4 out of 5 stars Creepiest Hank Covers Ever Recorded.......2006-11-23

After listening to this CD I can't go into a honky-tonk without a sense of dread. This recording is not an attempt to sound like Hank Williams or even Tony Bennett or even Hasil Adkins. You will probably not ever hear another more idiosyncratic set of Hank covers. I am still trying to figure out whether I like this or hate it. Although I have the last cut streaming on my music server, and might add the first track. I gotta listen to this some more. And avoid honky-tonks.

Not a country fan but this CD is awesome. It made me want to learn more about Hank Sr. Matt Johnson can hit you in the heart better than any other artist... Also, DUSK is one of my top five favorite CDs, with the brilliant guitar work of Johnny Marr. Get them both!!

For those of us who grew up with little country in our collection save perhaps some Skynyrd and countryish rock like the Eagles. And for good reason - most country that us city folk end up hearing is crap on par with the worst pop rock.

This album is excellent. Before listening to it I only had a faint knowledge of Hank Williams Sr. Now I own a few albums. The amazing thing is that The The manage to recreate the originals in compelling formulations, while the originals still stand the test of time as they are. Hanky Panky is a great tribute to one of the best singer songwriters of days past by one of our own.

To many "covers" of Hank's songs have been done by Country stars in an attempt to reveal their songcraft but never make the song their own. THE THE does this and more. The interpretations of Hank songs, some familiar, some not, make for excellent listening. Hanky Panky engages the listener into appreciating not only the root source of the music but it's impacts on Matt's arrangements and the feelings he has for the songs. Hank may be considered Country but few Country stars make the transition to a song writer of classic stature and THE THE does justice to him. I can only hope that future THE THE interpretations are this gutsy and true to the source as Hanky Panky. For those who appreciate music and good music this is an excellent album to have in one's collection.

I am huge fan of good music and good lyrics. That said, even though I hate country music, I love Hank Williams. There just hasn't been another songwriter like at his level, with the exception of maybe Dylan. I recently bought the Timeless Hank Williams tribute CD, which I enjoyed, but with the great artists appearing on that compilation I just expected more. Then I heard about this CD. This disc is NOT made up of country remakes.... this CD is all rock and blues. And that's okay because Hank was a rock/blues singer at heart anyway. Matt Johnson does a great job on these songs, and after hearing this disc, it inspired me to listen to more of The The. What a great band, and what a great CD. Johnson is in touch with Hank Williams' emotions on every song. Best tribute CD... ever.

This is the CD single of Madonna's Top Ten hit "Hanky Panky". It's a great song which is an ode to the joy of spanking. There are two remixes of the song, which is less remixes than usual. The "b-side" is "More", from Dick Tracy.

Afther the single Vogue (that really did not belong to the I'm Breathless Soundtrack from the movie Dick Tracy) came this single. I like this song, it sounds nutty and fun.
The single has 3 songs, the Bare Bones Single Mix and a little moew longer version named Bare Bottom 12" Mix, both are some how different of the same song, the third track is a song that you can actually hear in the movie "More" with a piano intro this song is a reminder of the era of the movie
Hanky Panky peaked at number #10 in Billboard mostly for the more than half-million singles sold.

I'm a huge Madonna fan, but this disc was a disappointment. The single version is barely different from the album version and the extended version is basically the single version repeated (MORE or less). If you have I'm Breathless and are not a Madonna fanatic, don't bother with this disc.

i never thought i'll be finding this cd. this is i think very rare as it never reached philippine shores i guess. and its amazing i find it in amazon. though only 2 remixes on it and the song 'more' as the final cut, its still my fave cheeky song hanky panky. now more bare and more bottom on it. remixed by kevin gilbert. you gotta have this cd. slip it on your player, turn the volume up and get your bump spankin to this song.

There is an exploration of the existential in Madonna's work now that shows a definitive maturity. I think that the ability that sets Madonna apart the most is not simply being someone who manipulates media well but in truth two things: One, she's not a big fan of TV or indulging in the media, beign a puppet to it in watching it. Two, Marianne Williamson talks about that people who become legends do so because they tap into the concept of what the human consciousness is available to, needing to develop and that rings within all of us. It is that work that interests the rest of us.

    I bought this to replace my Mony Mony album...
    but to my surprise, it has the cleanest, scratch
    and pop-free version of Hanky Panky ever! The
    album version of Mony Mony is far superior than
    the single version too. Overall, it's a great
    value...two albums on one cd!

      While maybe not as good as later albums such as Loserville or In-Gadda-Da-Vegas, New Duncan Imperials (or N.D.I., as their fans might say) debut is still a fun little romp, w/23 songs clocking in at around 47 mins. It contains some of their classics, such as "motel 666", "I'm Schizophrenic (No I'm Not)", "Don't Hate Me Just Because I'm Beautiful","hamhocks", "6 pack of Love", and the crowd favorites "Velour!" and "Jagermeister". While the disc doesn't quite catch the intensity of their live shows, it still is, IMHO, a must have. New listeners would be better off buying Greatest Bits first, and if you enjoy that, buy the other 4 or 5 startnng with Loserville or Sticky. Recommended for fans of Reverend Horton Heat, the Ramones, or Mojo Nixon.
