Slaughter & the Dogs first came to the Blank Generation's attention when they bagged the support slot to the Sex Pistols' legendary Manchester debut in July, 1976. They were named by combining album titles from Mick Ronson and David Bowie, covered Velvet Underground and New York Dolls material, and grew their hair back as soon as it seemed reasonably safe to do so. Consequently, their glam-angled three-chord plummets always seemed slightly contrived, yet the cartoon yob ludicrousness of Do It Dog Style is nothing short of irresistible. The Cult's Billy Duffy started his career in a later Slaughter lineup, and Morrissey auditioned for their perpetually up-for-grabs vocalist role, but ultimately all you really need to know about Slaughter is that their drummer was called Mad Muffet. --Ian Fortnam

this group rocks, i havent seen enyone else who likes slaugher and the dogs. there a great group who should of got farther like the buzzcocks (same country) another great group but i like slaugher more

When I listen to Slaughter & The Dogs it reminds me of some proto-punk bands like the New York Dolls, but when I hear them live they are on their own way, I mean, they sound as fast as they can. (For example, Live At The Roxy Club). Boston Babies has been covered by G.B.H. which is a humble tribute to them.
Great punk band with a few records to count on.

Although this album is excellent it doesn't tell you how much charisma this band had when they played live .This scribe saw them play alongside The Dammed and about 6 other punk bands in early '76 and even though they were raw and under-rehearsed they had something so special they stood out from the other bands that night [even eclipsing the excellent "Dammed".This album is essential listening for all punkers and has some great tracks on it. My only criticism would be that they should not have bothered doing "Waiting for my man" as I believe that the legendry "live "version of this song by "The Wasps" is now the definitive version and cannot be bettered. All in all a fine album from a band that should have been enourmously succesful.

if you never heard this album...mmm...bad, very bad. excelent cover of NYD (Mistery Girl) and this version of "Johnny T" destroy buildings, another punk band who covers the Velvet Underground classic "waiting for the man" (other bands who covers this song are UK Subs, Eater (the best version), Wasps) and of course the classic "Where Have All The Boot Boys Gone" are the high reasons to own this.

At a time when a thousand soundalike "punk" bands are selling lots of records -- excuse me, CDs -- to kids born after Sid Vicious and Darby Crash died, it's great to encounter reissues like this one. The early punk albums had a freshness the new stuff lacks.

Though this album doesn't have the sense of menace some punk bands (like the Sex Pistols) had, it makes up for it with an infectious sense of fun. This is punk rock, but it's also catchy and upbeat rock and roll. At the time, it probably seemed more like a natural progression from glam and pub rock than something revolutionary.

I've read about Slaughter and the Dogs quite a few times over the years, most recently in the reprint of Mark P's Sniffin' Glue fanzine, and I'm glad Captain Oi has put out this album.
