Customer Reviews:
Promising but Immature.......2007-05-05
I would give this album a better rating if it weren't for the immature lyrics and pathetic, misguided attempts at irony. The lo-fi Beat Happeningesque sound is a breath of fresh air in the relatively stagnant underground scene (in terms of lo-fi Indie rock). If you can stand to look past the adolescence, it is a relatively decent album and worth giving a spin.
Music For Idiots, Savants, and those With No Clue.......2007-04-04
Only the very briefest moments of humor save this CD from being one of the wrost I have ever heard. From start to finish there's no compelling reason to listen to this CD unless you're wasted or have an IQ below 80 - it really is that bad. Some people like watching B movies because they're so bad they're good. This CD belongs in the same category.
The voices (one male, one female - I don't dare compliment them by calling them singers) are horribly tone deaf, out of sync, and just plain bad. The band is just as lame, sounding like some 6th graders who just got instruments at their first garage practice.
I can't imagine this band going anywhere. When they finally give up (which can't happen soon enough) they can compete for minimum wage jobs like the rest of the useless people who will ensure the next generation does worse than thier parents.
So good........2006-03-22
Years from now people are gonna look back and say this was the mad note. So good. There is nothing else like this. I'm gonna go cry now.
Oh brother !!!! Beat Happening all over again ..........2006-02-17
All of you thirty-somethings out there know what I'm talking about...Adam Green + Moldy Peaches = teenage Beat Happening
I don't know about hype..........2006-02-07
I read several reviews of this that talked about people buying into the 'hype'; one who even said this is the kind of album where 1 'cool kid' heard it and liked it, and told his friends, so they all decided to like it too'. I have to disagree.
I had never heard of this band before. At 42, I'm considerably older than their 'target' audience perhaps. But from the first song, I was hooked. There's something so wistful and sweet about several of the songs. Basically, if you like music that has some feeling in it, aren't hung up on technical proficiency (and I do NOT mean that as an insult) and can dig on some lo'fi, interesting music, you'll like this.

Great CD.......2006-12-30
This is a great CD. I looked at all the local stores and nobody carried it. A girl from Chicago turned me on to this band. Not everyone will like it but they should. It's definitely something that you can sing to.

Album Description
Ball of Design is a record full of anger and hope. Much darker, more epic, and undoubtedly more political than their last album, 1:3:1, Ball of Design features a more focused Dufusboth figuratively and literally. Dufus has gone from fifteen members to a fit five: Strictly Beats on drums, Rick on guitar, Marko on bass, Lucas Crane phd on analog arts (probably the best tape deck-ist in the universe) and mastermind Seth Faergolzia on vocals and guitar. This is hippie death metal that is changing the world.
On Ball of Design, Dufus choose to eschew some of their more wacky leaningsno jocks carrying dildos or more girl cops. Nope, this time you, the listener, are asked to forget all you think you know, about music, about your life, to "set aside your idiot for a minute" and pay attention to a great rock record.
Customer Reviews:
Spirited jamming rock for open minds.......2005-03-26
Powerful ideas meld with street-level jamming. Big and chaotic, but still coherent and tribal-intimate. In other words, a fine balance of elements. The epic "Freedom" takes awhile to get off the ground before wielding and sustaining that power, but I take that as a metaphor for the title subject.
Seth Faergolzia is in the lead for this band of brothers, musical rainbow warriors lifting the discourse about what is worth fighting for.
All players bring a powerful presense to the noisiness = This is not randomly-made sound. Choices are made as they open up the performances and themselves to exciting possibilities beyond the performers' control. Sometimes what's beyond their control may at first seem to some ears as noise, but they limit -- or control, if you will -- the amount of what is beyond their control.
To sum up "Ball of Design": Universal themes are given unique expression. The album is like a fine home-brewed spirit that is all the more amazing for not having been mellowed for the larger marketplace.
I'd liken Dufus to what Polyphonic Spree would sound like if they were making a bloody, balls-out and ultimately beautiful racket.
Enhancing the musical experience, be prepared to encounter oddly-spelled words among the lyrics provided: If they were just misspelled, I'd be screaming bloody murder, but they're so persistent they provide a side stained window into Seth Faergolzia's mind. More insight at dufus.tv. And something I almost never experience, I fell in love with the inscrutable cartoons peppered in the album graphics.

If you've heard the debut album, you know what you're in for.......2002-04-28
This single is a prime slice of profane anti-folk. Adam Green and Kimya Dawson again display their minimalist songwriting ability. "County Fair" is a blast--1:30 of pure frantic fun. Definitely one of the best Moldy Peaches songs. "Rainbows" is a disjointed combination of several song ideas, but still ultimately enjoyable. If [dirty lyrics] are offputting to you, stay far away from this band. If you can enjoy it as part of the Moldy Peaches' deceptively juvenile appearance, then you will find the "county fair /rainbows" single to be an excellent addendum to the group's debut album

What's the difference between a companion and a compilation? I suppose one answer is that, rather than a sell-out mix album of 'safe' tunes already in the public domain, a companion album truly reflects what actually goes on at a club night, warts and all.
Trash Companion #01 does exactly this, Part One being a selection of live tracks culled from the archive of acts which have appeared at the club, which has often been the first to showcase relatively unknown bands that have gone on to much greater success. Part Two of the album features what the sleeve calls 'Club Classics' though don't expect the usual 'hands in the air' dross you'd expect from the likes of Ministry Of Sound. This album is a must for anyone who ever visited the club but more than that, it's an incredible selection in its own right, illustrating the diversity of a current music scene in which nothing is ruled out, as long as it makes you move. It's this variety that, ultimately, makes Trash Companion #01 greater than the sum of its parts.

i've got some crack.......2006-04-09
i love the cd. mostly because i like to hear the same songs over and over again. it can sometimes get old though.
everytime i hear big girls don't cry i laugh out loud and look like a jackass on the train. that's cool. and so are the moldy peaches.
The moldy peaches are on top.......2004-01-14
What this CD lacks in coherent though, it makes up for wholeheartedly in production quality. With catchy songs like "Who's [who has] got the Crack", the Moldy Peaches are sure to soon become the voice of a new generation -- A generation of twenty-something boys and girls who dress like rabbits, watch cartoons, and sing songs proclaiming their hate for their current genre. The Moldy Peaches once again raise the bar that much higher... perhaps higher than some of their biggest fans.
If you buy one album this year... make sure you have enough money left over for crack.
heyy.......2003-11-20
"Nothing Came Out" is THE BEST unrequited love song ever!! the rest of it kinda reminds me of the Pixies, but whatever it's still good....

Album Description
Debut album for satirical extrovert indie rock chameleons who channel their awkward social skills into a scatological satire that dwells on botulism, wannabe boyfriends, Internet porn and street drugs. The Moldy Peaches smell like a cult band in the making. 19 tracks. 2000 release.
Customer Reviews:
Just buy it... have fun........2001-12-18
I just bought the album the other day and I can honestly say that it is one of the best albums I've bought all year. It isn't because it is something new or original, but because it is what music should be about. Having fun and not taking it too seriously. The songs are catchy and often funny in that "I wrote this in study hall today" way. What astounds me is the fact that everyone seems to think that it has never been done before. "Who's Got the Crack" sounds exactly like something The Frogs would have written. The sound of the album is horrible, but the lyrics are honest and witty. The Frogs + (early) Kleenex Girl Wonder + (a little bit) of the Vasalines = The Moldy Peaches.
Moldy Music More Like.......2001-09-06
Arrange these three words into well known phrase: Clothes, New, Emperor's. The dictates of fashion never fail to astound me, especially when it comes to what is "hip" on the music scene. For some reason, some people to have got the idea in their heads that this pair of no-talent chancers are the "next big thing". I suppose, coming from New York (like the stunningly ordinary Strokes) and having some sort of manifesto (anti-folk, which sounds like an excuse for incompetence to me) helps. What have here are two people with little musical talent (the songs trundle along uneventfully and unchangingly on the same two or three chord framework and you can forget about melodies), no vocal ability (not only can they barely sing in tune but they have no personality either) and a slightly amusing talent for lyric writing (if I want words I'll read a book). The result is fey, self-regarding nonsense which makes The Pastels seem interesting (which, as I hope we all know, they aren't). Also reminded me in places of Julian Cope's "Skellington" and "Droolian" albums, which he recorded in five minutes when stoned out of his mind - with one proviso, Cope has talent, these clowns don't. File this album under "Forgotten and Unplayed By This Time Next Year"
Anti-anti.......2001-07-27
ýWe like to contradict ourselvesýthatýs our act,ý sing the Moldy Peaches. Very true indeed, as they go from acoustic folk tunes to screaming garage riots. The duo of Kimya Dawson and Adam Green may seem like a couple of innocent junior high schoolers as they sing about video games, cartoons, BMX bikes, breakfast cereal, and even cover the popular preschool hit ýLittle Bunny Foo Foo,ý but donýt be fooled. Around the next corner, the innocence disappears completely on songs like ýWhoýs Got the Cracký and ýDownloading Porn With Davoý where prostituting oneself for drugs is the name of the game. Put it all together and hilarity ensues. The Moldy Peaches are witty and sarcastic. They know how to poke fun at themselves, and even pull it off sweetly enough to make the crowd go ýawwwýý For instance, in ýNothing Came Out,ý Dawson sings, "And besides, you're probably holding hands/With some skinny pretty girl who likes to talk about bands/And all I want to do is ride bikes with you/And stay up late, and watch cartoons."
Some songs are just plain weird (ýThese burgers are crazy!ý), and the rough, homegrown, 4-track recording styleýcomplete with occasional screaming fits and telephones ringing in the backgroundýmirrors the style of young Midwestern indie rocker Bright Eyes, only less angsty and fairly insincere. In fact, they share as much with Bright Eyesý fuzzy sound as with the ridiculous sound of the Flaming Lips.
The Moldy Peaches are part of the New York Anti-Folk scene, which has included many modern songwriters such as Beck, Michelle Shocked, and Chris Barron of the Spin Doctors. Note: Barron actually lends a hand to the Moldy Peaches on this album.
The music is raw and deliberately sloppy, both sweet and garagey, but the real gem is the lyrics. Dawson and Green take turns singing in their just-rolled-out-of-bed voices sometimes layering two sets of lyrics right on top of each other. They certainly have a way with words (ýBloody Mary mother of Godýý) that makes this seemingly adolescent album wise beyond its years. Dawson was the only one in junior high who didnýt have a Duran Duran boyfriend, and itýs this kind of life experience that she brings to her songwriting.
Blinding.......2001-07-09
Since being played on a radio show ...I have been trying to find this album. I eventually found it and bought it on the strength of 1 song. It has since proven an inspired investment. The songs are both lyrically and melodically crafted in a way that will leave you with a smile on your face after every track. The lyrics are some of the cleverist I have heard and you may even get caught laughing out loud to lines like: scrinched up your face and did a dance/shook a little turd out of the bottom of your pants. Whimsical, funny, quite simply one of the best albums I have encountered in years, will have you dancing and grinning from ear to ear
The Moldy Peaches are amazing,.......2001-07-07
I loved the album and I think it is definately worth buying. It's hard to compare the Moldy Peaches with anyone else, they sound so original, every song is great to listen to. The mix of pop, rock and indie music types produces an amazing album that is funny and unique, they are one of the most talented bands around.
