Epic Universal Funk Jam !!.......2005-04-07
Born in 1972 on tha otherside of the big dippa I missed out on this jam.... it ain't no thing though......coz the recording is clean and authentic........take some precautions though........
1. Check your fire insurance
2. Clear out your room, so you can't knock sh*$ over when you're booty starts funkin.
3. Pump up the volume
4. Press play
5. Hold fast......
6. Let it all go and TURN THAT MOTHER OUT!!
Bootsy, Catfish, Mudbone, P-nut, Maceo, Kush, Rockin',Razor Sharp and Kash are FUNK's DREAM TEAM!!
It don't get any better than this!
Not What You Are Thinking..................2004-07-06
This cd is not what I thought it was going to be but thats not a bad thing as I will demonstrate. First of all the space bass is absolutely insane. It is so out in front and loud that it can drown out the rest of the band at times, and dominates almost every song its on. This would be absolutely obnoxious if it wasn't Bootsy jamming the craziest notes to ever come out of that thing. The space bass is very loud, and very in your face, and very good. Due to the space bass and arrangements the live versions of the songs on the back sound almost nothing like the studio versions. It seems as if the tracklisting is just a mere guide for a couple notes and style of play that suits the song. This is almost entirely free form and they do not stick closely to the studio versions. I enjoyed this aspect because I own the studio versions of most of these songs and I want to hear something different and this is that. So with this cd, in addition to what other reviewers have said you will get: loud, in front, dominating, crazy space bass and completely different versions of your favorite rubber band jams.
Free your mind with this cd........and your a$$ will follow funkateers!
BOOTSY KILLS LOUISVILLE (IN A GOOD WAY!).......2004-05-10
reviewer glenn brown has hit this mutha' on the head! i couldn't even try to add to what his review said, but i did feel the need to re-enforce this opinion. this is bootsy and his beloved space bass in all their glory, without any deodorant, just funkin' louisville to death!
AN ABSOLUTE ESSENTIAL FOR THOSE OBSESSED WITH FULL-ON FUNK!!!!!!
Damn!!!!!.......2004-01-07
I just purchased this CD. It took me 9 months to aquire it and I could not believe what I heard! I am a Bootsy/P-Funk fan from way back and I did not expect this much funk! Everthing about this CD is excellent. Bootsy has the Space Bass on steriods, slammin hard in your face (there is no other bass sound like it!) and the Rubber Band is tight as hell. This is the best live CD I have ever heard! For all you Hip Hop/Rap young cats, find this CD. This is uncut funk from the originator, the way funk is supposed to be. Amazon/CD Now, Please push this CD to the top of the must have list for young fans. I had to purchase it used so please advertise and create a demand for this CD. Put it out there for the young music fans. Make this a priority. It's that good! This will be pure education of the P-funk for the un informed. If it were possible, this CD deserves an American Music Award for best live performance. It's that powerful!
" Uncut Funk".......2003-12-11
This is one of two live C.D.'s that I have by Bootsy and by far I feel this is the best.It has a kind of unpolished and raw edge to it.I feels like Bootsy's Rubberband was on a mission that night to lay down some serious grooves. From start to finish they were on "FIRE"! This is what funkin' was about. Take it from a rubberfan of almost thirty years this C.D.aint no joke.

A worthy effort!.......2006-02-28
If you havent heard any 'new' Steppenwolf in a while then this is the one for you. A nice mix of the old and the new. I think that EVERYONE knows that John Kay is the only original of the group but dont let that stop you from getting this. This incarnation of 'The Wolf' is worth a listen.
GOOD IN 1971, BETTER TODAY..............................2005-11-23
I PURCHASED THE DVD OF THIS SHOW AND WAS VERY SATIFIED. I'M GLAD THAT JOHN AND THE CREW STILL HAVE NEW MUSIC TO OFFER. JOHN HAS ALWAYS BEEN ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONG WRITERS. HOW MANY SONGS HAVE YOU HEARD RECENTLY THAT COMPARE TO THE WORDS TO " THE ENDLESS COMMERICAL ". WE HOPEFULLY ALL CHANGE FOR THE BETTER AND IN MY OPINION THIS CD AND DVD SHOWS THAT JOHN AND THE BOYS CAN STILL ROCK AS HARD AS EVER. ITS OK TO USE THE PAST AS A REFERENCE TO THE FUTURE, BUT THE FUTURE IS NOW !!!!!!! KEEP ROCKIN' BOYS.......................
If you want some authentic live Steppenwolf...don't buy this.......2005-01-18
This is a brand new release from the current edition of Steppenwolf which is John Kay and none of the other original members. Strangely enough though is that the current edition has been together a lot longer that the real deal. But that's neither here nor there because this band is just too slick. There is no edge here from a band that had a lot of edge in their day. John Kay still has a strong distinctive voice but it too has mellowed with age and who wants mellow with their "heavy metal thunder"? I know I don't. Some people might say that's expected with middle age but I don't see that happening with other music legends like Eric Burdon, Iggy Pop or Neil Young. Plus half the concert consists of new songs which are truly horrible! If you want some authentic live Steppenwolf, buy the original MCA title released in 1971.

Starz Live in Louisville at Last!!!.......2001-01-13
Well, well, well...Starz played in Louisville on two very hot nights in Louisville back in 1978. I went to one of the concerts and stayed home and taped the other show which was broadcast live on the radio...on an 8-track tape whose life ended long ago. But now, I have a chance to relive one of my fondest rock memories with this album. Starz played great on those two nights and were at the top of their game. The sound from Memorial Auditorium was quite clean, and this is a fair example of what Starz was all about. Fun, not pretentious, and exciting. You cannot have experienced rock theatrics without listening to the extended live Michael Lee Smith stage patter on "Pull the Plug," one of my favorite Starz compositions.

Funk Is It's Own Reward.......2002-09-04
Bootsy Collins.....One of the greatest bass players of all time does an exceptional job on this rare import. The cuts were taken directly from the GMBC's Music Archives 0f 78'....Live and direct from the mixing board.
Most of the tracks were from Bootsy's 1978 album "Bootsy...Player Of The Year?" with the same band members...Bootsy,P-Nut,Maceo,Frankie Kash Waddy,Fred "JB" Wesley,Joel "Razor Sharp" Johnson,Rick Gardner,Richard "Kush" Griffith,Gary "Mudbone" Cooper & Bootsy's big brother Phelps "Catfish" Collins. The cuts "What's The Name Of This Town","Hollywood Squares","Roto-Rooter","Bootzilla" & "Very Yes" are all here! There are also a number of other hits that were equally satisfying.
Let me be honest about my rating.....I would have given this album a 3-4 star rating ONLY because I am NOT a big fan of live albums but I just had to give it a 5 after hearing how great Bootsy's Space Bass sounds live. If you have never heard anything else live by this band or seen a concert, This will definately satisfy your hunger for raw, live funk/soul.
I scoured the planet trying to locate this disc and once I listened I was hooked! Like I said I don't really care much for live albums but something about this one just magnetizes your senses.
I have loved Bootsy's playing ever since he was with The Godfather James Brown & The JB's on through to his Parliament/Funkadelic thang. Great player of that thing called a Bass. His playing ranks up there with the best of them....."Larry Graham,Mr.Mark from Slave (extremely under-rated) and a few other well known but underated bassists.
Cop this disc if you love funk, Player Of The Year or any of Bootsy's stuff. Well worth every penny.
Peace
Bootsy at his Best ! ! !.......2002-04-26
Bootsy might have been the bad boy of the JB's (supposedly James Brown fired him because he dropped some acid one night and ran off the stage thinking his bass turned into snake...), but when it came to P-Funk, Bootsy sho'nuff had it together... There's a tightness in the Rubber Band that you're not going to find at a rockier more tripped out P-Funk show... The Horny Horns hit those high notes and the rhythm section is tight, poppin' and crackly - - musicianship aside the sound quality is fantastic (straight from the board and well mixed !) - - you really feel yourself gettin' bopped in the head when the bass, clav and horns hit on this recording... When you hear Bootsy's wacked out "space bass" you know there's a party going on - - He's great with the dance floor albums, but can deliver on slow jams just as funkily... and there are even some great solos on the CD too... (Check out Catfish's guitar solo on Very Yes, not to mention a screaming trumpet solo on Roto-Rooter - - and that's just the icing on the P - - oh yeah, and Maceo Blows !) - - Plain and simple, if you've haven't heard this recording, and like Bootsy you're missing Bootsy at his best...
The line up - - Gary "Mudbone" Cooper, Robert P-Nt, Catfish, Maceo, Richard Kush Griffith, Rick Gardner, Joel "Razor Sharp" Johnson, and Frankie "Kash" Waddy...
If you like this CD check out a bit of Chuck Brown (who's also been known to utilize the P-Funk horns) - - Check out THIS IS A JOURNEY and LIVE at the 9:30... Funk on bobbah...
