Chronicle: Greatest Hit Volume 1 from The Cross Movement what can I say.......2006-10-27
Chronicle: Greatest Hit Volume 1 from The Cross Movement what can I say about this album apart from it is hot and every track is in a class of it own. Every time I get a Cross Movement album I always remember the Wu Tang Clan, while? There are a collection of top quality rappers and every one of them is a solo artist in its own right. I hope you understand what I am getting at, if you love hip hop you most have heard of them and yes they are not a holy hip hop band. Back to the album, Features tracks form Phanatik, The Gift, Cruz Cordero, T.R.U.-L.I.F.E, Enock, The Ambassador, and The Tonic. Five tracks on the album are remixed they are as followings: Know Me [Huh what?] - The Cross Movement, C to the R - Phanatik, Rise Up - The Ambassador, It's Going Down - T.R.U- L.I.F.E and Forever - The Tonic. Like if that is not enough there are 2 brand new tracks from The Cross Movement and they are Da Truth Iz and The Drawing Board. I have to say it is good to see a track from Enock - On the Move feature after his great solo project do you remember it? Well this album is a most because it does not disappoint and every joint that is featured is tight. The only downside for me on the album is that there is not enough tracks because when I think of greatest hits I expect 20 tracks plus.
CM is the standard........2006-10-18
When the Cross Movement puts out an album, its a must own. Even if its a greates hits album, you can find a great selection of some of their best tracks on one disc, and they spice it up by taking familiar favorites and remixing them with fresh new beats. I have to first admit, some of the remixes on this disc are not as good as the originals, but if you have the originals on past CM releases then this is a refreshing change. If you don't have the originals, then you need to go and get them. The ambassador and the Phanatik are the best lyricists in all of hip hop, whether secular of Christian, and their content is full of truth. Its hard to find Holy Hip Hop artists that rep the true faith in every line, but people like CM, Reach, and Lampmode are always sure things if you want music that matters. Cm are the pioneers of legit Holy Hip Hop, and this disc is a great sampler of what they bring, and what God brings through them. Being familiar with every song they've ever done, I would have made some different song selections for a greatest hits album. One of the Ambassador songs is my least favorite of any song he's ever done, but even their worst is better than most Christian M.C.'s ever offer up. This is a must own.

On this first volume of The Mose Chronicles, singer-songwriter and pianist Mose Allison brings his idiosyncratic brand of southern comfort to London for this well-cheered live session. Flanked by a crowd that wholeheartedly embraces both his sardonic drollery and the supple rhythm section of bassist Roy Babbington and drummer Mark Taylor, Allison is in top form in this enthralling program that's characteristically wry and full of sharp wisdom. Mose is always divinely swinging, too, leveraging the hundreds of gigs he's played with this trio. Plain-folk advice marks the jumping "No Trouble Livin'," just as poetic social commentary rivets the sly "Everybody's Cryin' Mercy" and the joyfully apocalyptic "Ever Since the World Ended." Straight-ahead balladry comes to the fore on "Meet Me at No Special Place," an early favorite of Nat King Cole's trio. Allison's punchy piano style is as effervescent throughout the Chronicles as his singing is backwoods, and it makes for great listening. --John Murph

Addendum to my review.......2001-12-30
In response to the reviewer who expressed dislike for the similarity of the songs: With a live trio format, you get to hear the style of the players. The keys in which the songs are played are the choice of the vocalist. In this case, you're hearing the style of Mose. This is how he plays, and this is what it sounds like. As to the repertoire, the question for me is not: why did he pick these songs that sound alike? Rather, the question is: Is this what a writer and player like Mose wants to play for a live set when he's on the road in his 70's?
The answer: Yep. The man plays what he wants to. That's his red wagon, and I'm glad to hear what he has to say.
Intimate, intelligent. The best Mose........2001-12-29
Through decades, wives, Vietnam, 12 steps, and all, Mose Allison has been the one constant in my life. And this recording, produced by Ben Sidran, is warm and close. This is a trio setting, with an appreciative audience. Really, it's like they've never heard the lyric before and laugh at the appropriate spots. Not at all a sit-on-your-hands kind of show. It's a great trio, and Mose is on his game, as the very professional musician he is. A really rare collection from a unique writer and player. Great. Just great.
Live, and a great performance.....but!!!.......2001-03-15
There's no denying that this is another strong performance by Mose Allison, but..... My reservations have nothing to do with the Mose's performance of the material that he's chosen, nor of the other two players Roy Babbington on Bass and and Mark Taylor on Drums, who are as tight and supportive as any group that plays together so much ought to be. My reservations are about the choice of material which delves deep into his huge repetoire, but at times comes across in the programming as very "samey". Quite a lot of the tunes are played at a similar tempo, which over 22 tracks tends to grate. The other criticism that I have, having been to a number of the Pizza Express shows in London, is that there is altogether too few of the asides and stories that Mose interjects, which makes the live performances so vibrant. Here, Ben Sidran the producer has chosen to limit this to the odd "this was written by", rather than attempting to make it really representative of the delightful nature of the intimate shows that he hosts at the venue.Perhaps any volume 2 will rectify this. Live and a great performance...but!

Music For The Ear, Food For The Imagination.......2001-12-31
I have 4 of Mr. Serrie's albums, and this one, because of one song, is absolutely the favorite in my collection...
...Starmoods. I'm listening to it right now, and every time I hear it it conjures up images of endless skies, drifting clouds, and an impending sunset. It is a song of great beauty, or one of sadness, depending on your mood and experience.
It is serene and dream-inspiring-and what Mr. Serrie said in the liner notes for this album is something I discovered myself-there are subtle nuances in this piece that aren't obvious on first listen. I have owned this CD for a couple of years and I am always discovering a new gem hidden in the lush potpourri of sound...listen carefully and you'll hear it. I am constantly amazed at how much emotion electronic music can inspire-I am consistently moved to tears by this piece simply because of the intense feelings it evokes.
If you are looking for an album with up-front melodies and obvious tonal patterns, you will not find them here.
But, if you're looking for the perfect soundtrack to your dreams, music to inspire your own creativity, or sounds to merely relax by, this cd is a winner. (It's also perfect to listen to on airplane trips...this kind of music lends itself to being listened to amongst the clouds)
But, if you're crying at the end of track four, don't say I didn't warn you!
Good collection..........2001-10-12
This disc is worth adding to your collection if you are a Serrie fan. The track 'Starmoods' is worth the price of the disc alone, space music at it's best.
Way out there..........2000-08-07
In general terms, ambient music tends to fall into two distinct categories: "hip" ambient, composed by the likes of Pete Namlook, Terre Thaemlitz, Bill Laswell and the like and then the not so hip; Jarre, TD(these days)and others whose music tends to appeal to an older age group.
Serrie is lumped in there as someone for the 30/40 something crystal-type new-agers and I think this lack of respect from today's ambient music fans stems from a rather poor piece of imagemaking on behalf of Miramar. The packaging for Serrie's albums are dated in the extreme and the "friendly maestro" photos on the back do no justice. HOWEVER; the music is absolutely top-notch.
I'm continually in search of drifting atmospherics (early TD is my music of preference) and while I was initially put off Serrie for all the above reasons, once I heard his music I was hooked.
The music here isn't as dark as say, "Rubycon" or "Phaedra" nor as minimalist as Laswell's "Web", but if you took those two albums, threw in a healthy dose of Vangelis, you'll get an idea of what I'm talking about.
There are no surprises here. "Mystery Road" is a beauiful piece, drifting spacially through the mind, gently falling into the brassy intro to "Dawn Trader"... from there the track names cease to matter and the silence between them is barely noticeable. I like albums that flow from piece to piece and Serrie does it beautifully.
It may seem like old hippy space music (and it is)! but it stands the test of time never becoming twee or trite, but retains minor key mystery throughout.
Space Master.......2000-04-11
This cd delivers you to the edge of the universe and back! Finally I found true ET music! I play this cd at night and drift off to sleep. Very soothing. I'm one of those intense people who has a hard time unwinding and getting to sleep. This cd is definately worth adding to your collection.I can't wait to order some of john's Serrie's other cd's!
Music ahead of its time.......1999-09-15
Do yourself a favor and look at the DATES of which these scores were made. You will be surprised as to how old this music is - yet it still is awesome planetarium music. Don't listen to the nay-sayer who complains that they don't feel like they are in 'outerspace.' It's only music for pete's sake.

Space/ambient dreams........2006-04-21
I love Serrie's work - have been a fan since highschool. There is simply no better space/ambient music out there. I've used his cds in my yoga and pilates classes as well as a mental nightcap. If you have trouble sleeping, mediating, and/or winding down at the end of the day, Serrie may be your answer.
His work is surreal without being airy-fairy new-agey. It's dark and definitely more ambient. All the men I've introduced to Serrie's music love it.
Musings in Deep Space.......2006-01-05
There are already several reviews for
Jonn Serrie's various releases. The
Planetary Chronicles CDs offer Serrie's
sumptuous sense of deep space music and
is reckoned by many to be his strong
suite. Without being too 'dark' there
is a sense of adventure and just enough
of an edge to delight the ear upon repeated
listening. The fact that Jonn's work can be
listened to again and again is partly responsible
for the enduring fan base he has created for
himself.

Album Description
Mention nymphs, dwarves, dragons, witches, and magic spells to rock fans and they immediately smirk and conjure an image of the satirical band Spinal Tap- or something equally or far more geeky and unhip. What if we told you that French prog metal band Anthropia has written an epic composition that is inhabited by blacksmith dwarves, mocking sprites, mercenary barbarians, a talking horse, a cunning succubus, and seaweed-intolerant dragons (among other creatures) in a cross-dimensional fictional plotline? Still chuckling? Well, stop, because the mastermind of Anthropia, Hugues Lefebvre (nickname Hugo), is reviving the rock fantasy genre and ups the ante with the explosive, multi-layered first installment of a planned trilogy -- The Ereyn Chronicles: Part I: The Journey of Beginnings, based on the writings of Quentin Borderie. "I was not a huge fan of fantasy, but I was so truly captivated by Quentin's story that I wrote music around it," Hugo says. Hugo realized that the only way to capture the many nuances of the story was to write and record three separate records to coincide with the exciting episodes that sprang from Borderie's fertile mind. "With an in-depth story like this, we felt the best way to present the main events of the story was to separate them into three major parts," Hugo says. "Basically, each song represents a chapter of Quentin's novel." The CD you are listening to Part I: The Journey of Beginnings, which buzzes with flashes of Iron Maiden's gritty conceptual metal, Dave Mustaine/Megadeth lightning-speed riffing, Dream Theater's sweeping storytelling, Yngwie Malmsteen's neo-classical minor-scale mining, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway-era Genesis atmospherics, Kansas' busy symphonic boogie-rock, classical guitar beauty and flair, and Rush's dark `70s sci-fi/fantasy explorations.
Customer Reviews:
Too many mythical creatures, not enough bite.......2006-09-30
When I was in junior high school, my friends goaded me into reading J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. While I was impressed with Tolkien's descriptions and character development, I had a really hard time getting into the story. The suspension of disbelief required for such reading doesn't come naturally to me, and my mind raced through questions about some of the more fantastical aspects of the book.
In a small way, the debut album from Anthropia hits me the same way. It depicts a fantasy world filled with nymphs, dwarves, dragons, witches and magic spells. It's all a bit difficult to keep track of and frankly, I have enough trouble figuring out the world I'm a part of without having to deal with an alternate sphere.
In the real world, Anthropia is a band name for French multi-instrumentalist Hugo Lefebvre, who plays all the sounds on the album save for the drums of Damien Rainaud and a few minor guest performances. The Ereyn Chronicles is based on the stories of Quentin Borderie, who has influenced countless European metal bands and singer songwriter Aimee Mann. The Journey Begins is the first of a trilogy of releases Lefebvre is planning for his interpretations of Borderie's work. Musically, the album is an odd mix of Iron Maiden like metal, mixed with some symphonic boogie and Peter Gabriel era Genesis for atmospherics. Surprisingly, this concoction works fairly well together. Lefebvre takes full advantage of his tremendous gift at classical guitar and adds some thunderous electric and bass guitar overlays to give the production theatrical intensity. Lefebvre successfully portrays the drama and conflicts that bedevil Borderie's constructs and easily shifts moods to bring out the dimensionality of the characters and the twisting of the plot.
If you're into fantasy and metal, you'll love this album. Even though Lefebvre reaches into a grab bag of seventies and eighties music for his composition, he is true to the forms and sometimes surpasses the expectations a listener might have for a record so steeped in musical as well as mythic lore. In its own way, The Ereyn Chronicles is a bit anachronistic, but considering the material that inspired it, the incongruous aspects makes it even cooler.
But it must be noted that this really is a specialty item for fantasy fans. If you're like me and have a problem with suspending disbelief, you might like the music but the storyline will leave you behind. For those of us who aren't about to rock with The Ereyn Chronicles, I'd suggest investing in the CD/DVD of This Is Spinal Tap, and at least get a laugh out of the fantasy driven lyrics that almost made them famous.

Chronicles (1990.) Rush's first dual-disc retrospective.
Rush is, without question, one of the greatest rock and roll acts of all time. With Geddy Lee's high-pitch vocals and bass guitar mastery, Alex Lifeson's guitar skills that put those of his peers to shame, and Neil Peart's fine percussion work, the trio has won over audiences worldwide with many albums that combine elements of hard rock and progressive rock alike - and a plethora of other styles. There have been many hits compilations over the years - including the early nineties release Chronicles. How does this retrospective measure up? Read on for my review.

-THIS COMPILATION HAS EVERY BIG HIT FROM THE BAND'S EARLY DAYS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SEVENTIES, RIGHT UP TO THE EARLY NINETIES. The era this compilation covers is generally thought of as Rush's "golden age", and all the hits they created in these days can be found here. The band's first big hit, Working Man (featuring original drummer John Rutsey, plus Fly By Night, 2112, Closer To The Heart, Freewill, Tom Sawyer, and Limelight can all be found here for your listening pleasure.
-LOTS OF UNDERRATED GEMS. The compilation doesn't just focus on the hits; it really lives up to the Chronicles name! You've got Finding My Way from the band's first album, Anthem, and many of the band's severely overlooked late eighties/early nineties compositions.
-QUANTITY IS THIS SETS GREATEST STRENGTH. On this compilation, you get nearly thirty songs in one convenient set. No other Rush compilation even comes close.
-IT DOESN'T OVERLOOK LIVE MATERIAL. Rush released a number of live songs over the years, and this compilation features some previously unreleased live cuts you can't get elsewhere!.
-AT LEAST ONE SONG FROM EVERY STUDIO ALBUM (TO THE TIME OF THE SET'S RELEASE.) This is excellent, because it allows the compilation to beautifully demonstrate the evolution of the band. And it's good to have a set that doesn't overlook the band's forgotten third album, Caress Of Steel!
-THE BEST RUSH COMPILATION (TO DATE.) There have been a number of Rush retrospectives over the years, and this is as close to perfect as one has come so far.
CONS:
-TOO MANY MISSING GEMS. Where are Need Some Love, By-Tor And The Snow Dog, Cygnus X-1, Xanadu, YYZ, The Pass, Presto, and so many others? As much as I like this set, I won't lie - too much is missing!
-NOTHING PAST THE EARLY NINETIES! Because of this, there are no songs off of the Vapor Trails studio album, the Rush In Rio live album, and the Feedback EP. Damn.
-IN THE CASES OF THE LIVE TRACKS, THE STUDIO ONES ARE BETTER. Not to say these are bad renditions, but they should have stuck with the studio cuts!
-2112 IS EDITED. Of course, this was to be expected since the original version of the song is extremely long. But still, I can't stand to see lengthy rock and roll masterpieces edited.
-TOO PRICEY. As much as I like this set, the asking price is a bit too much - even as far as two-disc sets are concerned. The DVD included in the new version only jacks up the price further.
-RUSH IS NOT A GREATEST HITS BAND. Let's face the facts, no matter how hard the record companies try, creating a perfect Rush retrospective is impossible (unless, of course, they were to compile a box set of every album.)
OVERALL:
No, this isn't a perfect compilation. But for all the casual Rush fans out there, it's the one to buy. I personally would have to recommend shelling out the extra cash and buying all of the band's albums separately, but for the casual fan or the fan on a budget, this is the way to go. Four out of five stars. Recommended.

Customer Reviews:
Pretty good first volume...stinky second volume.......2007-04-09
I really like the first volume which takes material from their mid 70's period to early 80's. I might seek out some of these CDs like Oceans. The second volume is pretty bad with rather ordinary, boring songs. I tried to get into it but it left me with an empty feeling. The second volume is not prog, it's straight forward garbage. The first volume has some nice proggy moments with Floyd influences.
Eloy - If You Like Pink Floyd You Might Want To Check This Out........2007-02-11
I never was really aware of Eloy before I found this CD in a used CD shop a few years ago. "Chronicles I" is a compilation of material from the band's albums that was re-recorded in 1993 and 1994. Since I have never heard the originals I can't compare these versions to what came before. Being my first exposure to Eloy I really like the material on these discs a lot. The recordings are all crystal clear and sound modern (circa early 90's). Again, I do not know how they compare to the originals, but the material here is for the most part very good. I have heard Eloy called The German Pink Floyd, and there is definitely a Floyd influence to their work. Nektar also comes in mind as a comparison. This appears to be a good representation of the bands career spread over the two discs. The vocals are all in English with a fairly heavy German accent. Overall I really like this stuff and need to explore some more from this band. Caravan did a similar thing a few years ago going back and re-recording a bunch of their early stuff. This approach seems to work well, maybe more bands should try it.
Eloy into the 21st Century.......2003-09-29
Eloy have managed to do what most bands never think of doing, making a best of album by re-recording selected songs with a modern new interpretation.I have been an Eloy fan for more than twenty years and love all their albums, bar none. But the only observation I have about Chronicles 1 and 2 is the fact that their output from 73 to 76 is strangely omitted, which is a great pity. A song like Castle in the Air from 'Floating' with its mind blowing drums,or Inside from their 'official' first album Inside would have much more benefited from a new interpretation, using modern production facilities not available then, and it would have made an extremely interesting listen. The songs on Chronicles 2, especially the ones selected from 'Destination' are modern both technically and musically and did not require the same reinterpretation as much as the older songs did.
Nevertheless these two albums are wonderful introduction to Eloy, a joy to their fans, and a great addition to any progressive and music lover's collection, from a band that is truly creative and original.
Well Worth Your Money!.......2003-07-31
This double CD of both chronicles is a steal. Having only owned one Eloy album (Floating) way back when, I can't say that I'm an expert on the band but I am a long-time fan of space music or whatever title you want to give the genre. If you are a fellow music fan of the Floyd, Yes, Genesis, Camel, Nektar and the like, you will enjoy every track offered in this package. Of the many Amazon purchases I have made in the past year this one is by far the most satisfying. Brilliant guitar and keyboard solos bring the listener into the ethreal world of Eloy.
Get this CD. Five bright stars for this one...

eloy vol I&II chronicles.......2000-07-26
Eloy may not be your typical billboard top ten type of music. Eloy music was never meant for it anyway. It is meant for music lover of the mystical type. Only true followers of Eloy can understand what that means. Don't wait go get this album and you know where Im coming from. ( best men don't regret if no get it!) If they ever have any concert on DVD of VHS can some body out there let me know.
