5 out of 5 stars Pretty good.......2007-01-26

The sounds are great, although there is some interferance with the sound a little bit just from the water, but overall its great to listen to and do homework or work on things.

3 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, but not as beautiful as Humpbacks.......2007-01-11

If you're someone who likes listening to different albums by the same band to note and enjoy their change through the years, then pick up this album with one featuring Humpback whales. The contrast and similarities are rich and enjoyable.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome!.......2003-12-23

I think that if someone like me loves killer whales, They will LOVE this. BUY IT!

5 out of 5 stars Smokin, Smokin, Smokin.......2004-05-26

You're probably familiar with Tim Bogert (Jeff Beck & Vanilla Fudge) and Chet McCracken (Doobie Brothers) but Jon Bare is the driving force behind this "Killer" CD. He's an excellent guitarist (on par with anyone you can think of) and the songwriting is terrific... We've all heard uninteresting songs written by great guitar players - but you won't find that on this CD. The songs showcase the virtuosity of each player without being indulgent. Besides Bare and Bogert, McCracken really impresses - you didn't hear a hint of this playing in his Doobie Brothers days. But don't take my word for it, listen to "Be Young," "I Got The Blues," and "Spacey" and you'll be blown away.

Album Description

Shredzilla is the second release by studio wiz Jon Bare who takes the stage to deliver kick-ass blues and rock tunes with the awesome backing of veteran drummer Chet McCracken (Doobie Brothers) and bassist James LoMenzo (David Lee Roth, Ozzy Osborne, White Lion).

On this CD Jon Bare stretches out and takes the spotlight with his smokin' hot guitar playing and solid vocals. Not just another Stevie Ray rip-off, Jon has his own unique sound, somewhere between Carlos Santana and the Allman Brothers. Playing with fire and intensity as well as delivering some extremely melodic guitar lines, Jon covers all the bases from blues to rock, seasoned with a dash of reggae and funk. This is some great music to listen to while driving up the coast.

5 out of 5 stars NOT JUST A BLUES BAND.......2001-02-25

What a great find this was! I've had this album for a couple months now, and it refuses to leave the cd changer. Jon Bare plays some of the catchiest tunes with some of the most sinister guitar work I've heard in a long time. You get everything from blues, to reggae, to no holds barred rock and roll. His fat guitar tone reminds me a lot of the early Jimmy Thackery albums. Combine that with the song grooves of the Allman Brothers, and you've got some truely dangerous stuff. Bare must have a real jones for Willie Dixon, cause the 3 covers on here are all by Dixon. And it's all good, especially Dixon's "You Shook Me'. I didn't think Jeff Beck's version of this could ever be equaled, but Bare's version gives it a run for it's money. This is some serious mojo. But the best tunes on here are Bare's originals. My favorites here are "3rd Planet Funk", which is Bare's tribute to dead rock stars. This is the best rock song that I've heard in the last couple years. It just oozes that great southern rock sound beckoning back to the 70's era. Another standout on here is "Clambake", which would fit right in with that Elvis Presley movie of the same name. It's got some of the most creative guitar work on the album. This record's got the great songs, great playing by an ace band, and some good singing, especially on the songs "Bring It On Home", and the reggae inspired "How Love Turns To Gold". Just a very solid and enjoyable album by a band I hope to hear a lot more from in the future. Yowsa!

4 out of 5 stars How can you resist and album named Shredzilla.......2000-11-16

I bought this one almost purely on the title, and was absolutely happy with the decision! There are some fantastic tunes on this and the man can play guitar. Great vocals, great guitar, great everything. The "You Shook Me" should be played at a volume of 11 and if you your doesn't start tapping call the Dr. Fun versions of Help Me and Bring it on Home, and a band that can turn out interesting originals like these is hard to find (OK see Indigenous). If my standards weren't terribly high for a five this would get it!

Album Description

Jon Bare takes his Killer Whales to new heights... creating his own personal Orcastra to perform his latest unique and varied compositions. With veteran drummer Chet McCracken (Doobie Brothers) and bassist James LoMenzo (David Lee Roth, Ozzy Osbourne, White Lion), Jon masters the spectrum of blues, rock, pop and alternative technical grooves setting new standards in the fine art of recording. Author of the book / CD "Recording The Electric Guitar," Jon employs all of his studio wizardry in the recording of Orcastra. Having written more than 50 articles published in Recording Magazine, Jon's albums are all audiophile-quality rock and this one is no exception.

4 out of 5 stars Original and Excellent.......2003-01-18

Wish Amazon had a way to make this 4+ stars.

Maybe not a "5", but a lot of the material on this release is downright incredible.

To my ear, "Be My Someone" would make an great title song or soundtrack for a movie. Filming now? Check this out and then fire up that victory cigar. You're home.

I own all of this group's CD's. Orchestra is a breakout in terms of the complexity and variety of Jon's compositions. The excellent sound quality and production evident in prior works has been equalled if not exceeded in this effort. In short, I think this is as good or better than most of the stuff out there selling millions of units.

Overall an incredible accomplishment for this independent and as of yet apparently unsigned guitarist/band.
