Gate to the Mind's Eye

The accompanying video (titled "The Gate") may be the greatest thing since Fantasia, but this one-dimensional by-product is less mind-blowing than mind-numbing. Armageddon is a poor KLF rip-off, the instrumental tracks meander woefully and songs like "N.E.O." and "Quantum Mechanic" are hollow echoes of Dolby's peak work a decade back on The Flat Earth. Ear Pleasing Journey.......2007-07-02
Wow, this is an incredible journey through many different styles of music. Thomas Dolby doesn't disappoint, from the almost primordial sounds, to more modern swing-funk. It also includes a soothingly beautiful love song. This cd offers something for everyone. It has a very cathartic, ending also. The movie is just as good and they go beautifully together or as a separate entity. A must for anyone's collection.
I cant find the dvd... but the music is all I need!.......2005-07-11
I got the cd for free because my dad drinks pepsi.he "bought" it off I tunes and burned it onto a cd for me, thus a b-day present.I really enjoy this cd now. I was surprised that he dosent sing very much in it ( nuvouge is a singer)and i find the beats easy to find and very helpful if you are strugling through Strings class.I really enjoy it now, and like most of his music, I can go to sleep to it.( look at my about me section!)
I have a word for soundtrack haters..........2004-05-04
Okay. Let's start this off at the beginning. When I was in 3rd grade, I was fascinated with the original "The Mind's Eye" movie. So, naturally, when I figured out there was another, I begged my mom to let me rent it. That is when I fell in love with the music. It was excellent. It enthralled me like no music ever had. I found it to be imaginative, creative, and very pleasing. I wish to address the author of the "This is a "Soudtrack", not a Thomas Dolby album proper..., September 28, 2003" review.
I disagree with everything you said in your review. You are entitled to your opinion, but I strongly disagree. This is a spectacular piece of work. Also, I strongly suggest actually seeing the movie before you dis the soundtrack.
This is a "Soudtrack", not a Thomas Dolby album proper..........2003-09-29
I have confess to have never seen the accompanying video to this, partially because I found the "soundtrack" to be a bit disappointing. Aside from the couple of exclusive Dolby vocal tracks "Nuvogue" and the wonderful "Valley of the Mind's Eye" there is little to get excited about. Uninspiring instrumentals and even more uninspiring tracks with a guest female vocalist are about as packaged and predictable as a McDonald's Happy Meal. This coming from an artist who has produced a relatively brief, but otherwise execellent body of work, is surprising considering his (assumingly) penchant for perfection.
Thomas Dolby in top form.......2001-01-23
The Gate to the Mind's Eye was put together from various computer generated animations. However, the glue that holds these pieces together is Thomas Dolby Robertson's incredible score. Some of his best works can be found here, from the haunting "Voyage of the Mind's Eye" and "N.E.O.," to the techno-ish "Big Bang Backwards" and "Quantum Mechanic," to the wild ride of "Nuvogue." One wonders if the music was matched to the animation or vice-versa: it's that good of a fit. Worth getting for the soundtrack alone.
