Best known for such pop singles as "Silence Is Golden" and "Here Comes My Baby" the Tremeloes were in reality much, much more. Beginning life as the backup band for vocalist Brian Poole, the band were written off as "has beens" when Poole departed in 1966. Fact of the matter was, just the opposite was true. Following Poole's departure, the band hit the British top 5 and US top 15 with the Cat Stevens penned "Here Comes My Baby" and followed up with the US top 40 "Even The Bad Times Are Good." While the band enjoyed many more hits, especially in the UK, they made some much more interesting records such as the psychedelic "Suddenly Winter." The band continued through the early 1970s, making pop, progressive, and psychedelic music. The hits, however, dried up in the early 70s, and by 1973, they had changed labels and names (to the Trems) in an effort to increase sales. The 2 cd anthology compresses the singles of the band beginning with their cover of the Beatles "Good Day Sunshine" in 1966 through 1974, with the inclusion of the 1983 single "Words" as an afterthought. Much interesting music is contained in the 51 tracks and more than 150 minutes. This album will be of great interest to fans of 1960s British invasion music, and will surprise the listener with the instrumental talent possessed by the Tremeloes.
