It's perversely pleasurable in fragments: frenetic off-kilter new wave and edgy psychedelia mashed up with patches of free-form jazz, but the incessant yelping just makes your fillings itch, and there seems to be the desperate air of a band that's traveled so far along some bizarre tangent that the only thing left to do is keep ploughing on regardless.

i have a feeling saying this band doesn't know what it's doing is like all the jazz musicians who said ornette coleman didn't have a clue. well, he did. and they do. is it good? well, maybe. i don't think this really fits into the good/bad catagories, it's more reserved for the 'where the hell did this come from' section of the music pantheon. is troutmaskreplica good or bad? something like that. impossible to review. key word: ANGULAR.

don't expect a regular recording. expect the unexpected. then change your mind. extreme music ? i don't think so. same as the previous albums ? i don't think so. different to earlier recordings ? yes and no. it ain't celine dion. is it better ? up to you to decide. 15 tracks all different or all the same ? listen and enjoy or don't - your choice
