"If you wanna hear me sing serious, buy an album," Dean Martin says early in this 70-minute disc, underlining his point by deliberately mangling the last word's pronunciation. Issued to catch the wave of Steven Soderbergh's remake of the Pack's romp, Ocean's 11, Live at the Sands is the second official issue of a Martin/Frank Sinatra/Sammy Davis Jr. show. This September 1963 date, though, is nimbler and funnier than the previous year's set preserved on The Summit in Concert. Some of the same jokes are told, but this Vegas jaunt adds at least one new running gag (Dino's brief rendition of "It's My Party"), and Sammy also gets a few racially tinged zingers off in return for those of his partners. Oh, and lest we forget, there's good music. Martin actually plays it straight on two Guys and Dolls duets with Sinatra, who also turns in a half-dozen strong performances on his own. Plenty of mystique is present, but Sands captures the trio hard at work as well. --Rickey Wright

Rat Pack live CD.......2007-05-12
So much fun to hear the Rat Pack performming. The best one is Dean Martin singing I love Vegas to the song I love Paris.
Best of the Best.......2007-03-08
A classic work by the Rat Pack. Probably a prime act of their their careers.
How can you go wrong?.......2006-07-01
This is the RATPACK on the home turf Las Vegas with a nice orchestra INCLUDING strings which add especially on the ballads.
The set is tightly paced throughout and though a few jokes are dated a bit perhaps, I think they hold up well.
Sammy doesn't get to sing a whole lot and he gets picked on the most - some people may be offended and consider that racist. Just the opposite - the whole objective of those jokes was to POKE FUN and RIDICULE racism which back then was still more prevalent. How many doors were opened to black entertainers by the RAT PACK is obvious.......
But back to the show......this is probably the best set that they did together and the sound quality is AMAZING albeit a bit dry (lacking reverb) for my tastes. What was nice is that Sinatra sang a lot of songs which he had (at the time) recently recorded e.g. CALL ME IRRESPONSIBLE, PLEASE BE KIND etc. Keep in mind this was yrs before MY WAY and NEW YORK.
So put this CD on, close your eyes and let yourself be transported back into cool land!
It's your world Frank, I'm just livin' in it.".......2006-03-08
LIVE AT THE SANDS is The Rat Pack on their home turf---The Sands Hotel, Las Vegas Nevada, 1963. Frank, Dean and Sammy go to town with a collection of old standards and new numbers with a twist.
Always humorous, The Rat Pack's soooooo un-PC banter about women, drink, race, sexual orientation and religion doesn't suit the keepers of the morals nowadays (it even gets edited by Amazon.com when written into a review {...}!), but that is precisely what makes it priceless. Topical and yet still timely, The Rat Pack will shock and delight you with their "Ring-a-ding-ding," an unselfconscious world of bourbon, cocktail waitresses, cigarettes, tuxedos and smooth arrangements, all punctuated by man talk. No Clydes allowed.
Although some of this material is reprised from LIVE & SWINGIN' and other collections, the performance in LIVE AT THE SANDS has a vigor and sparkle that can only be gotten from the home-field advantage.
For anyone wishing to experience The Rat Pack at their best, LIVE AT THE SANDS is it, baby!
Enjoyable CD!.......2006-03-04
This CD is a great addition for any fan of the Rat Pack. It has wonderful songs and hilarious dialogue between all three of the Rat Pack guys. In fact, you would probably enjoy it and laugh along even if you aren't into the Rat Pack! I recommend this CD.

Live and Swingin' is undoubtedly for those who already own some of the guys' worthier recordings. Oh, but the guys? Frank, Dean, and Sammy (or, as Jackie Mason had it on The Simpsons, "the Candy Man!") For most anyone who cares, though, this is a must-buy item: a slightly edited version of the 1962 Villa Venice tapes along with a DVD that preserves a rarely seen, full-length serious/funny/anarchic Rat Pack performance from '65. (For sentimentalists' sake, it was taped on Tina Sinatra's 17th birthday; she makes a brief appearance onstage with the fellas.) All kidding aside, the trio makes with the serious singing - though perhaps those who came to hear Sammy get through an entire mini-set without interruption will want to go elsewhere, as his partners' shtick barely allows him to finish a line, much less a song. Sinatra aficionados will find the DVD indispensable, as he paws his way through a mellow version of "My Kind of Town" (benefit location "St. Louis"!) and "Fly Me to the Moon." --Rickey Wright

very very good.......2007-07-05
I actually haven't heard it but it was bought as present for my father and his review of it was it's very good some of the banter between the three of them is priceless and a must for any fan of the rat pack.
Classic.......2007-06-27
By far the best deal you can get if you're a fan of the Rat Pack (Sinatra, Martin, and Davis). The boys sing well and though the jokes are repeated and scripted, (Martin was the only true comic of the group) they never get old. Carson fills in admirably for Bishop on the DVD and even manages to sing an entertaining part in the unofficial theme song of the group, Birth of the Blues.
As a fan who never saw them in person, this is as close to them as I can get and it's almost enough.
Rat Pack.......2007-05-20
Having grown up in a household where Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr were my father's favorite entertainers we recently went and saw the production Rat Pack Live at the Sands. The show was great and I decided to see if there were any recordings of the real Rat Pack available. I stumbled upon this package and I was not disappointed and I am sure you will not be either. It is filled with many classic songs and skits, although Sammy isn't really given the opportunity to perform seriously, but from what I have heard that was the case during their shows.
It doesn't get any better than these guys.......2007-05-13
I was born a generation too late. They were the best! True entertainers

Customer Reviews:
fanatastic!.......2006-06-17
This story is great! I'm a Suzuki violin player and this tape has great recordings of many of the songs. Not only are there wonderful recordings, but the story is full of suspense and is very enjoyable to listen to. Ever since i was a toddler, I listened to it and now that I am in my early teens i still find it a really good story. I find myself listening over and over to it. After listening to it dozens of times it still is just as good and never gets tiring to listen to. If you are thinking of buying a story on cd this is definatly the one to get! Both you and your child will love it! I know that my mom and I do!
the very best.......2006-05-01
I started listening to this story since before I can remember, when it was just a tape. I am 20 years old, and Vivaldi's Four Seasons is still my favorite classical work. I had other classical tapes as a kid, but this is the one I remember most and remember well. The story is just amazing of Katerina, and it is an easy way for young kids to sit and listen to classical works, while still being entertained by an audio book. I recommend this to all parents out there for their children.
Katerina- an inspiration for the last 11 years.......2005-12-29
My daughter first listened to this tape at age 3. We listened to this tape (and when it wore out, a CD) constantly. As a young Suzuki violin student, the character Katarina inspired my daughter's desire to be able to play the A Minor Concerto that Katarina plays upon her introduction to the girls in the orchestra of the School of the Pieta. When she was five, she arranged all of her Barbies into an Orchestra, and put a red-headed stuffed animal as the conductor, Vivaldi. Similar to children mentioned in other reviews, by the time she was six, having listened to this series (and other classical music) frequently, she could identify the orchestral work of most of the major composers, and place the work of obscure composers in the appropriate time period.
We never tired of this CD, and I will now puchase it for a young niece. If you want to purchase something you and your family will treasure, this is the one.
WONDERFUL!!.......2005-10-27
I am now 17 years old and listened to this when it wasn't even a CD it was a tape. Yet the music on this CD still haunts me. Vivaldi is one of my favorite composers and I think this is the CD that started it all. The story is enchanting (though perhaps a little cliche at times) and I must admit that I have listened to it again and again. In fact the last time I listened to it was driving around last sunday. I would reccomend this to anyone and unlike barney I think the parents can really enjoy it too.
Nora via. her fathers account
Very well done.......2004-08-30
My daughter is 3 and loves this CD. She goes to sleep many nights listening to it and love the characters in the story. I think it is a great way to humanize the composers, by letting them listen to wonderful music and a very entertaining story as well.
In our home, we don't place much value on television, computer games etc..., but we LOVE books and stories. If I can't be there reading to my child, this is DEFINITELY the next best thing.

Timed to the release of the 2001 remake of the Sinatra-Martin-Davis anti-classic Ocean's 11, this 18-track compendium serves as less a best-of than an introduction to the high-living nightclub ethos the Rat Pack embodied. Along with some true knockouts, mostly from Frank's catalog, Eee-O 11's mostly beltingly upbeat tracks also include the impossibly corny (a "When You're Smiling" that seems to be putting Dino himself to sleep) and a couple of straitjacketed studio takes on the Pack's onstage antics (both Sammy duets). Handily, 11 culls one of the original movie's few high points--the rousing Davis blues that provides this disc's title--for a closer. Those drawn in by the newer flick will find this a welcome package, as will swingin' initiates looking for a road-trip CD soundtrack. --Rickey Wright
Customer Reviews:
Great Album.......2007-01-19
I bought this for my 15 year old son who has recently discovered and loves the singers/standards/jazz of the 50's and 60's. He actually goes to sleep listening to this! So much better than all of the hip-hop "yelling at life" stuff out today that is so degrading.
A great selection from Frank, Sammy and Dean. I would recommend this to anyone.
"In the meantime...Eee-oh, Eee-oh...Eee-oh-11...Eee-oh-11.".......2006-03-29
A compilation of studio recordings by Messrs. The Rat Pack, (aka Frank, Dean and Sam) this irrepressibly upbeat CD is a fine intro to those of us (not me) too young to remember The Boys in their hey-hey days, and a gift of memory to those who do (including me).
Standards from The Rat Pack catalogue round out most of this disc, topped by Sammy Davis Jr.'s beautiful blues rendition of the original OCEAN'S ELEVEN theme song. Enjoy!
So put the top down and go cruising. It's a cool day inside, pallie.
Rat Pack rules.......2006-03-09
This is a fabulous collection of Sammy, Frank and Dean. Above all it is worth it just for the duet of Sammy Davis, Jr. and Frank Sinatra singing "Me and my shadow." It's pure magic.
A Real "Best Of" Package.......2004-07-21
Unlike other Rat Pack "Best of" compilations out there, which tend to be a collection of Frank Sinatra standards with a little Dean and even less of Sammy thrown in, this is a true, balanced package highlighting all three entertainers' talents equally.
Even more fun are two duets, "Sam's Song," and "Me and My Shadow" on the CD featuring Sammy and Dean and Frank and Sammy. These are a lot of fun to listen to. The musical repoire between these guys is pure magic.
This isn't one of the live discs - for one of those, check out "Rat Pack Live at the Sands" - but rather, a collection of studio material. But they're nice selections, 18 songs in all, and the CD flows. In fact, the ones they've chosen are particularly appropriate, as most of the songs are favorites of the Rat Pack - the ones they performed in their legendary shows.
Even if you already own a lot of Dean, Frank, and Sammy music, this is a nice collection to have.
Sitting on Top of the World.......2004-06-24
This album is not live album. It's just a collection of their songs. Released when remake of Ocean's Eleven is released. Sinatra is singin' "I'm Gonna Live Till I Die", "(Love Is) The Tender Trap", "Mr.Sucsess", "You Make Me Feel Son Young", "The Lady Is A Tramp", Chicago" and Witchcraft". You can also hear him dueting with Sammy Davis Jr. on "Me And My Shadow".
Dean Martin is singin' "Ain't That A Kick in A Head", "Volare", "When You're Smiling", "You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You", "Sittin' On Top Of The World" and helping Sammy on "Sam's Song".
Sammy Davis Jr. is singin' "Too Close For Comfort", "A Lot Of Livin' To Do", "The Birth Of The Blues" and "Eee-O Eleven" and two previously mentioned duets.
The collection is great, sound too. So, Swing This, Baby!

Classic Bad Company.......2007-05-23
It's a time warp of rock 'n roll. Fun music, classic Bad Company. Ballad Fade Away is great, as is Run with the Pack (though not a ballad). It's not as good as the first Bad COmpany, but still deserves its 5 stars as a clasic rock album.
Bad Co Still Runnin'.......2007-03-10
This Bad Company album, though not with the top 40 hits of their self titled debut record and Straight Shooter, may be the band's most consistent effort. Fantastic rock vocals by Paul Rodgers, clever riffs by Ralphs and the super group stability of Burrell's bass and Simon Kirke's drums make songs like Youngblood and the classic Silver, Blue and Gold really sing. I remember bringing the vinyl home for the first time! Great stuff.
Still runnin'!.......2006-11-14
This album is just as good as I remembered it to be, seeing as how I haven't listened to it for probably 15 years. I rank this one almost as high as their first (Bad Company +5) and second (Straight Shooter ++5). Probably not as many outright hits as the first two but certainly a good effort. Brings back many good memories!
Better than most.......2006-03-01
For years I have meaning to pick this album up on CD (I had the original on vinyl), mainly because it contains 'Sweet Lil Sister' - a blistering and soulful performance by Paul Rogers. I was not disappointed. That song is the best mover on the album, and certainly better than most anything else he recorded with this band. There are some other great tunes and classics on the album, the only clinker being an unnecessary remake of 'Young Blood'. Besides 'Sister', there is also a little played tune called 'Simple Man', another moving performance by Rogers, but this one is downtempo and meditative in comparison. This collection is worth having, even moreso than their first album, in my opinion.
Incredible Album, Awesome Tunes, Poor Remaster............2005-06-11
Lots of other reviewers have told it like it is as far as the album goes... this is Bad Co. at their peak... simply awesome tunes... I can play this CD all day long, even after all these years since it first came out and it still flat out rocks... excellent tunes... excellent grooves... whether for a first taste of Bad Co. or an addition to ones collection, you simply can't do wrong picking this one up... the only bad thing to point out is that it's very hard to believe this has been remastered. If you have a very resolving high-end system, you'll notice a lack of dynamics, a lack of transparency, very little punch to the bass or drums, instruments are not in their own spaces, there's not much presence to Paul Rogers voice, etc. etc. this is nowhere near the quality that is available from todays mixing boards and digital mastering gear. It is hard to imagine this is an improvement over the original release on CD... so much so that I ordered a second copy of the remastered version as I was sure someone must have swapped the disk from the original version into a case with the liners from thr remastered version. The result was that I received an identical disk from a different seller with the same poor quality sound as I'd received from the first one. Highly recommended for the tunes, but if you already have this title, save your money and don't bother with upgrading to the remastered version... it's not worth it... for those who are into it, you can't beat the vinyl on this one...!

Beautiful collaborations!.......2007-06-03
Eric Marienthal on Sax, Russ Freeman on Guitar, David Benoit on Keyboards, Vinnie Colaiuta on drums! These are some of the great musicians in this CD... David, I wait for the next album!
A Most Welcome Comeback.......2006-12-07
Listening to this album makes me realize how much I missed Pack's singular songwriting and singing voice. These are wonderful and professionally excecuted adult contemporary songs that have that trademark Pack touch: terrific harmonies, stellar musicianship, and a subtle warmth that sticks with you and grows deep inside.
This is an album of collaborations, and they work very well. The opening track with Ann Wilson is terrific and sets a great mood. "Vertical Disbelief" is quite nice. And the two Ambrosia remakes (Biggest Part of Me and You're the Only Woman) are tasteful and mature updates that furnish new interpretive subleties while retaining the sweetness of the originals.
I definitely want more.
inspired piece of work.......2006-09-05
David Pack's "Secret of Movin' On" is a truly inspired CD. Though this CD doesn't have the fanfare of many other releases, it has more depth and feeling than any CD that I have heard in quite some time. If you are a fan of David's work with Ambrosia, you will love this CD. You will also wish that Mr. Pack would have released more albums since the demise of Ambrosia.
long awaited.......2006-08-19
this is a long awaited album from david pack. i've been listening to his cool voice since his days with ambrosia. he's provided vocals for david benoit, tom scott and several other artists. i had the chance of finally meeting him last night at a private party at the mystique inside morongo casino resort and spa. he performed songs on this latest release as well as the old time favorites such as "how much i feel", biggest part of me" and "you're the only woman". there's no better experience than listening to him sing his songs live. "secret of moving on" is really a good release. more power to david.
great to hear again.......2006-07-19
I always loved Ambrosia and considered them one of the best bands of the 70's. I was so glad to see something new by an original member. The album is so reminiscent of the band but with some new material. I look forward to hearing new stuff from him.

Album Description
The latest disc from
Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band,
The Phat Pack showcases more of the hot licks that fans have come to know and love. In addition to the playful jazz of such tracks as "Whodunnit?" and "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" , the Big Phat Band teams up with guest vocalist
Dianne Reeves, fresh from winning a Grammy for her work on the soundtrack to the Oscar winning film "Good Night and Good Luck." In true "Rat Pack" fashion, Dianne tackles a sexy arrangement of the timeless Frank Sinatra classic "Too Close for Comfort" that is sure to become a classic in its own right. Her energy is as infectious as her vocal stylization, and if anything rings true for the Big Phat band, it's consistent energy-timeless and classic.
Gordon Goodwin comments about this vibe that ran through the creation and recording of the Phat Pack: "We in the Big Phat Band have similar aspirations as the original Rat Pack:! To bring to our audience a form of timeless, creative music that remains significant. We try to play this music with energy, passion and abandon, and with the same sense of fun that Frank, Sammy and Dean had. We just do it without the tuxedos and the martinis and the cigarettes and the gambling and the guys named Jilly and the showgirls
.
Showgirls. Hmm. Now there's a thought".

Customer Reviews:
The Phat Pack.......2007-05-13
I will admit that I am a big Gordon Goodwin fan and I like all that he and the band produces. This album is a logical continuation of the 2 earlier albums as he builds on what went before such as Hunting Wabbits 2. Even though I prefer the first "Wabbits" this version also shows the depth of the players. The musicianship and precision of the players is awesome in everything from funk to concert-serious (final cut). I have tickets to see this awesome band live. I can hardly wait.
Similar.......2007-04-27
I agree with a former reviewer that though the playing on this album is even more phenomenal than past albums, it seems like there's no new ground broken here. Aside from the two literal sequels, I compared the album to XXL, and you have your slow bluesy tune (The Phat Pack-What Sammy Said), the token latin tune, the tune featuring Eddie, the one with Take 6, the one with a guest saxophonist, the one with a guest vocalist. I'd say "Whodunnit?" is almost a third sequel, of "Jazz Police". Even the first tune is in the same key as High Maintenance from XXL. However, the quality and style of writing and playing is just as good if not better than the other two albums, so technically I should love this one, but I don't want to like an album on a technicality.
Going back to go forward.......2007-03-14
I wasn't aware of Gordon's band until I heard a cut the other day on KKJZ, the Jazz station here in Los Angeles, and soon found out that the lead trumpeter is Wayne Bergeron, with whom I've been in recent contact. As a fellow trumpet man, I'm awed by the awesomeness of Gordon's arrangements and the voicing he gives to each instrument's benefit, and thus to the listener. And Wayne's work is terrific, point on perfect; this ensemble has clearly been together for some time.
When Johnny Carson retired, we all thought the big band sound would fade away along with its greatest champion, but relative kids like Gordon have brought the sound up to 2007 without losing the feel or the soul of the 70's sound that brought big band jazz away from 50's cool and 40's swing. He tries his hand at some time signature experimentation with The Little Clam track, and if I have any criticism on that count, I'd love to hear a track or two of something inspired by a Don Ellis or Dave Brubeck, but that would just be icing on the frosting of the whipped topping on the cake. Love it!
The Phat Pack.......2007-02-24
Simply fantastic music, it's nice to hear some are still making good
wholesome music everyone can appreciate. Gordon keep up the good work.
Another step up!.......2007-02-12
I have been a Phat Band addict since "Swingin' For The Fences" (first CD). In all my years of listening to big band, this band and the music they play is phenomenal and of the best ever recorded.
A little over two years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Gordon and the guys at The Jazz Bakery in LA. That being said, it's a kick to hear Gordon's commentary on each piece in the bonus section of the DVD.
Back to the music. Oh my! At first listening I was I thought I liked "XXL" better. Subsequent listening has proven not so. The "Phat Pack" is another step up in difficulty and imagination in the writing and playing. Gordon keeps upping the ante to show us the genius he is and to stretch his players in their abilities. What a great situation for all involved! "Play That Funky Music" is unreal! All the way to "Ever Braver, Ever Stronger" which is extremely emotional......then to hear what Gordon has to say about it. All the tracks in this CD are truly wonderful! Great writing, great playing, great engineering!
Being a drummer myself, my compliments to Bernie Dresel and Ray Brinker. Incredible playing guys!
Thank you Gordon for your care and interest in young musicians.
In conclusion, you should own all three of his Phat Band CDs. You will hear the increasing quality of a band that is growing together. What a ride guys! Hopefully, you have more to come.

For fans of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, et al., this is the essential cartoon soundtrack as well as a monument to surrealism. During his 22 years as a composer for Warner Bros. animated shorts, Stalling invented the musical vocabulary of cartoons. Producer Hal Willner has lovingly assembled a sonic collage that showcases Stalling's compositional genius and uncanny ability to borrow a tune. It's a whirling collection of random moments, chock full of music you never knew you knew, from Bugs Bunny's theme from "Rabbit Fire" to Raymond Scott's "Powerhouse" to Stalling's own "Woo! Woo!" Also included in the mix: outtakes from recording sessions, and several complete scores. --Heidi MacDonald

Best compilation CD ever.......2007-02-18
Carl Stalling gave me the best musical education I ever had. I'm spending the rest of my life learning the titles and composers of all the hundreds of tunes I first heard in his cartoon scores. I've had this CD ever since it came out, and it still is one of my favorites.
Only a handful of tracks are a complete score from one cartoon; most are snippets from several cartoons edited together with a common theme.
This CD is about a composer and his music, more than about the cartoons for which he composed it. To drive home this point, it includes the score from, of all things, 1939's "The Good Egg." No one would consider "The Good Egg" to be among the best Warner cartoons, but the score, heard by itself, turns out to be a tour de force that is highly representative of Stalling's work. That's what makes this CD such a great listening experience: It was pieced together by musicologists who chose the music based on its auditory qualities, and not on the relative fame of the cartoon associated with it. It is not merely a trip down memory lane (although it is that, too), but is a great creative work in its own right.
Despite the vast amount of Stalling music that exists, this CD provides as ambitious and exhaustive an overview as can be given, and its 1995 follow-up, while also worth having, is but a pale afterthought. There's no following this act.
Here we go........2006-11-16
This CD features music from the Warner Brothers cartoon film scores by Carl Stalling. There are some complete scores and also some "medleys", with clips from various cartoons strung together. Carl Stalling was a master at writing music for cartoons, but something is lost when you just hear the music without seeing the cartoon.
Stallings CDs.......2006-11-10
If you harken back to the days when you snuggled on the couch on a Saturday morning with your little ones, and ate donuts and drank juice and watched "Bugs Bunny" you will love these CDs. You'll recognize all the characters and their entrances and their pratfalls...and laugh and say "I've heard that!"...it's a walk down memory lane and a very special one, at that. I highly reccommend these to anyone who loves B Bunny.
Not to mention these are some of the finest musicians you will ever hear...a lesson in classical music, and cartoons.
The Carl Stalling Project.......2005-09-12
Music from Warner Brothers cartoons "Golden Years" (1936-1958).
Carl Stalling was the chief music arranger for Warner Brothers cartoons from 1936 to 1958. He was one of the foremost composers of cartoon music. This disk is much better than "The Carl Stalling Project Volume II."
Warner Brother's King of Music.......2003-12-02
Even if you do not recognize his name, Carl Stalling is a very familiar composer. He wrote the soundtrack for many of our young lives as the composer for Warner Bros.' "Merrie Melodies" and "Looney Tunes" cartoons from late 1930's to late 1970's. Hal Willner has compiled this CD that for the first time lets you hear the music on its own, and lets you realize just how much of the cartoons' impact came from Stalling's music.
Willner sifted through hundreds of cartoons to choose about 40 with the most significant music. He presents the music in a variety of formats. A few tracks provide the soundtrack for a single entire cartoon. Others are medlies from a certain period in Stalling's career or pieces that set a particular mood (such as the "Anxiety Montage"). There are also tapes from recording sessions for 1951's "Putty Tat Trouble" that give insight on how this music was recorded. I couldn't recommend this CD any more highly. (After you've given it a listen, check out a Raymond Scott "best of" album like "Reckless Nights and Turkish Twilights" to see just how many of its tracks are familiar from various cartoons.)
Stalling's music, instead of following the traditional rules of musical structure (exposition, development, theme, variations, etc.), was written to follow the rapid action of cartoons. Stalling would not compromise on this, even if it meant having the 50-piece orchestra play fortissimo for five seconds and then having only one piccolo playing the next four seconds. To ensure a perfect correspondence between the sound and the image, Stalling and the cartoon's directors would agree on a few sketches and on the timing of the action. This enabled Stalling to compose and record the music without even seeing the movie. Carl Stalling was also a master at telling a story through music, with gestures so clear, that there is never any doubt as to his intentions.
Stalling once said, "One problem with cartoons today is that they have so much dialogue the music doesn't mean much." Unfortunately, this statement rings true as we move into 2004. But keeping Carl Stalling from rolling in his grave is not why you need to buy this CD. You need it because it is IMPOSSIBLE to maintain a bad mood while this CD is playing. You need this to listen to as a stress reducer on those tough days. You need this because it is complete childhood in a disc.
I challenge you to turn on your television and watch some Looney Tunes. Turn up the volume and listen while doing something else (wash dishes, write a paper perhaps.) I guarantee you will know exactly what is happening, and to whom. This was the comedic skill and genius talent of Carl Stalling.
As Porky Pig would say: "abieh-abieh-abieh... That's All Folks!"

"If I had a huffy, you could ride the handlebars.".......2007-06-26
Dungeon Master of Ceremonies is a bit of a return to form for Chris. The skits are back and funny as ever, especially "The Package", about Chris arriving in Heaven and meeting Jesus. He continues to rap about whatever he wants; video games, drugs, himself, with geek references thrown all over the place. The album seems a bit more poppy and chorus-centric, but he never strays too far from his roots.
My favorite song is "Wiid", which has great rhyme scheme, lyrics, and beats. The preceding track, "Check the Ring, Yo" is a bit addicting too. "FTW" is a good opener, although it sounds better with the real music in the background, and that version isn't on the album. "Blastic" is a more pure hip-hop track with a nice sound. "OMC" features the return of Hallie Bullit, who does a lot of chorus vocals for Chris, and is a good song for shows. "Arulpragasam" is the next iteration of the more serious, wishful song that seems to appear on each record. It is one of many tracks that feature more actual music recorded specifically for the album instead of just beats made with Protools. It's interesting to see him branch out a bit and I'm looking forward to his next album which might be out by the end of the year.
Off the hizzle for bliggle!.......2007-05-10
I'm not going to lie, I bootlegged your album mc. It was a dark time. However, in a twist of fate that would change my life, my beloved hard drive full of delicious illegal content was stricken down and all data was lost never to be seen again.
Fast forward about 6 months, I'm hittin' up my first mc chris show, and lo and behold, a beautiful merch table with several copies of DMoC layed out for my purchasing pleasure. I pick one up, get it signed by my main man Chris Ward, and slam it in my baby blue 1990 Pontiac Sunbird's CD player. I'm chillin, groovin to the music, skippin the skits because you know they're only funny twice, and then what happens?
BOOTIES FOR BREAKFAST!?!? ON MY DMOC?! NO WAY! I must be trippin! So, what I'm saying kids, is buy the CD get the bonus track, and support mc chris. Cause the man is off the hizzle for bliggle. And you know it.
DMoC.......2007-01-10
MC Chris is a fine example of the Nerdcore genre of rap. His beats are original, his lyrics and flow are simply hilarious, but like most rappers, he is hit or miss. Some of the skits are overlong, but overall it's worth 10 dollars in my opinion.
A Step Beyond.......2006-10-23
mc chris has been at this game for a long, long time. I remember hearing a homemade tape of his about 10 years ago.
Which is why this record is such a treat for me. The first three tracks of the record have a real raw, gritty sound to them. He's backed by "real" (non-electronic) drums, a lowdown distortion-heavy bass, and a melodic yet powerful guitar. I imagine him with his punk rock buddies just kicking it low-fi/tech, and the results are amazing. Feel-good pop-punk sounding songs, with chris' signature hilarious self-deprecating and sarcasting rhymes delivered with his signature upper-octave style.
Another highlight is "PWOM" -- Chris' answer to AndrewWK's "Party Hard". A anthem for the ages that should be played at ANY (above-21) social setting.
This release also is VERY heavy on skits. Which work for the most part. mc chris in heaven meeting Jesus? A great concept to begin with, but it gets even funnier as Jesus shares with chris what we would all do if we had Jesus' powers.
Certainly, chris hasn't moved away from his hip-hop roots musically, musically. "Check the Ring" and "wiid" are the highlights here. Each has its own grooving vibe -- the former a dancefloor booty shaker, the latter a righteous chillout groove.
A great release that I've been listening to non-stop.
Another triumph.......2006-10-21
The latest album from Nerdcore rapper mc chris (lowercase, no dots, rewind) features more of his signature sound: memorable beats, tight rhymes, comedy skits, and his infinitely memorable voice.
Rapping about subjects ranging from video games, to films, to partying, to illicit substance use, and rapper posturing, mc chris creates another winning album.
A note: Amazon.com lists track 6. as "Wild." It is, in fact, "Wiid." Also, there is a hidden track 14: a remix of "Booties For Breakfast."
