"Greenroom Blues" is the band's second release on Tooth and Nail Records. The title is dedicated to the studio that the album was recorded in as well as to the band;s producer Gene Eugene that passed away while the record was being completed. Much like the band's first record, Deluxtone Rockets continue to create old fashioned rock-a-billy with their own punk-rock ethics.

    I dig the vibe here. This album is surrounded in tragedy, both the producers died before it was completed, you can feel it in the singer's voice.

    The Deluxtone Rockets have adopted a new sound on Green Room Blues, with more rockabilly and less swing. With no horn section, the band sounds different and their lyrics have taken a great leap from their debut. In addition to a new sound, the band has two new members and although they are still called the Deluxtone Rockets, they seem to be a new group. Overall, the songs are enjoyable, but sometimes it seems the band is exploring too many different kinds of music all at the same time. This makes the album a little choppy, but lets the listener see the Deluxtone Rockets experiment in areas they hadn't before.

          4 out of 5 stars The sounds of New Orleans.......2006-09-01

          This CD collects material recorded live at a joint in San Francisco in February 1947 by Kid Ory's band. It's a New Orleans band and plays the music very much in that style (except for clarinetist Joe Darensbourg who solos more in a swing style). It can sound pretty rough at times, especially from trumpeter Mutt Carey, who plays with more directness than finesse and rarely solos far from the melodic line, if at all. I've also got to admit that Kid Ory has sounded better elsewhere than he does here, although he's very good on the slow blues SNAG IT. Darensbourg consistently shines and is the chief soloist; he's not a Benny Goodman but he's closer to that sound and style than to, say, N.O. clarinetist George Lewis. He also sings handsomely on BALLIN' THE JACK. Some of the better tracks include WHISPERING, SIOUX CITY SUE, RIVER OF THE ROSES, C JAM BLUES, and SNAG IT. For music recorded live in a club in 1947 the sound is pretty good; on only a few tracks is it downright lousy. Anyone looking for the real deal regarding New Orleans jazz will find it on this CD.
