I Told Her
Editorial Reviews
About the Artist
Adam is a true performer at heart. He started out humbly, born in Bronx, New York where he would put on concerts where ever he could get the chance - be it his own living room or his grammar school. He would sing for his friends, family and eventually performed in concert at his graduation ceremony in 8th grade at St. Clare's School in the Bronx. When he was 11, he got the chance to appear on a local children's TV show called Steampipe Alley with Mario Cantone. Mario clearly loved him calling him "bright, funny, and... a whiz!". "That was significant to me, because it the one show I did that my dad got to watch before he passed away [in 1995]." When he was in high school he was introduced to his first mentor, screen actress Sandra Rose, who helped him get started in the entertainment business. With her guidance, shortly after he landed a role on the fX TV show Family Business with Jeff Probst, and was guest hosting Newstalk TV's Teen Segment .
Ready for bigger things, he left for Miami for a year to pursue a career in modeling in South Beach. There, he landed his first big stage performance, starring in the play Love Allways opposite Latina superstar Tessie Santiago. After getting the theatre bug, his agent recommended him to move back to NYC to conquer the theatre world there. Upon returning he landed a breakthrough role in the controversial and critically acclaimed play Befriending Beau , about three neglected teens in an LA suburb. Adam soon then reached cult star status, and reprised the role of Tash for two more off-Broadway runs, eventually leading him to meet NY music critic Chip Deffaa, who cast him in his first off-Broadway musical revue, Mad About the Boy .
Mad About the Boy was acclaimed by such Broadway greats like Tony winner Tommy Tune and Adam starred aside powerhouses such as Baby Jane Dexter and Karen Oberlin. He recently recorded the cast album which is expected to be nominated for a slew of theatre awards. Keeping busy, Adam also managed to appear as a regular on the sketch comedy show Shameless and did spots on Strangers With Candy and Upright Citizen's Brigade on Comedy Central.
Releasing his first single, he is very passionate about his music. "Music, to me, is art. Any style, any place, pure and simple. Performing, singing and creating music are the things I love the most.". Bringing an R&B edge to a pop landscape, Adam describes his music as "a hybrid of styles with one powerful voice behind it". His musical influences run the gamut from Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera to Cyndi Lauper, Missy Elliot and Leeann Rhymes.
His first single I Told Her is a power ballad that he hopes will help those lonely souls getting over a bad breakup. "The song is about realizing that someone you want to be with more than nothing else in the world doesn't return your feelings, and that is one of the most painful things you can experience. For me, music can ease the pain and is a portal of release for it. I hope my music can do the same for others". The single is being released on the VC2America label on September 20th , 2003.
Presently, Adam resides in the Bronx with his mom and is finishing up his degree in liberal studies with a concentration in theatre at SUNY Purchase College. In his studies there, he trained with Cid Coughlin who helped him perfect the "performance" aspect of singing. "In all the schools I've attended, SUNY Purchase has been the most beneficial, welcoming, and helpful to me as a student." He has also studied with Broadway conductor Darren Cohen.
Adam is expected to be signed to a major label and releasing his first full album in 2004. Adam enjoys going to the beach, amusement parks, and his "favorite thing in the world" - " Buffy The Vampire Slayer ". His dream girl, favorite actress, and passion is none other then Sarah Michelle Gellar herself. The most important woman in his life though, he says, is his mom. "My mom and dad have given me all the tool

Customer Reviews:
What a steal!.......2004-06-23
This recording of Sutherland's earliest records is absolutely brilliant!!! She soars through Arne and Handel as if it were the easiest music ever written. Whether you love Joan Sutherland, great singing or both: BUY THIS!
Good Early Sutherland Concert Fare.......2004-03-27
This CD is 67:52 in length and provides 20 songs and arias from three live BBC radio broadcasts, as follows: 2 from the Dec. 1958 broadcast, 8 from the Dec. 1960 broadcast, and 10 from the Dec. 1961 broadcast. None are well-known operatic arias; none have orchestral accompaniment; all but the first two are accompanied by her husband (and teacher/coach/conductor) Richard Bonynge at the keyboard. (The 1961 broadcast is devoted to eighteenth century music and is accompanied by Bonynge on harpsichord.)
The selections are relatively unconventional and unfamiliar--evidently a point with the concert choices made by Sutherland and Bonynge--which will be welcome and refreshing to many. As the notes point out, "This group is typical of the creative programs Sutherland and Bonynge would present for next 30 years. They created 15 different programs and appeared together 129 times in recital. . . . [They] loved to rediscover music and made a specialty of reintroducing the world to many forgotten bonbons, such as these." Dame Joan is in fresh, youthful voice (her international career began with her Covent Garden Lucia in 1959, and she was 32 to 35 when these recitals were broadcast) and sings handsomely throughout, often displaying an attractive mezzo-like fullness and warmth of tone. But Sutherland opera fans may be somewhat disappointed, not in the singing, but in the material here, which calls for little of the full-throated excitement, dazzling pyrotechnics, and brilliant high notes of her best opera recordings; this is more modest fare, and it is, appropriately, more modestly sung. The sound is decent, clean, eminently listenable monaural, no doubt from airchecks, but has this small annoyance: it is afflicted throughout with a residual level of pre-echo and post-echo that is clearly audible on a high-resolution playback system.
The indispensable Sutherland collections (apart from her complete opera recordings) are The Art of the Prima Donna (2 CDs, all 1960 recordings) and La Stupenda (2 CDs, recordings from 1959 to 1988); these should be owned by anyone interested in Sutherland, coloratura soprano singing, or simply great singing. This recital, while enjoyable, is certainly not of comparable importance. But if you are a Sutherland fan and would like to supplement her meatier operatic endeavors with engagingly sung concert fare from the early years of her international career, this is a good choice.
sensational!.......2000-08-10
this are sensational. what singing, what a voice. A MUST HAVE!
Bravissima!.......1998-11-30
Anyone who question Sutherland as the greatest coloratura soprano of all time should listen to this CD. She sings with complete control in all the arias. I think that Mozart had her in mind for the Constanza aria. Sutherland before 1975 as a dramatic coloratura soprano is simply without peer in this and any other century. A must have!

One of my Favorite CDs.......2004-02-19
In this wonderful collection of Shakespeare settings, Mr. Rolfe-Johnson creates a magical atmosphere using his unbelievable musicality and gorgeous, gorgeous voice! The songs themselves range from the sweet and charming "No more Dams!" to the heavenly interpretation of "She Never Told Her Love", but for me the high point of the whole CD is his incredible performance of the early version of Vaughan Willams' "Orpheus with his Lute"...this song alone is worth the price of the album! Mr. Rolfe Johnson is truly one of the worlds most exquisite tenors! A must have for every fan of English Song!
Melodious Shakespeare.......2001-01-24
This CD consists of a collection of settings of Shakespearian lines by composers ranging from the 18th to the mid-20th centuries. It is an ideal vehicle for finding a new way to enjoy these writings of Shakespeare and also experience the work of a number of British composers, some well-known and some not so well-known

Customer Reviews:
Like it but better out there.......2004-08-25
I very much enjoy Wolfgang Holzmair and enjoyed his Beethoven and Haydn songs. They are not the last word in this music, however. Recordings of Beethoven's "An die Ferne Geliebte" by Thomas Allen and, especially, Stephen Genz, sweep away the Holzmnair version.
Both the Englishman Allen and the German Genz have bigger voices they use to greater advantage than Holzmair in the raw emotional sections of Beethoven's only song cycle. In addition, the Genz CD contains 18 of Beethoven's German songs and Allen's contains a wonderful concert recorded by British radio that includes songs by Haydn, Beethoven and Wolf.
Allen does not have Holzmair's sensitivity but he more than makes up for it by blowing the top of the building he sings in. His immense vocals are overpowering but still no match for Genz, one of the most brilliant young singers to come around in many years. He matches Allen's vocal power and exceeds Holzmair's sensitivity to the text.
Fans of Holzmair can hear him at his very best in the Schubert song cycle "Schwanengesang" on Philips, if it is still in print. This is a venue that is most well suited to Holzmair's voice, style and delivery and is a cycle where he can excel against all comers. In Beethoven, I'm afraid he is of the second rank.
German lieder not by Schubert.......2001-06-05
Franz Schubert so dominates the world of German art song, both in quality and quantity, that it's easy to forget that other composers have contributed beautiful examples. Holzmair's current CD attempts to redress the balance by offering works by the great Viennese Classicists: Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, some familiar, others less so. Certainly Beethoven's _An die ferne Geliebte_ and Mozart's setting of Goethe's _Das Veilchen_ match anything by Schubert in emotional profundity and matching of music and text. The late Masonic "Cantata," K. 619, by Mozart is also a real find. Haydn's songs, while pleasant, occupy on the whole a somewhat lower musical plane.
Holzmair and his pianist Imogen Cooper offer elegant, highly polished performances. The baritone has a light, smooth voice, almost tenor-like in timbre (he soars to easy high Gs and A-flats), and though he is never less than fully committed emotionally, at times one misses a weightier tone quality, especially in the Beethoven cycle. His diction in the Haydn English songs is not always easily understandable (admittedly the poetry is florid and old-fashioned). Still, this CD makes for much enjoyable listening of frequently unfamiliar repertoire.
What a sweet voice, fresh and earnest performance........2000-08-12
Holzmair gives us a very sweet and fresh performance here. His interpretation of some famous lieder( for example, Beethovan's An die ferne Geliebte ) gives new insight, and always in a delicate mood .In fact this is the best An die ferne Geliebte I've listened to. While with great Beethovan and fair Mozart, In my opinion the most outstanding part in this cd is Haydn's lieder. These sweet songs are almost forgotten by singers, and very few listeners know THERE WERE Haydn's lieder. Holzmair sings these songs with earnest and true understanding. And I think, If Holzmair could focus on words more, brings out the deep insight and power of every word in lieder, he will and must be a shining star in the lieder-singer world .Cooper's piano is excellent, the acostics balanced as well .
what a beatiful cd by holzmair.......2000-06-14
holzmair with his new cd's make me love him more. his voice are very beatiful. Holzmair's plangent, tenorish, gently vibrating voice just the right combination to all of this songs. The interpretations themselves abound in verbal and musical perceptions yet nothing is ever in the least exaggerated. this will be certainly one of my favorite cd's of the year.

The singing is excellent, and some of the pieces are quite good, but after a while you get tired of this genre.

Customer Reviews:
Livengood is a find.......2002-01-18
I didn't know about this Metropolitan Opera mezzo, and despite the notes in the CD booklet, most other Americans don't yet either. Too bad, as this is a luscious voice, perhaps even better suited for Verdi and the dramatic mezzo material than Haydn. Yet this elegant, understated reading of Haydn songs is all the more impressive because the voice is perhaps not the one we'd immediately associate with the music.
The Albany label also features her on a new release I've not heard yet--an AIDS requiem by James Adler and she must be moving in that assignment as well. Meantime, this sounds a most handsome CD, and one that can be recommended highly.

"Piercing Eyes - 14 English Canzonettas" - Victoria Livengood CD Review (Albany Records) reviewed by John Patrick Schutz
Usually, the mention of the term "Art Song" causes me to twitch, bringing me back to my College days when I had to sit through every student song recital and try to stay awake through ripe cherries, "Caro Mio Ben" or heavy-handed German Lieder. "Piercing Eyes", however, managed to catch my
attention on several levels. The fact that all 14 pieces are written by Haydn was of interest, since Art Song was not a major component of Haydn's work. Haydn wrote these Canzonettas on a visit to England in 1794 and his lyric collaborator was, more interestingly, a woman, the English Poet Ann Hunter. The combination of a composer of Haydn's reputation in collaboration with a contemporary female lyricist make this song collection important on an historic level. Hunter's lyrics are both fascinating and evocative, and very much from a woman's point of view.
It is however, the honey-rich tones of Mezzo-Soprano Victoria Livengood that spark the most interest in this unusual song collection. Livengood is a favorite of Metropolitan Opera audiences for roles such as Giulietta in "Les Contes d'Hoffmann", Maddelena in "Rigoletto", Myrtle Wilson in "The Great Gatsby" and Prince Orlovsky in "Die Fledermaus"; and her Carmen is renowned world-wide. Frequently compared to Rise Stevens; with a fuller voice than Cecilia Bartoli and clearer tones than Denyce Graves, Livengood is certainly poised on the edge of superstardom in the world of Opera. Livengood uses the depth and clarity of her voice to full effect in "Piercing Eyes", where with simple piano accompaniment by William Lewis, she exquisitely interprets Hunter and Haydn's canzonettas. A fine actress as well as singer, Livengood evokes the intense longing necessary for "A Pastoral Song" and "O Tuneful Voice", and the barely contained sensuality of "Pleasing Pain". She conveys both sorrow ("Despair") and joy ("The Mermaid's Song") with outstanding facility. Victoria Livengood certainly breathes life and emotion into each and every song.
"Piercing Eyes" is a remarkable paean to a hidden treasure, and would be an ideal holiday gift for the serious music historian, average classical music buff, or student of women's literature. The album would be a perfect accompaniment for a mid-winter brunch or lazy summer afternoon in a hammock. ... .
