That is always what I ask myself when shelling out hard earned $ when the "normal" CDs run $10-15.. Here's why

4. You Were There: I heard this track on ZTV (I think thats the name of the station) which is like Canada's progressive answer to MTV. I bought the album because of this one song that haunted me and had me watching this station out of canada way to late at night, hoping to hear it again. The line "you were the first song I ever sung..." kills me. Excellent song and song writing.
9. Words We Never Use: Along the lines of you were there, stong lyrics and haunting. Here you get an bare bones recording that was not used previously.
10. I Don't Like Mondays, just a fun song to sing along with on the way to work...
11. Before We Ever Met
15. Gold in Them Hills Caught myself singing this one yesterday and had to figure out who it was.

Rarities is a beautiful CD worth buying.......2003-09-20

Ron Sexsmith's latest CD is amazing. It consists of songs which did not make it to his 6 other CDs, and a few old favourites rerecorded. The 16 songs on this work of beauty demonstrate once again that Ron is an amazing lyrical poet and makes beautiful melodies. I've heard a few of these songs at Ron's concerts, and was wondering when they would appear on a CD...here they are.

Without an oar in sight........2005-07-27

This is my favorite of the Felt mini albums. It is the first release in the second half of Lawrence's 10 albums in ten years plan & marks the continuation of the discernable shift which began with the wonderful Forever Breathes The Lonely Word LP, released a year earlier in 1986. If you're buying the Felt re-issues, this EP is #6. Like the rest, it comes in a thin cardboard jacket with minimal artwork & no liner notes, & which usually include only a single B&W picture of Lawrence on the interior gatefold. As an overall effect, I like what they have done with the packaging, although I tend to prefer the uniformity of a standard Jewel case for releases which I collect.

This EP is full & very well fleshed out instrumentally. Every track features vocals, & has a nice flow in the overall narrative of the set. As a mini album it is exceptionally ordered & paced, with just the right amount of musical exploration to keep you seated & listening. Like the other late releases, the songs featured are a nice hybrid of those constructed around Lawrence's breathy lyrical hooks, & the droning hypnotic jams of the early Eps which have evolved to become the closing sections of only particular songs. It is of reasonable length at 26:05, but devoid of filler. The keyboard playing of Martin Duffy is again prominent, & his collaboration continues to enhance the focus & clarity of the Felt sound.

Throughout their history Felt released ten albums and ten singles. The first couple of these were released on the Cherry Red label - a compilation compiled from these records is available on that label as "Absolute Classic Masterpieces" (volume 1 if you'd like). After that the band moved on to the legendary Creation Records label, replacing their guitar player Maurice Deebank with keyboard player Martin Duffy (now in Primal Scream) and continued to sophisticate their sound resulting in the release of a couple of utterly classic albums and singles.

This Japanese only compilation is compiled from their output on that label and is a great overview for anybody who'd like to get a good overview of Felt's creation years or anybody who has the albums but would like to get their hands on some of the now hard to find single tracks.

this is actually ABSOLUTE CLASSIC MASTERPIECES VOLUME TWO.......2002-03-21

if you've never heard felt before, think pretty, clean guitar pop, some organ, and midrange, slightly monotone vocals that sound a lot like lou reed. the difference between this and the cherry red period is that these tracks, originally released on the now defunct creation label, are poppier and more upbeat. not to say that poppy = bad, because these are very good jangle pop songs.
yes, this cd is very, very expensive. is it worth it? well, that depends on how much you like felt, and how much you want to hear some songs from their creation singles and albums. disc one covers the singles...one problem: disc one is only about 23 minutes long. they should have at least included ALL of the singles tracks. most of them are here but a few are missing. on disc two we get a "best of" package from the lps. i'm a bit dissapointed that "all the people i like are those that are dead" and "down but not yet out" weren't included. no matter, all of the songs here are good ones, with the exception of the instrumental tracks, which technically aren't really felt anyway. not that they are terrible, but they are far from necessary. oh, in case you didn't know, most of the booklet is in japanese. unfortunately, all of felt's creation material is out of print. so, if you want to hear it and don't feel like hunting down the original vinyl-which is bound to be expensive as hell-get this. i would definitely not recommend this to felt neophytes. save this one for last and buy the four in print cds first.

Packed with value.......2000-09-14

Felt seems to have an unusual way of overlapping their offerings. This record is chock full of Felt non-hits. I say "non-hits" because saying "I will die, with my head in flames" is sort of... dramatic. The lyrics are somewhat tongue-in-cheek I would gather. But I always get a chuckle and the music always makes me tap my foot. There is so much music here. When I first bought a Felt release I thought "sheesh, this is sure expensive." But now I know that the hefty price is worth it... If you're into this sort of thing. If you like Belle & Sebastian... Just go buy it.

Alison Goldfrapp's vocal are like a warm blanket that springs from her heart and covers you, sometimes channeling SHIRLEY BASSEY with LAMB playing bass. Where PORTISHEAD is like being alone and cold in the rain and ideal for dealing with depression (no disrespect, i love them) GOLDFRAPP is a spring day.This CD doesn't bring the listener down @ all! The whole CD is brilliant in the sense, you can press play and after you finish the trip, you dont want to get off, as you yearn for more. This tapps in your body's endorphins and warms you.. This edition contains the 'Human 'single, which contains two remixes. Both of which are mixed beautifully. From start to finsh - BRILLIANT!!!! If you like bands like; PORTISHEAD, LAMB, HOOVERPHONIC, MOORCHEEBA and touch of BASSEY, @ least listen to the CD, you'll fall in love. Start with UTOPIA. I also recommend any remixes of UTOPIA, a perfect (5 stars song)!!!!!! Enjoy - your ears will thank you!!!!!!

Alive in Miami.......2004-10-11

This is a great recording from a much overlooked talent. I saw Deodato a year after this show when living in Venezuela. Unfortunately he didn't have the same line up as this album, but he still Rocked!. This cd shows Deodato at his best playing exciting tracks such as "skyscrapers" and "baubles, bells and bangles". Deodato's talent lies in his ability to blend Brazilian music with jazz and rock to make an exciting stew that sounds as good today as in the early seventies.
