Album Description

The 1st Ska Supergroup!!: Justin Evil (Jeffries Fan Club, Longfellow) on the drums, Chris Evil (JFC, the Specials) on trombone, Derek Evil (JFC) bass, Jay Evil (The Scholars) on trumpet, Jonny Evil (Lone Raspberry) on the trombone and Aaron (Reel Big Fish) singing and playing guitar. The Forces of Evil were created to breathe new life into the Orange County ska scene. In January of 2001 when Jeffries Fan Club played their last show, many wondered what would happen to the Orange County ska scene. This is where Reel Big Fish vocalist Aaron Evil's plan came to fruition. "I like the old ska scene. I miss it and I want to bring it back," said Aaron. So armed with an idea, Aaron approached the Jeffries Fan Club drummer, bassist and trombone players at the show and asked if they wanted to play ska with him. The three said yes and the Forces of Evil were born. Once the Forces of Evil family was complete, they embarked on a mission to bring the same light, bouncy, horn-infused ska music that they had been playing for years to a new generation.

Before the release of a five-song EP in June of 2002, the band played numerous live shows and captivated audiences with songs like "Vague Love Song" and "My Life" as well as covers like Van Halen's "Dance the Night Away" and "Go to Hell" by Suburban Rhythm. These tasty gems are just a few of the offerings on their full-length release, Friend Or Foe.

With the full-length album, Friend Or Foe, due October 21, prepare for the Forces of Evil to invade a town near you.

5 out of 5 stars Great supergroup CD.......2007-03-20

This is one of the few "super group" ska bands out there, and it really behooves anyone out there who is a fan of ska to pick this disc up. It's one CD you can listen to straight through over and over again.
I have to say that, in general, this sounds like a "lost" Reel Big Fish album, i don't know if it's the production quality (which sounds a lot like a RBF album) or what. The other comparison that popped into my head was "Toasters meets RBF" (which doesn't really make sense since Toasters had nothing to do with this).

Sorry for the rambling review. This CD is excellent, ska fan or not, if you like well written songs that make you feel good even when things are against you, this is the CD to get.

5 out of 5 stars pick it up!.......2006-08-31

Wow! Awesome cd full of fun, catchy music that never slows down from start to finish. This is third-wave ska at its finest. If you are a ska fan, you probably already own this album. If not, get to a record store, or order this online. You won't regret it, I promise.

5 out of 5 stars Must Have Ska CD.......2005-06-25

This is THE must have ska cd. If you like ska, you must own this cd. Period. End of story. This cd is the best thing to happen to ska in a long while. Don't let it's lack of promotion fool you. It is very well done and worth every penny.

5 out of 5 stars Frigin' awsome BiEtCh!!!.......2005-06-16

This is one of the best third-wave ska bands ever if you dont get this cd you will be a loser and no one will be your friend, seriously before I got this cd I was a loser and when I got this cd I was still a loser but hey maybe you wont be!

5 out of 5 stars Solid Ska Band.......2005-05-01

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars former bassist for Voivod.......2006-02-28

this is great! get it! also, check out Eric Forrest's other band, Project: Failing Flesh- beautiful sickness. its also worth pickin up.

3 out of 5 stars Evil Forces by the band E-Force.......2005-09-19

"E-Force" is Eric Forrest's Voivod name. Everyone had a rock 'n' roll moniker in that band, though Forrest's wasn't used often at all while he was a member. Voivod fans will be pleased up to an extent with this record if they are fans of the era of the band which is defined by his tenure. Actually, if there were another member this record wouldn't work to the extent that it does, mostly because of the vocals. Forrest is an excellent singer for this kind of music, moreso in Voivod than E-Force because in the former he employed more of his range. But E-Force kind of sounds like Bolt Thrower as well because of the twin guitar rhythm work and the overabundance of double bass drums. The record is kind of chaotic and almost sounds sloppy although it isn't - it's just because it sounds like it's barely contained. Bottom line, this record is a good listen but won't blow you away. I'm not dissapointed that I purchased this album.

4 out of 5 stars Good,Fast,Loud,Heavy.....uhhhhhh METAL!!!.......2004-04-24

Yeah so I bought this for three reasons. 1.)Voivod's ex frontman is in the band 2.)It's thrash metal(it tells you this righ on the advertising sticker) and 3.)He has songs like Satanic Rituals. I don't think the other dude who reviewed this understands that Satan and metal just go together. So anyhow I threw this cd in my car cd player and cranked it waiting for some awesome metal....and I got it. It's just a good cd to have if you appreciate fast aggressive metal. I like this cd although its not Voivod:War and Pain or Kreator:Endless Pain, but very good none the less. I'm not going to analyize this cd I'm just going to tell you if you like heavy and aggressive thrash then pick it up guys and gals. I also recommend you get Celtic Frost,Onslaught,Death,Dark Angel,Kreator,Mercyful Fate...just a few bands for people who wants some excellent metal with no NU-Metal bullcrap attached! Up the Irons!!!! Hail Satan!!!

2 out of 5 stars I really wanted to like this, but alas..........2004-02-11

This is an interesting album-- after making two albums with Voivod, arguably the most innovative and progressive metal band ever, Eric Forrest makes this, one of the most derivative albums I've heard in a long time. If I hadn't known this came out a little while ago, I probably would have thought it came out sometime in the early 80's (ignoring the modern production). When I first heard about this, I was very put off my the naive song titles ("Satanic Rituals"? Give me a break!) and cover art, but thought I should give the former singer of Voivod the benefit of the doubt. I should have listened to my instincts, and saved some money in the process. There are some interesting touches here and there-- the last track is pretty good-- but basically it sounds like straight forward 80's thrash, almost entirely devoid of anything original or interesting. The drums never really get out of their repetitive rapid fire thrash mode, and the guitars just chug away on standard metal riffs, going nowhere in particular. It has a nice European feel to it, something like old Germanic thrash, but the most interesting moments are actually those that sound like they were lifted from Iron Maiden. It might have been fun to play, but I don't know, I would expect more from someone who played with the likes of Voivod. I thought Eric Forrest brought a harshness to that band that really worked, and he was involved in the making of a true masterpiece with them (Phobos), so this album leaves me a little mystified, and very disappointed. I guess this sort of disappointment is inevitable, when someone from one of your favorite bands branches out on their own you expect certain things from them. I just thought he would have learned more from his time in Voivod than this! And he's from Quebec, which seems to be the breeding ground for innovative metal! I don't get it. I keep listening to it, hoping there's something I'm missing, but I don't think so.

5 out of 5 stars ''someone has gone and sold out punk rock''.......2003-12-14

a lot of people don't like good clean fun because of their lack of seriousness, but, that's what i love about them. they pay homage in their own little way to side by side and gorilla biscuits which gets them plus points. if you're into hardcore pick this up. standout tracks: you're only punk once, 11th commandment, loserdotcom, and on the streets.

4 out of 5 stars Really does put the "ha" in Hardcore.......2002-10-25

Making fun of Straight Edge is a pretty easy (if unwarranted) thing to do, but Good Clean Fun manage to subvert the stereotype in a way that's not only inoffensive but damn funny too! Everything from the wry and surreal lyrics to the backup-crew vocals that sound like schoolkids just make you laugh at the whole hardcore punk stereotype - but laugh fondly! Veganism, religion, technology and (most of all) punk are parodied just enough to make hardcore fans laugh at themselves without being alientated. Favourites on this album are "I Can't Wait" ('2001, we call it quits the band'll be done...2004, to work, reunion tour!' - how many bands actually do this!), "Beat The Meat" and "You're Only Punk Once" (The shouted sidelines at the end of each line totally change the emphasis of the song). A funny, energetic album that's definitely worth buying - so go on then. Or aren't you harcore enough....?

5 out of 5 stars That's what is all about...some good clean fun!.......2001-11-01

first, this record rocks.second, this record is not gorilla biscuits replayed.third, this record gives HC its name in the year 2000.Wear your shorts on,push play on the CD player and start thrashing all round. You'll smile at the end and you'll remember why you fell in love with this music in the first place.

3 out of 5 stars Just Buy The First One.......2000-07-03

Very good, but not as good as WHO SHARES WINS. The lyrics are still pretty much the same, but songs, like the title song, come off a bit cheesy.
