Customer Reviews:
Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30
Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.
Top Shelf.......2007-01-04
This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.
TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23
THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.
Great Collection of Broadways greatest Songs .......2005-06-14
This Collection was perfectly made it has almost all the most famous Broadway songs on this 5 cd set. The Music is great and has Broadways greatest treasures like "Memory""People""With One Look""Give my regards Too Broadway" just to name a few of this numerous cd set with over 100 songs. This is a great buy if you like musicals or The music of Broadway
Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17
If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

Kurt Weill: Re-discovery..........2006-11-10
I am so impressed and pleased to have found this recording on Amazon.com. I am always amazed when I find these seemingly obscure recordings, and thrilled to know they exist. What a wonderful history of our musical world---and what a chance to hear interesting, challenging, and unusual performances from so many well-known people. The songs live on--the composer is 'new' again, and this recording becomes part of history re-discovered. Thank you Amazon.com for your continued professionalism and for having these recordings available.
Incredible Live Album.......2002-02-10
This incredible concert (which i attended) benefitting The Actors' Fund of America, contains some absolute MUST performances for any Broadway collector.
For me, the highlights are HUGH PANARO ("It Never Was You"), NANCY DUSSAULT ("It's Him") and TIM CURRY singing "Surabaya Johnny" in German!
Loretta Divine, Brock Peters, they're all great!

Customer Reviews:
another great album by the rodeo.......2005-06-22
I have been a Blue Rodeo since I heard the Five Days in July album. I heard this previously released cd after and I am impressed with the depth and creativity that this band provides with their music and lyrics. The highlights of this cd are Rain down on me, Western Skies, Already Gone and Let me be the last to know. Blue Rodeo are a band that has no qualms about saying what they feel, such as Fools Like You and Reckless with Greg Keelor growling out Dylanesque type complaints about the goverment and the church. I don't think anybody does it better. Jim Cuddy whode soaring vocals and brillant songwriting are second to none brings out three touching songs in Rain down on me, Already Gone and Let me Me the Last to Know. The last song called Angels is a an all out rocker which makes ends in an all out fury as the the band pours jet fuel on their instruments and then the song goes into a lilting piano solo. All in all a great offering, maybe not quite as good as their next cd but close.
LOST LOSES STEAM.......2003-10-15
The title song itself is perrenial, that much can be said, and as Greg Keelor has commented, it's a campfire singalong kind of song. The rest of the album follows in typical Blue Rodeo nature.... depending on what day you catch them. In my opinion Blue Rodeo will have albums that are good solid performances from start to finish, and on the other hand they have as many albums that are spotty. They should be taken as piecemeals, such is the case for the album LOST TOGETHER. As mentioned before, I'm am in total agreement that the title song is a highlight, as is the wonderfully folky, harmonious "Is It You". Another highlight is the dynamite protest song "Fools Like You". Such a great addition in a time period where protest songs were very very few in this hemisphere. There are a few more that are above average, but I find myself losing interest in a lot of these songs. They tend to run too long, either that or there are too many songs on the album. I've always been of the mind that less is more. Less could have really been more in this case. Well, this is all opinion, after all. Cheers.
Get 'Lost' In This CD.......2002-06-03
Blue Rodeo is a very well known band from Canada, they've had quite a few hits up here and have made some really great albums worth a listen. This would be no exception. LOST TOGETHER is often lost, in a sea of albums which hardly ever get recognized. It's a shame, because LOST happens to be one of their best. Blue Rodeo is composed of Jim Cuddy, Greg Keelor, Bazil Donovan, Glenn Milchem, Bob Egan, and James Gray. Definately my favorite song on here is the closing "Angels", which is both endearing and poignant. There are lots of strong suits here, including the title track, "Rain Down On Me", "Western Skies", "Already Gone", and "Last To Know". Overall its a strong album, don't look past it, you'll miss out on some great material.
Brilliant band.......2001-02-17
I have almost all of Blue Rodeo's albums and plan to get the two that I do not have yet. This album is great...I would like to say that it's their best, but quite honestly, all their albums are so equally good. And not only their albums, but the songs on them, too. Plus they write all their own songs and play their own instruments...a perfect rock band. And after 15 years or more, they are still going strong. If you are a fan of intelligent, well-written rock, then you will love Blue Rodeo. I can't recommend this group highly enough.

Customer Reviews:
what a hoot!.......2007-01-19
By far, my favorite song on this CD is the first. Its just so over the top that its really fun to listen to. I have played this song for tens and tens of people who would never be considered "radical" or even "progressive" and they have all loved it. Most of the songs on the CD are about Israeli aggression towards the Palestinians. Now the thing you need to know about David is that he is a Jewish performer who sings about such things as human rights and the environment. He takes on everyone! He is in absolutely no way "against" the Israeli or Jewish people. In his personal life, he works with hundreds of such people all the time in order to promote human rights and social justice. His "beef" is any institution or organization that oppresses and bullies other people. His lyrics are in the public domain and so I will share a few sporadic lines from the song "After the Revolution". I love the lines just because I find them very silly (oh--if life could only be as he describes, it would be such a sweet existence...)
From Groton to Tacoma, On many a factory floor, The workers talked of solidarity, And refused to build weapons of war, No more will we make missiles, We're gonna do something different, And for the first time, Their children were proud of their parents, And somewhere in Gaza a little boy smiled and cried...
Prison doors swung open, And mothers hugged their sons, The Liberty Bell was ringing, When the cops put down their guns, A million innocent people, Lit up in the springtime air, And Mumia and Leonard and Sarah Jane Olson, Took a walk in Tompkins Square, And they talked about what they'd do now, After the revolution...
The debts were all forgiven, In all the neo-colonies, And the soldiers left their bases, Went back to their families, And a non-aggression treaty Was signed with every sovereign state, And all the terrorist groups disbanded, With no empire left to hate, And they all started planting olive trees...
George Bush and Henry Kissinger, Were sent off to the World Court, Their plans for global domination, Were pre-emptively cut short, Their weapons of mass destruction, Were inspected and destroyed, The battleships were dismantled, Never again to be deployed, And the world breathed a sigh of relief...
Solar panels were on the rooftops, Trains upon the tracks, Organic food was in the markets, No GMO's upon the racks, And all the billionaires
Had to learn how to share...
A downward departure.......2006-09-04
I thought this CD was a significant downward departure in quality compared to his earlier work. Don't get me wrong--I'm a big Rovics fan--but this CD is just missing something. I appreciate that he is trying to branch out musically but, for me, it just doen't work. As always, I appreciate the politics, but the music just isn't there.
music with a punch.......2006-03-24
Though I personally prefer the purely acoustic sound of his other cds over this more folk rock one, this is nevertheless a brilliant cd. Unlike the endless drivel of bubble gum pop songs played incessantly on corporate radio stations and mtv, this music has meaning and depth and right-on politics. Like Norman Finkelstein, Tanya Reinhart, Michael Neumann, Noam Chomsky, Starhawk, Amy Goodman, Yesh Gvul, Gush Shalom, Rabbis for Human Rights and the many Jewish members of Women In Black, David Rovics is part of a growing chorus of radical Jews demanding justice for the Palestinian people. I commend his courage and celebrate his talent.
p.s., if you're interested in Palestinian issues, check out some of the many books by the late great Edward Said!
great songwritting, great message.......2005-02-14
If you're looking for politically charged folk music, you NEED David Rovics. The lyrics are what you're looking for, and they're both poetic and meaningful. I'm completely down with what this cat's gotta say. Most of the songs are great also, musically speaking. As with all folk, however, it sometimes gets a bit repetitive. His nasal voice is also a turnoff. Aside from that, I recomend this disc.
Quality songs of counter culture.......2004-09-13
Return, is an album that tells wonderfull stories of resistance. Highlighting the plight of Palestine, David tells stories that touch my heart. The album is not all depressing though, with many uplifting songs that keep the mood from being too dark. I highly recommend this for anyone interested in music with political substance.

fantastic.......2002-04-23
i picked this album off ... when it was releasd to us die hard fans, i bought this version asap, as the tracks i feel are in a better running order plus theyve been more produced since the rough cuts of the ... version
this album finds the boys returning to there roots, stripped down guitars and an acoustic feel. this albums is what "spin this" would have been like had Phil been onboard. the songs are brilliant, some ranking among the best the 'Brandts have ever done namely 'too late' 'one of us' 'another day down' are some of the highlights of an all together breath taking album. As you'd come to expect from the 'Brandts songs are about love lost and found mainly.
so to conclude if you like a) the 'Brandts b)nice acoustic rock c)rock with pop sensiablities then this is the album for you. ok i do have one negative comment its not much but meh! on the song 'Lost together' theyve turned down the horns so if you get the chnce try and get the ... version for this song
Thank The Almighty...It's Good!.......2002-03-29
After the previous release of Danny Wilde & The Rembrandts, I never expected to purchase another disc by them. With Phil Solem out of the picture, it seemed like the glory days were long behind.
So, imagine my surprise when I heard about The Rembrandts releasing 'Lost Together,' with the return of Phil Solem. I thought to myself, 'I dunno about this....could be good, but...!'
Well, I'm happy to say that I took a big leap of faith and it was well worth it. 'Lost Together' is a solid collection of songs from two great collaborators. Best album by the band since the first 2 releases, and sometimes threatens to be better than those, it's that good.
If you liked the band back in the day, they deserve another chance to win you over. Definitely a keeper.
unfortunately not ( now )available in germany.......2002-01-12
Songs that stay in your ear, if you have listend to the cd. The world has waited too long for this music, I hope there will be a tour in Germany. A special mix of good pop, rock and harmonic ballads. Every song seems to be a true story...a must have for fans and people who like good stuff! Don't split again this songwriters. I am happy to get one from amazon.com...Chris!
Album of the Year.......2001-11-11
St. Paul and One Of Us are simply two of the year's best songs- with better hooks than almost anything you'll hear on the radio. But what makes the album such a success is the strong writing from start to finish. Do yourself a favor and check this out!
5 stars not enough.......2001-11-09
Only 2 listens under my belt and my only question is why aren't these guys monsters in the business? Quality tracks from start to finish. All you expected from the Rembrandts and more. You will not be disappointed.

Album Description
Ever Reviled Records is proud to present David Rovics's second studio album with the label, Songs For Mahmud. David Rovics is an artist that is unquestionably the primary force behind contemporary political folk music. On Songs For Mahmud, David turns his keen style of song writing to the plight of occupied Palestine, connecting the struggle of the Palestinian people with quest for freedom and self-determination across the world.
Customer Reviews:
Brave music!.......2006-03-27
This cd is another thought-provoking gem from the prolific and brilliant topical singer-songwriter, David Rovics. Besides being an amazing lyricist, he has a wonderful lilting voice and can really play a guitar. Some of his songs are funny (though serious), while others are simply heart-breaking. Check out his website at davidrovics.com, or better yet see him live! (He tours constantly).
WHO WOULD JESUS BOMB?.......2006-02-20
Quintessential collection by the leading figure in the current folk revival. Rovics, like Dylan of long ago, has a distinctive delivery, is a provocatively competent and accomplished musician, and speaks about the most important things in a way which everyone must hear. The now justly famous "Who Would Jesus Bomb?" is the most 'to the chase' anthem of the anti-Iraq War movement I've heard to date. DR has a generous web site on which you can hear his current material including the wrenching "New Orleans".
Courageous Music.......2005-08-11
In these days of cowering journalists, writers and other artists, it is a breath of fresh air to listen to Rovics' work. His cutting and insightful lyrics should humble the social commentators of our era. While Bill Hicks used comedy to attack our complacent reality, Rovics uses music. Inspirational work in the fight for freedom and democracy.
Political songs that I like to hear!.......2004-09-13
Truly, political folk singers of this caliber are hard to find. David Rovics continues singing political songs that are both humorous and serious. In my collection of David Rovics cds, this is probably my 2 or 3 favorite after "Return."

Album Description
The Rembrandts pretty much slipped off the pop radar after their fluke mid-'90s hit "I'll Be There for You," whose success (as the theme of a hit TV show nonetheless) pretty much guaranteed they'd be dismissed by hipsters. Judged without that baggage, though, Lost Together is a respectable, likable, even modest pop/rock record, better than those of many indies with cooler reputations. (And actually, this is on an indie label.) The melodies and harmonies are pleasing and not cliché. The songs are no great shakes as far as breaking new territory, but they're well-crafted evocations of the good and ambivalent times of personal maturation and romantic relationships. The production is no-nonsense, with some appealing acoustic guitar textures. It's not oomphed up for modern rock radio play as much as such material would be in the hands of large corporations. All this adds up to a triumph, given the low-key expectations for the endeavor. Atenzia. 2005.
