Mack
Editorial Reviews
Product Description
Mack, the debut album from Rollins Band drummer Jason Mackenroth's new band, takes you on a road trip through the soul of a touring musician. After seven albums with Rollins Band (including Get Some Go Again, Rise Above: 24 Black Flag Songs to Benefit the West Memphis Three) and six CDs with indie power trio Mother Superior, Mackenroth steps out front, handling lead vocals and, of course drums. He's joined by John Kuker (who's worked with Mudvayne, Girls Against Boys and Semisonic) and Jacques Wait (esteemed engineer for Steve Lillywhite and Eddie Kramer), who produced the album and play guitar and bass respectively. From the seedy side of Hollywood ("3'Some," a ribald punk rock tale involving two notorious L.A. groupies) and the back roads of Mississippi ("Dry County Shakedown," detailing a run-in with police that Jason had while touring with MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer) to the brief homecoming of "On 'n On" and his break with his longtime Mother Superior band mates (the plaintive "Mystified," the only quiet moment in a relentlessly rockin' CD), Mack takes you into the bloody, broken heart of a rock n' roll survivor.

Perfect for Cinderalla Lovers.......2007-03-15
My daughter loves the Cinderella movie and this CD is perfect. It has all the main songs and instumental music from the movie. There are also some additional songs not from the movie on the second half of the CD. Whenever we listen to this CD it's almost like watching the movie. Anyone who has kids that love the movie will also love this.
Need Help.......2006-07-12
Can anyone tell me if there are lyrics to the song "So This is Love" on this CD. I am looking for a CD that has the lyrics as well as the music to this song.
Cinderella.......2006-03-16
I knew what i wanted and Amazon had it. It lived up to my expectations. The quality was excellent and the service timley.
Cinderella (Special Edition Soundtrack).......2006-02-28
What a delight to finally hear the rich background music and much of the dialogue from this Disney masterpiece on one compact disk! Long awaited to be released on DVD from the Disney vaults, this entertaining CD companion piece to the new DVD has been certainly worth the wait. Ilene Woods, as Cinderella, has one of the warmest, most expressive voices you'll ever want to hear! All the voices are well cast, and the incidental music is evocative of a more innocent time and place. In addition, some deleted tunes, a Jim Brickman song, and an updated version of "A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes" are included, stretching the audience appeal of this disk. Listeners of all ages will truly believe that if you wish and try hard enough, your heart's dream can come true!
Not really a "Special Edition" Soundtrack...........2006-02-02
Yeah, ummm Disney, ya went wrong ONCE AGAIN!
This soundtrack only has three new songs as followed:
Dancing on a Cloud (Demo) (Only really new track which is already on the DVD)
Beautiful (On Jim Brickman's The Disney Songbook CD)
Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes (On Disney Mania 3)
So if you already own the original soundtrack, Jim Brickman's awesome Disney CD, Disney Mania 3 CD, and the Cinderella Special Edition DVD... PLEASE skip this CD.
Thank you! :)

The delightful pairing of Robert Preston and Bernadette Peters headlines the 1974 cast of Mack and Mabel. Despite a distinguished pedigree of composer-lyricist Jerry Herman, director Gower Champion, and producer David Merrick, the show ran only 66 performances on Broadway due to an unwieldy and tragic plot about the doomed romance of silent-movie maven Mack Sennett, creator of the Keystone Kops (Preston), and star Mabel Normand (Peters)--which won't prevent you from enjoying this CD. Herman's score evokes the old silents (the banjo is particularly welcome), and the songs include "When Mabel Comes in the Room" (a welcoming song that is a direct descendant of Herman's "Hello Dolly"), the sprightly "Tap Your Troubles Away," Peters's defiant "Wherever He Ain't," and "Time Heals Everything," a gorgeous ballad that Peters subsequently made into a staple of her solo performances. Both Preston and Peters were nominated for Tony Awards, as was the show. The CD includes extensive production notes and a synopsis, but no lyrics. --David Horiuchi

Mack & Mabel CD.......2006-11-04
Although this is not a well known musical, it contains some great songs and should be a part of any musical theater geek's collection.
Cheerful with lovely Music and Great Lyrics .......2006-04-12
Mack & Mabel is such a pleasure to listen too. Both Robert Preston and Bernadette Peters have such great depth and feeling in their voices, which makes this my favourite CD these days. I saw the pre-London production of the show on the UK National tour in Edinburgh recently and just loved the show too bits. If this show does a revival on Broadway, I will be there with my friends Wilma and her sister Audrey who both love Musical Theatre too and especially on Broadway. I can recommend this CD to anyone who loves musical theatre as much as I do, as the music and lyrics by Jerry Herman are fabulous.
A GREAT RECORDING OF A GREAT SHOW!.......2006-03-15
This is a great recording of the original "MACK & MABEL"-production on broadway. The songs are classic Jerry Herman and they are really great as this wonderful composer pours out one great song after another. Legendary Broadwaystars Robert Preston and Bernadette Peters are excellent as always.

Beautiful.......2007-06-14
This CD is a must have for any Mormon Tabernacle Choir fans. The music is very reverent and gentle, and should also appeal to those not from the LDS church, seeing as how most of the music is common to the wider Christian community. This CD is a fantastic addition to any music collection.
A few bright spots, but also some disappointments.......2007-01-19
It Is Well With My Soul is one of my favorite-favorites and that is the main reason why I bought the CD; it turned out to be a huge let down on this album, they rearranged it so much that I almost didn't recognize it. Be Still My Soul is another reason why I bought it and it's good, but not great. Swing Low Sweet Chariot is where it starts to get good. The last two songs "Thou Gracious God, Whose Mercy Lends"
and "Come, Let Us Anew" are very good reasons to buy this CD, they each have truely powerful passages and make the CD worth having. The Mormon Tabernacle Choirs 2006 release entitled Then Sings My Soul is by far the best that I've heard from them.
This CD Deserves SIX Stars!.......2005-11-05
However, the rating scale has a limit of five. I own over 700 CDs of virtually every type of music. Peace Like A River belongs in a class by itself! I've never written a review before but, after listening to this STUNNING performance by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, I feel compelled to share my praise with that of the five other reviewers. If I were limited to one word, I would use the word "SUPERB" to describe this beautiful and moving CD. SIX stars for Peace Like a River! BRAVO!!!
every good adjective .......2005-08-06
This album is all beauty and solace. The singing is pristine, the arrangements lush and often stirring--never saccharine. As with the previous reviewer, my first listing of "Peace Like a River" brought me to tears (especially "Peace Like a River," the sopranos in "Swing Low," and the bagpipes in "Thou Gracious God"). Buy this one.
Fabulous!.......2005-05-29
The perfect recording to help you recover from a long, hard day. Showcasing the MTC's "new" sound in contemporary choral arrangements with its own orchestra and conductor, "Peace Like a River" brought tears to my eyes in selection after selection during my first listen -- and I'm not normally an emotional person! The title song together with "Deep River," "Swing Low" and "Be Still My Soul" are alone worth the cost of the recording. Get this one!

Since he released his first indie single in 1994, Morrison has put three songs in the British Top 10 "Crazy," "Return of the Mack," and "Horny." All three singles are included on Morrison's U.S. debut, Return of the Mack. Far more compelling than the revenge-fantasy of the lyrics is the sound of Morrison's nasal, booming voice over a groove that seems to slam a thousand handclaps and drums into each beat. The man behind the sonic boom is coproducer Phil Chill, who once did the same for Neneh Cherry. A lot of artists switch back and forth between singing and rapping, but Morrison is one of the few who can do both at once in a conversational sing- song that combines melody and rhythmic exclamation points. --Geoffrey Himes
Customer Reviews:
Excellent.......2007-03-16
Even though this CD did not get positive reviews when it was released, I think it is one of the better male R&Bs put out in 1997. And the guy crying about "most of the (songs) are either about sex or getting high" shouldn't be writting reviews in the R&B genre. My .02
Return of the Mack..........2006-12-21
Personally, as "old" as this music is, I thoroughly enjoy it. I got it at a great price and "jam" it at my desk at work!! Five stars...
Return of the Mack.......2004-10-11
This is perhaps God's gift to our precious planet. The Mack may even be the newest relative to God. I love the Mack and I will listen to this album from this day til the moment I die and go to heaven where I will be eternally with the Mack. Thank you for this forum in which I could express my opinions on this amazing artist. I love you Mack!
The Big "Mack" Tracks.......2003-09-30
All right, time to get this anniversary party rollin'! Just lemme lay down this here Mark Morrison "Return of the Mack" remix maxi-single on my CD changer, and we'll be on our way to par-tay nirvana! Ever since I first caught this tune on a local R&B station some time back, I've been wantin' a copy of my own to play whenever I wanted and as often as I desired. Unfortunately, I was faced with a significant obstacle: since I had no idea what the name of the song's artist was at the time (the DJ never announced it on the air), I had to search for the song by title. But that was a bit of a prob, too-- I thought the name of the song was "Return of the MaN", not "Return of the MaCK". So after going through several hundred thousand pages of Google results, I finally hunted this CD maxi-single down, purchased it, and took a listen...
Although I was a little disappointed that the LP/radio version of the tune wasn't present, I thought the C&J X-tended edit was almost as good. The A Capella rendition was surprisingly mellow compared to its instrument-laden counterparts. Pretty amazin' the difference musical instruments-or the lack of them-make in a song when it comes to tempo and feeling, hmm? Speakin' of instruments: if'n you're feelin' up to beltin' out the lyrics on your own, give the Karaoke track (the last one on the disc) a whirl! Sadly, the BeatMinerz mix didn't impress me all that much. But hey, there's always the `next track' button, right?
Oh yes, there's also two renditions of `Trippin', a great tune to bliss to after a hard day's work-or a full day of goofin' off for that matter. I found the C&J mix rendition of this tune slightly more enjoyable than the Salaam Remi Remix. But both are just right for those times when ya just feel like... er... well, tripping I guess. But in a good way of course. Um, tripping that is...
All right... now that I got the jamz rollin', time for me to pop open a couple presents...
(Part 2 of my 4th anniversary party is located at www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B000092OKI/002-5381946-8604012?%5Fencoding=UTF8&coliid=&colid= )
The C&J remix alone makes it worth the money!.......2003-06-26
I heard the C&J version on my local radio station a few years ago and was blown away! The regular version of the song is one of my favorites, but if you haven't heard the C&J mix yet, you don't know what you're missing! Add a Beatminerz remix, a chance to hear the raw product (Morrison's extraordinary, penetrating voice, needless to say) in the "Accapella of the Mack", and two remixed versions of the song "Trippin," and you have a CD that makes you wonder why Morrison hasn't come out with a third CD. (I'm considering this CD his second one, since it's an accomplishment in and of itself).

Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30
Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.
Top Shelf.......2007-01-04
This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.
TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23
THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.

The Music is great and has Broadways greatest treasures like "Memory""People""With One Look""Give my regards Too Broadway" just to name a few of this numerous cd set with over 100 songs. This is a great buy if you like musicals or The music of Broadway
Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17
If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

Amazon.com essential recording
A 43-year-old Ella rolls through her typical routine in feisty fashion on this 1960 recording, which documents the opening show of her European tour. There's the Satchmo impersonation (a joyous "Mack the Knife"), the lengthy scat showcase ("How High the Moon," on which she quotes Charlie Parker's "Ornithology"), and a bevy of Gershwin and Porter tunes. Supported by pianist Paul Smith's quartet (with the elegant Jim Hall on guitar), Ella's voice sounds earthier than usual and her phrasing is as appealing as ever. She's sublimely tender on "Misty" and wonderfully sultry on "Too Darn Hot." The CD reissue includes two unreleased tracks from the Berlin concert plus two 1956 gems (including a stylish "Love for Sale") that were mistakenly pressed on this release. Upon its initial release, the album picked up two Grammies and peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Pop chart; its acclaim was well deserved. --Marc Greilsamer

"IT WILL BLOW YOU AWAY".......2007-01-13
This cd is beyond words...The first lady was in the zone on How high the moon...She scatted, she hit the highs and lows, she imitated all the instruments...If you don't get a shiver down your spine after hearing this, then you just don't get it...This cd will blow you away. It's one of the best live cd's I own...It's a great feel-good cd...Mack the knife is another great song...I love Bobby's and Pop's versions but Ella just takes it to another level...What song couldn't she sing?...It's worth buying for How high the moon and Mack the knife alone...She's in total control of her voice on this cd and it shows...I'm a young cat and heard this first in my Grandparents house. When I heard how high the moon I just lost it. I must have played that song 20 times that day...I didn't know a person could do the things Ella did with her voice...To this day this cd still blows me away.
I'm a rocker, but..........2006-01-03
if I could give this 50 stars, I would.
Ella's voice is truly nonpareil, and while I wasn't immediately in love with every song on the album, the legendary Mack the Knife, Too Darn Hot, The Lady is a Tramp, and How High the Moon kept me playing it again and again.
Many years later, I love every single song and this is still my favorite of my Ella cds (and I have a lot of them!), the one I play the most. It puts me in a good mood every time.
Her crystalline voice is always spectacular, but in a live setting, as pointed out by others, her creativity and scatting ascend to stellar heights. And there's an added quality of warmth in her voice not captured on studio recordings.
When I was in high school (30 years ago?), I had the chance to meet Ms. Fitzgerald. She was truly a gracious woman, and, as another reviewer pointed out, so truly humble in the face of her awesome talent. When I told her I listened to Mack the Knife every night before I went to bed, she said, "Don't do that, honey, it'll give you nightmares," and said she was also happy to hear when young people enjoyed her music.
I am listening to How High the Moon right now. Amazing.
If you haven't heard this cd, you are not just missing out on a legendary album and piece of music history, but a wonderful and joyous listening experience.
Ella, Live In Berlin, All Hail the First Lady of Song.......2005-10-05
Ella Fitzgerald is even better live than in the recording studio.
This album showcases Ella in what I feel is her most comfotable setting; with a small band and live audience.
You can feel the love the fans have for Ella even before she starts singing and as she sings through each song in this live set. Ella's humble manner comes across as well as she daintily thanks the crowd for the thunderous applause that she receives after each song.
Ella's scat on How High the Moon is at its peak. She always loved volleying back and forth with the band members to see who could out-scat who.
But the shining star on this album by far is Mack The Knife. Ella's rendition is memorable since half-way through the song, she forgets the words, but still makes it work and takes the song to a new level by launching into an impromptu Louie Armstrong scat impersonation which sends the audience through the roof!
This is one of the best live albums I have ever owned. Ella, Live at the Opera House, is a close second, but Live in Berlin gets my vote.
Excellent.......2004-12-29
I love the songs of Ella, and I've never heard in a concert alive. it is just great
"Too Darn Hot!".......2004-11-04
...and that's exactly what this CD is!
There's really no other words that I can use to describe! PURCHASE IT and find out for yourself! You won't be disappointed!

Customer Reviews:
some brilliant renditions, but can't quite all mix together.......2006-10-19
I like the spirit of this album, which is to let the music of Kurt Weill attach itself to the many worlds it came from. This was classical music that also used elements of popular music at the time, all with a very dark and almost mechanical tone. So it would seem fitting to have exquisite voices like Teresa Stratas rub elbows with darker elements like Nick Cave in this collection. There are also the jazz influences developed by Charlie Haden and Betty Carter.
In all, there are some brilliant interpretations of Weill here. I am a fan of Cave's "Mack the Knife" and David Johansen's "Alabama Song," and how can someone NOT like Lotte Lenya herself on "Pirate Jenny" and the drolling of the immortal William S. Burroughs talking through "What Keeps Mankind Alive?"
But other tracks feel to be just too short of brilliance. I love that Lou Reed tries to turn "September Song" into a kind of rock ballad, almost a VU "It Was a Pretty Good Year," but the rendition seems a little short of energy and falls flat after a while. Elvis Costello, though magnificent as an overall artist, just doesn't bring new life to "Lost in the Stars."
Perhaps the problem in the end that the choices were a little too much of the Top 40 Weill (if there really can be such a term). These are songs that have for a long time been regarded as the best of Weill, and it might have furthered the purpose of his music to find new gems and bring them into the sunlight.
Cool and Camp.......2006-08-24
This is a very biased review- I originally had much of Weill's work on cassette tape- way back in the olden days- before CD's- so I am already very partial to many of the tracks on this CD- I would recommend it not only to Kurt Weill fans, and the fans of the various artists featured, but I would also strongly recommend this to anyone who likes artsy, camp, fun burlesque, Bohemian European stuff. The record, even though performed by contemporary artists still retains much of it's zeitgeist, it evokes the era in which Weill was writing and it rounds out any great eclectic record collection. It's a great musical discovery for fans of all sorts of genres, and EVERYONE should own at least one recorded arrangement of "Mack The Knife". (You know, for parties and stuff!)
September Song Music of Kurt Weill.......2006-08-22
Songs from the film-documentary done by various artists. Excellent choice if you like Mr Weill's music. I saw the film and always wanted the CD. Now I have and I recommend it highly.
It's a long time between January and December.......2004-06-11
Kurt Weill is one of those composers who juggles Jewish angst with Catholic guilt: and possibly vice versa. As a collection, it is nonpareil. Each interpretation becomes a definitive reading of the "song". Lord, it is one of the best assemblies of contemporary artists going. Lou couldn't be better; Ms O'Hara, in fine form, performs her deranged puppet-dance to the X. OK. An unknown. Roping-in, such a postmodern figure as, well, you-know-who, to orate Weill's lyrics is never less than exceptional. An amazing collection. Is there a DVD?
Paul
Ain't we Hip?!!?.......2003-07-23
This is the avant version of these songs, everything done with that Downtown fingers-across-the-blackboard screech. They even got Johanson doing it, which is no less than amazing. The sole exception is the Persuasions' "O Heavenly Salvation", but one song does not an album make.
The mystery here is that there's a perfectly good compilation from the 80s, "Lost in the Stars: the Music of Kurt Weill", featuring many of the same songs--and, if I'm not mistaken some of the same performers. That's the one you want. Too bad it's OP.

LOVE IN ANY LANGUAGE.......2006-12-26
I bought this CD for the song "Love Is Spoken Here" which was sung at my father's funeral, to celebrate his life and love of music, especially Church music. Our soloist was a friend whose voice warmed our breaking hearts. But when I saw that I could also get the Mormon Tabernacle Choir version along with many other beautiful American songs, I ordered this. I highly recommend MTC if you are seeking choir music to lift your spirit.

Customer Reviews:
Considering that this is Too Short, I thought this was a sub-par "Greatest Hits".......2007-02-26
There should have been more hits... I mean this is Short Dawg!! About 40% of the songs were Hot To Me! But, you be the judge! Definitely worth $3.00, nothing over $5, including shipping...
Good.......2007-02-23
This is a good CD, the better songs are Dope Fiend Beat, ******* Betty, and Cocktails.
The $hort Dawg People Once Remembered (Rating: 8 out of 10).......2006-12-02
You would think that as many albums that Todd Shaw aka Too $hort has out (about 16 I think), and as many years he's been rhymimg (at least 20), he'd have enough hits to have atleast a double disc of a "Greatest Hits" album. Unfortunately this isn't the case here. Die hard Too $hort fans will be dissapointed with this here. Don't get me wrong Short Dog was one of the greatest rappers in the game. (Notice how I said "was"). This right here is Too $hort from the "Born To Mack" (1988) album to his tenth album "Gettin It (Album #10)" (1996). Basically before his renegoiciation of his contract with Jive Records aka his retirement. In this case I find the collage of albums on the cover to be misleasing because they show all of the albums he's made forming a picture of him.
There are a lot of gems on here, showcasing his hit singles from his early albums. Some of my favorites are "The Ghetto" from "$hort Dawg Is In The House" (1990), his more popular single "Life Is Too $hort" from the album "Life Is..."(1988), and "I'm A Playa" and "BJ Betty" from what remains my favorite album "Get In Where You Fit In" (1993). Most of these hit singles were classics. The only one I can think of whats missing from here is the song "I Want To Be Free" from the "Shorty The Pimp" (1992) album. You'll notice the hit singles he's released back then and what ever the heck he's been putting out after his retirement, expanded on more subject matter. Most of the time he's talking about strip clubs and women nowadays. Even though he did back in the day, he also rhymed about social political subjects, like "The Ghetto" he rhymed about how urban ran down neighborhoods full of drugs and murdering had a reflection of Oakland.
Unfortunately he would abandon the funky Oakland sounding music and moved to some town called Atlanta, and began settling for the generic production from Lil Jon and Jazze Pha (Ant Banks would toss him a few beats here and there). If you gotten into Too Short anytime after 1999, and want to know what he's really capable of, snatch this up here. Then go pick up some of his earlier albums. To tell you the truth: I'd rather take 13 funky tracks of Too $hort's Greatest Hits before his retirement than anything he's made after retirement, because 90% of that material has been straight garbage. I got much love for $hort Dawg for his 20 or so years in the game and 16 albums (name any other rapper who holds both titles), but to tell you the truth, I believe he's hanging on by a thread.
Peace!
