Customer Reviews:
A score that is always in the daylight.......2002-12-20
Randy Edelman does it again with this Sylvester Stallone action flick. The music for Daylight is more muscular and powerful than some of Edelman's past scores. The main theme, heard in "Daylight" is a driving and upbeat melody played by piano and synths, with driving percussion and electric guitar riffs. "Latura's Theme" is a good one also with strings playing a slow, dramatic melody and Edelman playing the piano, which is not what you would expect as the theme for a Stallone character, but it is a good one, especially when it crescendos into a full orchestral wonder. "Latura's Theme" is the theme that you hear more often than the main theme itself and can be found in other tracks such as "Leaving George", "The Tunnel Claims Its Own", "Kit's Plan", "Survival", and several others. "Rats" contains some exciting string work and some muted brasses. "A Short Swim Under Water" is also good with electric guitar rhythms popping in here and there. "Light at the End" is the best cue, combining the two themes into one big finale, or what should be the finale. "Madelyne's Fate" is the final score track which should not of been, because "Light at the End" is a much better track to finish on. There are 2 songs to tail off the soundtrack as well. The first one "Whenever There Is Love" is a really good song that actually starts out with Edelman's main theme on piano for a few seconds. The last one "Don't Go Out With Your Friends Tonite" is not nearly as good as the other song or the score and should have been left off the soundtrack altogether. But overall a great soundtrack that will never be left in the darkness.
Good theme going on..........2002-09-27
As I watched Daylight on video, I noticed that as the movie went along, the score was just as important as the drama action that was taking place. Randy Edelman has created a teriffic theme that is much more memorable than the movie, and will linger in your head for hours. This is a solid soundtrack that can be listened to straight through. If the opening track sounds familiar (and you haven't seen Daylight) then that's because it's been used in countless trailers in movies in the past couple of years. Even the Donna Summer/Bruce Roberts duet is a nice touch at the end, cleverly working in the main theme into the background. And for all of you collectors out there, Junior Vasquez did club mixes years ago for this track that is worth seeking out.
Great Score.......2002-07-28
Many people may not know...the music is CONNECTED to the movie's every scene.. so if you complain about it being monotonous... then you probably didn't see the movie or realize that the music runs well monotonously as the movie goes on. if it didnt run well, you would have picked it up right? i really like this piece from Mr. Edelman, he has always been and always will be the best at movie music. in this cd, he doesnt show any inconsistency of his ablity to compose...
Good, but not great.......1999-12-24
While I found this score to be nice most of the time, there were a few times when it got monotonous, and too heavy. This detracts from it, and drags it down to a three star from a four. It does sound very much like an Edelman score though, and has hints of the well known (And one of my personal favorites) Dragonheart. What's nice in it, is pretty good, and it also has driving action cues, that are not dissonant, or not even really music, which is a plus. Another example of such music would be The Rock. One thing that I would also say takes away from the soundtrack are the songs at the end, mainly the last one. So I would say that this is still a soundtrack worth getting, although it's just not one of the tops, at least on my list.
The best soundtrack just like a symphony opus.......1999-04-08
Watched the music ,it made me feel upset. It is so much strained spectacle. But, soundtrack is very grand. Listening to it , you feel driving on the highway. And the #13 "light at the end", it like an symphony opus. Heared it , you would find that.

Album Description
The debut album `Black Skies In Broad Daylight' is the kind of hook-laden rifforama of noise that so rarely gets made properly, but The Living Things have managed it. From the opener `Bombs Below' through to the anthemic `End Gospel', awesome first single `I Owe' and beyond this is a head splitting beast of an album guaranteed to soundtrack hedonistic debauchery throughout 2004. Universal.

Customer Reviews:
Spotlight on Nina, not much else.......2004-05-29
Nina's voice is clearly the highlight of LGBD. She sings with a mature confidence, intensity and passion as never before. Much of this I credit to the fact that she wrote all of the lyrics and therefore genuinely feels what she's singing this time around. OK, that's worth the 3 stars.
The rest of the band is sadly un-showcased. If you've grown up with the Cardigans, you're probably a fan of innovative instrumentation (brass, flute ...bassoon for Pete's sake), unconventional drum beats (I've never heard five-four sound so natural) and most of all a TREMENDOUS sense of humor (Did they ever solve who killed the bakerman in "Closing Time"?). But you'll get none of that with this album.
All songs are in four-four (with the exception of 1 or 2 dabbles in waltz), all guitars are eighth-note-strumming to the beat, bass is predictably on the root at all times, and guitar solos are in Dorian major. You know what I've just described? Yes... country music!
I hope I don't come across as a country music hater, because I'm not. I'm merely pointing out that, aside from vocals, this album makes our beloved Cardigans sound too much like everyone else. That's something that's never happened before (even if you hated Gran Turismo, you have to admit that it was different).
A gorgeous, mournful, meaningful album.......2004-05-27
Nina and the boys sound sadder, stronger, wiser, and more-world weary on this album than on past releases I've heard... and that's a good thing. A good album to listen to while lying on the floor, drinking hard liquor, staring up at the ceiling, thinking about past relationships gone wrong... Past Cardigans albums have made me want to cuddle Nina as if she were some sort of adorable, sharp-toothed, clawing kitten... this album is different, though, and makes me want to marry her, or have long boozy conversations with her at least. Rather than shrugging off her heartache with an ironic wink, she instead seems to be taking herself and her music more seriously... with gorgeous
results.
The most mature Cardigan's release to date.......2004-05-22
This is the album Aimee Mann and Sheryl Crow wish they had released. Filled with better american pop songs than americans could write, the Cardigans have reached the arc of the careers. Not every song on this album is a gem, but their pop prowess is displayed marvelously on tracks such as "For What it's Worth" and "A Good Horse" among many others. This album will definetely creep up on you.
Feathers And Down.......2004-05-13
Like other Cardigan's albums, this one is a little hit and miss. There aren't any particularly bad tracks here, just not enough stand out A-tracks.
But having said that, the A-tracks are so incredible they may be worth the price of the CD by themselves. In particular "Feathers And Down" is so beautiful and tender I would have bought the CD on the strength of that track alone.
"Come to me let's drown - come baby let's drown in feathers and down..."
Other stand-out tracks "Communication" and "03.45: No Sleep".
Comparing this to earlier Cardigan's albums, it is a lot more "country" sounding - probably primarily due to the guitar work - there's an Eagles sound to the guitar here....
If you;re new to the Cardigans, "First Band On The Moon" might be a better first choice since it has the most "A-tracks". Come pick up this one when you need more Cardigans (and don't we all).
excellent simple excellent tracks.......2004-01-22
O.K THE CARDIGANS IN THIS ALBUM CALLED ``LONG GONE BEFORE DAYLIGHT`` THY ARE GREAT THEIR ACOUSTIC ROCK SOUND IS GREAT I'M IN LOVE WITH THE VOICE OF NINA SHE IS FENOMENAL

THE ONLY BAD SONG IS COULD'NT CARE LESS IS NOT A BAD SONG BUT IS LONG & A LITTLE BORRING............

Trying to figure out..........2005-04-28
why this album hasn't been given a wider release or any publicity. I bought it, stupidly, after reading a few positive reviews and articles about the band, and only after hearing two songs. Probably the music snob sheep in me attracted by the Nirvana comparisons and the fact that the album isn't available in really any record store I've found.
Supposedly, it hasn't been distributed in the US due to its "political content", but if that's true, then I'm curious as to what's so offensive, as this album is a lot less "political" than anything by, say, Anti-Flag or for that matter, Bruce Springsteen. Listing "The FBI / The CIA / The FDA / The NSA / Our HMOs / Our PPOs / The CEOs / And the USA" as they do in "I Owe", just as an example, hardly qualifies as political commentary.
The album itself has a few good, aggressive songs ("Bombs Below", "No New Jesus) and some aggressively cheesy, low IQ type stuff as well. For a reference point, I'd say this album is about as enjoyable as the recent albums by the Vines: a few songs that stick in your head, mostly filler that doesn't actually rock too hard, likely forgotten in a few weeks.
One of the Best Albums of the Past Few Years. FACT..........2005-03-26
i find it appalling that this album can't be purchased here in the U.S. shame on you dreamworks! definitely one of the best albums i have purchased in the last few years. in the immortal words of mr. ferris bueller: "it is so choice. if you have the means, i highly reccomend picking one up."
If you consider yourself a fan of Rock N Roll..........2004-07-20
You simply must... and I stress this... MUST OWN this album... The Living Things are quite simply the future of Rock N Roll... Put down that Nickelback Crap and pick UP some real badass Rock N Roll... The Brothers Berlin know how to rock and they do it well... as far as their sound think of them as The Stooges with Joe Strummer writing the lyrix instead of Iggy and with the swagger of early GN'R!!! This is The Future sooo pick it UP and revel in what real Rock N Roll sounds like!!!
