Originally released in 1986,as this was their fifth 'actual' record(is that all?).Either way,'Date With Elvis' showcases some great rockin' psychobilly for your listening pleasure.Just about every track here kicks ass,like the swinging "The Hot Pearl Snatch","What's Inside A Girl?","Can Your Pussy Do The Dog?","Cornfed Dames"(forgot all about this superb cut),the boot-stompin' "Chicken" and "Aloha From Hell".As with most Cramps releases,'Date...' is most worth repeated spins.Simply a must-have.

This album features the Cramps usual brand of rockabilly influenced punk (or punk influenced rockabilly), with a bit of surf music tossed in this time. This is one of the Cramps better albums. A lot of fun, raunchy songs like the classic "Can Your Pussy Do the Dog?". It even includes a rare lead vocal by Poison Ivy on "Get Off the Road". A must get for Cramps fans.
Kicks you in the head.......2001-07-17
The cramps are truly original and this album is one of their best. Lux Interior does his best psychotic Elvis imitaion on tracks like "Can Your ... Do The Dog?" and the opening track features Poison Ivy's vibrato pulsing country blues licks. All this and no bass player just pure garage rockabilly punk that kicks you in the head. The lyrics will make you laugh too.

The Cramps have shown the world that they have been a force to reckon with over the last 20 years. With every album their intensity becomes stronger, but most of all more sick. That to me is the true spirit of rock and roll! A date with Elvis is my personal fave. Who can forget the classics such as "Can your pussy do the dog?", and Hot Pearl snatch." The Cramps are the only band that I can think of right a-way that have remained true to their rock and roll roots and vision. Having met Lux, Ivy, Slim and Harry I must say they have a very intoxicating presence, but most of all are very kind people. (They always put me on the guest list!!!). Buy this album!!!! AllenGator

In 1959, Elvis was in the Middle of his Two-year Military Stint. RCA Records, with No Fresh Material to Offer Presley's Public, Cleaned Out Its Vaults to Come Up with the Material for Two Albums, "For LP Fans Only" and "a Date with Elvis". Tracks for These Albums were Drawn from Elvis' Early Sun Recordings, Songs from Movie Soundtracks, and Extended Play Singles. Despite the Circumstances under which They were Created They Are Remarkable Albums, If Only for the Fact that They Exposed the General Public to a Number of Presley's Seminal 1954 and 1955 Sun Recordings for the First Time: These Recordings Would Not Appear Together on a Single Non-bootleg Release Until 1975's Sun Sessions. "a Date with Elvis" Includes Some of the Best Sun Material (Unfortunately 'enhanced' by RCA with Added Reverb), Including "Blue Moon of Kentucky", "Baby Let's Play House", and "Good Rockin' Tonight".

This album features the Cramps usual brand of rockabilly influenced punk (or punk influenced rockabilly), with a bit of surf music tossed in this time. This is one of the Cramps better albums. A lot of fun, raunchy songs like the classic "Can Your Pussy Do the Dog?". It even includes a rare lead vocal by Poison Ivy on "Get Off the Road". A must get for Cramps fans.

Hands down, the best and most solid Cramps release EVER! Breaking away slightly from the straight up rockabilly sound to incorporate some surf tones only enhances this already great cd. We also find Lux not as dark and sinister; instead acting up in a fun and playful way with songs like Chicken, Cornfed Dames and Can Your P*ssy Do The Dog? . These songs show the direction the band would pretty much follow for the next several albums. Other highlights however are the songs Kizmiaz (Lux and Ivy's swooning duet) and What's Inside A Girl? (which shows Lux's admiration for serial killer Ed Gein). In all honesty though, there's not one dull track on this album! If you don't already have this one, why the hell not?!
Wop Bop a Loop a Lop a Lop Boom Bam! :D.......2003-08-07
My most favorite Cramps CD is undoubtedly 1986's "A Date with Elvis." Thanks to Poison Ivy's raw, slithering guitar rhythms and throbbing bass, a majority of this album's tracks are much more heavily inspired by 1960's surf pop than those of any other record that followed. In the midst of the crashing waves, sandcastles and tanned bikini girls, Lux Interior belts out playful narrative lyrics that juxtapose catchy chorus hooks with tongue-in-cheek sexual fantasies. And of course "A Date with Elvis" has plenty of cult classics. In both "People Ain't No Good" and "What's Inside a Girl," Lux vocally impersonates the late King of Rock & Roll, shimmering his hips in rhinestone bell-bottoms. "Kizmiaz" (one of the few duets between Lux and Ivy) beautifully paints a picture of the ultimate dream vacation, all the while repeating a chorus with its cute and naughty pun. "Cornfed Dames" perfectly provides the setting of life on the farm, with Lux milking cows and riding a tractor. He may as well have performed this track while hosting a square dance contest! Also note how this song's sleazy lyrics envision a group of buxom blondes scantily clad in barnyard plaid! "Chicken," another silly hillbilly track, features Ivy plucking her guiter strings, unleashing the feverish clucking sounds of a hen! I could continue on with my comments on "A Date with Elvis" but in that case, I would have to start another long paragraph! All I can say in the end is that this 1986 effort marks the Cramps reaching their height of rock creativity, as well as 1989's "Stay Sick!"
Elvis came back, and it ain't purty.......2003-01-31
The Cramps are the masters of punkabilly and purportedly the reason for the psychobilly movement, and they really come through on this one! Starting from the start, 'A Date With Elvis' examines all kinds of cultural questions, such as the great 'How far can too far go?' amd. 'People ain't no good' is a thesis on human interaction with Lux Interior (the lead singer). The songs 'Kizmiaz' and 'Aloha From Hell' visit exciting and exotic places to go in a punkabilly, ...sort of way. There's not a bad song on this, and the extras include a rare vocalization by Poison Ivy Rorschac, the attractive guitarist of The Cramps since the beginning. This album is a must have for the curiousity- seekers and old time fans of The Cramps.

You don't like crazy music.......2005-01-09
Back when Elvis was in the army, RCA Records was deperate for new Elvis albums. So, they threw together a few songs that had never been on an LP before and called it an album. Most of the songs here are from either his Sun Records days or from the Jailhouse Rock soundtrack. This is all great music, but this album has been rendered superfluous by later releases. Why get this when you can just get the complete Sun sessions or the complete Jailhouse Rock soundtrack?

Like its companion release (For LP Fans Only), A Date With Elvis has left varying impressions on different generations of Elvis Presley fans. If you were around in 1959, the first thing you probably noticed was that it was the gatefold jacket, with lots of really cool photos inside and out of Elvis Presley in uniform. Hearing this album - which contained not a word about where or when the music on it was recorded - one would have been struck by just how raw and lively the music was. As they had with For LP Fans Only, RCA had assembled a "new" Elvis Presley album by reaching back to five of the best of his best Sun Records sides, augmented with a few songs left over from the Love Me Tender and Jailhouse Rock soundtrack EPs. The 1954-1955 recordings of "Milkcow Blues Boogie," "Good Rockin' Tonight," "Baby Let's Play House," etc., with their lean textures, frantic sound, and Scotty Moore's slashing lead guitar, were a far cry from anything heard on his recent RCA soundtracks. It was the height of irony that the two "new" Elvis albums of 1959 gave national audiences their first real chance to plunge into the sound of the "old" Elvis of 1954-1955, when he was known as "The Memphis Flash" and "The Hillbilly Cat." A few years later, during the mid-/late-'60s, when some listeners started getting serious about Elvis' music, and others, born too late to have been buying the records in 1956, started discovering his work for the first time, the word got out about A Date With Elvis and For LP Fans Only - that these were the real article, at least as worthwhile as the first two RCA albums and the easiest way to get the King's early Memphis sides. By the second half of the 1960s, A Date With Elvis and its packaging had become irrelevant to 99 percent of rock listeners, but serious fans grabbed up copies - even Rolling Stone magazine recommended A Date With Elvis and For LP Fans Only (especially their mono pressings) in the course of guiding readers through the already confusing maze of his releases. By the late '70s, when the Sun material had been gathered together in a more orderly fashion, A Date With Elvis fell out of favor once again, and it has seemed superfluous for most of the time since, in terms of musical scholarship. But listening to it 40-plus years after its release, one is still hard-put to find too many albums that are more viscerally exciting; what's more, it is a reminder of how those Sun sides were best known for the first two decades after their release, and how they first got out to most of us. A Really Fun Rock and Roll Record.......2003-08-17
I have loved this album since I was a kid, the mix of early Suns and RCA is great, some of his best songs. This is one of the few rock and roll records that is just a heck of a lot of fun. (check out the Bonzos for some more)
The King's Crown Jewel.......2002-09-06
True Elvis fans know what others don't: "A Date with Elvis" was released a few years after Elvis debuted but it contains authentic "early Elvis" tracks from his raw Sun Records days. Here's the deal: It's 1959 & Elvis is just going into the Army. RCA pulls from the King's rich backlog of mid-50's tunes anticipating his time in the service and out of the studio. This album reveals a mature and confident singer. "Blue Moon of Kentucky" may be one of Rock-n-Roll's greatest songs ever. "Young and Beautiful" is a melodic gem comparable to "Love Me Tender" but quite unknown. And the rollicking "You're So Square" will surely be one of your new favorites. This album is vastly underrated by most people except serious Elvis fans. You will find none of these tracks on the soon to be released "Elvis30hits." Therefore, buy them both! Thank you, thank you very much!

This album features the Cramps usual brand of rockabilly influenced punk (or punk influenced rockabilly), with a bit of surf music tossed in this time. This is one of the Cramps better albums. A lot of fun, raunchy songs like the classic "Can Your Pussy Do the Dog?". It even includes a rare lead vocal by Poison Ivy on "Get Off the Road". A must get for Cramps fans.

Hands down, the best and most solid Cramps release EVER! Breaking away slightly from the straight up rockabilly sound to incorporate some surf tones only enhances this already great cd. We also find Lux not as dark and sinister; instead acting up in a fun and playful way with songs like Chicken, Cornfed Dames and Can Your P*ssy Do The Dog? . These songs show the direction the band would pretty much follow for the next several albums. Other highlights however are the songs Kizmiaz (Lux and Ivy's swooning duet) and What's Inside A Girl? (which shows Lux's admiration for serial killer Ed Gein). In all honesty though, there's not one dull track on this album! If you don't already have this one, why the hell not?!

My most favorite Cramps CD is undoubtedly 1986's "A Date with Elvis." Thanks to Poison Ivy's raw, slithering guitar rhythms and throbbing bass, a majority of this album's tracks are much more heavily inspired by 1960's surf pop than those of any other record that followed. In the midst of the crashing waves, sandcastles and tanned bikini girls, Lux Interior belts out playful narrative lyrics that juxtapose catchy chorus hooks with tongue-in-cheek sexual fantasies. And of course "A Date with Elvis" has plenty of cult classics. In both "People Ain't No Good" and "What's Inside a Girl," Lux vocally impersonates the late King of Rock & Roll, shimmering his hips in rhinestone bell-bottoms. "Kizmiaz" (one of the few duets between Lux and Ivy) beautifully paints a picture of the ultimate dream vacation, all the while repeating a chorus with its cute and naughty pun. "Cornfed Dames" perfectly provides the setting of life on the farm, with Lux milking cows and riding a tractor. He may as well have performed this track while hosting a square dance contest! Also note how this song's sleazy lyrics envision a group of buxom blondes scantily clad in barnyard plaid! "Chicken," another silly hillbilly track, features Ivy plucking her guiter strings, unleashing the feverish clucking sounds of a hen! I could continue on with my comments on "A Date with Elvis" but in that case, I would have to start another long paragraph! All I can say in the end is that this 1986 effort marks the Cramps reaching their height of rock creativity, as well as 1989's "Stay Sick!"

The Cramps are the masters of punkabilly and purportedly the reason for the psychobilly movement, and they really come through on this one! Starting from the start, 'A Date With Elvis' examines all kinds of cultural questions, such as the great 'How far can too far go?' amd. 'People ain't no good' is a thesis on human interaction with Lux Interior (the lead singer). The songs 'Kizmiaz' and 'Aloha From Hell' visit exciting and exotic places to go in a punkabilly, ...sort of way. There's not a bad song on this, and the extras include a rare vocalization by Poison Ivy Rorschac, the attractive guitarist of The Cramps since the beginning. This album is a must have for the curiousity- seekers and old time fans of The Cramps.
