As you may already know from seeing it hawked incessantly on late-night TV by Jerry Vale, Mob Hits is a compilation CD that attempts to capture the ambience of the modern gangster pic by assembling songs heard in key scenes of such films as The Godfather, GoodFellas, Donnie Brasco, and Casino. While licensing restrictions keep the music of Frank Sinatra from being part of this collection (odd, as the address on this package is the address for his long-time label Capitol Records), the selection and sequencing of well-known Italian "hits" by Vale, Dean Martin, Louis Prima, Lou Monte, Al Martino, and Julius LaRosa gets the job done with discretion and honor. I would have never personally bought this CD, just because I would never financially contribute to a product that makes money off of putting down a culture (I happen to be Sicilian American and proud of it). A well-meaning friend gave me the CD for my birthday, since I am getting married next year. I can't believe he paid so much for this compilation of a bunch of old Italian songs you could find anywhere, and for so much less (try the library!) I can't believe people are still paying top dollar for a bunch of crappy songs, just because Mob is in the title and the Sopranos are back on HBO. Come on people. Don't you see you are being ripped off?

Lots of the classics on CD no.1. Great for setting the mood if you want to throw a red-sauce Italian dinner party. CD no. 2 definitely has lesser "side B" kinds of stuff.

Yeah, the music is good (excepting the crappy "Godfather" remake), but this is a little over 60 minutes of music released on two CDs, for no good reason other than to charge the unwitting consumer more money. You could fit the entire collection on one disc, and have room for 8 more songs (they're saving those for "Mob Hits 2", ripping you off at store near you!). There are better compilations out there... and better deals.

This is the second set I have purchased....I wore the other set out. My cousin in Italy laughed for an hour after hearing it. We call it our happy music. It tugs at my Italian heart.

I got this CD as a gift for my father. He loves all kinds of mobster movies and especially "The Godfather" movies. He loved it! Even if you haven't seen any mobster movies it still has some good italian classic songs that you could enjoy.

I was truly disappointed in this purchase. Not only is the quality bad, but I didn't really care for some of the selections. The song did not feel like they flowed together at all. But I do need to say, that MobHits 1 was great and I highly recommend that purchase!

Among others, there are tracks by Connie Francis, Vic Damone, Jerry Vale, Paul Anka, Bobby Vinton, and, of course, Wayne Newton (with a big band rendition of "Jingle Bells").     This CD was a quick release in 2000 to go along with the popularity of the TV show "The Sopranos". The main disappointment with it is the lack of discography in the liner notes. There at least could have been the release dates listed for all the songs.

    No this cd doesn't have Como, Sinatra, Martin or Bennett but none of the artists included are second rate losers. So if you're looking for a solid collection of Christmas classics with an Italian flare then this is the perfect disc. Of course it reminds me so much of my favorite little restaurant, perhaps I'm biased!

    Highlights include "We Wish You A Merry Christmas/Silver Bells", "Shake Hands With Santa Claus", and "Jingle Bells". The lesser of the tracks would have to be "The First Noel" and "Merry Christmas Baby" though neither are bad.

    If you're like me and just outright love Christmas music then you have to add this one. But if you're more a fan of "mob" music I'd maybe go for a Sinatra or Como holiday disc.

    While there are a couple of gems from classic Italian swingers like Vic Damone, Al Martino and Jerry Vale, the rest of the album is full of second- rate singers and horrible versions of Christmas songs (Dion especially!). And how can you have a definitive Mob Hits Christmas Collection without the big paesans like Perry Como, Sinatra, Dean Martin or Tony Bennett???? This is one offer you can refuse!

    I bought this album thinking that it was cool since it included a DVD - boy was I mistaken - look at the name of the artists on the packaging...there are no names since it's re-recorded tracks by some posers called the "Countdown Singers"...buy the real Mob Hits albums that have the bullet holes in the gold album on the cover...
