About the Artist
Shok Paris were one of Cleveland's most popular 80s underground Cleveland heavy metal bands. Their first recorded appearance was on the 1983 "Cleveland Metal" complilation album, contributing the song "Go Down Fighting". The band released their debut album, "Go For The Throat", in 1984 on Auburn Records. This was the Cleveland independent label's (Breaker, Destructor, Black Death, Purgatory, etc.) very first release. The band went on to release two more albums through MCA's I.R.S./Auburn Records joint partnership, "Steel And Starlight" (1987) and "Concrete Killers" (1989), were featured in the sci-fi movie "The Hidden" and toured nationally with Savatage and Lizzy Borden before disbanding in early 1990. Shok Paris reunited in the summer of 2004 to perform at two festivals, Germany's "Bang Your Head Festival" and BW&BK's "6-Pack Weekend" in Cleveland. Shok Paris lead vocalist Vic Hix now fronts the band AFTERSHOK, who just released their "Burning Chrome" album on Auburn in January of 2005.

Excellent Pie for the price.......2007-01-09
Two great Marriott albums at a great price. Had these on vinyl when they came out 20+ years ago. If you are a Pie fan, these are a must for your collection !
Classic piece of Pie.......2005-07-06
I keep asking myself how many times did I almost spend the $50 and buy a second hand copy of the original pressing of On To Victory? When someone gave me the heads-up that not only was this CD going to be reissued, but bundled with Go For The Throat, and priced below $15 . . . well, let's just say I was pretty darn happy. Humble Pie made some great music during this era (early 80's). The band had lots of ideas, energy, and talent. I saw them at least 3 times during various tours to support these releases and I am THRILLED to finally have both of them on CD. If you love Humble Pie and Steve Marriott (not to mention Bobby Tench on guitar and vocals, journeyman drummer Jerry Shirley, and "Booty" Jones holding down the back beat), then throw down a few fins and get this release. You'll love it.
Technical note: This seems to be a straight release rather than remastered. Given how many older recording remasters end up sounding overly echoed or compressed, I'd say good choice.

Reissue with TONS of bonus tracks.......2006-09-28
It's hard to categorize a band like Shok Paris. I mean, they're obviously a metal band, but that could mean just about anything. To my ears, the band's sound treads a line between straight-up American power metal of Omen, Warlord, etc. and the more melodic metal acts like Fifth Angel and Leatherwolf. They have an aggressive, hard charging, WASP meets Lizzy Borden kind of style.
1983's Go for the Throat was the band's debut album, and while I wouldn't call it a must-have album, it is certainly one that 80's metal die-hards will want to add to their collections.
The 2005 reissue of Go for the Throat features remastered sound and a whopping 9 bonus tracks, including a live version of the Deep Purple classic Highway Star.

Customer Reviews:
Moravian songs, via Janacek, Godar, Bittova and Skampa.......2006-05-09
This is a unique recording of Janacek's transcriptions of Moravian folk songs. Originally for piano and voice, they have been transcribed by Slovak composer Vladimir Godar for string quartet and (occasionally) three-voice male chorus. Here they are performed by renowned Czech singer and violinist Iva Bittova, accompanied by the Skampa Quartet and chorus. The effect is not so much of classical liede, but of authentic eastern European "popular" songs - the sonority of the string quartet adds to this in no small part. Janacek would be proud.
Skampa Quartet is great - the singer... yikes.......2005-07-28
I honestly did not know what I was getting myself into when I bought this CD. I love Janacek, I love folk songs... how could I go wrong? Iva Bittova! I was concerned that she would have a 50yr old woobly voice, but instead what exists is a thin VERY nasal tone... perhaps she should be singing traditional Bulgarian music! The voice is expressive, just ugly.
The recording quality is not very good, either. On many of the tracks, Iva seems to be muffled and in the background of the recording.
Really - dont waste your time and money, unless you really would just like to have a recording of over 50 Janacek songs.

Album Description
Ed Littman's Splatt is a unique combination of highly talented improvisers that have truly found a musically spiritual telepathy. Splatt presents compositions by both Littman, & bassist Danny Zanker. Collaboration from John Bollinger on drums will truly explode the senses. The flow & the build of improvisation along with well thought out & soulful compositions leads the music to be eclectic & exciting. It's a mind & toe tapping experience that audiences have raved about.
Customer Reviews:
Creative Bold.......2004-01-23
Ed Littman is an original musician. The compositions, and ideas expressed here highlight that. One of the hardest things for an artist to do these days, especially on guitar is to have an easily defineable sound and identity.
And Ed accomplishes that with this album
I've seen the group several times, and there is a coherent artistic fresh sound happening.
Interesting for the listener and fellow player.
I Love It When You SPLATT Me Like That!.......2001-12-21
Are you up for the challenge?
Are you ready to expand your musical mind for an hour or so?
If the answers are YES, then pick up this SPLATT disc and get ready to dig into some seriously cool music.
The compositions on this album are wonderfully non-traditional & the performances are made of high-test virtuosity.
Ed Littman is an avant-garde jazz monster with raw rock sensibilities. This reviewer anxiously awaits the January 2002 debut release of Littman's side project, the modern masters of Monk- BRILLIANT CORONERS. Littman masterfully twists his quirky Splattasmic melodies around in his mind, and spits them back out at the listener in an amazing aural assault of musical genre-bending euphoria. Zanker and Bollinger are more than side-men, as they create sonic landscape backdrops that are as musically gratifying as Littman's soaring solos. Zanker is lyrical, unpredictable, and funky on the bass. Bollinger is not a drummer- he is an amazing, well-rounded musician who happens to express himself on the drums. Ed Littman's Splatt teeters on the edge of creative insanity, but makes sure not fall over the fence onto the side of over-indulgence. This is not easy listening, CD 101.9 fuzak (stuff). This is REAL: improvisation-based, mind expansive esoterica, played from the inner depths of the creative mind and soul. SPLATT is ALL that. Do your musical id a favor, and indulge!

Giving the best that he had to give.......2007-05-20
It's been 16 years since the tragic passing of Steve Marriott (April 10th, 1991). He followed the two-album rebirth of Humble Pie ("Go For The Throat" was the second album) with bar-band appearances with "Packet of Three," and then...proof that life is what happens when you're making other plans...an attempted reunion with Peter Frampton and Humble Pie. The two tracks that came out of those sessions, "The Bigger They Come" and "I Won't Let You Down," made one thing perfectly clear: Steve's fortunes went up and down in his lifetime, but he never lost his gift. 1981's "Go For The Throat"...recorded with original Pie alumnus Jerry Shirley on drums, Jeff Beck Group alumnus Bobby Tench on vocals and keyboards, and bassist Anthony "Sooty" Jones...certainly isn't the "greatest Humble Pie album of all time." But it's Steve Marriott, ragged voice and all, and he puts out mightily here. From the psycho nod to Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley, "Driver" ("I don't give a monkey's, I don't give a LOOK OUT...") to the cover of his own Small Faces hit "Tin Soldier" to the John Lennon tribute "Teenage Anxiety" that's EVERY...SINGLE...BIT as poignant as Elton John & Bernie Taupin's "Empty Garden"...and perhaps more so ("They shot my hero in the street, and as I sing the world still weeps"), fans of Steve Marriott shouldn't pass this one by. Rock On, Steve, Rock On. You are missed.
Humble Pie's Swan Song.......2003-10-18
12 years after releasing their first two groundbreaking psycadelic-rock albums on the Immediate label, and after going through a lot of musical diversities, shifting from psycadelia to blues to soul - and all with the rock and roll - Humble Pie released their last output.
Keep in mind that this is their 3rd lineup, and just 2 of the 4 members on 1969 are here in the 81' Pie.
The album itseld is a high-energy solid classic hard-rock effort, but it lacks the experimentallity that Humble Pie has showed in the past.
The album starts hard with a heavy cover of the old Elvis classic, "All Shook Up", followed by the bluesy ballad "Teenage Anxiety". The next song is a suprise re-make of "Tin Soldier", a hit for Marriott's pre-Pie band, "The Small Faces", in the rockin' spirit of this album. The next tune, "Keep It On The Island", is a mid-tempo boogie that cool things off a bit, and features backing-vocal harmonies that the Pie was famous for. The next song starts just like the Joe Perry Project's "South Station Blues", but soon enough explodes to a blues-rock extravaganza. "Restless Blood" and the following title song are another by-the-book boogies, whole "Lottie The Charcoal Queen offers offers a more familliar ground, and sounds like something that could easily be from Eat It. The album ends with an interesting cover of the Supa-penned Aerosmith tune "Chip Away The Stone"
In conclution, this album offers a hard rock-boogie from the late days of one of Rock's most underrated bands, Humble Pie. Sure, Steve Marriott's vocals are no way near what it used to be, and the musical diversity in this album is nothing like what they used to, but its still a good, solid effort that comes to remind us what a great band The Pie once was.
high energy rock and roll.......1999-04-03
This is one of my favorite albums,it's high energy recording with Steve Marriott's soulful singing and his underrated guitar playing at it's best along with the powerful drumming of Jerry Shirley and the fine musicianship of Bobby Tench and Anthony "sooty" Jones, like the album notes say "This album should be played at high volume"

The Wise One is Pleased.......2007-04-08
oh man! This is such a great little hardcore cd, oh man. I gotta sing praises cause this excites me in a way you will never know. It seems like I'm one of the only people outside of Philly who likes this cd. I gotta say I love Philly/Penn. hardcore, such a great scene man. Knives Out, Shark Attack, I Hate You, Ink and Dagger, McRad, Kid Dynamite (of course)... it just goes on and on. So dig this, hardcore like ma used to make it, short songs sing-a-longs and just melodic as hell, something I wish I could have been a part of. Buy this highly recommended by such an awesome person, me of course.
The best punk band ever!.......2004-11-20
Stop listening to wussy wanna-be punk bands like Anti-Flag and NOFX who don't even care about music and listen to some true, sheer, solid hardcore punk rock like Go! For the Throat. The CD is only 22 minutes long, with 24 tracks. Yes, that's right...probably the shortest CD you've heard but who cares when the music is so great? Each track is under 3 minutes, some under ten seconds, but they are so fun to listen to. You'll be on your feet jumping around as soon as you pop this CD in your boombox. It's insane intensity at lightspeed. They never surrender. They really let their voice be heard. All the words that describe G!FTT include crazy, hyper, tense, ferocious, angry, riveting, speedy, furious, invincible, impenetrable, unstoppable, destructive and dangerous. G!FFT obviously cares about playing music, unlike other punk bands that only care about complaining and thrashing on presidents. Sure, G!FFT's lyrics can be political, but that's not what they're all about. They really know how to play punk rock.
