It's funny that you say you had a song spelled wrong, because so did I except it was a different song. mine was spelled "Bad Cops Bad Charaties".. anyways, I love this EP! does anyone know where I can get the extra songs Dan mentioned you could download from Stolen Transmission? They must've taken them down.

Most of the tracks are good, but when I purchased it, I saw the the song compliment each other like colors was spelled incorectly.
Not much of a difference, still a good cd!

I fell in love with this CD the first time I ever heard it. After this, I desperately waited for the follow up album, but low and behold it never came. Unfortunately, the band never got the audience it so rightly deserved, and they went their separate ways. Now I really like Dot Allison's solo work, but it just isn't One Dove.

If you ever get the chance to hear this CD, you must. It is such a wonderful blend of good beats with great atmosphere. It isn't run of the mill like all the "electronica" (oh how I hate that word) that was big at the time of this release, so it is a pleasant experience. I guess the closest comparison I could give to this CD is Lamb. If you like Lamb, I think you will definitely like this CD. A lost treasure!

Splendid.......2006-10-17

This album represents what came out of the British post-rave scene at its best. This is the only record that One Dove would make but what a record. It has been described as the perfect come-down record by everybody and I suppose it really is. In that sense it is very different from the acid music it is supposed to follow. It is almost the masterpiece that many pretend Screamadelica is. Dot Allison would go on to an interesting solo career but this record is splendid: the laid back playing really suits her smooth voice.

I first bought this CD when it first came out years ago, and I listened to it constantly. The music is spacey but not weird, it packs a punch, and Dot Allison's voice is heavenly. During one of my many moves, this disc went missing and I've hunted high and low for it in record shops everywhere. Don't bother with itunes or MSN music, you can probably only find it used online, but it is well worth hunting down. It can function as sex music, nap music or background mood music.

One of my favourite albums of all time. Unbeleivable that this was as overlooked as it was. It's over 10 years old, and still sounds unique and fresh -shame they split up before releasing another album. As much as I like Dots solo releases, they just haven't yet reached (IMHO) up to this seminal piece of work.

Brooding, Eerie, Stylish, Autumnal Electronica................2003-10-30

Thanks to a Recommendation from a friend, this sparkling album is an gradually unfolding emotional envelope of blissful Electronica/Alternative Dance/Ballads & slight Dub. Heartfelt singer `Dot Alison' is the shining vocalist in this inspired collection of Shimmering World music influences "(The Transient) Truth", epic guitar noise "White Love (Guitar Paradise Mix)", and melancholic piano ballads "White love (Piano Reprise)", all sonically linked by a rich production, and an approach to each song, by starting most tracks with percussion instrumentals, and gradually & slowly building and texturing the sound with swathes of sonic colour, until progressing into fully fledged full blown songs of epic structure. But unfortunately the band were to split before recording a follow-up (with producer `Andy Weatherall' pursuing a lucrative producer career, and singer `Dot Alison', releasing a solo album in 1998), so this is your only chance to discover what could have possibly been a defining act of the 90's. and for those that enjoy this album should consider buying singer 'Dot Alison's' solo album.

Two Great Albums..BUT.......2007-03-16

I don't know maybe it's just me but..I think they should have coupled "You Know Who You Are" with "City Nights" instead of "Frequency" just because..you put the first 2 albums together instead of the 2 & 3rd..makes more sense to me which is the only reason why I give it 4 stars. Still though..it's good to see "Frequency" on CD anyway since "City Nights" is already available (Remastered). NOW..how about putting "You Know Who You Are" out on CD!!!!

money marks first solo record is filled with quick little 70's inspired nuggets... you can definately hear what the beastie boys did when they hired him to produce their cd... this raw record comes at you quick, and when your done you left thinkin... "was that ingenious or was that toooo easy?" moey mark makes very simple music in a way thats so infectious it can only be labeled as a guilty pleasure... those who bought his first record on brushfire and are lookin for the same will be dissapointed, untill you realize that this is just as good, but in a completely different way...

When he's not the fourth Beastie Boy, Mark Ramos Nishita creates some wicked solo music as Money Mark -- lo-fi, funky, fuzzy, and entrancingly spacey. How to describe it? A colorful, twisted rollercoaster ride through a Hammond organ and Moog, as Money Mark explores every experimental nook and cranny.

It opens with the slow-grinding, chunky "Pretty Pain," before lifting off to mixtures of soul-jazz and funk, done against a blippy backdrop of thick, dense organ and blippy keyboard. Most of the songs are two-ish minutes or under, but somehow that seems just right -- if they were any longer, they would seem stretched out.

And Money Mark also augments the music with jam sessions, bells, thick distortion over droned vocals, lessons on entomology, and sputtering electric organ. It's impossible to describe every facet of Money Mark's sound; it's far too complex, but that complexity never bogs it down. It trips merrily in its colorful trappings, rarely slowing down.

Few albums really mesmerize, never boring listeners with a single song. Thankfully, Money Mark achieved that in "Mark's Keyboard Repair" -- not one song, be it pretty or gritty, gets dull. There's a feeling of delighted anticipation throughout the album -- what will he pull out of his hat next? Acid jazz, or funky electronica? Distortion or organ? Sparkles or sputters?

Since all these songs were originally released as a series of EPs, there really isn't any internal flow. But it feels like there is. There's nothing to link the songs directly, but Money Mark's distinct musical style and unique electro-jazz sound seems to band them together.

Nishita's vocals feature in quite a few songs, but aren't the centerpiece of those songs. Instead, he uses his flat intonations like another instrument, blending them perfectly with his expert use of electric organ and moog, mixed in with basic acoustic jazz. Best of all, he both layers the two sounds over one another, then alternates them -- it never gets dull or simplistic.

Money Mark created a truly unique collection with "Mark's Keyboard Repair." A heady mix of electronica, jazz, funk and experimental twiddles, this is a minor masterpiece.

Flava-filled, funky, delightfully old-skool............2003-08-28

One of my favorite CD's in my collection!!! The vibe of this album has a very analog, organic, old-skool (for want of a better term), and sometimes mellow feel, it's just the disc to listen to with your mahogany console stereo (if you've got the rare UK vinyl pressing of this album) in your den with the red shag carpet & knotty pine paneling, with the naugahyde chairs, lava lamp, and sunburst clock!! :)

My favorite track on the album has to be "Pinto's New Car", with a lot of flavaful groove that leaves plenty left over for the rest of songs on the album.

I also read somewhere that Money Mark recorded these songs long before he met the Beasties when they were recording Paul's Boutique in '89 (and became the 4th beastie boy soon after) to fix a entry gate to their driveway at the mansion that the B-Boys were recording at in Silverlake in LA (Mark is a carpenter by trade as well), so I'm assuming some of these songs on this album are probably around 15-20 years old! All the better... :-)

All of these songs were independently released by Mark on a series of EPs on his own Pinto Records label a while before this album came out, which is a re-issue of these EPs all combined together.

Once again, this is a disc I *highly* recommend...

good girl band.......2005-10-25

I loved the spice girls in the 90's but they were for the masses. All Saints appealed more to the r&b/hip hop fans and they were successful for a minute. I Know Where It's At was a hip hop/pop song that had the janet jackson sound to it, but with a british vibe to it. Never Ever was a beautiful, beautiful ballad that was on heavy rotation and who can forget the remakes of under the bridge from the peppers and the labelle remake of voulez vous couchez avec moi ces't soir. I hope shanzay does a solo career cause she wrote most of the lyrics and music on this album and it would be nice if she made a solo comeback cause the group broke up and it doesn't look like they're getting back together

Worth checking out.......2004-07-08

I bought this CD a 5 years ago because I loved "Never Ever". I listened to it off and on, but this year I put it back in my CD player and was surprised to see how well it has held up over the years. "Never Ever" still sounds good, but the other songs sound better than I remember them. Their covers of "Under the Bridge" and "Lady Marmalade" are surprisingly good, and most of the other songs are strong as well.

The Spice Girls comparisons are inevitable, but All Saints stand alone, even though they were never as huge as the Spice Girls in the US.

I recommend checking this album out. It is a good blend of pop and R&B, and it should have been a bigger hit in the US.

A Fairly Solid Debut From A Short-Lived Rival Band.......2004-06-22

In the 1990's the Spice Girls were the No.1 female girl group. They dominated the charts all over the world for three years and became iconic superstars in the process. Naturally, you always get imitators who come along and try to repeat the success of the original and best - but never quite succeed. A British girl band called the All Saints nearly achieved this in 1998 with their self-titled debut album. The Spice Girls were compared to the Beatles in terms of worldwide appeal and a level of insane mania that hadn't been seen in decades. Then the All Saints came along to rival them, almost in a way that the Rolling Stones did for the Beatles. So these two girl groups were symbolic of two 'boy' groups that ruled the 1960's.

Bands like the Spice Girls and the All Saints are big reasons why the 1990's will always be my favourite decade for music. In England the All Saints released their debut album at the back end of 1997 and it went on to sell almost 2 million. Their debut single had just gone Top 5 and they were gearing up for the release of their second single which would go on to become one of the most popular break-up songs of the decade. They were seen as a cooler, more hip version of the Spice Girls. They were older, wiser, more mature, and their music had a certain artistry to it that the Spicies never possessed. Infact, in Britain, for a short while in early 1998 it seemed like a backlash against the Spicies was setting in whilst everyone favoured the All Saints...

The debut album from the All Saints opens with that infamous classic ballad "Never Ever." It opens the album in fine style, and clocks in at six and half minutes of pure vocal bliss. The song made it to No.1 after months on the chart and spent something like seven months in the Top 40, selling more than 1 million copies. Shaznay Lewis wrote the song and her true talent is revealed here. "Bootie Call" was the fourth single to released from the album and became the girls' third consecutive No.1 UK single. This is as raunchy as the girls ever got, and it quite indeed. Simmering beats bubble over the saucy lyrics and deep vocals to make a hot and sweaty R'n'B/pop hybrid classic. "I Know Where It's At" is where it all began. The debut single from the girls, this is a very catchy slice of pop perfection that made them a hit. "Under The Bridge" was the girls' third single and a cover of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' original. It's no way as good obviously, but I like the funky R'n'B edge that is brought to it. It was the third single to be taken from the album and went straight to No.1 - the video is bad though, gives me vertigo!

"Heaven" opens mysteriously before breaking it down with a hip bass. This is a mid-tempo number that doesn't quite get off the ground, but it's very mature and was very fresh at the time of its production. "Alone" begins off well with a stop-start beat and the chorus makes this even funkier. The beat is very catchy and the chorus is sung in a very stylish and cool way. "If You Want To Party (I Found Lovin')" is a song that follows a similar style to the girls' debut single with a great party vibe and cheesy pop synth! You hear people cheering in the back like it's in a club - very typical of the time it was made. "Trapped" and "Beg" are purely filled to keep the album afloat, but they are the real downers on an otherwise class album

"Lady Marmalade ('98 Remix)" is the second of two cover versions on this album and was released as a Double A-Side along with Under The Bridge in May 1998. Of course, the song went to No.1 as I said before. The girls make this version very poppy and funky - one to definitely get your groove on to. Having said that, the version that Christina Aguilera and co. did three years later is much better! "Take The Key" is another filler and rather disappointing, but is redeemed with the smashing and beautiful ballad "War Of Nerves." Shaznay claimed she wrote this song around the time of Princess Diana's death in August 1997. This was the fifth and final single to be taken from the album and made the Top 10 in the UK. I love the video and this is an overall great song to unwind to, and a fantastic closer to the album.

OVERALL GRADE: 7/10

The All Saints were a very photogenic girl group. Melanie Blatt was often considered the sexiest, whilst the sisters Natalie and Nicole Appleton just stood there and look pretty. Because of this, Shaznay was often the least popular member of the group when in reality she was the driving force behind them! She wrote those awesome lyrics, and had the best voice. It was obvious that with inflated egos and a battle between talent that the girls would split up, and they did in early 2001 just a few months after the release of their sophomore album "Saints And Sinners." Their success was short lived as a group, but the All Saints will definitely be one of the most remembered bands of their generation.

Very good debut!.......2003-07-05

I have always thought of the All Saints as the RnB version of the Spice Girls - they wore trainers instead of platforms and wore tracksuits and hoodies instead of midriff tops and mini skirts. But they were just as good (coming from a Spice Girls fan), with a fantastic debut album. My rundown:

1. Never Ever
This version of the song is soooo long! But it's good for a debut single, and I love the piano in it. Good chorus too. 4/5
2. Bootie Call
I love this song! It has such a cute name! Lol, apart from that, this song has cool music and I love Mel's vocals. 5/5
3. I Know Where It's At
I never really liked this song, although it is quite cool. I like Shaz and Mel's voices. 3/5
4. Alone
This has cool vocals from Nat and Nic, with a cute chorus. 4/5
5. Under the Bridge
I love this! It's a cover of the Red Hot Chili Peppers track, and it's fantastic! I just LOVE the guitar opening (and closing), and Mel sounds brill on the first verse. Nic (or is it Nat?) sounds good on the second verse and Shaz steals the show at the end. The best on the CD. 5,000,000/5
6. Heaven
This is very soft sounding and chilled out, with a great chorus and complicated lyrics, which I don't understand. But it's good. 5/5
7. If You Want to Party (I Found Lovin')
I don't like this song very much - party songs don't appeal to me a lot, but it does have cool music. 3/5
8. Trapped
This is such a cool song!! It has cool music and I love the funny lyrics - "she looks in the mirror and sees someone old" - very cool. 5/5
9. Beg
This is very funny - the girls are making a friend who betrayed them beg. I love the sentence at the end of the song - "today's letter was B and the word was Beg" like in Sesame Street. Very cool. 5/5
10. Lady Marmalade
This is a 1990's version of Christina A, Lil Kim, Mya and Pink's version except with All Saints singing on it. Naughty lyrics but great vocals. 5/5
11. Take the Key
I don't like this song very much. It's too chilled out for me. 2/5
12. War of Nerves
This song pulls on your heartstrings, with GREAT music and vocals from Shaz and Mel. 5/5

The culmination of Orbital's "rave" phase.......2007-06-17

This album is my personal favorite by Orbital, if only because it was still heavily infuenced by their live performances and constant touring in the vibrant rave scene of the early 90's. This is dance music for smart people. There are stomping rave anthems and goofy sonic experimentation. It holds up well after more than 10 years, and that's pretty unusual for a techno band. Some say that Orbital got even better after this one, but I personally think this was the last truly good album that they made.

Not a masterpiece, but contains two great singles........2006-08-29

I can't think of a techno album more over-rated than Orbital 2. It appears in every overview of electronic music. I've never seen a bad review of it. It's supposed to be an all-time classic. But for me, it's a little hard to sit through.

Let's start with the first and last tracks. They don't contain any music. Both of them are short vignettes in which a vocal sample repeats one brief phrase. At the same time, the same sample is repeated at a different speed in the background, so the two voices go out of sync with each other and then line up again.

I'm not sure what this is supposed to mean. Maybe such an idea might suddenly occur to you if you're sitting in a studio with a lot of cool equipment. Or maybe there's a deeper meaning. But I personally find it tedious to listen to. Especially the second time around. I can stand the first track, but the last one just repeats the same idea. Both of these tracks are pretty short. But still, taken together, that's four minutes that could safely be removed from the album without really changing its musical content at all.

So that leaves eight tracks that actually contain music. And some of those are pretty tedious too. Worst of all is a track called "Impact (The Earth Is Burning)" that goes on for over ten minutes. In this time, the band plays one light-funk riff on a keyboard. First the rhythm goes on for a while, then there's a break in the drums and the keyboards come on, and then the drums come back and play together with the keyboards. About halfway through, Orbital try to create some kind of forward movement. So, they sample a brass instrument and play one long note on it. One note, that's it. And then they add a ridiculous sample of a guy yelling, "It's...it's like a cry for survival! For their...survival! And for our...survival! Survival for them and for us!" This is hilarious, because the underlying music has no dramatic power. If anything, it sounds lazy and relaxed.

"Walk Now..." is similar. It starts with a low grinding noise, like a factory in a science-fiction film, and then repeats one phrase on some synthesizers that sound very much off-key. It goes back and forth between these two sounds for seven minutes.

Orbital use the same compositional approach for all of these tracks. They add new layers one at a time, very slowly and deliberately. You can see this in "Monday." First they start the piano loop and wait a while, then they add some drums and wait a while, then they build up the drums a little and wait some more, and so on. The piece builds up to a very pretty, clean melody, then there's a break back to the piano loop, and the song builds back up in almost the same way. This method favours songs that have good melodies and a lot of detail, like "Monday." Sometimes the repetition is effective, like when it's applied to the keyboard line in "Remind." But some tracks on the album don't have that much substance, and they just seem to go on forever.

So that's why I think this album is over-rated and difficult to listen to from beginning to end. But why has it received such acclaim? I think that its reputation rests mostly on the strength of two singles.

In spite of all the bad things I said about this album, there's one obvious fact: "Lush 3-1" is the best single of the nineties. It's not the main keyboard line that carries it, but the opening. The song begins with a triumphant arrangement of short, very fast major-key synthesizer chords. This sound serves as the foundation of the song, and remains in the background until the end. The beat doesn't even appear until a minute or so into the track, and then takes another minute to build up. The opening is protracted in this way to build tension and make the listener anticipate the beat more. It creates a feeling of crazed, intense joy. Actually that was one feeling that Orbital could evoke better than any other techno band.

The other single, and Orbital's most famous work, is "Halcyon + On + On." Here, too, Orbital create a sense of glazed-eyed happiness by manipulating a sample of some airy female vocals. The vocals themselves are not of particularly high quality, but Orbital cut them up, run them backwards, layer them on top of each other, add echo, and so on. The words become indistinguishable, and the song babbles rhythmically in many copies of the same voice. Variations in the echo make the voice sound alternately close and distant. It is a beautiful sound, and the band contributes a strong club beat. Like in "Lush 3-1," the opening is prolonged to magnify the effect of the main melody when it comes in.

The only complaint I have is that this isn't the best version of the song. That would be Orbital's live version, which adds other vocal samples from different songs, plays them against each other, and finally cuts them up in the same way. In that interpretation, the song becomes as maniacally joyful as "Lush 3-1." One recording of this version is available on some pressings of Orbital's later album In Sides.

Aside from these two high points, there's also one very good album track ("Monday") and a couple of others that are at least very listenable ("Planet Of The Shapes," "Remind"). So it's not a bad album, but in my opinion, not a timeless classic either. If you want an album with many good songs, Orbital's own Blue Album is more consistent, although it doesn't have any such perfect singles.

Modern Masterpiece.......2006-05-04

Typicaly im quite harsh on Albums and very very rarely refer to them as masterpieces, especially music from the modern era, but Orbital have greated just that, A masterpiece.
The Brothers from Londons' second offering (thus the name orbital 2) is an epic musical journey consisting of Large electro beats intertwined with melodic textures and some down right disturbing samples.
This album is definatly 10 years ahead of its time. Being released in 1991 is something that is even more remarkable. Considering the technology available at the time, the production and origionality of composition help to make this album one for the ages.
Worth every penny.

Absolutely essential electronica album.......2005-12-29

This album is so good it's ridiculous. Every song is crafted to perfection with either very interesting musicianship, catchy melodies, or both. The only complaints I could give are the first and last tracks (which aren't really songs) are kind of annoying. If you were to like one electronica album this would probably be it. Every song is good here, but the hit "Halcyon + On + On" is alone worth the purchase of this album (it's EXTREMELY emotional). If you don't like this album then you can't truly like electronica music. A must own.

The DJ must've been lacking filler on the CD to include the rather monotonous first 3 traks. Sure you get into the vibe as you clik through the traks, but musically, it takes Orbital a long time to morph into progressive takes in the songs. It's like a pounding headache- you can hear the thumps, but can't figure out if it's your head or the track.

Take an aspirin and get some other CD, maybe even a compilation which seems the best route for the genre. At least there are more hits and good traks in a comp and if you find you like certain people, then go after them specifically.

Orbital 2 is one of those disks you should play while in the car with the windows rolled up. People think you are listening to something def from the beat, but you'll know different

I have followed Goldie for quite some time. Drangonfly and Mother MAKE this 2 disc set worth your while. It is the last of this particular phase of Goldie. More rythmically complex than his first one, Goldie put his heart into this. David Bowie lends his voice to Mother and Drangonfly is a trip hop wonder. Excellent spin!

This is an album which has everything - Mellow, floaty tunes, such as dragonfly/believe, aggressive up-tempo beats such as Temper Temper/Chico, and emotional, powerful pieces such as Mother/Letter of fate. Fans of any musical genre should find at least one track to suit them. Personnaly, I prefer this album than the hugely hiped 'Timeless', which is also an excellent album, but lacks some of the emense variety that 'Saturn' has to offer. The album may have floped in the sales charts, but I praise the day it became a part of my music collection! Goldie - you rule!!!!!

Good, but not as good as "Timeless".......1999-08-18

This is the third Goldie album that I have purchased and while it is not as good as "Timeless" (few CDs are) it is still pretty amazing. This two CD set has everything: Jazz, R&B, hip-hop, and even more experimental classical-like arrangements contained on the first CD. The bass beats are the key to Goldie's music and the ones on this CD are super-groovy. He's at his best when he combines his Drum n' Bass style with some very catchy R&B melodies. The results are truly astounding.

Nulla da dire contro Goldie. Sicuramente. Non è da tutti fondere musica classica con la Jungle più cattiva(mother)per rendere noto agli altri i propri sentimenti vissuti durante l'infanzia, la crescita, e la consapevolezza da adulto. Non è da tutti fondere RnB con quasi un ritmo Elettro(believe), l'Hip-Hop con la Jungle(Digital), e poi ancora altre contaminazioni con Ambient,rock ecc. Ok è vero si è ispirato a Grooverider ma non li si può togliere nulla. Ha reinventato la Jungle, o meglio la Drum&Bass, con Timeless e anche ora è capace di rifarlo. Mette a nudo le sue Emozioni, devi solo essere pronto a coglierle: un calice di acqua fresca (believe); rabbia pura (temper temper, demonz); solitudine, frustazione e rinascita (Mother); il viaggio (dragonfly) e chissa quant'altro. Grande Album, difficile da capire, ma bisogna essere pronti a farlo!!

This release is brilliant, not better than his earlier Timeless-masterpiece but still a very good album. Listen this with the volume really loud and you'll know what I'm talking about.... (use a headphone for best results :)
