Editorial Reviews
About the Artist
Los Angeles produced numerous rock acts in the 80s / 90s, and STORYTELLER was one of the citys most popular bands. In 1989, JEROME STORY found himself working at the same Hollywood Film Studio as STEPHEN TELLER and the two joined to create what would soon become STORYTELLER. They toured the westcoast extensively building a large and loyal fan base. The first demo was recorded in 1990. STORYTELLER was not only a hit with American fans but with Europeans and Japanese as well. This did not escape the notice of DON ARDEN (Manager of BLACK SABBATH) who immediately signed the band. Working with Producer JEFF GLIXMAN (KANSAS, ELO), the band began to work in some of the top studios in L.A. Unfortunately, differences caused the band and management to go their different ways. STORYTELLERs shows continued to draw increasing crowd breaking attendance records in many venues, the culmination of which was a soldout headlining performance at the ROXY, New Years Eve 1990. As th! e fate of many bands around this time however, STORYTELLER found itself in a changing musical climate. The recording industry was only interested in bands that would duplicate the sound of bands like NIRVANA. STORYTELLER had its own path to follow though and continues to develop its own sound rather than sell out, (much to the delight of Melodic Rock fans everywhere).

5 out of 5 stars The 80's will never die.......2003-08-12

I was turned onto this album by someone who would know how good it was, by Jerome himself. By the way, his non-stage name is Jerome K. Jones and he works in the video games industry now .../
After hearing me play song after song from the 80-84 period at my desk he offered to let me hear HIS go at 80's music, and I was very impressed. This album combines what was good about groups like Asia and Journey with a little bit of late 80's Def Leppard style harder rock thrown in.

5 out of 5 stars Its about time..........2000-11-21

I would just like to say that as a friend and ex-member of Storyteller. I have been a friend, of these guys long before Storyteller ever came to be. Having traveled to L.A. with my best friends in the late eighties, and after living the life of struggling musicians for far too long, I'd just like to say congrats to the guys, and its about time someone stood up and took notice. I am very proud of these guys after everything that they have gone through to be able to stick to it. Guys I love you all. JP keep strokin it, Craig you are still by far the best keyboard player I ever had the pleasure of hangin with in the studio. Jerome(Jerry) you will always have a special place in my life, and I'm sorry for all the time that has pasted. I'm sure Jackie is very proud. Hope to see you soon.

As for my review what can I say. I was there for most of these recordings, and even when Jerome would sit up late at night and sing into a set of headphones whenever an idea came into his head. Thanks Craig for putting structure to his brilliance.

What can you say about 5 part vocal harmonies, killer guitar riffs, and a solid groove. With this combination of musicians you can't go wrong. Keep it coming guys.

Always the number one fan.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent "newcomer" spinning a ripping yarn.......2000-09-29

Gee, i'll bet these guys had to rack their brains in order to come up
with a suitable name for their band. Formed by singer Jerome Story and
drummer Stephen Teller some ten years ago, Storyteller is responsible
for one of the best MTM releases i have heard in recent months. It is
one that is sure to feature prominently in my Top 10 ranking of
favorite albums at the end of the year. Unlike some Swedish
co-reviewer i could mention, i ordered this CD deliberately and with
malice aforethought. Considering the quality of their music, i am
anything but remorseful. Unless i am much mistaken, this ensemble was
the main reason for Billy Trudel & company having to rename
themselves Public Domain (which released a 1998 album entitled
"Radio nights"): after all, two Storytellers on one and the
same label is one narrator too many. Apparently there is also a Nordic
metal band operating under a similar guise, so any prospective buyer
should be careful not to get the two mixed up.

Returning to the
question at hand, i must say that i was mightily impressed with this
AOR/melodic rock outfit from the Golden State. "Corridor of
windows" showcases a delightful dozen of high-powered tracks,
combining unrelenting energy and capital melodies. This album features
strong lead vocals, an abundance of heavy guitars (for which purpose
Storyteller were reinforced by "guest star" Bruce Young) and
enough keyboards to send even the most jaded listener into a pompous
frenzy. Synthesizer credits must go to Stephen Teller, who also played
the 12 string. The remainder of piano and keyboard duties were
performed by Craig Campbell, one of the band's two regular guitarists,
the other one hiding behind the initials JP. Bass player is one John
Fagen. Teller shared production honors with Jeff Glixman, who produced
and mixed a third of the songs. Storyteller's music will appeal to
fans of bands like Steelhouse Lane, Balance of Power and Stun Leer,
while also reminding me of Tour de Force and Phantom's Opera circa
their debut.

There is little in the way of ballad oriented material
here. "Where is Daniel" is an acoustic based track with a
beautifully orchestrated intro and one of the brightest tunes on
offer. "Hello heaven" also has a balladesque structure, with
overblown keys that give it a progrock feel, but an uninspired,
somewhat clichéd chorus lets the song down a bit. No such complaints
are warranted though as far as the uptempo cuts are concerned, which
constitute the vast majority of tracks on this album. Each of these
have choruses that will put you on a natural high, with lots of
massive backing vocals. "In your arms" hints at the good
things that await in no uncertain terms. Starting with "Why
cry", the highlights follow thick and fast. This is an extremely
catchy song which, like "She Sherea", kicks off with a
wonderful piano/keyboard intro. "Like it or not" and
relative speed demon "Private eye" are no slouches either in
the keyboard department, as is manifested from their opening (synth)
chords through to their dying seconds. Title track "Corridor of
windows" opens with the onset of a breathtaking guitar solo. The
album's foremost claim to fame however is the epic "Wait till you
find me", which is over 7 minutes long.

Without implying that
they have reinvented the wheel, i would say that this is the kind of
album release that i wish i would come across more often. Not as good
as Dare or Harlan Cage (MTM's pride and joy), but a terrific first
effort nonetheless. If you want to blow your speakers with R & R,
and have it done Kenny Everett style (= in the best possible taste),
Storyteller are your band. Let's hope the story of their career is one
of the neverending variety.

4 out of 5 stars Back to the eighties.......2000-08-10

Hello music lovers! I picked up this cd by mistake, a mailorder company had two bands under the same name. The Swedish symphonic metal band "The Storyteller" and the American band Storyteller. I thought I had bought two albums by The Storyteller but I was wrong. Instead I got this album. And I couldn't be more satisfied.I love the rock from the eighties, with all the harmonies and arrangements. This is a top album which draws resemblence to bands like Harem Scarem, Giant and Europe. It has a blend of strings, rock edge guitars and high pitched vocals. The material is very good and deserves to get recognition. My favourite songs are Why Cry (best song on the album), What She Wants, and Corridor Of Windows. so if you melodic hard rock you should pick up a copy of this disc. Thank You Ginza for screwing up my order so I got to hear these guys.
