old school rapping and gangsta rap overtones. Kinda hard to describe if you've never heard the his music. His second album took a darker turn and tried to be too much of a gangsta rap bandwagon. It's a real departure from the first album--completely different. I think it's what killed his career--hopping on the gangsta bandwagon. You Can't Hold Me Back proved you don't have to cuss every other word to get your point across. Instead, he uses catchy words and phrases. I like all of the songs on this album. Each one is unique sounding and so unlike other rap. If you're lucky enough to find this album on CD grab it up! I saw it on a used CD web site and was fortunate enough to pick up both albums at once. It's not published anymore, so you're going to have to find it used. I have it in OGG format (compressed; like MP3) now, so I'll never lose the album again...

Instead of enhancing Beatles classics by incorporating a classical orchestra, all this record does is takes Beatles classics and make them sound like dull, pompous and completely unimaginative.
