Product Description
Not to be confused with the Dance label of the same name, this 60s group was a side project of members of the Ivy League and Flowerpot Men and as such never toured or appeared on TV. This CD consists of 2 LPs (35 tracks, of which 31 have never been released) - the whimsical pop psych of Midsummer Nights Dreaming and the heavier rock soul of Men From The Ministry. 11 Bonus tracks are added and each album is housed in its own PYE Art Department-like cover with its own liner notes. RPM. 2005.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Spotty Period Album/Good but uneven followup.......2005-11-27

The first album of this double CD set, "Men from the Ministry", is a spotty affair at best. There are some nice splotches of background vocals and an occasional ear catching and finger snapping tune, (like the infectious "Something Very Good"), but for the most part it's throw-away 1966 pop-stuff.

The followup album, "Midsummer Nights Dreaming" is obviously the superior record of the 2 and makes this worthy of a purchase to any fans of 60's psych. While it also has some "filler" pop songs on it, even those are of decent quality. Highlights include the Lennone-esque "Laughing Man", the U.F.O.-themed craziness of "In The Sky" and "Mr. Light" and the psych-pop fun of "Going Round and Round", "White Collar Worker" and "Sequin Sally".

Finally, I'm not sure if I just got a "bad" version of the collection or not... but both discs are mislabeled as one another; the disc labeled "Men From The Ministry" is really "Midsummer Nights Dreaming", and "Midsummer Nights Dreaming" is really "Men From The Ministry". A minor annoyance at best... but someone should be looking out for such obvious mistakes at RPM; it doesn't look good when such obvious mistakes exist on these kinds of re-releases.
